In to the water they went! It wasn't long after Bez first put all of his paws in to the water that he stepped towards his girl, quickly finding himself knee-deep. Luckily the ghaenelt seemed to be unbothered by that - maybe he'd just needed a chance to adjust to the first moments of his feet being wet and the coldness of nearing-autumn water. That was okay - they had all afternoon if need be, and tomorrow and the day after and next week. Nothing had to be done in a day - there was always more time waiting for them. Sevyrn was having a lot of fun coaching Bez in to the water, and was waiting for him to be ready to wander deeper. She would help him once his feet couldn't touch the ground - he wouldn't get hurt with her watchful eye on him. After this she could even teach him how to fish, knowing that he would be safe if he fell in.

Deeper and deeper they went, bit by bit. The first time that Bez put his foot down and couldn't reach the water below without his head dipping beneath the surface he started to panic, but Sevyrn was in to save him immediately, reaching under his abdomen to keep him above water. While she was afraid of getting poked by one of those sharp spines, she wasn't about to abandon him now. "It's okay, it's okay," she tried to soothe while he continued to thrash at the water's surface, and then after a moment when he realized that he truly wasn't in any trouble right now, he started a rather awkward paddle - it was his first time in deep water. With time he got better and better at it - it took longer for Sevyrn to feel comfortable pulling her arms away from his body even a few inches than it took for Bez to start paddling somewhat decently.

Time came and went - Sevyrn finally pulled her arms half a foot away from Bez's body and gave him the chance to swim around on his own. He struggled for the first few minutes but didn't sink, just needed to learn how to float rather than be held up. Everything was okay. Only once he seemed to have a grip on things did Sevyrn dare to take a step back and let the ghaenelt splash around in the water, so obviously out of his own habitat and yet still finding a way to enjoy this strange wonder. She'd never seen a swimming ghaenelt before - she was pretty sure that more than likely no one around here had - but hey... of course she wanted to be the one to own the strange swimming 'nelt.
The pair spent some more time in the water, Sevyrn always keeping a close eye on him even though he seemed to be okay. Once all done, they climbed back on to the shores. Sevyrn found herself really wishing that she had brought a towel.

"Good job, Bez!" Sevyrn said to the ghaenelt as they hit the edge of the river and made their way out, sitting her wet bum down on to the smooth outcrop of rock that she had stepped up on to. The ghaenelt moved in close towards her, getting his face close to her body. She seemed so happy with him, so he was happy! Sevyrn's lips burst in to a grin and with pleasure she scratched the underside of his chin. This little guy was one of her best buddies and in an ideal world that would never change - and Sevyrn couldn't see herself ever having a reason to lose access to him. She might not have much strength in her and would likely lose, but someone would have to fight her in order to get Bez away from her.
"Are you proud of yourself?" She asked in that high-pitched, curious tone of someone happily talking to their pet.

Sevyrn lowered her torso until her back gently pushed against rock, and then her head followed suit - Bez being the little cuddle monster that he was when his girl was around curled up on the large rock beside her and rested his head against her belly. It had been a long day, hadn't it? Now they were wet and a little worn out, it was time for a very well deserved break. For a little while the pair just laid there like that together, watching the clouds slowly amble by high in the sky.
"You wanna do something else?" Sevyrn ended up asking the ghaenelt after a while, still laying on the rock with her hand on the back of his neck. Her voice caught the ghaenelt's attention and Bez looked towards his girl. "Wanna go fishing?" She asked, gently encouraging him to move away so that she could sit up. They had already been 'play fishing' - why not?

"Go fish!" Sevyrn said to the ghaenelt, batting at the water like they had been earlier. It was best to start with 'catching' something and they had no fish here right now, so she batted at one of the pieces of algae on the riverbed, catching it in her fingers and pulling it up to the surface. Bez watched her with curiosity, trying to mimic what she had done given how fun it had been earlier on. His claws hooked in to one of the pieces of algae and he pulled it up. As soon as it was above the surface he started chittering at his girl, obviously proud of himself. Sev offered Bez a treat - he seemed to understand the idea of 'catching' something beneath the water, probably because they'd been playing around like this earlier.
Now she just needed to figure out the actual 'fishing' part... Seeing a fish swimming by, she stuck her net in to the water and caught it in her net.

