The current state of our Species Pocket Guide is all we have left of Spirit's defunct site and MML Encyclopedia. Entries are missing, outdated, or just don't have enough information on the creatures that we play with here. So, let's fix that!
The purpose of the Species Guide Update Project is to not to simply restore the MML Species Encyclopedia, but to make it better than ever - rewritten by the players who hold these critters close to heart.
Interested in rewriting a species guide?
- Apply for the species which you would like to rewrite the guide for by posting the application form provided below in this thread.
- You will be noted down for any species you apply for. (There's no 'disqualifier' for this! Application is for record purposes only)
- Multiple people may work together on any given species, or work independently. Multiple independent entries for a single species guide will be put to a private (staff) vote.
- Write your species guide update in whatever program you choose. (Those collaborating on a guide may want to use a shared google doc.)
- Try to complete your guide in a timely fashion- within a month (30 days) after application.
- Submit your finished entry with the appropriate BBcode formatting here: Link
All entries will be reviewed for quality before being accepted as official.
Application Form
Species and Applicants:
When writing a species guide, please follow these guidelines:
- Your guide must follow the same format as the current encyclopedia. A blank template has been provided below.
- Your guide should use the current information in the pocket guide as a baseline.
- If a species has no guide information, there may still be some information to be found in old Tapa news posts or the Sporadic Species Archive.
- Try to stay within ~1000 words (excluding breed differences/descriptions) to prevent the guide from being too lengthy of a read.
Handy Hints for Writing:
- Try to highlight features of a species at their various ages - a baby pliathor sounds a lot different from an old one!
- Use the taxonomic classification in the species stats to get a better idea of what real life animal the creature is related to.
- Be sure to refer to the stats and include all breeds of a species - including VSCs or Rare breeds.
- Stats may also give you insight on what might set the different breeds apart from each other.
