The human began to take the brown lumpy plant off of the hook, and then they reached for the pouch with the grubs in it. "What do we need to work on?" Endymion asked, apparently ready to do more learning. Morgan was very glad that he enjoyed it, so much. "You know that d-dodging thing you learned this morning at the mines?" Morgan asked, beginning to string the grub onto the hook. Endymion nods, and answers "Yeah."
Now that the grub was on the hook, Morgan made sure to get the fishing pole ready to throw into the water. "That stuff t-tires you out really fast, so I think that working on your ability to do that multiple times in a row as well as your endurance would p-probably be good just in case anything happens in the future." They made a quick flick with the fishing pole, and the grub and hook hit the water.

Endymion was anything if not always ready to learn something. Sometimes, he was learning even when Morgan wasn't entirely noticing. As the human allowed the line to float a little further down the river in the canyon, Endymion waited for further instructions. As soon as Morgan had the line set the way they wanted it, they quietly turned to look at Endymion, while feeling for any changes along the line. "S-so, I'll give you the ques to dash, and I'd like you to dash along the bank near the walls, if that works for you. If you do it repeatedly, you should eventually m-make a breakthrough." The human can see Endymion nod after that. "N-now, I've worked with a lot of individuals on this particular technique. When your muscles start hurting, y-you are probably going to try to stop. Y-you can't stop. You've got to keep pushing on, or it won't work."

The whippersnapper shot down the river in a frenzy, following the little blue fish around to try and catch it. It was vicious and mean, and it didn't do anything to show that it could be a pleasant situation.

Morgan had been paying split attention, one set of attention to their hook at the end of their fishing line, and one onto their soulbond, who was gearing up to begin working on the repeated dodging thing. However, they did notice when Endymion's eyes widened, and he looked out onto the river. His rapt attention was on something, and Morgan followed his gaze out to the water. "Look at that!" Endymion finally manages out. Morgan didn't see, but he was pointing his claw out to the water. Just below the shimmering top layer of the water, Morgan could see a dark shape passing through the water, after... Something or another. The human quickly reeled in the rest of their line, and then tossed it out to the other side of the water, ahead of where the creature was. Hopefully, the creature would see the much easier prize on the end of the hook.
While Morgan tried that way, Endymion readies himself at the water's edge- ready to fish since he knew how.

It's mouth open wide, it almost had the fish, and....
CHOMP!
Down it went onto the hook and it thrashed about when it realized it tasted metal instead of fish. It knew that taste far too well, but it always managed to pull free. This time the hook was in too well, it would seem.

The human was absolutely flabbergasted at their luck. So flabbergasted that it took them a split second's worth of an emotion that they weren't able to place later (excitement? fear? anxiety? they weren't sure even later) before they jerked the pole ever so slightly (they could still hear their dad's voice saying that the hook had to be firmly in the creature's jaw to be able to reel it in, and that a slight jerk could do that- and no of course it's fine this is the way of the world, don't worry about the fish) and then began to reel in. They would stop for a second if the fish thrashed, to make sure that the line would hopefully stay strong.
Endymion sees that the fish is on the hook, and he slides down into the water to try to help. He stayed far enough away not to be in range, but close enough that he hoped to try to catch it if it got away.

The whippersnapper felt itself being pulled in and thrashed hard again, trying to get off of the line. No luck, but it would give up yet. It started to roll to see if it could snap the line that way.

Morgan had no idea what kind of fish this was, but as they got just a little bit closer, they saw that it was big. Or at least, long. Yeah, now that they watched it a bit better, it was long. "Endymion, can you keep close- m-make sure that you grab it if it manages to get off of the line or anything!" They called out, talking a little too fast for Endymion to know exactly what they were meaning from hearing alone. However, Endymion seems to have caught it, perhaps due to the connection they had due to the soulbonding. "I'm on it!" Endymion said, confidently swimming in the direction that the line was being reeled.
Then, the rolling started. Morgan wasn't entirely sure how to handle a roll. However, they thought quickly, stopped reeling for a second, trying to allow the roll a bit of slack to keep it from snapping the line, and then started to try to reel in again.
Endymion watched, and waited, saying close.

