Another day, another Houluh breeding it would seem, she thought with a laugh. Moonbeam, the sweetheart she was, trotted alongside her as she walked toward the Breeding Center. She wasn't sure what was going to happen, only that she had seen pictures of the Patronne they were going to meet, which was fantastic. He was a handsome animal and she had to admit she was a little jealous. Hopefully he and Moonbeam would make some lovely kits together, but it was always up in the air from time to time. Smiling, she entered the Center and then had Moonbeam sit next to her as she started to fill out paperwork, keeping an eye on the door as she did so, to try and keep an eye on the person she was meeting. This would go well, even though she didn't think she had met this person yet, but hopefully they would get along.

Aubrey knew that pups could only stay pups for so long, but he hadn't been prepared for just how fast they would all grow up on him. It seemed like it was just yesterday that he could still pick them up - and had to, because they were chewing on everything he owned, up to and including the furniture. Fortunately he had managed to put a stop to that before they grew, or else the state of his house would be in real trouble with three fully grown dogs making nuisances of themselves.
He hadn't really expected to breed them; Joker, in particular, had been a stray that his Tat-Lung brought home. But someone had been interested, and who was he to say no? He figured he might as well try everything once.
At least Joker knew how to walk nicely on a leash, so they didn't look like total fools walking up to the building.

She worked on filling out the paperwork with a little sigh, she couldn't wait to see what Moonbeam's pups would look like, especially since they would be Luna's great-grandkids. That was the interesting thing about breeding so much, her lines intertwined and she wasn't sure what to do about it. Well, at least these two would make some great pups, she had a feeling, and there wasn't anything that was going to take that away. Grinning now, she held onto the paperwork as she saw someone coming up to the building with a Houluh in tow. The Patronne seemed to walk nicely, which was definitely a bonus, and she waved and walked over to the door with Moonbeam in tow. The Houluh pawed at the door until the woman opened it up and said happily, "Hey there, you Aubrey?" She hoped so at least, this looked like the Houluh in the picture, right?

There was only one person there with another Houluh that Aubrey could see, and she took the trouble of greeting him first, so he smiled in relief and said, "That's me! And this is Joker. Say hi, boy!"
Joker's tail wagged at the sound of his own name, though his attention was already elsewhere. There were new people to meet, and new smells to sniff. Even the other Houluh was a novelty, since he had only ever hung around the same two playmates since he had come to Aubrey's household. Aubrey didn't know if Joker had had friends before this, but Aubrey had certainly never taken him to group settings with other dogs before.
"You're Jack, then?" he said. "Nice to meet you. It's, uh, our first time here, so..." He trailed off, not sure what else to say, though he could see the paperwork was already filled out. That was one more load off his mind.

"Hi there Joker!" Jack said, beaming at the Houluh. Her ring let her talk to the entire species, and she twisted it as she talked, Moonbeam giving her a dry look for a moment before she trotted over to Joker and sniffed at him before giving a small bark. She was happy to see another Houluh, though she didn't know what they were there for, and she tilted her head a little. A sweet little thing, the Houluh pawed at him to see if he was willing to play.
"That'd be me! This is Moonbeam, third generation already down from my first Houluh, Luna," Jack said proudly, passing over the paperwork, "I've got it filled out from what I knew, so if it looks good then we're good to go! We just have to give it to the attendants and then we go to a room and let them do their thing. Pups are born pretty quickly, there's always three of them, we each get one and then the third goes to the Houluh Adoption Agency."

"Hi Moonbeam," Aubrey said, smiling but not quite sure how to approach the other Houluh. He knew his own pups, but just like they'd never met other dogs... Well, neither had Aubrey. He wasn't sure what the proper etiquette was for something like that.
As for Jack's comment about them 'doing their thing'... He laughed awkwardly, flushing a little. He knew it was just the natural way of things, but it felt like not that long ago that he was still potty training Joker as a pup, so this was all happening a bit quickly for him.
Joker exchanged a polite greeting sniff with Moonbeam, then wagged his tail and barked at her invitation. Aubrey kept an eye on him, but he wasn't too worried just yet. Joker was the most easygoing of his three pups, so he was probably the most likely to have decent manners, and he'd already been taught not to bite.

"We honestly can even stand outside of the room if you're uncomfortable," Jack told him with a sympathetic frown. It could be awkward for new breeders, but she had been there once as well, and now she didn't even notice it as long as she had some good company. Smiling, she took the papers over to the desk and slid them to the attendant before whistling for Moonbeam who had shot off down the hallway to try and get the Patronne to chase her. Barking sadly, she trotted over to the woman again and then plopped down in front of her, panting.
The woman motioned for Aubrey to follow with a smile, "We can wait here for a little while or we can go back to a room now and see how they get along before we leave them in there alone?" She tilted her head a little as she awaited an answer.

