Usually there wasn't anyone at the quest board when Silver walked by, but today they were greeted by two small mammalians that looked a little familiar. Did they know them? Silver couldn't be sure, so they just nodded along and hoped for the best. From what they said, they were maybe librarians or something. There was a lot of talk about books. The librarians wanted them to go do the docks and... apprehend someone? Were they sure they had the right person? Silver felt awkward turning them down, so they accepted the flier and wandered back home to sort everything out. "Any creatures suited to the work..." Silver repeated as they walked away. They tried to think of what kind of creature would be suited to this sort of task. There was always Quin, of course, and Ziikari, but they didn't think that was what the odd twins meant. If they were going to the docks, then they would have to bring an aquatic creature with them, right? With that in mind they sat beside their hidden pool and waited for inspiration to strike. It didn't take Myu long to swim up and chirp cutely at them. She rolled onto her back and exposed her belly, hoping for a scratch. 1[112.45, 14.2, 3.8]

"Hey there little one," Silver cooed. They gently rubbed her belly with their fingertips as they continued to ponder the flier they had been given at the quest board. Then it occurred to them: Myu was aquatic!
"Do you want to go on an adventure with me?" They asked cheerily. Myu chirped excitedly, mimicking their tone and enthusiasm. "Perfect," they said with a nod.
"Wait here for a second," they instructed. When they came back to the pool where she was waiting, they had a large plastic pail they used to scoop her and some of the pond water into. They grinned into the colorful bucket for a second, then hurried off toward the docks where all the apparent action was. Myu grabbed the top of the pail to pull herself up and poke her nose just over the edge. This was exciting! She made some happy squeaking noises as she swung back and forth with the motion of Silver running.
Quintessence could feel the change of energy in the air and he too felt energized. He went from lazily floating along to flapping his wings enthusiastically. Whenever he passed Silver, he did a flip or a swirl for entertainment while waiting for them to catch up.

Once the vast waters of the docks were within sight, Silver slowed down dramatically. Myu's pail abruptly stopped swinging, and she turned back to look at them as though that offended her. "I think we should be careful," they told Quin. "I'm don't know what's going on with this... book thief? but I think we need a plan."
Silver always thought best on their feet, so when they tried to come up with something ahead of time, they could only draw a blank. They looked up at Quin who was flying in lazy loops, then back down to Myu who was looking longingly out at the water. Suddenly they felt very unprepared to take on a dangerous thief with their two tiny dragons. Maybe that's what those guys meant when they suggested they bring an appropriate creature with them.
"C'mon, think," they muttered to themselves. They shifted their weight so that they could hold Myu's bucket in one hand and used the other to rub their face.
"Any ideas?" they asked Quin with a sigh. Quin could tell that they were feeling a little overwhelmed, so he stopped playing around and landed on their head. He cooed softly and pressed his head against Silver's forehead in an attempt to comfort them. "Thanks," they said.

Silver closed their eyes and breathed out slowly. They were getting too caught up in their own thoughts, focused too much on failure to even think of a way to succeed. That must be what Quin was trying to warn them about, right? Silver sometimes wondered how much Quin really understood, and how much they were projecting onto them. Whatever the case, they felt glad that he was there to help them relax.
"Okay..." they said slowly. What did they know? "They, the guys who... asked me to do this," they said, looking down at the paper they had been handed. "They were looking for some books, I guess. We have to find out where the books are, who did it, and get them back... safely, I assume."
Quin nodded along like he understood what was being said, but he probably didn't. Meanwhile Myu was watching the two of them intently as if she could figure everything out if she just stared hard enough. Silver looked back at Myu and smiled. She sure was cute, but that wasn't all. Didn't she also have some interesting powers? Perhaps they could be of some use during all of this. Now they only had to remember what exactly she could do, and how to convince her to do it...

Faeron were tough little creatures. That much Silver knew. They were almost impossible to kill in the 'usual' way, not that they were keen on trying it any time soon. The aquatic ones also had some kind of elemental powers. Something to do with bubbles?
Well, whatever she was going to do, it would probably be best to get her out of the bucket first. They looked down at Myu then out to the water of the docks. It was a place they usually felt comfortable and relaxed, a place where they could spend time with their creatures relatively uninterrupted. The stark contrast between swimming with baby Seryn and this made them all the more apprehensive.
"We promised," Silver said out loud. That was enough to finally spur them into action. They stuffed any superfluous objects into their bag and headed off toward the water. There they sat Myu's pail on the rickety boards of the dock and sat next to her for a moment. Something about getting into the water felt so final. It was like once they decided to get their feet wet, they would have to commit to this entire thing. Quin had no such issues, and he did a flip off of their head right into the water. To his disappointment, there was no splash.

