In order to compete in the Show Ring, reply to this post to put on your show! Include your pets' image and stats in your first post, as well as any items they're wearing, will be used in your performance, or the pet was groomed with. - At the bottom of your first post, please note which participation prize pet you would like! -
The show ring or arena can look however you like, and it's safe to assume staff could procure some extra embellishments if needed for your performance, or special accommodations for critters that require it. Use any of your pets' many abilities to show off for points and votes from the crowd! Pets may use moves that they don't know on command in the show ring; there's ways to prompt that untrained COD to breathe fire, right?
At the bottom of your show ring posts, please make note of what abilities, moves, and tricks were displayed, and if they are used on command or not! Otherwise they will not count towards your score.

Renathan was first up, or rather, Auburn was. He wasn't planning on putting a grand show on today, it wasn't really needed. They were just here to show off Auburn's cool 'magical' powers. He wasn't sure if they would count, after all they were more elemental than anything else. He steps out, waves to the crowd, and speaks. "This is my beloved Auburn, and she's here to show you her amazing powers!" Short and sweet, good. He called Auburn up into the air, and called out a few quick commands. The one for powder snow first, and then breathe of winter, quickly. Suddenly, it began flurrying little bits of snow here and there in a gorgeous shimmery display, and of course Auburn's icy breath looked really neat (especially since it was directed at no one and was simply directed up in the air). After that, Renathan called her back down to land, and then waved. "That's all everybody!"
It was short, and sweet, and Renathan was sure that they wouldn't win. However, they did have a couple of neat actions that got showed off, and that was enough for him.

Their turn in the ring had come. The first performance seemed to be rather short, though he wasn't sure if that would be good or bad for their run. It was better to worry about themselves in any case, put on a good show for the crowd and judges, then hope for the best.
[Alright, Kyrio, let us show them your splendor], the leopard communicated telepathically to the wiurn, leading the way forward into the show platform. There was no leash or chain tethered to the creature; Xentus trusted Kyrio would be on his best behavior. The stage was theirs, set simply with a training dummy. The crowd was quiet, with gentle whispers and quiet confusion as to what kind of creature was up on the stage. The purple, gem-studded wiurn was not an ordinary sight to see.
"Greetings! Xentus presents to you today, Kyrio, the mystical wiurn!", the mammalian announced, gesturing widely to his companion, "Unlike most of his kin, Kyrio is sentient. For this first demonstration, he will read the minds of the judges. If you would please, think of your favorite color." There was a bit of confusion that he could see from them, but soon enough, Kyrio pressed into his own mind.
{Red, green, green, magenta - from the fat one to the frail lady}, the wiurn reported, {A boring sort, if you ask me}
[Hush]
"Kyrio has read the minds of the judges, to reveal their favorite colors as: red, green, green, and magenta!", Xentus announced, pointing at each judge as he lists off the colors.

"Ah, mind reading might not be the most magical feat these days, eh?", Xentus turned back to the crowd announcing like some sort of ringmaster, "Well then, on to the next feat."
[Kyrio, remember how you can shine light from your gems?], the man asked telepathically to the wiurn, hoping he would play along, [Xentus would like you to show that to the crowd. Not *at* the crowd though...] {Hum. Is that really a magic trick? It is a rather mundane thing, light is. This stage is already lit like the sun}, the wiurn complained, grunting audibly. [Yes, good idea!]
"Lights off, and fog on, if this one may request!", Xentus called out, hoping whatever stagehand was around would be listening. After a few seconds, the main lights shut down, leaving the stage only with a dim glow from the secondary lights. A thin cloud of mist poured from the machines on stage, unseen in the darkness.
[Now, Kyrio! ... Please? Imagine if you do not even place in this show. Nazura would have a laugh], the leopard asked of the wiurn to do his thing, taunting him in the process. Kyrio wasn't quite trained to do so, but he was smart enough to know exactly what was requested of him. The being was only stubborn for the fun of it.. But, playing on his jealousy was the quickest route to get him to do something. The gems on the wiurn gently glowed at first, then violent beams of multi-hued light shot into the air, decorating the mist with lasers. Always willing to flourish, Kyrio spun a bit, making the lights dance and play in a beautiful display.

