The waves on the river splash a little against the beach, while a storm brews on the horizon.

As they walked further down, with all of the items Morgan had brought in tow (Morgan made sure that it was), the human searched for an area with a slight eddy in it, or a weak point in the flow beside a river bank. They were sure that even in the rainy season, they would find one somewhere around here. After about five minutes of walking, they finally found what they were looking for, about the same time that the sunset hit that stunning degree over the canyon lip high above them that filled the canyon with red-tinted rainbow light. It shimmered, catching Endymion's extreme interest. They watched it for a while, and ate some of the food Morgan had brought. Soon enough, Morgan turned back towards him. "It is time for you to work on your swimming, a-a-as well as continuing your fishing. This way you can g-get your own food if you have to."

Endymion didn't question that at all, not with words of course yet, nor with his expression. The human nodded to him, and then brought him out to the shallows of the water, where the rock wall gave way to some particularly course red rocks. "Okay Endymion, let's work on Swimming." Morgan said. Endymion tore his eyes away from the water beyond the lip of the rockier side, where there was fast-running river water, and walked instead over to the more simple side where the water was slower. Morgan waded out into the water to make sure it was at a simple gradient, and then Endymion followed, only up to his ankles in the water. "G-good, get used to the water first." Morgan said to him, simply. Endymion didn't seem nervous. He splashed around in the water for a moment, seemed to catch sight of his own tail, and chased it down.

Endymion couldn't quite catch his tail at all, but he only stopped when suddenly water splashed up in his face. He snorted and shook his head, blinking his eyes rapidly, and then he let out an aggressive noise at Morgan quietly. It was tinged with playfulness, so Morgan was sure to splash him a couple of more times too, to coax him into going further out into the water without thinking too much. "Good job, keep on..." Morgan mumbled at him. Endymion wasn't as anxious about the water as other critters might have been. He quietly moves forward until he is up to his neck, and then stops. "Good, keep coming on, swim to me." Morgan was thinking about how he would swim- head barely above water, like a dog or a deer. "You c-c-can do it, come on..." Morgan coaxes verbally, and in LSL without thinking much about it.

Endymion didn't seem keen on going any further out, until finally Morgan gave him another good splash in the face. All of the noises he had made up to this point had been surprisingly soft, as if he was holding something back. Now, suddenly, he barks a noise that neatly knocks Morgan on their butt in the water- and suddenly they realize that he had still been holding something back- what was that? It was definitely more powerful than they were expecting, but not too earth-shattering. "Woah, Endymion, w-w-what was that?" They asked, curiously. When he looked a little surprised himself, Morgan took the opportunity to splash him again. This got the desired reaction out of him, and he rushes into the water headfirst, over his head. He swam fine at first, but then seemed to notice that he was over his head, and then he panicked a bit.

Endymion was sinking a bit, and Morgan reached out quickly to grab him before he slipped below the water and got a snoutful of water. He was not and would never be a water dragon, but he could at the very least learn to float and paddle around enough to keep him from drowning. Morgan gave him a light push. "Try a-again, you were doing fine. D-D-Don't pu-panic. Just paddle around. Swim Endymion." They said, in surprisingly choppy sentences. They had been under a lot of stress recently, so it wasn't uncommon for them to get worse in their stutter when they stressed. Endymion practices his paddles in Morgan's hands for a moment, and then looks determined at them. Morgan let them go, and he paddled around carefully and quietly, using the bottom of the rock bed to push up in the water when he felt like he was sinking.

A pretty little fish swims around in the churning waves

The bespectacled human was always slow to notice things like mental connections, but of course the thing that was allowing Endymion to learn little tricks about things before Morgan even thought to give them to him most of the time. The pair kept playing around until Endymion was practically paddling well enough that he only slightly had difficulty, at least in the not quite as rough waters of the little eddy. Somewhere in the sky, however, a bit of thunder rumbled. Thankfully, it sounded decently far off, but it was enough to remind Morgan that at some point, they were going to have to go home, regardless of how much it wasn't something that Morgan was looking forward to.
Morgan coaxes the much-better faring at swimming draconic closer to shore again, but then he caught sight of another fish. Morgan nodded to him. "Go fishing, E-Endymion." Time to see what he had learned from the little floaty creature.

