How do you 'walk' something that has a long, skinny neck? You couldn't really put a collar on it, it would slide right off over the head. And you couldn't just let it walk on its own, because it was a baby, and very dumb, and very new to the world... So what did you do? Ashe wrapped a rope around its legs and middle, and attached a leash to that, for a makeshift sort of harness. Did Boomy like it? Hell no. But he wasn't the quickest squirmer, and he was eventually manhandled into the contraption. He walked stiffly, dramatically, for a few minutes, before something else caught his attention and he completely forgot what was encasing him. Even when Ashe pulled and tugged, and sometimes dragged, him in a different direction. That was just life. Pulling you, pushing you. Boomy tended to go where the least resistance was. And that was how they ended up walking through the city, Ashe and his brand spanking new little pet. They ended up at the Quest board, which Ashe tried to check regularly. 1 *Ashe is using Sever Bond at the cost of 4MP

Of course there was someone looking for help. There always was! And the way Ashe saw it, it was always another adventure just waiting to happen. He walked up to the lady with Boomy trudging along with him, within speaking distance so he could hear her, and listened to what she was asking. It sounded almost too good to be true, almost too easy. All he had to do was go to the location and help out? He'll, he could do that right now! Really help them get a head start! Boomy could even help him.
"I'll help you!" Ashe told her, and he was pleased to see the happy look on her face. Yes, this is how everyone should respond to his presence when he told them he'd be kind enough to grace them with it. He got the location from her again to make sure he went to the right spot, and he decided to grab some treats for his little fossil, and headed out.

Boomy walked with him, for the most part agreeable and not fussy. What a sweetie, Ashe thought. But he was probably too fresh to have many ideas of his own. That little brain of his was too overwhelmed with everything and hadn't yet started to think about what he wanted to do instead. This was a time for observing, it seemed, rather than action. Ashe paused for a moment, wondering if he should work on training him first, take advantage of his agreeable nature. Or would that be pointless, if Boomy couldn't focus enough to obey much.
But no, he had to do this now, seeing as he'd already given his word. He liked to think his word meant something. So he and Boomy continued onto the site. They arrived just before sunset, and he'd heard prime viewing was around midnight. Plenty of time to set up, and still wait around for the main event without being rushed. Plenty of leeway for accidents! Just in case Boomy decided to make things go boom.

He was great so far, and happily munched the leaves Ashe got him and staring off into space. Ashe rubbed the back of his head on top of that long neck, since he didn't have ears to scratch behind.
"You're lucky, Boomy. You get to see something incredible tonight!"
The long necked creature looked up at him, his jaw working side to side as he grinded the leaves, looking as content as a fat enileaf with a bowl of milk. He appeared unimpressed with everything going on around him. Good thing he wasn't spooky like a foal would be, jumping at every loud noise that happened! Because there were so many people scrambling around to get things set up, there was of course a bunch of noise that went with it. Weird sounds, like clinks and clicks as tripods were set up, and some whirring sounds as other machinery fired up. Not to mention the din of people talking and shouting orders and requests.

He tried to stay out of the way of everything, picking out things to set up and doing his best to match what other people were doing. So this thing went here - he had to unfold a table and set it upright. This was a little difficult since Boomy was sticking close to him. If Ashe didn't know any better he would think he was shy. Regardless, his bulk, despite his smaller size, made it difficult to maneuver around wherever he had to go. He almost kicked him once!
He got the table set up and they had to put a computer, a laptop specifically, on top of it. He had to plug it in and make sure it turned on, then hook up a telescope to it so they could see the images on the screen. Adjusting the telescope took a good ten minutes, since there were so many knobs and buttons on it. Ashe wasn't exactly that big into technology.

There were cords everywhere. He had to try really hard not to trip over anything and he had to double check to make sure Boomy didn't stomp on anything he wasn't supposed to. He had a feeling that Boomy's feet would rip up the chords and pull all the computers down all around them, which would just create a giant mess that no one needed to deal with tonight! He had to keep those large clogs out of the way. No crushing things, either - it was important that Ashe kept valuables above his head range.
So far, Boomy was being well behaved and standing around. Fingers crossed he kept looking pretty and not doing anything else! A trophy pet, thats exactly what ashe needed from him tonight!
Casting an eye up at the stars above him, Ashe was startled to see how many were out right now. It wasn't even 10 o'clock yet and they were already so bright; pinpricks in the velvet night shining down at him.

Boomy was a shadow in the floodlights, his eyes catching the light and reflecting, sometimes eerily. Ashe smirked, reflecting on how, out of all of his pets, Boomy was probably the least intimidating.
Right now, he reminded himself. Least intimidating right now. Eventually, this little beastie would grow to gigantic proportions, assuming Ashe fed him right. That was how he'd gotten his name, after all. One look at those feet and Ashe knew his footfalls would one day sound like booms going off.
Once he was done setting up, it was time to go find a scientist to become the Assistant of. He had to find a clipboard, a pad of paper, and a pencil - when he found those things, he walked up and introduced himself to the scientist. He said, "Hi I'm Ashe, and I'm here to record anything that you need me did report! Anything at all that you think is interesting, I'm your man. Let's start with your name, beautiful?"

