As suspected, Vixie was FURIOUS. Morgan had expected that. They had not expected her to be out for two full days, scaring the heck out of Morgan (who was totally not worried about her, she could do whatever she wanted for all Morgan cared) and then return with a huff and eat all of the junk food in the fridge. Of course, that was sort of Morgan's fault, they had taught her how to make all kinds of food. Morgan felt funky about it too, but it wasn't their fault. They had to keep moving on. So, the third afternoon, Morgan gets Endymion awake with a gentle nudge. He looks sleepy, but excited as Morgan gets together the mining gear they never thought they would use. Soon enough, they were on their way to the Canyon's Mines system. They had told theirself they'd never mine, but there was a first day for most things, at least. It was rare that Morgan's plans panned out exactly. [1] - [Start Trip 1]

The fishing trip had went well, even if there had been a super weird situation that killed and exploded a lot of the fish in the river whenever it was about time for them to leave anyway. It was not Morgan's plan to leave exactly then, but it had been a better decision than not. They could have very well have gotten hurt from that, they figured. They hoped that their mining trip was going to be less... Well, whatever that was. It was supposed to be a calming thing, though Morgan wasn't entirely sure how to even use some of the tools they had brought. They walked into the first hole in the ground that was the main entrance to the Canyon's main mine shaft. According to a fairly smart Malavos they had passed, apparently this particular hole wouldn't be dangerous, 'even for a baby'. Morgan tended to trust draconics more than people, and probably for good reason.

Morgan thanked the oddly-colored Malavos, and then waved over the young brightly-colored draconic. They switched on their flash-light and then watched as Endymion came closer. "If w-we have any luck today, we'll try to teach you how to see in the dark better." Morgan nodded. "How about that?" They asked him with a grin. Endymion nods, standing at least an inch taller than he had when he had first... Hatched, or Materialized, or whatever had happened (Morgan wasn't sure exactly what had happened, anymore). He speaks, his voice almost like that of a preteen boy at this stage in his development- "Yes." Then he clears his throat. "I'd like that." Yes, Endymion had began speaking the past few days, with all of the work Morgan had been putting in to speak back and forth with him. He was still a little rusty, however.

Morgan was pretty proud of him, even as he spoke, but he was turning out to be one of those individuals that picked and chose over his words, and stayed more quiet than not. More of a listener than a speaker. Morgan hoped he would gain confidence as time went on. "Alright, s-so, you know any idea of where we should begin?" Morgan started with them. Sure, they had read up on how masonry worked, but that didn't mean that they knew everything about mining. Endymion tilted his head, looking one direction, and then the other, thoughtfully. "You are looking for..." He seems to search for the word. "Gems." He said. "Colorful stones?" Morgan nodded to him. "Technically, both gems and fossils. Did I tell you what those were?" They asked, voice kept down since they noticed that the area echoed.

Endymion shakes his head- something that he had picked up from Morgan recently. "Fossils are like... Bones. But they aren't the bones. T-t-they are... Well, when a creature dies, the bones often wind up in the earth." Morgan starts, showing hand signals along the way as well. "The bones stay there f-for much longer than the rest of the animal. Soon, the dirt shifts around the bones until the d-d-dirt hardens." They explain. "When the dirt hardens, the bones eventually go away. That leaves a hole shaped like the bones called a mold." They said. Endymion listens, his ears perked.
"The mold will eventually fill up with other kinds of minerals, usually a different kind of rock than the rock around them. T-t-t- You know, Sometimes, they even f-fill up with pretty minerals, like opal." They stop and explain what opal is to him, too.

Endymion listens with extreme interest, watching Morgans hands as much as he listens to the spoken words, and has picked up Morgan's habit of nodding and making a sort of 'uhuh' noise with a draconic murr here and there. "So the new mineral that is left behind is shaped j-j-ju-just like the old remains of the or-organism. So the new piece can be studied. S-sometimes there is minute bits of o-o-or clues left from the old organic material. Those can be studied i-if they exist." Morgan finally gets out. Endymion seems enlightened. "W-we'll go o-o-over a bit more b-biology later, if you want, I-I know you have the wheels turning." Morgan said, turning around and shifting the flashlight back to their hand. They really didn't need the flashlight right now- this main cavern was lit up with lights all the way down it. Little Endymion follows after Morgan, thinking.