Endymion splashed back into the water after the fish. It soon became apparent that he was not going to make it to the fish before it got away unless he swam. "Swim, Endymion!" They called out to him. Endymion bounced up from the bottom of the crushed red rocks in the eddy area, and paddled the best he could. He was able to keep his head up decently well, but he still struggled. Thankfully, the push he made was enough for him to open his jaw and grab the fish in the water between his jaws (without snapping on it). Morgan was quite surprised with his ability to be gentle. "You got it!" Morgan said, excitedly. Of course, this was just the second time he'd managed to catch something out of several tries, and he had did a bang-up job swimming, at that. However, it was a solid start.

Endymion came out of the water and shook himself off a bit, especially from the tip of his tail and the fur under his front legs. Morgan hadn't really noticed that he had extra fur there. It was interesting, to say the least, that they had not noticed it until now. "Okay, c-can you put the fish in the cooler for me?" Morgan asked. Endymion gives a quick head dip and moves over to the cooler, where he noses it open with his muzzle and then drops the fish held between his jaws into the cooler. Then, he backs away, letting the cooler close on its own again. Morgan nods to him. "G-good job. You need to show me that you c-can do that again, some more." Morgan babbled, sounding fairly uneducated. Dang, the stutter was getting worse. They were going to have to rest at some point today.

Morgan took the young draconic back out to where the water was. They noticed that the lovely sunset they had come to see had already faded, and now the evening was bathed in sickly yellow-red light, and a cloudy sky that swelled with storm. Something about this made the hair on the back of Morgan's neck stand up, but they weren't exactly sure how to place it. It was like they could remember something, something disturbing... They'd always liked storms up to this point, so they had no idea what was causing the difference. Trying to push the thought away and not be too worried, Morgan turns to see that Endymion was peddling around in circles, around them. He splashes Morgan high up on their leg, above the boot. "Hey, not that high!" Morgan says to him. He sticks out his tongue in a nearly humanlike gesture. "...Rude..."

Morgan played around with Endymion in the water for a while, splashing back and forth, before they caught sight of yet another of those little brown shark things. The third one of the day! Morgan pointed towards it. "Go fishing, Endymion!" The little draconic excitedly paddled out towards it, taking advantage of being able to just barely keep his head above the faster moving water out towards the edge of the calmer water on this side of the rocky beach to be able to grab the little creature by its tail fin. He then swam towards the rock wall on the calm side to get back to calm enough water to swim back towards the shore, all with the little brown fish in his mouth. "Good job, Endymion!" He really was getting the swimming thing down, wasn't he? Morgan was pretty proud that he had learned this quick, at least.

Stink filled fish seem to float to the top of the river, as though the cleansing rain that was to come was making them pop up. One by one, they slowly explode, filling the air with their stench and driving the rest of the fish away!

Morgan and Endymion spent a full hour working on getting him used to swimming, his name, and of course fishing for fish from both the water and the lip of the rock beach before the human was sure that he had gotten all three. It had been an arduous evening, working on all of this. They were sure that he would be exhausted by the end of it all, but at the very least he wouldn't die if he fell into running water by himself. The human finally nodded to him, and they began to get out of the water. Morgan was planning on doing a bit more fishing using the net anyway, so it would give the draconic some time to rest before they ate some of the food Morgan had brought. That was the plan that Morgan had, though the best laid plans of shiku and people never seemed to go the way that they wanted.

Just as soon as Morgan and Endymion (who had his newest fished-up fish in his mouth) made it to the red-rocky beach, something strange seemed to happen. Dead fish began popping up EVERYWHERE. They came from the bottom of the river, and didn't seem to flow with the rest of the water. It made no sense, and gave Morgan a second's pause. Then, Morgan was sure that they were going to die, too. There had to be some kind of a gas leak everywhere, and there was no way they were going to be able to get out in time. Before Morgan could react though, one of the fish EXPLODED with a sickening POP and a horrendous STANK came out like nothing else that either of the pair could ever have imagined. Little Endymion took off running at first, perhaps a little smarter than Morgan was, but skidded to a stop to wait for them.
