The human had treats!
"Lux."
The human was making noise again, but Lux was too busy sniffing his hands to pay attention. Maybe he had more treats? He didn't see any in his hands, but he could still smell them. And if he could smell them he could find them! They had to be somewhere!
"Lux..."
One of the human's hands moved and Lux couldn't help but look up, surprised and delighted when he saw that there was a treat up there! By the human's face! But it wasn't handing it over so Lux looked at the human, hurt and confused as to why he'd betray him so.
"Lux! Good Lux! Good job!" Kadin said in relief, giving the puppy the treat once he made eye contact.
So the current set up would have to remain acceptable, for now. Even if the human kept bringing creatures not meant for the mines into the mines. They would still find gems, it would make sure of that, not matter how hard the human tried to make it. And no matter how annoying the creatures the human brought turned out to be. It would make due with what it had to for the sake of gems.

Boy they were being noisy. Kunzite really wished it could just disappear into the dark and leave them to their antics. It was embarrassing to be near them when they were being so loud. It would have preferred to be back down in that deep dark pool of water it had found last time, allowed to sink down into the depths to look for gems, rather than deal with having to be near them for all… this.
“Lux?”
The human had giving him a treat but still wanted MORE treats. He stared at the human’s hands, waiting for more treats to appear.
“Lux…”
The human kept saying words, though, and it sounded like the words were supposed to get something’s attention. Why make all that noise if you weren’t trying to get something’s attention? It was dangerous to make too much noise if you didn’t want attention on you.
“Come on, Lux.”
The human’s hands went UP by his face again and Lux looked over at him to see what all the fuss was about. He kept saying that word and looking at him and- oh! Was that word supposed to mean something to him?
“Lux.”

At least it could keep up its search while they were being. Themselves. Once it refocused on its task, it wasn’t long before it actually did find something. It was something greed, not as bright as it normally seemed in the mines, but a beautiful green non the less. It swept it up into its shadows to guard jealously, adding it to the rest of tits collection. It was a good find and it would not be giving it up easily.
The pup looked right at the human this time, yipping happily. Immediately, the human reached out to give him some treats and pats, which was amazing! He loved treats! This was the best day ever!
“Good, Lex. Good puppy. Let’s make sure you’ll actually respond to your name, yeah? I need some way of getting your attention.” The human said with a smile and a laugh, still giving pets. Lux still had no idea what he was talking about but it sure didn’t care!
“Lux.”
Lux looked at the human again, wagging its tail. The human gave him ANOTHER treat and rubbed his ears because he was such a good puppy! “Nice, did you finally get it? Let’s make sure.”

Not even to the human. But it was sure that it could find more than this so it kept searching. It stuck its head into the walls and earth, seeing if there was anything hiding there that it could dig up. For once, it stumbled across more luck and more… green. This green was even brighter, although trapped in a dull exterior, and it swirled in glee at the find. This was not a gem, no, but a precious metal was just as precious.
The humans said some more words that the puppy didn’t really understand, but then he said “Lux” again and he KNEW that that word mean love, treats, and pets so he looked up at the human again and yipped, wagging his tail and dancing around.
“Good boy, Lux! Good boy, that’s right! Maybe did you finally get it. Lux?” The pup walked up and put its paws on the human, wagging its tail even harder and looking right at him.
“Good boy!” Kadin gave him more treats and rubbed up and down his body, making him shiver in joy. “Good Lux, great job.” Kadin kept saying, giving him more pets.
“Why don’t we try something a little more tricky now?”

Looking around in the same area, it tried to find more hints of color, more indication that there was more to this place. It had already found so much and had do doubt in its abilities to find more. For a good reason, it seemed. Pink gleamed next, in the dark and shadows, more ore shining out to it as only a familiar could see. The human would be so blind, so lost without it. The human could never appreciate all it did to find for it.
The human offered next. Lux tilted its head and looked at him, not recognizing that species word in his sentences, but sure that the human still wanted its attention for some reason. Kadin scooped up the puppy and walked him over to a rock, placing him down next to it.
“Alright, let’s give this a shot.” He mused to himself. The human took out a treat and held it above the rock. “Jump up!” He told the pup. Lux just tilted his head and stared at the treat, tail slowly wagging back and forth. Sensing no moment from the puppy, Kadin shook his head and lowered to treat for Lux to sniff at.

Its senses were still detecting more. It searched and searched, behind rocks and through walls, eyeing cracking and exploring corners that were too dark for the human and houluh to notice with their weak senses and weak minds, even further dull in the minds. Eventually, it found it. Not as bright as the rest of its finds, but still a gem and still to be hoarded. It swept it up in the shadows, too, more than a little pleased with itself.
“Don’t you want this?” He asked, figuring he just needed to get the pup more motivation. “Well, jump up!” He moved the treat up and Lux followed it with his nose. Soon the treat was next to the rock. Then it was going up the side of the rock! Lux put his paws up on the rock and lifted himself up onto his back paws, nose working as he tried desperately to look cute so that he could have the treat. But the treat kept moving! It moved across the rock’s surface and Lux couldn’t reach it!
Whining, he bounced down onto all fours and then back up again. He hopped on his back legs a bit, front legs scrambling at the rock’s surface while he whined at the treat.

