He understood the concept well enough, he just needed to summon fire, but he wasn’t quite sure what Kadin was asking of him quite yet. Considering Kadin hadn’t really explained what he wanted, exactly, from Lucio, properly, in terms that the drake could understand, this was pretty understandable. Kadin took a step back. He tried to explain that there was a fire in Lucio. Lucio already knew this. He lived with this fire ever since the injection. Kadin tried to get him to think about how he felt warm sometimes or coughed out flame sometimes. Lucio was aware. It happened to him, after all. Kadin just really needed him to do the same thing only breathe it out and stronger as a full on attack. Ah. That made more sense.
Kunzite remembered what it was like to be trained. It wasn’t that bad, really. It knew a few things. But it didn’t understand why the human insisted on slowing down progress of finding gems just to do more training. All of the time. Why even come to the mines at all if he wasn’t going to actually use them for their purpose, which was searching for treasures? Not whatever it was he was doing now.

Is that gold? No way, there's no chance, but there is a darker thing sitting there all alone.

So Lucio thought about it a bit. Kadin was right, he had sometimes coughed out flames before he did sort of know what Kadin was talking about. He didn’t quite understand why the human was explaining it in such a confusing way, but he was able to parse out what he wanted from him. So he decided to give it a try. Lucio envisioned when he would sneeze and create flames or when he would cough and create flames and he tried to do the same thing again, since that seemed to be what the human wanted. He coughed out a few flames, luckily not in the direction of Kadin, and Kadin praised him for that and gave him a treat because it was a good start to what they wanted to do.
Kunzite continued to judge what the human was doing as he watched him work with the drake in the mines. This really was an inappropriate thing to teach in the mines. Kunzite was not wrong about that. Not only was it a safety hazard that all of this fire was going on in the mines but also it could accidentally hit any creatures that might come up on them like that baby Drake of last time.

Kadin then tried to encourage Lucio to do it without just coughing. He wanted him to actually bring out the flames voluntarily, not just as if it was an accident. Lucio was a bit annoyed with this request since his initial attempt had been made under Kadin’s suggestions, but apparently Kadin wanted something completely different from him. Lucio KNEW how to summon flames. He’d done it before! But the human seemed to be under the impression he wouldn’t be able to do it right away and kept giving confusing instructions. Lucio thought about it for a bit, and he took in a deep breath. That was the basis for the cough, after all. Kadin apparently wanted him to build off that.
But no matter. It was a human's fault at the end of the day and the mining familiar did not need to really deal with all of this since it wasn't any of its business. The Familiar seem to eventually decide that you know it just didn't care. It was going to continue to look for gems even if the human was training inappropriate creatures in the mines. With that a mind the familiar went to look for gems.

If Kadin wanted him to just produce flames that were stronger than a cough, starting like this must be the same thing for him doing flames normally. He took in that great big deep breath and then let out a small bit of fire, figuring that this was what the human expected of him. Kadin still praised him for that and gave him a treat because that was still progress. And then he encouraged him to do it again because you know they need to do a lot of repetition in order to actually get this down. Lucio silently tried it again. He figured that the human seemed to want him to start increasing the power of his flames. He took in another deep breath and let out another small fire.
It started wandering back in the Dark Shadows of the caverns where gyms were usually easier to find. They weren't that deep in the mines so it didn't think that it would be able to find anything actually useful. But it was still going to try. it didn't sense anything big nearby. But it still turned over any nearby rocks or places where the earth look recently disturbed to see if I could find anything.

This one was a little bit bigger than the last one. Kadin praised him for it and gave him some more treats. After that, he continued to encourage Lucio to keep trying to do more fire because that was what they were trying to do. He wanted him to slowly build up from weaker flames to stronger ones. Lucio was still a bit annoyed with the whole process, but he was finally beginning to understand what was expected of him. Lucio continued to practice and every time he took in that deep breath and let it out, the fire he was creating was getting bigger and bigger and brighter and brighter. He was slowly increasing the intensity until he was able to find one that the human approved of.
There wasn't really much to be found. At the end of the day they were still in the early areas of the mines so it was hard to find different gyms. But after a long time of searching the familiars persistence finally paid off. There was a flash of gold out of the corner of its eye and it slipped through the Shadows towards it quickly. It wanted to find it before anything else could.

After a certain point, what Kadin really needed was for Lucio to be able to direct the fire at a target next and in order to actually do damage. So the next thing Kadin was trying to get Lucio to do was to direct these fires and actually hit the targets that he had laid out for him. So Kadin once again redirected Lucius attention back to those rocks and tried to have him breathe his fire in the direction of the rocks. Lucio was relieved that he didn’t have to just breathe fire over and over again, seemingly without any direction. Turning it into a command for an attack made much more sense to him.
Especially since there are so few to find out here it needed to get the gems that it did find as quickly as possible. It's swept onto the bit of gold swirling around it. It's something little bit when it noted that it was an actual gold and just as stone with a golden hue. But a stone was a stone and a gem was a gem. The Familiar was still pleased with its find even if it wasn't as valuable as it initially thought.

