She'd seen the quest board before - in passing, at least. Sevyrn had never paid attention to the various fliers that stayed pinned to it, advertising different missions and requests that people around the city might have. The first time that anything caught her eye, she wasn't sure that she wanted to be a part of this - but the community center was crowded, all eyes focused on a strange woman with stars on a bow on her head, and from what Sevyrn was able to catch, stars in her eyes as well. She walked by just in time to see the woman handing out fliers, and for the first time she found herself interested - everyone loved a good meteor shower after all, right?
"I'd like one," she said in a soft tone to the girl before her, struggling not to stutter. She'd never been one for strangers, but this woman (and the people that she was allied with) seemed to need a hand and she was more than happy to help.

She had a tendency of being off in space, her head stuck in the stars as she went about her day by day life - perhaps that was why she found herself so interested in today's goings-on. The happiness in the woman from Sevyrn wanting to give a hand was palpable and contagious, and how was she supposed to respond to that big grin with anything other than a grin of her own?
The woman handed her a flier and immediately started talking, but Sevyrn's green gaze was scanning the information on the paper quicker than the woman could speak. It seemed easy enough - if there was any way that she could help, she was welcome to. There was even a handy-dandy attached list of jobs that needed to be done tonight in order to have the perimeter secured and their equipment ready to go in time for the comets to begin to fall.

"I would love to help out." Sevyrn had not a clue in the world what she was going to do to help out yet - though she'd spent many a day admiring the stars in the sky she didn't know the first thing about astronomy as a science. "I'm just not sure how yet, but helping you guys get set up seems like a good place to start. Put me to use!"
The scientist seemed thrilled with that response, and with an excited call she beckoned Sevyrn to follow her away from the quest board. A group of scientists waited in the front hall of an inn, chatting quickly amongst themselves to figure out how the night was going to go from them. "Hey guys - we have someone to help out. Are we ready to get going yet?" The woman asked, though she struggled to pull the mens' attention away from each other - they were too lost in their science.

"Hey!" The girl called out louder, and this time the team of scientists gathered round a table were able to break from their immersion - heads turned towards the pair that had just walked in and Sevyrn suddenly felt nervous with so many eyes on her. Fighting the paranoia that she was the one they were watching had to happen - they obviously cared more for the woman that they knew and what she had to say - and yet that deep-seated fear didn't want to fade... Just breathe. "I'm ready to go when you guys are, we have a few people to help out now and we need to start getting ready. Get a move on!"
The table cleared and the chatter between the scientists immediately began again as they pulled together various papers and notebooks, gathering all that they needed before walking out the door. Sevyrn stayed at the woman's side as they walked towards an equillion-drawn cart full of equipment.

The journey was long - not everyone had an equillion to ride and Sevyrn nearly suggested stopping at her kennel - she had four grown equillion, after all. It was a better idea in theory than practice, though; her kennel was directly out of the way from where they were heading, not to mention only one of them had ever been ridden before. It had been a nice thought though, right?
Wandering away from the city center and then further in to untamed lands, Sevyrn had to wonder where they would end up. Leaving the city was a good call - there was too much light polution to get a good view of the stars twinkling high in the deep night sky - but she'd never gone this far out before, and had no idea what to expect to come next. After a rather tiring journey, the scientists pulled their pack equillion off of the beaten path.

Everyone ended up parked at the top of a large hill, and Sevyrn swore that she had never been able to see so far out in her life. The sky was clear above head, thick lush forest visible on the horizon. The researchers had picked an amazing spot that would give them a great view, and Sevyrn figured that they had this location planned for ages before today had actually come. It was at that point then people once scattered again - the researchers huddling back up together to quickly debrief each other on how they wanted to run through things.
The woman that Sevyrn had approached earlier stayed close, accompanied by a working man with a fox tail and several of the other volunteers to help out. It was a small group, but hopefully a good one - she didn't want to find herself pulling the weight that should have been someone else's.

"All right, everyone," the man spoke, addressing Sevyrn and the others with an air of authority to him - maybe it was the clipboard in his hands that made him look like he was in charge of things. All eyes turned to him as he started to explain what was happening. "Starting off I need all hands on deck getting set up. After that we'll figure out how to divide things - most of you will be able to go home, but I'm going to need at least two of you down at the bottom of the hill making sure that no one tries to come up here and distract us while the comets are falling and hopefully a couple to aid the researchers during it. Get going!"
It would take a lot of coordination to get everything where it needed to be, but there was no better place to start than from the top.