Of course, he'd had to find the loveliest scientist available, of fhe female persuasion. Not that Ashe judged, but he gravitated toward the feminine, finding them to be most susceptible to his charms. The tougher, more self sufficient, the less likely she was to be impressed. Aahe wasn't here to find a lifelong companion, as he already had that. He was here for some fun while working!
Boomy walked between them suddenly, making a soft grunting noise. It seemed like he was interested in the woman, too! Ashe smirked, but internally rolled his eyes. There was no way Ashe was going to be able to compete with something cute as Boomy!
The lady scientist smiled at them both; first at Ashe, and he swore her eyes sparkled when she did, and then at Boomy. She spoke to Ashe, but she stooped to the ground so she could pet Boomy. "My name is Lexi. Nice to meet you, Ashe, and….?"

"This is Boomy. I revived him from a fossil at the museum. His kind used to roam these parts, apparently… before they died off." Or so Ashe assumed, because why else would he have found hid DNA in the mines under the earth?
"Boomy. Cute name! Thank you, both of you, so much for helping! Without your help, we would still be setting up… So many electronics to record this once in a lifetime event… so much to do." She heaved a sigh. "But the hard part should be over, with any luck! The fun will begin soon. Once we see the comet it will all be worth the struggle!"
Boomy started to nibble lightly on the scientist's scrubs, and she gently shooed him away, but held his head in her hands and stroked his face. He seemed to enjoy this, because he stood still without squirming. Ashe was low key impressed that she was able to soothe him so easily, a creature she had probably never seen before.

"Do you have any pets?" Ashe asked her, conversationally. Lexi seemed nice and as long as they wouldn't get in trouble for having a short conversation, he'd like to take a moment to get to know her. She was already at first base with his fossil pet, after all.
"I have an Enileaf back home, but that's all." She gave a little smile, thinking back to her feline. Ashe noticed that she stroked Boomy the way someone might pet a cat, too. He found this amusing, but tried not to let it show so much on his face. Instead, he gave her a nod of understanding. Even if he didn't understand how someone could only have one pet. He had a whole zoo! She was probably more busy than he was, though, what with the sciency stuff. Not that Ashe didn't have a full plate as it was; but he did have a full plate because he had such a menagerie back home.

Boomy grunted a little bit, shoved his face into her body once last time for some scratches, then he plodded off to investigate something else. His feet, if Ashe was any judge, might one day shake the ground, but right now he was just casually crushing the grass. And just the grass. Ashe kept an eye on him to make sure he didn't get tangled up in any of the wires, or bring any of the tables down. While he watched, he asked her a few more questions, casual stuff like how'd she get into the job slot she occupied, and why, and what was something she really wanted to accomplish. He nodded and smiled over her answers, but his replies were shorter and more vague. He told her the best things about himself, of course, like running the Aquarium and taking care of a bunch of animals. You know, the things a scientist might like! But kept the boring stuff quiet.

"What else should be be doing?" Ashe asked suddenly, realizing that people were still scrambling around. Perhaps more so than they had been before! Was it getting close to time? He must have lost track while they were talking. He jerked around, looking for Boomy, and quickly found him munching on some leaves off of a tree nearby. Low hanging branches, of course, and what any friendly scientist would pick and feed to him. He breathed a sigh of relief.
"If you want, you could help me calibrate one of these telescopes?" Lexi said, gesturing with her clipboard. Ashe nodded, indicating that he would gladly help her. He walked over and started to look through the lens, amazed at how big the stars seemed through this weird tube.
"Whoa…" he said, and he heard her chuckle.
"That's nothing yet! Just wait until the comet comes out!"
If the stars looked this cool, Ashe could only imagine what a comet might look like.

"We can see the comet with just our eyes, right?" Ashe asked, still looking around at the stars. So bright, so small and so far away! And comets were cool, he knew from his limited experience. They had a tail of, what, burning gas or something that followed them? Science was not his strong suit, at least not this kind of science. He did like biology and living animals. What made them living and kept them living, especially. Just weird electrical sparks zapping through neurons and stuff. Like magic.
"Yes, you'll be able to see it, but I'll also let you look through here for a minute, if you like. But I'll have to be taking notes - rather, I narrate what you will write down for me..." She trailed off, as if suddenly shy. "That is, if you for sure want to help me."
Ashe opened his mouth to reply, but was interrupted by Boomy knocking something over. His head jumped into his throat at the sound.

Ashe jerked around to see just what it was that he had knocked over, and felt a wave of relief when he saw it was a couple of folding chairs. Not a table, not an expensive computer, not an even more expensive telescope. Just some chairs. He turned to Lexi and made an apologetic gesture. "Excuse me a moment," He said, and slipped away to retrieve his child. Boomy looked up at him as he approached, his tail thumping against a table leg, but not hard enough to cause trouble. Ashe grabbed him by the harness and gave a tug, trying to get him away. Boomy, thankfully, seemed pleased to see a familiar face and forgot everything he had been doing previously. He walked easily enough with Ashe back to Lexi and their set up. He decided to hold onto the harness, though, so he could make sure he knew where Boomy was at all times, and what exactly he was getting his long necked nose into.

"Sorry about that. Kids, what can ya do..." He gave a hopeless shrug. "Where were we? Talking about the comet, I think."
Lexi was smiling through all of this, and nodded her head in understanding. Ashe made a mental note to ask her if she had children, too, or if she was simply seeing it through his actions and being patient with him. Someone without these experiences should be yelling at him to get his fossilized pet out of this delicate situation! "I was asking if you were going to be assisting me in taking notes. If I tell you what to write down. So I don't have to take my eye off the comet to write, and find my place all over again..."
Ashe nodded quickly, eagerly. "Yes, of course! That's why I'm here, to help out in any way I can!" He kind of felt weird about not taking the guardian job; usually, he was pretty decent about guarding and patrolling.
