Kunzite jumped, having not sensed that there would be a small collapse. It seemed it also fell among the human's possessions. The familiar went over to the items with the human, mostly concerned in making sure that its gems were safe. The rocks had landed more among the tools than the things the human was storing so it SHOULD be fine, but it didn't hurt to be cautious. The gems, luckily, were safe. One of the tools the human insisted on bringing, not so much.
Nothing. With a sigh, he tossed it onto the cart with the other tools he wasn't using right now. At least he had other lights with him and he wasn't entirely reliant on the flashlight. But nothing really worked better for focusing in on shit than a flashlight did.
While Kadin was away from the puppy, Kunzite made its way over to him. It passed over some gems for him to hold on to. The familiar seemed to be doing pretty well for itself, actually, and Kadin was pleased with its finds. "Good search, Kunzite." He said happily, thumbing through the items it had given him. It wasn't bad at all. Plenty of different colors, that was for sure.

Not that it mattered. The human didn't need tools to find gems down here when Kunzite was around. The familiar passed its gems over to the human once he was no longer distracted. The the familiar would be free to going back to looking for gems, the only calling that really mattered down here. It did keep a few shiny things with it, despite passing over most of what it had collected. Not need to give the human all of its treasures. Just in case.
He wasn't quite sure what to do with the ore, but the gems he could probably trade in for money. Probably the ore, too. He wasn't sure what else to do with it.
Equipment stowed away and light set back up, Kadin turned his attention back to his houluh. Well, now that Lux was pretty good at jumping up onto a rock, Kadin figured it wouldn't hurt to teach him something else. The puppy was clumsy and while that was endearing, it could get him into trouble if he ever crossed the wrong creature. So Kadin figured it'd be best to teach him how to defend himself. Er. Eventually. He probably wouldn't rush into that kinda training.

The human could be trusted a certain amount, but no good familiar passed over its entire hoard. Not unless it was stupid. Kunzite was not and knew how to keep its most precious stones close. It slinked back through the shadows, heading over to where the rocks had fallen to see if there was anything worth picking over there. Usually loose rocks would dislodge something, even if it wasn't something valuable. One just had to be lucky.
Barring that, it might also be a good idea to teach him how to get out of the way of an attack to begin with.
So, Kadin went looking for some rocks. Kunzite was back on its search for gems so Kadin left it to it. Instead he was looking for other stones, just simple rocks that he could teach the puppy to dodge. This shouldn't be all that different from when he taught danger sense to the sarane. If anything, it would be an easier thing to teach since it was a command and Lux would be away he had to look out for something once Kadin said the word. Once he'd gathered enough rocks, Kadin walked over to the puppy to get him started.

Not that they had been particularly lucky when all those rocks had come crashing down. Not that that was through any fault of Kunzite. The familiar shifted through the rocks, looking for anything it might find valuable. There was mostly just stone. Dull and grey. Some with micah shot through it, but that wasn't valuable when broken up into rock. False glitters off the fake light. Kunzite wished for more darkness. It was so much easier to find things in the darkness.
"Alright, I'm not going to hurt you, Lux, but you need to learn to be might light on your feet. This should be pretty easy so pay attention, ok? Dodge!" With that, Kadin tossed a rock lightly towards the puppy, aiming for its feet. He wasn't aiming to hit him, only get him to move a bit.
Lux shot straight up into the air. From the looks on their faces, neither of them had been expecting that. "Good, Lux!" Kadin said once he'd recovered, going over to the puppy to offer him a treat. "Good Dodge. That's a good pup." Alright, so maybe they weren't off to such a bad start. Lux just needed to be. Less jumpy? More directed jumps? ...yeah.

