Kadin praised, giving her a treat for moving out of the way. It wasn’t much, but it was the start to the trick.
He continued the same thing with more rocks. He was less cautious about hitting a fully grown hen like Annona than he had been when he was teaching this to hatchlings. He kept tossed the rocks at her gently, stopping to praise her and give her treats when she avoided them successfully. That was probably the only thing keeping her from attacking him for the insult of hitting her person, to be honest.
Kadin continued this same routine until Annona had avoided ten rocks thrown at her tail in a row. Then he stopped to take a bit of a break.
Aconite let out a LOUD and MANLY yelp as he fell ass over wings onto his face. He quickly scrambled back to his feet and spun around to face the evil thing that had tripped him! But all that was there was… a tiny house? He sniffed at it. It didn’t SMELL dangerous. It just looked like it was a small house. It actually looked like a tiny version of the place where they were right now.

He patted her side and telling her about how well she had done.
Next would be a little more tricky for her. Her tail she had a pretty full range of motion over, but her wings had less range of motion. He started tossing pebbles slowly at them, next. He was more gentle this time, wanting to be sure he didn’t actually do any damage. She was more pissed off when he actually did hit her wings, but that gave her extra incentive to move out of the way. Just like before, whenever she dodged a pebble he’d stop to give her praise and treats. It took longer this time, but eventually she was able to dodge them all.
But he still didn’t trust it! He hissed at it, fiercely, to try and intimidate it after it had tripped him. That had been so RUDE. But the small house didn’t do anything about his anger. It was just there? Not doing anything. He grumped a bit and sat down, growling at it fiercely, but still. Nothing happened. Just when he was about to give up and walk away, a gust of wind suddenly blew a cape OVER the house and it ATTACKED him!

Once she’d dodged ten in a row, he let them take another quick break before moving on to the next part.
This time it was her legs. You’d think that the legs would be even easier to dodge with. The truth was that to move your legs? It involved shifting your entire body weight. They were what held you up, after all. So Kadin started with the easier bits to move around. He tossed rocks at Annona’s front legs, watching her hiss and sputter and complain whenever he hit her. He kept going, however, wanting to make sure she got this down. Every time she successfully dodged one, he stopped to give her a treat and praise.
With a squeal (a manly squeal) he fell right the hell over, back into his head, with a black cape covering most of his body. But mainly it was stuck on his head. He roared (squeaked some more) in defiance, struggling with all four limbs to try and escape from the evil clutches of… the cloak. After an embarrassingly long amount of time, he did manage to actually free himself. But that was when ANOTHER cloak whacked him in the face.

She was going to be fat by the end of this, but he didn’t really care.
Once she was able to dodge 10 rocks to her front legs successfully he moved on to her back legs. Those were what held most of a creature’s weight so it involved a lot more in order to move them out of the way. Still, Annona was getting used to the drill. She was picking up on this faster and faster. Once she dodged 10 rocks to her back legs (basically her rump) Kadin stopped to give her some extra praise and treats.
Now it was time for her body. This would be a little more tricky. She could successfully dodge withe plenty of parts of it.
He was on the ground. He was dead. He was never moving from this spot again. He had JUST freed himself from the OTHER cloak and now this BROWN one was wrapped around his face instead? The tiny drake struggled weakly, scared and exhausted and just plain. Done. With all of this. He didn’t like this place. He very much was not having a good time and would like to go home now. Someone please jot that down somewhere.

The question was, how would she do if she didn’t knew where the rock was aiming for?
Kadin started raining pebbles down on Annona. This time, she wasn’t able to successfully dodge each one as easily as before since she didn’t know where they were aiming to. She was getting more and more frustrated about it, but with her frustration came determination to get it right. Like before, Kadin kept giving her treats and praise every time she successfully dodged something. That gave her plenty of incentive to keep improving.
Kadin also wasn’t holding back anymore. Once she started to seem like she was getting it, he started throwing the rocks faster. She needed to be able to keep up.
Eventually, he was able to free himself from this new cloak. He looked around, sadly, and cheeped softly to himself, a comforting sound that he remembered his mother making while he was still in the egg and all he could do was cheep back. This time his mother did not answer his cries. Instead, a small creature in an orange mask and carrying a knife wandered up to him. This was it. This was how he was going to die.

