"It's okay, I can definitely help you out if you have questions," the woman smiled, "You can definitely get that book the next time we meet up, I'll have it for you then! I hope we do soon. I will say, having the ring to talk to them helps, but they're pretty expensive. I have one for Houluh and one for Sarane, so it helps when figuring out what they want." She twisted the ring around her finger again with a little grin on her face, as though it was some clever trick.
"Yep! If it's busy they ask that we wait, but it's not so they usually don't care," Jack told him, opening the nearest room and calling Moonbeam to her. She whined but trotted over to her, checking over her shoulder to see if Joker would follow. "I bet she's not as fast, honestly. She's pretty sweet, but not really a racing or hunting type, more of a companion," the woman added with a nod as she entered the room.

"Oh, that's a relief to - I didn't want to ask, in case you were busy - I'll be sure to do that," Aubrey said, tripping over his words slightly. Jack's comment about rings had him inclining his head. "The... ring? I'm not sure I follow." But then, if they were expensive, it was probably something he hadn't even seen before. He didn't make much money when he had first moved out into the city proper, and that hadn't really changed, despite his best efforts. He was trying to work on cultivating his garden, maybe getting a better agricultural set-up, but things just seemed to keep happening to stall that. Like having three puppies, suddenly, landing in his lap one after another.
Aubrey watched as Joker followed Moonbeam into the room, apparently forgetting Aubrey's presence entirely. Was this the bittersweet feeling of watching your kid leave you to go hanging with his friends?
"Are there really Houluh races?" he said.

Jack laughed a bit and found a seat for herself as Moonbeam turned on Joker and batted at him playfully with a forepaw. "I always have something to do honestly, but I always have time for people who need help. Don't feel ashamed if you ever need anything, okay?" she said happily. She always had something to train or work with, mining and gardening, not to mention fishing and the Mansion. There was always something to do, but she always tried to make time for her friends, she knew what it was like to have no one willing to help out, she didn't want to be the cause of that feeling in other people.
"I meant more racing another Houluh for fun. They do have Salonnes if you're interested in a Maestre di Marq for any of your Houluh! It seems to influence the outcome of the pups, plus you can order this really cool Offering to Order from the Contest Hall that makes the pups silky and really furry."

"That is a really kind offer. I'll take you up on it sometime if it's not too much of a hassle." Aubrey smiled sheepishly and rubbed at the back of his neck. "I guess I should be going to more Houluh-centric events, shouldn't I? It'd be nice to meet more people." He hadn't really thought of himself as being particularly isolated, but come to think of it, it had been a while since he had a normal conversation with someone.
Most of what she said next went over his head too, but he decided to pick one word he didn't know and start from there. "What's a Salonne, exactly? I hear someone say it from time to time, but... Is it some sort of show?"
Joker was taking a page out of Moonbeam's book this time, and pawed at her right back. Chasing hadn't worked out so well for him, so maybe he would see what this game was about.

"Never a hassle," came the kind words and a smile before listening to his next question, "A Salonne is a Houluh only contest in the Contest Hall. They have five different kinds, I think right now they're taking entrants for working Houluh, so anything that could have a job and is trained for that kind of thing will have the best shot at winning. The only thing is, if you win a Salonne, you can never enter another Salonne with that same Houluh. Which is fine! It's good for breeding really. Can't have too many champions out there." She stuck out her tongue a little to show she was kidding.
Moonbeam nuzzled up to Joker after a moment and licked at his cheek. He was nice and silly and she liked him a lot. Would they stay together for awhile? She tilted her head at him and then woofed, a low sound as she stared at him with soulful eyes.

"Working, huh..." Aubrey thought about it. Maybe he would enter, just to see what was what, though he didn't think any of his Houluh had what he would consider a 'working' education. He had a lot to think about now. The conversation had been a lot more enlightening than he had expected, though he had even more things to look into now than he had before he had gotten here. Just how deep did this rabbit hole go?
Joker's tail thumped against the ground, pleased beyond reason that Moonbeam was giving him so much attention! She was looking at him so cutely, too, his tail wagged even harder the more she look at him. It made him feel good! He licked her right back and nuzzled her cheek before tucking his head over her neck for a snuggle. This was nice, too! Even if it wasn't a game of chase.
