Alright... one out of two down - Sevyrn was going to leave it after she had taught the young one to stay where she was when she was told as well... this would probably to mix in a good bit of that 'no'... No, Nightlight - stay where you are. They would at least end up putting in a baseline understanding that could be worked with in time, once the little thing got a bit more mischievous. Was Night up for it? She had already done a lot of learning for such a young one - it was worth a shot to see if she would be able to take on another command today.
"Come here," Sevyrn cooed to the young seryn, urging her to come swim nearby. Once Nightlight was over there they would be able to work on getting her to stay where she was told to, but first Sevyrn wanted to give her a little bit of love.

Alright - now it was for Sevyrn herself to do some moving. "Stay," Sevyrn to the young seryrn as she shifted her body a few inches away. She kept moving a little bit at a time, encouraging Nightlight to stay where she was with an open hand a verbal command each and every time. She did alright with listening, maybe she just wasn't feeling like moving right now. Either way she got a treat the second time that she didn't move, and then the third as well. Sevyrn stilled at that point and waited until Nightlight looked like she wanted to swim off.
"Stay," Sevyrn said to the seryrn, who took off away from her anyways. "No - stay. Nightlight, no." The seryrn did not seem to want to stay where she was wanted... this did seem to be a good time to work on teaching her the meaning of the word no.

Eventually the seryn calmed down and came to a stop, at which point Nightlight was given a treat by Sevyrn. "Stay, stay," she repeated, holding her hand in the seryn's sight line, aiming for her to do as she was supposed to. Would that happen? Who knew.
She did stay where she was told long enough that Sevyrn tossed her another treat, and then summoned the little fish back over to where she rested in the water. Nightlight bobbed along, tiny fins just a going because the current had gotten stronger and she needed to put a lot of effort in to the task. Once she reached Sevyrn she swam over the woman's lap and settled in there, curling up close to the woman's body and peering up towards Sev's face. Had she done good? She really hoped that she had done good! Sevyrn let out a laugh at the little thing.

The pair worked together for a little while, going back and forth between letting the seyrn wander around, calling her over, and asking her to stay - she got better and better with time, growing more comfortable with the command. Any time that she wasn't listening Sevyrn quelled her with a stern no, multiple when need be, and she slowly realized that she would get a reward if she stopped whatever she was doing when Sevyrn said no to her. They were making decent progress on both fronts, it seemed! Sev was happy to see that the little thing was still interested in learning - even beyond today there was much to be learned, and even if they weren't working on verbal commands, she would be learning every day for a long time still. Life was so crazy when you were still young and every day was a new adventure waiting to happen!

The treats were less and less frequent in time, yet Nightlight still seemed to be ace about responding. This was good! Not only could she come on command, but she was generally decent about staying still on command. The biggest problem was that she had a relatively short attention span, and needed to be reminded semi-frequently. That was just the nature of being a baby - with so much going on, it was hard to pay attention for a long time. Things didn't need to be perfect, Sevyrn just needed to know that she would be able to get Nightlight's attention and have her respond like she was supposed to, the occasional reminder was okay. Things would get better with a little bit of time, as Nightlight gained a little bit more patience and focus.
Sevyrn sat with the seryn a little bit longer, and asked her to stay where she was one last time. Nightlight happily bobbed in place.

There was just a little bit more to do before Sevyrn was ready to head on back home with Nightlight - the little thing could likely use a break and want to return back to her friends, and they could always come back when she was a little bit bigger and ready to learn some more complicated stuff. Life was good! All that was left was for the little one to simply understand the meaning of the word 'no', and that could be done simply by letting her do as she pleased and making a point to correct her if she tried to swim off. No, come here. Eventually she would have to figure it out, right?
Sevyrn was in no rush - the sun was starting to set and as such the river was becoming a little chilly, but there was no point in rushing home quite so soon. They only needed a few more minutes.

Sevyrn let the little fishie float around as she pleased, idly chatting even though the little seryn likely wouldn't be able to understand what she was saying. Seryn may have been considered a sentient species, but it would take more than a day for the sweet little thing to pick up the common tongue - perhaps as she got older she would come to understand Sevyrn's words more, though still would lack the ability to talk back. For now simple commands were all that Sevyrn could expect Nightlight to respond to.
So she stuck to that - speaking short sentences to communicate with the young one, maybe teach her a few basic words that did not need to be treated as commands. Understanding praise words, for example.
All the while Sevyrn simply let the fish swim about, giving her a firm no every time that she tried to swim too far off. If she had to repeat it she did, and only once the seryn stopped moving did Sevyrn offer her a small snack and then call her back over.

The young one got better and better with time, coming to respond with ease the first time that she was told that she was misbehaving. Because the little thing seemed to be rather smart, Sevyrn did not offer her a reward any more - it turned in to a simple no, come back here. Nightlight understood that no meant that she was supposed to stop what she was doing, though she seemed to be making the connection that it meant she had to come back over to Sev - because of that Sevyrn stopped asking her to come, and when Night responded to no by swimming back, she quelled the fish again. No did not necessarily mean that she had to swim back over to her girl, just that she needed to stop what she was doing.
Eventually Nightlight was able to differentiate between no and come back here, and was working with each command on its own. Sevyrn was pleased with that progress.

It seemed that they were all done now! Sevyrn cooed towards the little seryn as she was incredibly proud of the little girl's progress. It was definitely time to head back home, though - Sevyrn was starting to get hungry and hadn't exactly brought a lot of people food along with her, not to mention that she was starting to get really chilly and just wanted to be back inside of her house.
"How do you feel, Nightlight?" Sevyrn asked, reaching one hand out towards the young one beneath the surface of the water. The seryn responded by swimming over to her and rubbing up against the woman's open palm. "Are you ready to head back home? I think that I am, and I imagine that Skye and Squirt are missing you right about now."
Night looked up towards the girl with big round eyes, and did a barrel-roll beneath the water's surface.

Sevyrn let the little one swim around while she moved back on to the shore to dry off, leaving Nightlight's little carrier fish bowl in the shallows for her to preemptively swim in to if she felt so inclined. Nighty didn't seem to be so inclined however, so the young woman had to urge the seryn over to the shore and even scoop her up out of the water to put her down in to the fishbowl. Nightlight didn't seem to like being contained in the little bowl now that she had felt what true freedom was like, but the trip home wasn't a very long one and very soon the seryn would at least be feeling the freedom of being within the pond with her friends.
"Alright little one - let's head out." Sevyrn loaded the little fish bowl on to her cart and with that, they were leaving the docks behind.