She quickly had to adapt to different speeds to dodge the rocks at, hissing and grumbling about it the whole time. But still, she was determined. She knew what she had to do, Kadin had made it clear, and she was soon improving yet again. It still took longer than any one individual part of her body did, but once she had successfully dodged 10 rocks that had been chucked in her direction, Kadin was extremely pleased. He gave her plenty of praise for a job well done. Now there was only one step left!
Kadin walked on as if they were going back to searching for items. Annona was a bit suspicious, but soon her attention moved elsewhere. This was what he was waiting for.
A small thing that looked like a tiny human in an orange mask with a- was that a tail? Yeah. This small thing was going to get him with a knife and he was going to die. Wait. Hold on. Wait a moment. He was a DRAKE. This THING wasn’t going to kill him. He started struggling harder, kicking at the black and brown cloaks that had ended up wrapped around pretty much all of his limbs.

She had better things to do than to constantly watch a human, after all. But once she was distracted, Kadin threw and object right at her, bouncing off her and landing on the ground. She whipped around, growling, but she hadn’t seen where it had come from.
They continued like this for a while, Kadin acting as if nothing was going on, just to wait for Annona to get distracted, then throwing an object at her to dodge. At first? She was hit every time. But, slowly, she started to get a sense for it. Every time she successfully dodge something Kadin gave her praise and many treats (sort of as an apology, too). She was appeased mostly because of his offerings.
There was NO WAY he was going to let this be the end! He growled fiercely, showing off his teeth. This thing wasn’t going to get the best of him! He kicked and kicked at the robes, finally tearing at them with his teeth and claws, struggling and shredding the fabric until he was finally free! He stumbled to his feet and bared his teeth even more, looking around with wild eyes to see… Uh. Wait, where’d that thing go?

After a while, Annona was constantly on alert, developing a sense for when objects were coming her way. She was dodging more and more of the objects he threw her way, able to successfully sense that they were coming with more and more accuracy until they were hardly hitting her at all and only if he threw several in a row just to trip her up.
Just like before, Kadin waited until she could successfully dodge objects ten times in a row before deciding that this training was basically done. He gave Annona plenty of praise and treats for a job well done, pleased with her progress.
It was gone! He sniffed the air, but he didn’t even know what it smelled like, so that didn’t really help him. He got up to look around the small house thing to see if maybe it was hiding behind it, but he couldn’t find it there, either. Where the heck had that thing gone? How could it threaten his very life and then just… leave?? That was so unfair! He was going to kill it an eat it! He knew he could have done it but now it was GONE!

Well, they’d left and were back again. Kadin was sure that the mansion had missed them a lot. Hah. Sure. Anyway. By now, Annona had her dominance and Keto was chomping on the bit to start her own gauntlet run. She couldn’t project the message into his head like some of the drakes could, but he could feel her stare whenever he was in the sarane section of the kennels.
So here they were. Back at their bullshit. Kadin figured that it’d be easiest to start Keto off with rend, just to follow tradition. He walked into the mansion ground with a hatchling under one arm and a sarane sized scratching post being dragged behind himself. Keto seemed to really like this one in particular.
The human was carrying him around like he was just some lump! Aconite didn’t really appreciate this treatment, but the human wasn’t listening to him when he tried to make that understood. With a huff, he didn’t have much choice other than to accept it. He was here with another hen this time, once Aconite knew better. It was his half sister, Keto. She was pretty strong and she was an adult.