"Go fish!" Sevyrn said to Bez as the fish thrashed inside of her net. She pointed at it the way she had the water last time, directing the ghaenelt to go after that. His head cocked to the side. That was one of the things that Sev had put in to the fishbowl earlier on! He'd been so excited by those strange little creatures. He jumped in to the shallows of the river and over towards the net, pawing at its rim.
"You got it, go fish!" She dragged her arm down the length of the net's attached pole so that the net didn't move as she moved towards Bez, and once close she reached her hand in to try to grab it. Bez had the benefit of having sharp claws whereas she had dull finger tips - it slipped between her fingers. She did that a few times to show him what to do.

"Go fish." Intrigued by what his human was directing him to do, Bez swatted his paw in to the net like she had been doing. That was what she wanted right? Was he supposed to catch it and pull it out like he had the seaweed earlier? Cooking his head as Sev, Bez hooked his claws in to the fish's tail and pulled it out of the net. It flopped and flopped in the air, startling him, and then it fell in to the open river and off it went. It was a good try!
Now they needed a new fish, though... that would be interesting. It had been hard enough to catch one in her net, how long would it take for another? They needed to have patience here. Eventually Sevyrn was able to snag another one and at that point in time she once again asked Bez to catch it for her.

He didn't need as much guidance this time - Bez was always eager to please his girl and she wanted him to pull the fish out of the water! With it stuck in Sev's net he swatted his paw in to the water and hooked the fish on sharp claws, dragging it out and in to the air. Once it cleared the surface of the water he grabbed it gingerly by his teeth and even put it down on the slab of rock just like he had dropped the seaweed that they had been playing with earlier. Was she proud of him? Looking at his girl he vocalized, wanting her to see what he had just done - and she definitely saw it.
"That was a great job buddy," Sevyrn said to him as she pulled the still-wriggling fish off the rock and back in to the net. They would continue to practice like this for quite some time until Bez got better at it.

"Alright - now let's see if you can catch them on the go. You already know how to swim, so you just have to catch up to it and grab it in your mouth. Once you're done bring it back to me." It had only taken a few tries with the net before Bez had realized that it was much easier to just bite at the fish rather than swat it with his claws, so Sevyrn was working with that. Fish in hand she made sure that she had his attention before throwing the fish in to the water.
"Go fish!" She said to him as she did so, and Bez was on the move as soon as she did. He was able to catch the fish by the tail and bring it back to the rocks. Great - he was such a smart little thing. She was happy with this, so now she at least had a fishing buddy.

What... was that? By instinct Bez seemed driven to go after it, especially after all that hard work catching fish. Sevyrn halted him immediately with a firm 'no' - that was not a fish. That was an incredibly adorable little sea pony, something that Sev had never actually seen in person before. A smile lit up her face from cheek to cheek as she slowly moved towards the happy go lucky creature, luckily already in the shallows with Bez so she wouldn't have yo cause a commotion as she splashed in to the waters.
"Hey little thing - aren't you just the cutest," she said to it, not wandering too far out. She dug through her pockets looking for something to offer it... what did they eat? After being called off the hunt - well, fish - Bez was also rather curious about what this strange thing was. Tossing a little treat for the critter a few feet away from her, Sev waited to see how it would react.

Oh! Food! The sea pony beamed at the woman for a moment before nibbling at the food a little, as best as it could. It really was cute, wasn't it? It loved people, it was surprising it hadn't been caught before! Staring at the woman and the Ghaenelt, it beamed again after finishing the treat and then inched a little closer to see if there was more.

Everything about this little critter made Sevyrn's heart well up with affection - she truly did think that it was one of the cutest things she had ever seen. That sweet little nibble, the way it seemed to inch closer looking for maybe more snack for me? Sevyrn dug through her pockets hoping to pull out more of what she'd just tossed seeing as it had appealed to the creature the first time.
Was it wrong for her to push her limits? If the sea pony didn't want to get close to her it wouldn't and she'd toss the snack out to it, but very hopefully she just held her hand out with an open palm, treats floating in a small pool of water contained by her palm and fingers. "You want some more, huh?"
At the first sign it didn't want to come closer she would offer it the food from afar, but Sev was hopeful.

Ooh, there was more food! The little sea pony inched closer and nibbled off the woman's hand before rearing back and...
SQUIRT!
Water was aimed straight at her face, and then the little sea pony bobbed with laughter and nuzzled up to her. What a prankster!