While another person unloaded a table, Sevyrn pulled out a chair and took the instruction of the director to tell her where it was going to go. Then it was on to the next thing and then the next - and once everything had been loaded out, it was time to play around. She'd never even touched a telescope before today, and yet researchers were trusting her to move it safely? It was a rather strange occurrence.
Luckily she hadn't been the person in charge of unloading that so there was never the risk of her being responsible for dropping it but there she was pulling an expensive piece of research equipment around from place to place, waiting for one of the researchers to say that it was in just the right place. The researchers never seemed quite happy, though - even minute adjustments seemed to be moving it too far... It was the price to pay for offering to help.

Aha! Finally the researchers were happy with the setup of the telescope and thank the gods because the sun was starting to dip below the horizon and there was still more to be done. Luckily Sevyrn wasn't the only person there helping them, or else their pickiness may have ended up screwing them over in the long run. From there most of the work seemed to be setting up the research stations exactly as they were wanted alongside the equipment. After moving one of the tables, with the aid of another volunteer, Sevyn found herself excited - she wasn't her to play around, she knew that, but if this meteor shower was as interesting as everyone seemed to think it was, she couldn't wait to be a witness to it. With it only being seen every two hundred years, this was the only time in her life that she would be able to see its wonder.

After everything was set up, the group was offered a short break. Sevyrn stopped to take a drink and have a quick snack - all offered by the researchers as a thank-you for helping them with such a momentous occasion - as the volunteers all gathered around the coordinator, listening to him explain what would have to happen now. Getting the volunteers to head down to the base of the hill and keep an eye out for anyone who might try to venture up here was rather difficult - Sevyrn figured that, like her, they wanted to be up here and seeing the natural marvel in all its true beauty. She couldn't blame anyone - but luckily enough Sev didn't look even the list bit intimidating so she never got asked personally if she would be willing to do that. She was hoping that her assignment would be to stay up here helping keep notes.

If that was the case then she would be getting an amazing view, and find herself immersed in the science of it all as well. Even though she didn't have the attention span to keep her eyes on a book for too long, Sevyrn was the academic type - she loved to be learning, even if she preferred the much more hands on methods. It would be an honor to be able to be part of the research itself. They didn't need to personally pick out people for this job, though - as soon as the coordinator started to talk about needing two sets of hands on deck, one for each of the main researchers, people may as well have climbed over each other to get that opportunity. Though she didn't scramble to make it to the front and draw all eyes to her, Sevyrn did speak up, rather hopeful that she would be chosen.

"You and you."
Sevyrn was starting to lose faith that she was going to be able to stick around for this part when the first person that was pointed to wasn't her. Her heard dropped in her stomach as the feeling of rejection struck - just in time for the coordinator to call for the second person. He had pointed at her! She had lost her hope no reason, and she was still going to be able to do the part of this that she really wanted to. With a smile on her face she acknowledged the invitation to help out, and wandered towards the scientist that she had been told to talk to as the coordinator went about handing out more assignments and letting the rest of the people here who weren't needed (or didn't want to be needed) head back home. The best part of the day was just beginning!

Sevyrn stretched her arms up over her head as she took in what was going on in front of her now that they had all moved on from getting the equipment set up.
"I'm going to need you to keep some notes for me, if possible. There will be other people around who will be listening as well, but I want to make sure that we don't miss a single detail so the more the better." After the researcher explained she scrambled over to one of the tables and grabbed a blank notepad from it, and then scrambled through all the other things on the table to whip a pen off of it. The woman raised it high in the air and smiled, a rather eccentric action that Sevyrn could appreciate the enthusiasm of. It was very similar to the way that she would have acted had she been the researcher here.

Sev was happy to take the notebook from the researcher as she handed it over, a smile riding on her face as she then followed the girl towards the table. She couldn't help but turn her attention towards the array of papers, folders and notebooks scattered across the surface, riddled with diagrams and equations and so much information that simply was not very intelligable to Sevyrn, who knew next to nothing about the stars other than that they were really really pretty to look at in the night sky. Not only was this going to be an amazing night for the sights that it had to offer, but likely also a learning experience that Sevyrn would walk away from with appreciation.
"We'll probably have you right about here, you can even sit down if you want. Once the meteors start this is going to be all business," the woman explained as Sevyrn's free hand ran lightly across the papers. She was still distracted by everything in front of her, but the researcher's voice called her attention back to reality. Yes - right here.

The waiting game had truly settled in as dusk started to come, the sun peaking below the horizon and turning the skies beautiful shades of orange, purple and pink. The clouds that settled in were concerning to the many researchers around, who found themselves worried that their view of the shower would be obscured by the clouds overhead - some people even started to panic over it. With a one in a lifetime opportunity, cloud cover keeping them from seeing the wonders of the job that they were trying to do could wind up disasterous after all. Sevyrn prayed along with them that the sky would clear up as night settled in - for entirely different reasons, she was incredibly excited to see what was due to come.
Prayers were heard, it seemed, when the sun disappeared beyond the horizon and the last of the clouds cleared the way to reveal a dark, starry sky.