The display of pretty lights was much more magical than simply reading minds, granting them a few gasps from the crowd. It was.. Probably one of the better 'magical' things the wiurn knew how to do at his current state. Well, they could only hope it would be enough to impress compared to their competition. It was now that the leopard felt that he really needed to spend more time with the wiurn, even if he could be a mental pain.
"Lights on, dimmed please!", the leopard asked with a couple of claps, "Now then, Kyrio can also channel this magical light into his powerful jaws-"
[Alright, now bite the dummy there], Xentus mentally directed the wiurn, gesturing to the mannequin propped up on the stage. Through a cheerful facade, the leopard was really chewing his cheek, hoping the wiurn would just follow along for once. {You want me to what?}, the being retorted, gems still buzzing with light, {Light comes from my gems, not my teeth. What do you expe-} [Oh, so Kyrio admits he cannot perform such an easy task? Nazura can channel fire to his fangs so easily. This one is so very disappointed...]
That struck a nerve. Kyrio nearly flew into a rage, baring his teeth and snapping them at the leopard just inches from his face. The man didn't flinch, though he was looking away as if unimpressed. With the toss of his head and another audible snap into the air, the wiurn's teeth and throat began to glow. And then, with a final swing of his head and stomp of his feet, the creature lunged forward and sunk his brilliant fangs into the unsuspecting dummy, lifting and tossing it to the side.
{That should've been you.}

"Wonderfully done, Kyrio!", the leopard praised aloud, ignoring the venomous threat of the beast, "With that, we only have one last thing to show off." {What is this 'we' that you speak of?}, the wiurn retorted, still rather grumpy, {This show is about me}
Again, the wit of the wiurn went ignored. Xentus knew he had to tread carefully here, or else he might not be able to get the wiurn to show off anything more. There was just one last thing he wanted to show - true magic. Of course, Kyrio still didn't know anything of such nature... As his creator, Xentus idealized the orbs that the wiurn manipulated would each hold some innate magical prowess. Orbs of magic, to channel the elements: water, fire, and earth. Like nodes, except just for the wiurn. With a quick breath, the leopard tried to telepathically explain this to the purple lizard, hoping he would understand well enough.
{You.. Want me to what?}, Kyrio responded, dumbfounded. Perhaps the middle of a show ring was not the best time to try to encourage some kind of sudden magic burst. [Ah.. Just focus. Start with water. It can be small, just a few drops. Then fire, an ember or so. Then earth. This one doesn't know, just try. If anything, flourish. He knows you can do that much], the man directed, trying his best to hide away the increasing feel of embarrassment.
Doing things with a flourish was something the wiurn could do, at least. The three strange orbs around the wiurn began to spin through the air, whirling around his body. One by one, he brought the nodes to the top of his snout, channeling a small burst of element from each. Nothing of high magic, but still arcane nonetheless.
"Excellent work, Kyrio! And with that, our performance concludes. Xentus thanks you all for watching!" And with that, their act was completed.

Level: 21 Loyalty: 28 Stamina: 3 Strength: 2 Resistance: 2 Dexterity: 3 Mentality: 10 Special Abilities: Swim, Enigmatic Moves: Scratch, Sun from the Heavens, Aerial Lift Normally, Silver came into the contest hall with some sort of a plan, but this magic show business had them a bit stumped. It would require a lot more effort than a beauty or cuteness show would. They carefully observed the other contestants and considered what they wanted to do. When it came to their turn to enter the show ring, they were still uncertain, but it wouldn't be the first time they entered the ring with no plan whatsoever. "It's our turn," Silver said calmly. They placed their paw gently on Thoth's forehead to soothe him. Which one of them really needed to be reassured, after all? "Just show them what you can do, okay?" Silver didn't know what Thoth would decide to show, but they had a lot of faith in him. They knew that the crowd and the judges would realize how special he was, whether they had a great performance planned or not. His abilities would shine through their lack of forethought. Post by Fiera Ferella on Sept 16, 2020 11:32:12 GMT -6
So this probably wasn't going to be her greatest show, but Fiera was going to do her best regardless! "Ladies and gentlemen!" She said, flouncing onto the stage. Her outfit was... much wilder than usual, all silks and tulle and frills, anything to make her look as "magical" as her pet. (And perhaps make up for his lack of training.) "Behold, a rare malii, of storm and magic! Introducing: Kaito!" She said, gesturing backstage. "Kaito, come!" She called, away from the microphone. Begrudgingly, the malii bounded out, his magical orbs floating behind him and the smell of rain coming with him. Even his general aura was enough to make the crowd murmur, impressed. Fiera gave a few facts about him and showed him off as best she could, but there was only so much she could do when he only knew "come" and his own name. Still, when she walked off again she knew she had impressed SOME people at least.