Silver frowned at Quin's antics. It occurred to them that they might have made a mistake by bringing him along to what should have been a covert mission. Well, come to think of it, nobody said they had to be sneaky. They briefly considered the idea of just bursting onto a random boat and hoping for the best. That was a stupid idea, they thought, shaking it out of their head.
"Stay close to me," Silver said aloud. They hoped that Quin would, for once in his life, actually listen to them. They had no idea what this book thief was capable of, and though Myu and Quin were both resistant to most normal types of harm, anything could be out there waiting for them.
"Here we go," they said, emptying the bucket Myu was in into the water. She slid out into the water and swam in a wide loop back to them. All of the free space she had to explore felt amazing after being trapped in that bucket for so long. She knew that they wouldn't keep her in there forever, but it was still exhilarating to be in a pond so large she couldn't see the edges.

"Whadya think?" Silver asked. "Safe?" They realized that they were just stalling, and they were still feeling somewhat anxious about getting in the water. For some reason, it still didn't feel like the right approach.
Quin stopped flopping around in the water to look up at them and chirp softly. What was taking them so long? They usually loved swimming. Quin was aware of the fact that something was off, but he lacked the ability to fully understand what it was. Not wanting to make Quin uncomfortable, Silver finally slipped into the water. They briefly shuddered with the sudden change in temperature, then turned to look out to where they could see a few boats.
"It has to be one of those, right?" they asked. There was only one way to find out. They ducked underwater and swam quickly toward the boats. They stayed just under the surface so that the splashing wouldn't make too much noise on their approach. Myu did the same, and Quin seemed to get the idea despite being a terrible swimmer. He made a game of chasing after Myu and seeing if he could catch up to her. The fact that he couldn't reach her unless she let him was lost on him.

Silver stopped abruptly. The three of them had reached the small fleet of boats at the docks. They poked their head above water, just enough to look around for a moment. A handful of people wandered around, some waiting for something unknown and others carrying out their mundane tasks. Myu was curious, too, so she pushed her way between their arm and their body. She twisted her tail around their elbow and looked up at the strange people on the surface. Were they friends? She couldn't tell, so she watched what Silver did to see if they revealed anything more.
They scanned various objects as they passed from one hand to another, from a stack on a ship to a cart on the ground. Nothing looked like the books they were expecting. That would be too easy, they thought. They were going to have to get closer if they wanted to figure anything out. For a moment, they considered posing as a potential buyer. They could ask around for information about the rare book as though they were interested in purchasing it. No. They shook their head and ducked back underwater where they knew they'd be safe. Nothing about that sounded like a good idea considering their lack of social skills.

Silver opened their mouth to speak only for water to rush in, causing them to choke. They quickly spat the water out and bobbed back up to the surface. Now they remembered - the magic didn't work like that. Sometimes they could forget pesky little things like the fact that they couldn't breathe underwater without the amulet. It was almost too easy to get so used to things like that.
"I-i need to get closer," Silver said. They continued to sputter a bit from the surprise of inhaling a mouthful of water. "We can't just wander over there," they said, looking down at Myu and Quin. The three of them did not look like a regular bunch of couriers or anything. For once, they had the foresight to realize that they stood out in a disadvantageous way.
"Quin!" Silver said so suddenly that it made him jump. "I need you to fly over there and scope it out, okay? Do you think you can do that for me, buddy?" They nodded enthusiastically and encouraged Quin to do the same. He seemed pretty excited about the idea, even if he didn't actually know... what he had agreed to. Silver beamed, thinking that they had come up with the greatest plan ever.

Silver was far from an expert about their magical powers, but they did know that they could temporarily strengthen the bond between the two of them. If they could use that to direct him, and also get some kind of useful information out of him, that would be perfect. All he had to do was fly over to the docks workers, figure out who was talking about stolen books, and come back, hopefully unharmed. When they put it that way, though, it sounded like a lot to expect out of the little guy. They didn't know if he was ready for such an important task, and most importantly, if he would be safe while doing it.
"What do you think?" Silver asked. They glanced back at the ships on the dock, then to Quin. "Do you want to give it a try? Be honest with me, I don't want you to go if you're not ready." It wasn't entirely clear whether they wanted Quin to be ready, or they wanted themselves to be. Quin chirped happily. He was more than happy to do anything that Silver wanted him to do. Despite how protective Silver was of him, he wasn't afraid of much.