Kunzite was very pleased with itself. It was in such a good mood, it decided to take a momentary break from searching for gems to check in with Kadin and the dog. They were doing… something. It didn’t make much sense, truth be told. Going up onto rocks and not even looking for gems while there? Kunzite didn’t really approve of such activities. It lacked purpose.
When that didn’t do anything, he hopped a bit more tried to scramble up, but he couldn’t get a good food hold! So he had to crouch down and SPRING, flying up onto the rock and, scrambling, somehow managed not to fall off the other side. Kadin’s hand on his rump probably helped with that. Hehe. Oops.
Kadin rolled his eyes, but still said, “Good, Lux, Good jump up.” And gave him the treat. So that was all that mattered in the end.
Kadin scooped the pup up and put him back down on the ground. He wanted to make sure that Lux had a couple more practice tries to make sure it actually knew what it was going. Kadin showed the puppy another treat and held it over the rock, near the edge.

Of course, the only purpose that matter to it was finding gems, so it probably would disprove of their activities regardless. It eventually grew bored of watching them and decided it was time to find more shining things in the darkness. It could sense them out there, tickling at the edge of its senses, and it didn’t want to leave them for something else to find, not when it was already here and so close.
“Jump up!” He encouraged, watching the houluh whine as it eyed the treat. Lux really wanted the treat! But it was up on the rock again! It stood up on its back legs, placing its front legs up on the rock again, and hopped a bit to try and get up. It wasn’t working! But it had gotten up there before… Lux crouched down, tensing its muscles, and JUMPED up as high as it could! Kadin carefully caught the houluh so it wouldn’t fall over the edge, disguising it as giving it pets for a job well done.
“Good Lux! Good jump, here you go.” He said with a smiling, giving the pup a treat for his troubles yet again. That wasn't too bad.

So it ventured back into the shadows, looking for sparkling things hidden amongst the dark. The first that attracted it was blue and shining. The color was nice, something that would have suited another human it had known once, but not well. It had only seen a peak and then they were gone. But it gathered up the gem in its swirling darkness anyway. They were gone but it was here and it wanted this gem.
He put the houluh back onto the ground to repeat the process all over again. He wanted to make sure it could jump up on command. Being able to jump up without falling over the side would be good, too.
He held the treat up to the rock again. “Jump up!”
Lux caught on much faster this time. Almost right away, he crouched back, tail wagging a bit, and SPRUNG up to the rock! Kadin had to catch him yet again, but he didn’t really mind. “Good, Lux! Good job!”
He still praised and pet the pup just like before, sure that he would improve over time. It just took practice. So Kadin had him practice. They would repeat until Lux had this down for sure.

It continued its search, knowing that there was more nearby. The next gem was even brighter, yellow and shining, and drew its senses over like a moth to flame. It swirled around the gem, cheerful at its good luck, before gathering it up as well and brooding over its finds. There was still more out there, it could feel it, but it was growing heavy with gems and would need the human to take them off its form soon.
He kept using the same trick, holding up the treat by the edge of the rock, asking Lux to ‘jump up’ to get the treat, and helping he keep from scrambling over the edge.
Slowly but surely, he stopped helping Lux as much as the houluh seemed to start to find its own balance. Pretty sure, he was getting better as judging the height of his jump and didn’t practically go sailing over the rock with the force of his enthusiasm. Kadin was pretty satisfied when he could jump up onto the rock on his own without him having to panic and grab him before he fell right over. They kept repeating this until Lux could jump up and stay up with no assistance from Kadin at all, it probably took at least a dozen times.

Not too soon. There was still more to find. Something had been under the gems, blue and yellow, and it needed it too. Not a gem this time, but just as shiny, and it swirled around it in contemplation. Another ore. Luck! Surely? Ore was valuable and precious, for so many things, and it would treasure this one just as it treasured the others. It hid it away in its shadows and slowly slinked back to the human, heavy with gems and precious metals.
All that he wanted to do now was make sure Lux knew the command word without needing to be tempted by a treat.
Kadin pointed up to the rock again, as if he had a treat, but there was no treat in his hand this time. “Jump up!”
Lux didn’t seem to even notice he didn’t have a treat. He was so used to this by now he started to jump up before Kadin even finished saying the words! He knew that if he jumped up he’d get a treat and that’s all he needed! Plus, jumping up was fun! He’d probably do it even without a treat! He really liked it when Kadin petting him, too!

Oh no! The rocks shift and fall on one of your tools, breaking it! Looks like you’ll have to get it fixed before using it again. At least it was the tool, and not you or your pet!

Kunzite moved back to the human, burdened by all the gems and other things it had found. It needed Kadin to hold on to these. There were too many for it to continue to carry, even if it did not want to give them up. It was sure that Kadin would keep its hoard safe, at least. The human always showed it where the items were and it could trust it that far, if only to know that the gems were in a safe place. So it brought them over to him and was going to let him take them when there was a shifting in the rocks.
Well. That was. Not ideal. Kadin had just finished up with teaching Lux to jump up when, all of a sudden, some rocks shifted and fell around his tool. More specifically, they fell around where he left his flashlight to light up the surrounding area. Cursing quietly, Kadin walked over to bush aside dust and other debris to try and recover everything. Most of his stuff looked just fine, which was good, but he eventually dug up his flashlight and- yup. Broken. He tapped it against his hand, tried lighting it a few things.