He could tell because she was following behind him, trying to scratch at it. Once she got a good claw hooked it, he gave up and dropped the damn thing, turning around to say, “Rend. Good, Keto!” and tossing her a piece of meat. Looks like they were getting started already.
Kadin put the hatchling down so that he could do his own thing while they got this work started. He watched Keto devour the meat and then go back to scratching at the board, seeming to take great pleasure in causing grooves in the wood. “Rend. Good, Keto! Good Rend!” Kadin praised her again at a particularly strong clawing motion, tossing her another piece of meat that she gobbled up greedily.
That made her dangerous. But they were siblings, so he was pretty sure she wouldn’t kill him. Still. They came from different mothers. When Kadin finally put him down, he slunk away a bit, not wanting to get in Keto’s way, even if she was distracting clawing at something. Aconite watched her for a little while and then looked at his own claws with a huff. They weren’t as long or as sharp as her’s.

Seemed like they wouldn’t have much trouble in her motivation, at least.
She started at him for a bit to see if any more meat was coming. When there wasn’t, she simply went back to tearing the board again. “Rend. Good rend!” Kadin praised and tossed her yet another piece of meat. She ate it quickly and then scratched at the board again, pointedly making eye contact while she did so. She wasn’t scratch hard, however, only really running her claws over it, so Kadin just stared back at her.
Keto hissed and turned back to the board, digging her claws in and ripping. “Rend! Good rend!” Kadin said quickly, tossing her some more meat.
One of these days he’d be bigger AND stronger than she was, but for now he didn’t have any of that going for him. So instead of sticking around and being shown just how much smaller he was then he, he started to go off to look for something else to do. It had been a little while since he’d last been here and the smells had changed a little. Not much, but a little bit. He could also hear things out there.

She ate that quickly, too, and stared at Kadin for a long while, perhaps judging him and his life choices. Or, at least, his choice to give her the meat now and not before. She snorted again.
She raked her claws down the board once more and then looked up at Kadin, staring at him as if he was supposed to do something now. Which, I guess, he did, since he said, “Rend! Good rend!” and gave her more meat. So, really, he was only encouraging this behavior. Bringing it upon himself and all that. They continued in much this same light, Keto clawing at the board and Kadin praising her if she did it on purpose and hard enough. Alright.
He was sure that he’d find interesting things if only he tried to look for them. So Aconite went to do just that. He started with weaving through the trees, trying to see what he could find in the leaves on the ground and everything else around here. There wasn’t much. A lot of leaves, sure, but there weren’t any of the weird things like he kept finding last time. That was, there wasn’t at first.

Once Keto seemed to be getting the idea down and was even starting to claw at it when he told her to, he decided it was time to try it out on some of the unfortunately trees in the area.
He grabbed the board away from Keto, earning a hiss in exchange, and propped it up against one of said trees. “Rend!” He said, pointing to the board. Keto snorted and, knowing the drill, reared up to draw her claws down it. “Good rend! Good Keto.” He praised, giving her treats for her trouble. Kadin repeated this a couple more times with the board against this tree, then another tree, then a couple more trees, too. They needed to keep practicing.
Soon he came across a tree that looked hollow on the inside. He sniffed around the base, poking his nose into the hole, to try and see what he could see. He couldn’t see with his nose, of course, and he couldn’t get his head in far enough to look! So he turned his head and looked into the holes with his eyes to see if he could find something that was. There wasn’t much in there.

Keto was used to going after and clawing up the board, but now it was time to move her on to some trees themselves.
“Rend!” Kadin said, pointing at a tree that didn’t have the board propped against it. Keto, of course, went to claw up the board. Kadin didn’t praise her for it this time, either, just watched her for a minute then pointed at the tree again. “Rend!” Eventually, after saying it a couple more times, she seemed to get it. She went over and clawed up the tree, the one he’d pointed to. Now time for more practice. Kadin pointed to another tree.
“Rend!” She was more quick to get it this time. And each time he pointed to another tree and told her to “rend” she was fast than the last time.
It was too dark to really see anything. But the longer he looked, the more he felt like something was… watching him back. He growled a bit, getting a little nervous. He scratched at the ground around the hollow, trying to see if he could see better by making the hole bigger. When he looked down this time, he COULD see something, but just barely. The light was reflecting off something… jars?