After a few moments of Morgan looking at the burnt-out (well, empty) walls in the main canyon area, which were lined at the top with lanterns that had glowing crystals inside of them, and lined at the bottom with various work benches and such (though there wasn't really anyone around here, oddly). Morgan was noting whether there was anything they could use specifically (They didn't really know how to use everything yet, though, much to their embarrassment!). The human did not like not knowing everything about the things they were going to do. It was a little ironic that they weren't equipped to do the things that the Canyon of Eterra supported. They understood, though, how it would be difficult to garden in the canyon. Most of the plants in Morgan's garden were labs-created, and obviously most draconics were not okay with this sort of 'abomination' running around their little abode.

Of course, leave it to Morgan to find (or create, they guessed, in the case of Endymion) the two draconics least bothered by the 'atrocities' of the Labs. Vixie's dream literally WAS to become a scientist (something that Morgan could probably arrange to some degree, provided she do more learning), and Endymion? Endymion was transfixed every time Morgan mentioned the kinds of creatures they trained on a nearly daily basis. Morgan was about to get to the end of the main hall (where several halls branched off with less lanterns in them but still strung up across the wall) when Endymion pipes up to ask a question- "Morgan? Why do you... Do that thing with your voice?" He wasn't sure what the word was for it. His 'question' tonality was starting to get better, but still wasn't quite perfect.
The human turned towards him- "T-thing with my... OH!"

Morgan sheepishly rubs the back of their neck and flashes a quick anxious smile at Endymion. It wasn't something that people dared to point out with them often, because Morgan kept such a cold and distant persona in public that most decided not to cause issues. They understood why Endymion, no matter how precocious, asked it. "I uh, I have a stutter. A s-stutter is basically..." They trailed off, trying to find an easy way of describing it. "The part of a person that makes them... Work, is the brain. It is like a control center, with lines through your b-body called nerves. Nerves carry electrical signals th-t-through the body to make different aspects of biology... well, work." They explained. "Different things do different things. A-anyway. Apparently my speech center probably h-has something going on that makes it difficult for my motor center t-to make things smooth. S-so, I have a stutter. B-but it's fine." Morgan said. "I-it isn't dangerous. Just a quirk."

Endymion nods along, and then speaks- "I thought it was a part of the common language, at first, but I noticed that the pattern was not conducive to language. Did you know that you also do it with your hands?" He said, pointing a claw in the vague direction of Morgan's hands, where they had been holding them out, expecting to speak again. They looked down at their hands. "I-I stutter with my Hands?" Morgan asked, curiously, turning them over.
"It makes sense." Endymion says, matter of factly. "If it is a motor area and a language area not working together properly... The hand thing is a language, right?" He says, head tilting in a way that told Morgan that he knew he was right.
Morgan nodded. "Yes- s-so, left or right?" Morgan said, pointing. "Or straight ahead?" He inclined their head towards it.

Endymion takes a look in the selected directions, looking left and right, and then straight ahead. They all looked really similar, at the moment, and this was the first time he had ever been underground. He looks at Morgan after considering. "Perhaps we should try left this time, and then straight ahead the next? And then to the right... We need to explore all three at some point." He says. It was a well thought out answer, and one that made Morgan feel like they might be here a few more times in the future. This wouldn't be the only time, but they hadn't really planned for even this trip originally. Ah, well, they thought. "L-left it is!" They said. They shifted the heavy backpack on their back, feeling it dig into their shoulder a bit, and walked down the left corridor, which had much more space between the lights and was a little dimmer than the main area.

Endymion's eyes would eventually adjust to the dark that Morgan expected in the later areas. That was Morgan's plan for the day, anyway. For now, though, it was too light down here to really do much but step down Endymion's eyes to get used to the slightly lesser light. This hallway seemed to be mined-out, too. Perhaps the malavos from earlier had been one of the ones to help widen out the main area and these starter directions, or perhaps he was just working as a guardian and guide to make sure that no one wound up dead in the much more dangerous Canyon Mines further down. The pair had been warned in the mean time by the malavos that if they didn't come out in five hours, that they were going to be retrieved. Morgan had made a face, but once again, they trusted draconics much more than they did other people.

They walked amicably down the two walls in the roughly round area (with a squared bottom, it was a strange not-quite a half-circle shape- and with a squared off ceiling, if one could call it that). Morgan counted the rows of lanterns as they went past them. It was a long and empty corridor, but much smaller than the main one around. Eventually, the left one got more narrow, and began to branch off in a few different directions. The branches widened out later on (Morgan could see that thanks to the flashlight) and Morgan turned to Endymion. "S-so, I don't want to go too deep down on the first day. T-that fine with you?" Endymion nodded. "It makes the most sense. We wouldn't want to run into anything dangerous down here." He didn't seem too keen on walking into the dark, but he didn't seem scared either.