Myu was becoming quite bored watching Silver bob about in the water without really doing much else. She untwisted herself from their arm and started blowing bubbles toward Quin. Maybe he would play with her! Quin cooed and batted at the bubbles as they floated past him, just as she had hoped he would.
"Stay close," Silver said to her. They didn't want her wandering off while everything else was going on. The docks were a huge place for such a little dragon. Still, they had a good feeling about her being there. Perhaps she would still play a role in what was about to unfold.
First of all, they needed to focus on their bond with Quin so that they could share information... somehow. They didn't really know what they were doing or what was about to happen, so they just reached out their open hand toward Quin, closed their eyes, and hoped for the best. Silver slowly opened one of their eyes as if to ask 'did it work'? To their surprise, they were looking back at themselves. Both of their now glowing eyes shot open fully. It took them a moment to process what was going on.
"Quin!" they squeaked. "I can see... what you're seeing! I think. How amazing! I can't believe that worked."

Quin rubbed his face with his claws and tilted his head at Silver as if he was checking up on something. It was an odd feeling, being able to see what he saw. It was like a dream in that it felt very strange yet completely normal all at the same time. Now, all they had to do was get Quin to fly around the docks to find out what was going on. Maybe he could even fly into some ships and take a look at the cargo. No harm in just looking around, right?
"Alright, ah, I need you to fly over there," Silver pointed at one of the ships. For some reason, that felt like a good place to start, even if it was arbitrary. Quin chirped cheerily and swam over to Silver. He jumped up out of the water and tried to grab their hand and outstretched finger. "Ah! Stop!" Silver shook their head. All the bobbing around in their vision was making them dizzy.
"I wish... I knew what you were thinking," they said, letting their hand rest on the water so that Quin could touch it without bouncing around so much.
'Play,' they heard in a voice that was entirely new yet totally familiar.

"Quin?" Silver asked quietly. That's who that voice belonged to, right? They weren't used to hearing anyone in their head other than Koda, but their magic connection with Quin must have done something.
'Me?' Quin echoed back. Why did Silver say his name?
'Good,' Silver thought. It was best if they didn't have to speak out loud to communicate. Could they possibly get all of the information they wanted across, though? There was only one way to find out. 'Quin I need your help. Can you fly over there, to that, ah, ship? I want you to look inside, okay?'
'Why?'
'There is a... ah, a toy, on the ship, and I need to get it. Can you help me find it? You need to be careful, though...'
'Got it!' Quin bolted off into the air without listening to the rest of what Silver had to say. He shook himself like he was expecting water to fly off of him and headed toward the boats. Silver's brow furrowed. There was so much that could go wrong that they didn't even know what they were worried about first.
Myu was still twisted around their arm, and she gently pushed her face into their shoulder. She could tell that they were stressed out, but not really why, so all she could offer was comfort.

"Do you think he'll be alright?" Silver asked Myu aloud. They weren't sure whether or not Quin's new telepathic abilities would pick up on that, but they didn't mind if he overheard. It's not like he didn't know how they felt about him.
Myu just mewled softly and rested her head on their shoulder. She watched Quin fly away toward the ships and finally out of sight. She wondered what he was up to and why they had stopped following him like they were before. This was turning out to be a very strange outing, indeed.
Silver closed their eyes again so they could concentrate on the connection with Quin. They could see as he scanned the sky and flew closer and closer to the boats. Then they could see the people wandering around the docks doing their jobs and going about their lives.
'Quin!' they shouted in their head and saw Quin's vision jump briefly from he force of it. 'I need you to hide from those people okay? They can't see you!'
'Why?' Quin was starting to remind them of a young child who only answered statements with more questions.
'It's part of the game. Stay hidden and find the books, ah, the toys, got it?'
'That's a lot.'
'I know it is but I know you can do it!'

That was enough to spur Quin into action. He liked that Silver trusted him with this very important mission. He swooped in and took a wide turn around one of the boats. He was below the level of the deck so that people would be less likely to spot him. Meanwhile Silver tried to concentrate on everything they saw as he flew past. There had to be a hint there somewhere about which ship had the books on it.
'Fly around the ship so we can see it,' they instructed.
'Okay,' Quin flew a loop around one ship, and when nothing seemed out of place, he went for the next one. His mind was silent for a while until a sudden excited burst of thought. 'Magic!'
'Magic?!' Few words filled them with as much panic as that one.
"C'mon Myu, we need to get over there and help Quin," they said. Mew didn't know what that meant, but she meowed eagerly and dove into the water since it sounded exciting. They shot into the water and swam with all of their might toward the ships. They closed their eyes while they were swimming and tried to feel where Quin was, instead of dealing with two sets of vision clouding their brain.
