The "Abandoned Pets Adoption Agency" - Sevyrn had seen it around, even debating stopping in before, even if just to check it out. She'd heard that it was a great place to go to find someone new to bring home and give a second life, which sounded like an amazing day in theory. Sevyrn was always open to bringing home some new friends, especially if there happened to end up being some equillion or ghaenelt, two of her favourite species. Just one, she told herself - just enough that she would be able to stay focused on them in the way that they deserved - if anything at all.
As she walked through the front doors she found herself nervous - she was going to have to prove that she deserved the right to bring someone home, which was a great practice, but let her unnerved feeling that she wouldn't be considered.
ID #0133 Species: Wild Equillion Age: Juvenile (Anti-Grown)
She was handed a stack of papers that her gaze briefed over as she was guided in to the back to see the many creatures available for adoption within these walls - the adoption forms. It seemed to be that five was the maximum amount of creatures one was able to apply for at once... that was okay - she was only going to need one, two at best. The last thing that Sevyrn wanted to do was overload herself with new faces, unsure that she would even be able to care for them in the amazing way that the deserved. Stepping around the room she carefully observed the creatures for a moment, figuring out what faces she would like to meet first. It was a hard decision to make, especially given that she was only looking to take a couple home. She had a feeling that she knew which two she wanted to meet first.
She had picked the right time to come here, it seemed.
Within one of the smaller cages was a young red ghaenelt - a baby form of the hydra breed, if she called correctly. Her heart melted at the sight of it - and it would likely make an amazing companion for her other baby, Brin. Given that Bez already made a good big brother to the one young ghaenelt that she owned, Sevyrn found her heart set on that little thing. On the other side of the room was a rather adorable equillion, as well. It was a youngling, in its juvenile stage of life - and the same variety as one of her dearest creatures, Kika.
It was like fate... upon seeing those two, Sevyrn knew exactly which pair that her heart was set on. She jotted their identification numbers on to the adoption forms, and then she was allowed access to them for a while.
She had such a heart for the young ones - their juvenile naivety, curious nature, natural excitement... everything about them just made her heart well in pure adoration as she got the privilege of watching them grow and bloom in to adults. The agency was willing to let her spend time with them - wanted her to. Sevyrn saw that as a point that put them in her good books - they didn't want the creatures here to go with just anyone, she wanted to make sure that there would be a good fit between the animal and the person looking after them.
Left alone with the pair for a while, Sevyrn was happy to get to know these two young faces. She'd brought a variety of treats and toys to share with them, and figured it was best to start with the treats. After putting her backpack down, she offered the equillion a carrot fresh from home.
It was rather timid - unsurprising, considering that Sevyrn was but a stranger to it. That wouldn't be a problem, animals were one of the few things in the world that Sev had endless patience for. Rather than trying to force her attention upon the equillion she turned towards the ghaenelt, also rather shy yet much more interested in exploring and checking out the much bigger stranger. Sevyrn let it sniff at her hands and with a smile beaming wide across her freckled face she carefully reached away from the little thing as not to spook her, hand returning with her fingers closed around a little snack that waited in her palm.
"What do you think of this?" She asked in a sweet little voice, the kind saved for the innocent, as she held out a little piece of dried meat to the ghaenelt. Its expression turned quizzical for a moment before it eagerly took it from her, putting its paws up on Sevyrn's hand to be able to take it straight from her palm.
This baby already had her by the heartstrings - it was going to hurt if her application to adopt it was rejected. Sevyrn was quick to attach even when it came to people, that need was only amplified when there were critters - especially baby critters - involved.
"You are such a little sweetheart," she cooed to the baby as it finished up its snack and dashed off. It seemed that her sweet presence with the baby, and perhaps a bit of time to figure out what was going on, had warmed the equillion up a little as well. As the ghaenelt dashed off, the equid cautiously stepped closer and closer bit by bit. Once Sevyrn noticed that, she reached back towards the carrot she held earlier, and offered it out to the young wild. "Yeah, I have something for you as well. Would you like a treat? It's freshly picked, my mares at home love them."
Sevyrn had plenty of experience with equillion - she had been around them since she was just a child, and as an adult had a group of them that she called her own. She was always willing to add another excited face to the herd and there she had no doubt that the older members of the group wouldn't struggle at all to take a newcomer under their wing. The one in front of her approached, still rather shy, and took the carrot from Sevyrn with a tentative, hesitant lean towards her. As soon as the carrot was secured between its jaws, the flighty little thing ran right back off.
Sevyrn absolutely enjoyed the playful, curious nature of young ones... With time they would hopefully come to be friends, even if the juveline was currently stuck in the stage where they had no idea who this person was or if they even wanted to know. Oh, well... the ghaenelt still seemed to want to play, so Sev could focus on them.
The ghaenelt chittered and squealed as Sevyrn made friendly with it, coming in to tickle its belly knowing very well that it's little claws were sharp and would likely end up giving her at least a scratch or two. That was alright - she didn't immerse herself in animal care because she was afraid of them just... living. Playing, getting excited, accidentally causing minor discomfort.
Despite the way that the equillion didn't seem to want to interact with her up front, Sevyrn couldn't help but notice it peering closer to her from afar, always watching. It had been watching the first time that she had put her attention on to the much more willing little ghaenelt as well. Wilds could be flighty breeds, quick to spook - she had one of her own, and that one's mother as well once upon a time, and knew that very well. She just had to show the young one that she was safe.
With time the young equillion did come to warm up to Sevyrn, who had focused her attention on the much more willing little ghaenelt in the interim. She was thrilled when the equillion first came over to her, closer than ever before - it had even started nudging at her shoulder before nuzzling against her ear with its muzzle. The touch, while affectionate, pushed the woman's glasses straight out of place, and Sevyrn's movement to readjust had spooked the little creature again - but not so much this time. This time they only jolted back a step, only to lean back in with an outstretched neck, its body as far back as it could muster.
Then, with slow and careful movements, Sevyrn was able to reach towards the young equillion and give her a good stroke for the first time. Though the little thing was hesitant about allowing the touch, after a few moments she finally stepped even closer.
After having some time to bond with the equillion, Sevyrn found herself falling in love with the little things bright, energetic personality - and with the same time, the equine grew fonder of her as well. If she was lucky enough, the equillion was going to fit well in to her herd, and the ghaenelt would make an excellent sibling and playmate for Brin... Maybe give Bez a break from being the youngling's only friend to play with.
"Oh I love both of you already," she mused out loud. Moments like this were why she had been born with two hands - one to scratch the underside of the little ghaenelt's chin, and the other to stroke through the equillion's mane as it nosed at her bag, hoping to find more carrots. The equillion was out of luck - Sevyrn had already handed out the last of the available treats. If they were lucky, they would be getting more soon enough.
