“Those ones?” she asked, brow craning. The shijin nodded resolutely, then whisked towards them and phased through the crates. Darting through, he pointed out three among the similar-looking six, forwarding a sense of knowledge and deceit. Darky looked at them closer, crouching down.
On the surface they didn’t seem all too different to one another, thought some of them had more wear and tear than others. Not enough to be noticeable, if you didn’t know the content was completely different. On the side, she could see the labels with loading instructions and contents, suggesting to all the world there was nothing but trash here. Gently picked at their edges with her nails, and the label didn’t take long to come off - both of them, one stuck to the back of the other.
“Interesting..” Darky murmured, trying to separate the labels, but finding them too stuck together. Even so, the faint text on the opposite side was enough to read out a hazy “Vai Min Mur”.
The lids were still attached, so that was promising.. Perhaps the thief had not yet dared to move them, or claim their contents, until things died down.

Which also meant the culprit would yet still return. In some ways, what better time, as everyone on town was out and about, looking for traces of the stolen shipment from everywhere, but right next to it. The sentinels could halt delivery long enough to investigate a scene, but they could not deter shipments from being delivered sooner or later. And most likely sooner rather than later, given the hunger of the City for its materials and goods, even trash.
Something clicked in the far corner of the warehouse, sending fur pricking along the sphinx’s neck. Click, click, click, click. Quickly, the sphinx ducked through an opening between the shelves and planted herself on the opposite side, behind some barrels. Amonuro ducked into the ground, lest his bright form give them away.
The sound drew closer, something clacking against each other as gradually the footsteps became audible as well and a humanoid shape outlined itself against the dimness.

The light came in small streaks from the skylights above, not enough to show the face of the person, but enough to glint off of some dice being rolled around in their hands - purple and black - as they passed the beam and approached the shelves where the Dusty Scroll shipment used to be. They then turned around, for the moment seeming to almost pass their gaze over her hiding spot, before focusing on the crates opposite.. And kneeling. They picked up the dropped label, the clacking suddenly stopping.
From behind the barrels, the shijin poked his head up long enough to give a pressing nod towards the sphinx - now or never. Perhaps even now or something worse. Darky kept low, tail tip twitching behind her, and silently sighed. Right, right.. They don’t know the strengths of this guy, and a direct confrontation alone could end in disaster.
So, she quietly shifted backwards, to more open space in the aisle and rubber her wrist.
The noise drew the attention of the figure, a honey-glazed hiss of “Whose there?” shouted out towards them.

Darky stared towards him and replied back, “Shadowbane.”
There was a look of confusion on the shadowed features of the being’s face, unmatching the expectations they, perhaps, had on this situation. It threatened to fade into an angered sneer, an indignation of the intrusion, if not for a gleam of something flashing from the dice. Something fizzled in the air (or perhaps their eyes) and the face changed quickly from aggressive to fearful realization. The air beside the mammalian swooped like reality breathing in, and the compacted air expanded outward with a sudden gust and exhale. And a purple sarane left in the middle of the reality warp’s wake.
The good thing about Cèasadh was he never really needed to know much in order to react. Being pulled between a few different dimensions was within his very nature, so the teleportation via bracelet held little shock to him. No sooner had be apparated that he emparthic connection gave him everything he needed to know - something was threatening the mammalian, and this shadowy thing in front of it was both warm and a source of this threat.
The drake shrieked, extending wings as black teeth oozed with equally black drool. “Cèasadh,” the sphinx back up further, “Hunt!” (19) Amonuro: 69 (4/5) Céasadh: 93 (1/5)

As the shadowed being suddenly began to retreat, the purple drake faded from view, dashing forwards as he did. The warehouse was made for large crates, but even a full-grown drake was pushing it, as he nicked some of the shelves long the way. The being was running now towards the open doorway, as Darky got up to follow and keep them in her sights. The drake would be close enough now, she wagered, and called out “Cèasadh, strike!”
Something purple flashed again from the figure’s hands and just as the sarane aparated from thin air, the figure broke off their run, stopping, ducking, and avoiding the blow with liquid ease, before continuing to make for the door of the warehouse. By the time the drake had recovered, the figure was out and gone, even as Darky jogged after to try and spot them on the streets.
“Damnit,” she murmured and glanced to Amonuro “I guess they weren’t kidding about the strange aura this guy has.” Looking out into the street again, with a sarane’s face gently nudging her back for a view outside, she sighed, “Well.. Better find a sentinel and start explaining all this..”
And hope to never have to repeat the incident again. Though, not likely to have much luck there.