And so, the time had come for the Magic Show. It was hard for Aster to be excited about this particular event. The people, the... showmanship, it seemed like all of it was for someone else. There were probably plenty of people for whom this sort of thing was right in their wheelhouse; the turnout of contestants certainly seemed to suggest it. But even the agility and endurance competitions had been a bit of a stretch for Aster, and those contests had focused on skills he found useful in his creatures. ... Not that magic wasn't useful, but he didn't feel compelled to show it off. But then, it hadn't been his idea to do this. Rhys was in high spirits, his scales buffed to a shine, wings vibrating in his anticipation to be off and showing the crowd what he could do. He'd watched the other entries, and his excitement only grew as he saw what they could do. (Female Orbaru please)

He didn't seem at all concerned about winning, which Aster supposed was a good thing. Better for him not to fixate on something they had no control over, and Aster didn't know, strictly speaking, if Rhys's skills would be what the judges considered 'magic'.
But even if it wasn't, at least Rhys would get the chance to put on a show.
"Alright, we're up," Aster said, resigning himself to the inevitable. Fortunately most of the attention wouldn't be on him.
Rhys walked alongside Aster as they stepped into the show ring. Rhys sat neatly while Aster faced the crowd. "This is Rhys," Aster said. "But he can introduce himself. Right Rhys?"
{I sure can!} Rhys broadcasted his thoughts to the entire audience, eyes bright as he addressed them. Some of the tension in his body was excitement, and some of it nerves. {We worked really hard to prepare this show, so I hope everyone likes it!}

It wasn't a long introduction, but as it turned out, Rhys wasn't really a natural showman either, and it wasn't as if Aster could come up with a better speech for him. As usual... It was best to just let the performance speak for itself.
Arrayed around them were a series of potted plants, all of them in various stages of wilt. Rhys stepped out, and used his telekinesis to pull one close, walking in a circle around it as he pretended to inspect it. Then he bowed his head, touching a glowing horn to the plant, which gradually grew green and upright again.
Rhys stepped back, then pulled another plant, and did the same thing. And then he pulled them all to him at once, and concentrated.
This next part didn't always work. They'd practiced a little, but Rhys hadn't had enough time to get it down pat. But being in front of an audience seemed to help.

Aster relaxed as he saw a warm golden glow envelop Rhys's body. The rest of the plants became healthy and green all at once, and when the light faded, Rhys was surrounded by a ring of resuscitated houseplants.
Rhys swept his tail through the air.
At first nothing happened.
And then, the plants burst forth from their pots, long vines and roots unfurling, until they covered the entire ring in a carpet of tangles, with Rhys in the only clear space at the center. Fluttering into the air, he swished his tail again, waving it in a fashion not unlike a wizard might wave a wand. This time, the vines burst into bloom, turning the show ring into a garden of white and red and pink flowers.
Rhys took a turn through the air, and illusory butterflies materialized from the blooms, fluttering around in a train behind Rhys. Then, as he came back to the center of the show ring, they gathered around him before bursting into a shower of sparkles and light.
Daintily, Rhys landed, and made a slight bow.

Silver had been in the show ring of the contest hall plenty of times now, so it was easy for them to do it again. When they were halfway out into the ring, though, they realized that Thoth had not followed them. They smiled back at him and waved him over. "It's alright," they said softly. "We'll be safe here."
Thoth seemed hesitant, but he did trust Silver. He took a few tentative steps, then when he realized nothing bad happened, he took a few more. His gold eyes scanned the crowd and he suddenly felt overwhelmed again. There were so many people there, more than he had ever seen in one place before. He was a strange mix of curious and nervous. He did get the sense that Silver thought this was important, though, so he decided to go along with it. He slowly walked out into the middle of the ring and stood next to Silver, waiting for them to lead the way.

Silver was glad that Thoth was looking more confident. They would hate to push him into doing something he thought was uncomfortable. As much as they liked participating in contests, they never wanted to push their companions too much. Perhaps they were projecting a little, there.
"It's a magic show," Silver said quietly so that only Thoth could hear them. "You have to show everyone what you can do, okay?"
Thoth clearly wasn't following, because he was looking up at the lights, mesmerized by how numerous and bright they were. How different they were from the sun outside. They made his fin-like membranes shimmer a bit, adding more mystery to his unique anatomy.
When he finally looked over at Silver again, they were waving their hands up and down as if pushing the air upwards. What did that mean? Thoth tilted his head while he tried to figure it out. Is that why they were in this weird place? Something to do with that hand signal...

Thankfully, they didn't have to wait long for Thoth to catch on. They knew he was smart! He slowly started to summon wind around himself, causing Silver's fur to fly about and give off a flurry of sparkles. Then the wind carried him high into the air. From up there, he looked down on the crowd and enjoyed the new angle he had to study them from. Finally, he began to float slowly back down to where he was in a neat little spiral.
"Thoth, everyone!" Silver said in their loudest voice. They struck a dramatic pose and pointed to Thoth.
"Thank you," they said both to the crowd and to Thoth himself. They leaned forward into a hasty bow, and to their surprise, Thoth did too. They couldn't help but giggle at him. "You did such a good job," they whispered. They weren't sure if it was enough to win, but they were proud of Thoth and hoped for the best.