Kunzite explored the tunnels, disappointed that there really wasn't much to find here. They should go deeper, it felt. It would not be listened to. The human did not understand they way it spoke to him and the houluh would not want to go deeper to begin with. Deeper could be dangerous for their kinds, but Kunzite craved the things it could find in the deep, find in the dark. Much better than what it was finding now.
“Dodge!” Kadin tossed another small rock at Lux’s paws. The houluh jumped back this time, tripped over his paws, and landed on his back. “Uuuuh. Good job?” Kadin gave him a treat anyway because at least he TRIED to move away? Or something like that. He was beginning to have the feeling that Lux’s biggest hurtle with this trick was that he was just plain fucking clumsy.
“Dodge!” Kadin tossed another rock. Lux jumped out of the way and stumbled to the ground, off to the side of where the rock at clattered next to him. “Good job, Lux! Good Dodge!” Kadin offered him another treat for that, which he accepted with a slowly wagging tail. He didn’t like this new kind of training much.

Although, what was that? It could sense something. Kunzite slowly circled around the training area the human and the pup were standing in. There was something on the edge of its senses. What was it? It called to it. The human could sense it to, it could tell. He seemed distracted from the training. Not as into it as he had been in the past. There was something tickling at the edge of their awareness. Something it wanted.
He also wasn’t really moving until after the rock had touched down near him. With a frown, Kadin considered their options. Lux really needed to try dodging the rocks BEFORE they were about to hit him. With a sigh, he figured there was nothing else to do but practice.
“Dodge!” He tossed another rock at his feet, watching him yelp and dance away once more. Kadin offered him another treat and more praise for his fast footwork, but they still needed to work on the clumsiness.
“Dodge!” Lux jumped straight up into the air again. At least he managed to land on his feet. “Good boy! Good Dodge, Lux.” Kadin gave him another treat and a pat on the head for trying his best, even if his best was sort of fucking hilarious.

It went searching in the dark. It was something shining. It could tell, something that had a touch of magic to it, brightening up its gleam. It would be a prized treasure, something it would want, something it would keep, something the human would take. It would not want to give it to him but the human would likely be able to benefit from it more than it would, it could tell he had it in him.
“Dodge!” Lux skid to the side again, managing to keep to his feet this time, if only just. “Good job, Lux!” Kadin said, giving him a treat for his trouble and giving him a short rest, too. He was panting pretty hard and still didn’t seem to be having a great time with this training. Kadin could understand that. Having stuff thrown at you was a lot more heavy than just jumping up onto a rock. “You’re doing a great job, Lux, good pup. You’re improving a lot!” Kadin said nonsense to him, petting him until he calmed down and started to wag his tail again. “Good pup, good job.” One he seemed up to it, Kadin started again. They'd get this.

So Kunzite searched. Up and down the tunnels, it tried to narrow down where it was coming from. The light from the tools was too much, it hid the shadows and the magic it could sense coming off its treasure. But something that simple would not keep it confounded for long. It searched up and down, far and low, narrowing it down to the very place where the human had been searching for rocks not long ago.
“Dodge!” Lux jumped again, landing on his feet and not even stumbling this time! Kadin gave him a treat and plenty of pets for that. He still seemed to be waiting for the rock to clatter near him before dodging out of the way, though. He was being reactionary and not preventative. He needed to anticipate the rock if he was really going to dodge it, especially since the rocks weren’t even coming close to hitting him yet. Kadin tried again.
“Dodge!” He tossed the rock and Lux leapt out of the way, yipping with excitement. Kadin smiled at that. “Good boy, Lux, good job.” But they were still having the same problems, really. He needed to try something a bit new. Here goes.

Of course. He could sense it too. It only stood to reason that he would have been attracted to this area, although his eyes were too blind to see why. Kunzite searched the cracks and crevices where the stones had come from. It had to be... somewhere... there! A faint blue glow, behind a pile of yet more rocks that the human hadn't yet picked it. It was there, calling to it, and like a moth to a flame it was drawn to answer the call.
“Dodge!” This time, Kadin waited a moment before throwing the rock. Lux was standing there, head tilted when not rock came his way. Kadin lifted up his arm and Lux tensed, recognizing the motion. Kadin threw the rock and Lux didn’t move out of the way until it hit the ground still, but he did move. “Nice try, Lux.” Kadin gave him a treat anyway. “Let’s try again.”
“Dodge!” Kadin waited again. Lux tensed faster this time, recognizing what comes next. Kadin tossed the rock, aiming closer to Lux’s feet this time, and the houluh yelped a bit while he danced out of the way, dodging the rock that landed just shy of his feet.