It hadn't worked. It hadn't worked! The rolling always worked! Spitting a little, the whippersnapper shook one more time before it felt itself growing tired, more and more so the more it thrashed. Drawing closer to the shore, it panicked and tried one last, failed attempt to get free before it floated there, finally defeated.
[Congratulations, you've captured the Whippersnapper!]

It was a rough and tough fight. Morgan's arms were shaking when they finally pulled the strange fish creature onto the bank. They quickly worked to grab the wirecutters from their pocket and cut the edge of the hook away so that they could wrest the hook from the fish's mouth. It was a LONG and TOOTHY thing, and it made Morgan absolutely amazed that they were able to get this thing out of the water. It still fought when it was on land, and it nearly bounced back into the water, but Endymion was right there to grab it by the very tail tip in his jaws, and then drag it back onto the shore the rest of the way. "Thanks Endymion, I a-a-appreciate it." They said. Morgan carefully opened the cooler and then put the long creature into the water in the cooler. "W-well, that was something else."

Endymion nods, and then promptly takes a drink of the water in the river, washing his tongue of the distinctly nasty fishy flavor. "G-good job Endymion, you really came in clutch." Morgan was still feeling very shaky from the entire ordeal (they always felt quite shaky after something surprising like this). "A-alright though, we need to start you back up working on that endurance thing!" They tried to sound enthusiastic. Endymion stands back up, looking over at Morgan. "Sure, but you know, we never really got to start." He said, being a bit of a butt.
"You're right, get on it." Morgan said, facial expression serious, but obviously joking. They took their whistle and raised it to their lips, giving the command for dash. At that, they also cut the line so that the ruined hook was no loner on the strand, and went to grab another cheapo hook from the pouch.

Of course, Morgan could have actually bought decent hooks from the Hook Line and Sinker, instead of these kinda terrible ones. However, they knew that they might as well (while they were still learning technique and such) use cheaper ones while they were still kinda sucky at fishing. Endymion was probably even able to tell that Morgan was not the most skilled fisherperson ever. They weren't even sure if they would ever use it again, if not for their soulbond having fun swimming around and such. The human gave the whistled que for Endymion to start, and Endymion took off dashing down the thin rocky shore of the River Below. The human tied the little hook onto the line with care, and whistled again, forcing Endymion to keep moving as he had slowed down. As they got their line ready to throw, they also whistled again, telling Endymion to dash yet again.

Endymion had been pretty confident at the start of it. While he was practicing, Morgan was getting ready to throw the hook into the water yet again. Soon enough, the hook with a new little grub on it was tossed back into the water with a quick flick. The young draconic was beginning to feel quite a bit of fatigue, but Morgan continued to use the whistle to cue him into dashing down the banks. He made it a goodly ways before stopping, standing and heaving. Morgan wasn't going to try to push him too far quite yet. So they waited while he took a break, some ways down the river, and allowed the line to float down the river. Soon enough, the young draconic made his way back, starting up the dashing soon. The human let him dash on his own. He was, after all, his own person. They trusted him to give himself his own workout to increase his running endurance.

Whenever Endymion got back from his quick jaunt, Morgan smiled and congratulated him for working so hard. Endymion was breathing hard, but wanted to keep going. "Don't overdo it though, Endymion." Morgan said. Endymion nods, but gives Morgan a look of sheer determination. Morgan slowly reeled in the line, trying to feign a swimming creature with it. Endymion starts off, dashing as far and as fast as he could down the bank again. He slowed and stopped at about the same area that he did before, but continued going after catching his breath again. The human kept a careful eye on him, but was sure that he would be fine since he knew how to swim enough to not sink, at least. They flicked the line back out into the river again, after a bit. The sun was slowly climbing down the sky, now. It wasn't quite sunset yet though.

The pair both worked as well as they could on each one of their projects. Endymion wanted to be as fit and strong as possible, just in case he needed to be able to protect those he cared about. He knew, as a young member of the Draconic race, about his people's customs. He talked regularly with other draconics when Morgan was back at the city, and knew that it was as important as ever for young draconics to be ready just in case anything happened that would require them to join in the fight. Of course, he had not spoken with Morgan about this yet. It wasn't something that he wanted to burden them with.
So Endymion runs and runs, forcing his little dash bursts into something resembling a prolonged dash. He exhausts himself so much that he has to take another quick break to catch his breath before returning to Morgan's side again.