Kunzite could feel something more than the gold that wasn't gold nearby. It's swept up the gold that wasn't gold and brought it to where the human was in the hopes that he would take it and keep it safe for now. In the meantime he needed to go search out what it was feeling next. It wasn't sure what else was down here so close to the entrance of the mines but it was going to find out.
Lucio stared at the rocks for a bit then with a nod to himself took in the deep deep breath and let out a small bit of fire. It wasn’t as impressive as the bigger ones he’d been able to do before after a little bit of practice, but you know it was better than nothing. Lucio didn’t want to go all out just yet, he still wanted a sense of what Kadin wanted to do. Kadin decided to give them a treat anyway and some praise since he still did technically follow his commands. Because, at the end of the day, Lucio was trying and he was following Kadin’s commands. Kadin encouraged him to do it again and keep on trying.

He wanted him to breathe flame at the rock that he needed to target. Lucio continued to practice and started breathing fire. His fires became bigger and bigger at the target that he was given. Eventually he was able to summon fire that was actually hitting the target, the correct target, and also seemed almost even hot enough to melt something that was actually flammable if it was directed towards it. Maybe he could even melt some of the rock if he kept practicing. Kadin was sure to give him praise and treats after every successful breathe fire because he wanted to make sure Lucio knew that he was doing a good job. Now they really just need to polish it up to make sure Lucio had it completely down.
Kunzite wandered further into the caverns looking here and there. It turned over more rocks and chipped away at the walls of the caverns sticking its head in here in there to try to see what it was feeling. And you know there was something somewhere it just needed to find it. After searching high and low all over the place only then was when it came across what it was looking for.

So Kadin encouraged Lucio to continue practicing. He had him continue to breathe fire at the same rock over and over again with progressively stronger and stronger flames. He judged how strong the flames were based on how big they were and how much they seemed to scorch rock Lucio was luckily able to get over that initial problem where he wasn’t really doing that well creating very strong flames rather quickly. He did know how to breathe fire, after all, they’d just had trouble with Kadin’s explanations before. It wasn’t too surprising considering that it was a move that was relatively natural to him by this point, after his injection.
It was a black stone darker than anything it had seen recently. It wasn't quite sure what the use of such a stone would be, but it knew that the human would probably want it, and it also wanted it because it was after all a gem. It swept the stone up into its shadows and brought it back over to where the human and the Drake we're working. Even if it was peeved with the human it was still going to bring back the gems.

After that, Kunzite went to search for some more. It knew that there were more gems here even if they are still so shallow in the mines. It didn't hold out any hope for finding anything useful but it was still going to try. After all if they were in the mines this was his purpose. If they were in the mines this was what it was good at. And this was what it wanted to come to the mines floor and not anyting else like stupid training.
Kadin continued to encourage him to do stronger and stronger flames after each time he gave praise and treats and Kadin kept encouraging him through the ribbon as well. Kadin had him continue breathing fire at the same rock until he felt like that it probably suffered enough abuse. Then they turned to a different rock to start breathing fire at that one and he’d have him do the same thing over again and over again making sure that he was doing stronger and stronger flames at the rock. Once Lucio seemed to have it down on the second rock he decided to just randomly direct him to a bunch of different places and breathe fire at it.

Kunzite started searching yet again. It turned over rocks and lumps in all sorts of different things in the mines. It found a lot of junk rocks and a lot of things that were useless, a lot of things that it didn't even bother bringing back to the human. Those it left behind because it didn't need those it didn't want those. It's frustration was growing when all of a sudden a shine showed from the shadows.
He wanted to make sure that he was successfully breathing fire over and over again with the command both mentally and when he said it out loud. So Kadin would point to a bunch of different locations and different rocks and have him breathe fire at it until he was satisfied that Lucio completely had to move breathe fire down. They continued practicing for a while more after that, just to see if Lucio could learn how to do any trick shots or to temper his fire down and heat it back up while he was doing the attack. They tried to have a little fun with it, just to take a little break from most of the training. Then they'd be able to move on to the next thing.

Next up Kadin wanted to teach Lucio how to be intimidating. He already knew plenty of moves and abilities that would give them a leg up but he also sort of needed to have that extra edge against his opponents. For this Kadin decided to bring another pet into the mines as well. He went over to the cart to get out the houluh that had been napping within it. The houluh had been asleep for much of this time, but now it was time for it to help contribute for the training. It probably wasn’t a surprise that, out of all the pets he could have brought with him for this part, it was a houluh.
Kunzite went over to investigate the shine. It was another rock. This one wasn't special, just like the other ones before, although it had a nice blue hue and a few other colors in it. The human would probably be mistaken and thinking it was something very valuable. Kunzite swept it up anyway and brought it back over to where the human and the drake were. Every gem that it found was worth something to it.
The puppy was a little bit nervous to be down here in the dark. It looked around with big eyes when the human brought it out of the cart, especially looking at that big drake over there! But it trusted the human that it came with. The human gave it lots of good food and belly rubs and cuddle so it thought that it was a good person.