Kunzite swept the crystal up in its shadows. The human would be able to sense it with it, but it would not give it up until it became overburdened, it was sure of this.
“Good! Good Lux, good Dodge!” They still had a little way to go though.
“Dodge!” Kadin waited, watching Lux, then gently, slowly tossed the rock straight at his paws. They clipped his tails a bit while he jumped out of the way, causing him to yelp, but Kadin checked him over while he was giving him a good rub down and a treat and there was no damage. He’d just been started. “Very good job this time Lux! Let’s keep it up and dodge it every time!”
Kadin continued with the same practice for a while longer, tossing the rock’s at Lux’s feet now. He kept them slow at first, but quickly picked up the pace. Some of them did hit Lux, but never hard enough to really hurt him, not if he was paying close enough attention. After a while, Kadin deemed them done. “Great job, Lux! You were so brave!” And that it was time to give Lux a much needed break from the more “scary” tricks.

Luckily the human was too concerned with more puppy matters to question Kunzite about its new prize. It stayed a little further away from the human after that, not wanting him to sense the magic it was harboring and claim it too soon. It wanted to brood on its find for a while, to nurture it, to enjoy the rippling sensation of magic through its shadows before it gave it up. Magic was a precious resource, one it would not part with any time soom.
That completed, Kadin needed to think about what to train Lux next. He figured something easy would be best, something similar to what he already knew. He had it! Kadin walked deeper into the mines, trusting the houluh to follow the light and his familiar to follow him. Eventually he came across a rock that would be just what he was looking for. One that was a bit smaller than the one they’d just used, but still large enough that Lux would have to jump over it.
Kadin walked over to the rock and showed Lux a treat. He held it over the rock, temping the puppy over. “Over, Lux!” He said, holding the treat past the rock.

Thankfully, the moved on. Kunzite was eager enough to go with the human when it was clear he was going deeper into the mines. Deeper meant more chances of magic and gems and ores, more of the things it wanted to keep and hoard. It kept its crystal safely tucked away as it followed the human and the dog. They kept going until they found... a rock. Not an interesting one.
Lux quickly ran around the rock to the other side so he could get to the treat!
Kadin narrowly avoided face palming.
“Come on, Lux. Jump over!” He said, holding the treat over the rock this time. Lux crouched back and jumped up nearly onto the rock, wagging his tail and assuming he’d done a job well done. Kadin shook his head and held the treat over the rock. “Over!” He repeated.
Lux tilted his head and whined. He wanted the treat! He jumped off the rock. Kadin said, “Good!” for that and gave him pats, but no treats! Lux whined some more about that!
“Jump over.” Kadin insisted, holding the treat above the rock and quickly moving it to the other side when Lux jumped up. Lux jumped down right away this time.

Of course it was a dull stone that the human sought out. The human was just like it, dull and unable to see the magic right under his nose! Not that Kunzite wanted him to take it just YET, but it wouldn't hurt to have some help seeking out items such as this. As the human and the pup settled more into learning this next useless trick that wouldn't find any more gems, Kunzite set off to search itself.
“Good, Lux! Good jump over!” It wasn’t quite correct, but Kadin still gave him a treat for it so he wouldn’t get discouraged. Lux wagged his tail happily, happy to have the treat and praise. Kadin went to try again.
“Jump over!” He insisted, holding the treat above the rock. Lux jumped up and down off the rock, following the treat while Kadin moved it back. “Good.” Kadin said, giving him the treat, and had it repeat it again, several more times. He supposed that it wouldn’t hurt to make sure that Lux had the motions for up and over before they got down to actually jumping right over the rock. He knew he could do it, he’d picked the right size rock.