Aubrey's flush only deepened, and his smile only grew more apologetic. "I'm sorry," he said hurriedly, "I don't mean to be, er, delicate about it, it's just that..." He trailed off, not sure where he was even going with that sentence. Was it normal to be sweaty?
He really didn't have a problem meeting people, normally, but he didn't think he was making a great impression here so far.
The good thing was that Joker wasn't paying enough attention to him to notice Aubrey's unease. He had only started to give chase when Moonbeam made her way back, and stood there, looking a little confused.
"It looks like they're ready to go, at least," Aubrey said. "What do you think would be better? Do they... They don't pay attention to us either way, do they?" His ears fell slightly, betraying his uncertainty as he glanced at the two Houluh again.

Giving another smile to the poor guy she was with, he looked so uncertain about things and that was perfectly fine, she shook her head, "As far as I can tell they don't really pay attention to anyone other than each other at that point. It's not like they watch while things are happening, after all." Moonbeam barked and pounced at Joker with a happy look on her face. There were a lot of other Houluh at the Kennel, of course, but it was always fun to play with someone new and outside of the Kennel. She pranced around him and then pawed a little at him, wondering what to do with him and why they were there. Did he know?
"Don't worry, everything will be fine, it always is, I've done this plenty of times, okay?" she told him patiently, letting him come to his own conclusions when it came to this.

"I'll try my best not to," Aubrey said, still looking a little unsure. He paused, wondering if he really ought to say this, but Jack had seemed nice enough so far, and he hadn't had a chance to talk to anyone who was more... experienced with Houluh. "I just worry, you know, because two of mine, Joker and another one, we found them as strays. You really wouldn't know from looking at him now..."
The Houluh in question went into a play bow, tail wagging, then darted away down the hall like she had, before stopping and looking back to see if Moonbeam would chase him. Aubrey smiled despite himself; Joker had liked to run since he was a pup. "He's cleaned up nice and he's got playmates at home, but like I said, I'm pretty new to all this. It feels like if I'm not careful, something might happen to him again, maybe."

Listening to his story, Jack nodded a few times. Wow, he was a stray? Glancing over at where Joker and Moonbeam were playing, she reached out to put a hand on Aubrey's shoulder, "Everything's going to be fine, I promise. I can't believe he was a stray though, it's impressive he's doing so well with you! He seems very well mannered so far, and Moonbeam is a gentle soul, she won't hurt him if that's part of why you're worried." She gave it some thought for a little bit, tapping her chin as she did so. Hmm, now there was a thought... "You know, I have an extensive Kennel, if you want to socialize yours a little more, feel free to bring them over sometime and see how they do? I have a couple of aggressive ones, but I've trained them to be nice to others, I can always keep them back if you'd like," the woman offered with a smile on her face.
Moonbeam yipped and charged after him down the hallway, happily chasing after him to see what they could do.

Aubrey smiled, looking a little more relaxed now. It was kind of funny. Creatures got adopted or bought or sold or even lost here all the time, so it shouldn't have been a big deal, but he was sort of new to this whole... raising animals deal in general. "I don't think he was a stray for all that long," Aubrey admitted. "Maybe someone lost him. The other one I have, Loki, he was practically feral, but Joker's always liked people."
As soon as he saw that Moonbeam was in pursuit, Joker continued sprinting down the hall. He got a nice clip going, but he hadn't anticipated the dead end, and all of a sudden he was scrambling to brake. He slid until his rump hit the wall, then scrambled, claws clicking over the floor.
"That's a really kind offer," Aubrey said to Jack. "I'd really like that. You wouldn't have any books I should read on them too, would you?"

"You know I might?" Jack said as she thought about it for a few moments, "I do have something on the breeding and genetics at least, I'm sure I could find you a copy of a behavioral book as well, though we may have to go somewhere for that. I'd be happy to get you one though?" Smiling happily, she nodded as though that was that and then motioned for him to follow the Houluh with her, "I guess they're ready to play a little! The rooms are a decent size, and there's less of a chance of them running into anyone that way."
Moonbeam skidded and stared at the Patronne and whined when he hit the floor. She ran over to him and stared as he skidded again and then barked at him, hoping to help calm him down a bit before she came over to him and attempted to lick at him, making sure he was alright.

Breeding and genetics... At those words, confusion clouded Aubrey's face again. "I guess I have a lot to learn still," he said. "It took me ages to figure out the paperwork when I was getting them registered... I'd love the book on behaviors though! Sometimes I still feel like I don't know what they're trying to tell me." Aubrey was doing his best to learn, but he didn't even know what he was supposed to be focusing on just yet.
At Jack's comment, he looked back at Joker, just in time to see the predicament that he had gotten himself into. "Oh, right!" Aubrey said. He had almost forgotten about the rooms. "I'm so sorry. He likes to run. Neither of my other Houluh are as fast as he is, so I guess he's trying to see if she can give him a run for his money... Do we just... open the room ourselves?"
