After completing his first assignment from the quest board, Kadin decided that he might as well take another. That first one hadn't been too bad and he wanted to get more experience with easier assignments before moving on to something more difficult. He looked at the notice board, overrun with different paper, and shuffled through them slowly before he came to one that looked... probably like the simplest one available, actually. "Killing some buys, huh? What do you think, Lux? Can we handle that?" He smiled down at his houluh, grinning with the pup wagged its tail at him and yipped in excitement. Damn thing had no idea what he was saying, but it was still up to being encouraged by whatever he did say. "It's decided then." Kadin said with a nod, taking the noticed and going to look for the person who put it up. It was a pretty old one so he better check to see if it was still a problem. 1

After some asking around, Kadin eventually located the person who originally put up the flyer. Apparently they had been helped with their problem by a lot of volunteers and they'd all done good work, but the pests kept coming back. He had to be on the look out for big, fat grubs and worms that were eating up all the garden plants and leaving nothing for the gardener. It didn't seem like the most flashy of jobs, but it was still a job and Kadin agreed to take it on. He headed over to where the gardener said the grubs were the worst and figured he'd best get to work.
"Alright, Lux." He said firmly, all business. "We're looking out for grubs. They're eating the plants and we need to stop them. You think you can handle that?" The houluh stared at Kadin. Kadin stared back. Yeah, he didn't know why he thought the houluh would get that, either.

Anyway, the two of them wandered around the gardens, finding grubs and disposing of them as they went. Kadin started first on what looking like it was supposed to be a squash patch. The large, broad, leafy plants had been eaten back to vines. He could see some half chewed sad looking pumpkins off in one corner. This was obviously going to be a big job. He could see grubs crawling around here and there, but they were mostly green so they blent in well.
"Here we go." He said to no one in particular, putting on some garden gloves and grabbing a big jar to put the worms in. He tied Lux to his waist again so he'd have both hands free and he was trying not to look at the dog, for the most part. He wasn't sure how he would react to all the grubs and he didn't want to examine it too closely.

Lux watched with fascination as Kadin pulled big, squishy grubs from plants and put them in a jar. This was so interesting! He sniffed at the plants, too, wondering how he could play this game. There were some grubs! He sniffed those, too, to see what they smelled like and to wonder what they tasted like. Hmm. He quickly snapped up a grub in his mouth and, tail wagging brought it over to Kadin. Look what he had!
Kadin looked over when Lux started pawing at him, frowning until he saw the grub in Lux's mouth.
"Lux.... no...." Kadin said with growing horror. When he went to take the grub, Lux backed away, growling playfully. "Shit. Lux! Stop!" Kadin didn't know if he could ever look at his houluh again if he ate the grub. The houluh had not been trained. The houluh ate the grub so Kadin couldn't take it away from him. Fuck.

Yeah. Kadin didn't pay attention to Lux at all after that. If the houluh wanted to go around eating grubs, more power to him. It was fine, as long as Kadin couldn't see it. Instead, he focused on his own work, removing as many grubs as possible from the veggie patch. Lux "helping." After a long day in the sun, Kadin had five full jars of grubs and no idea what the fuck to do with them. So, for lack of anything better to do, he packaged them up and went to go find the farmer. They weren't too far away, this being their property and all. Kadin described to them all he'd done that day and showed them the proof. They shrieked and demanded to know why he didn't just kill all the grubs. Kadin frowned, looking into the glass jar, and just shrugged. Maybe Rochelle would want them for the cafe?
