What in the world had she been thinking when she had decided to buy a sarane of all things? Sevyrn had never worked with sarane before, nor felt a need to fight - and yet here she was with this handsome pale blue and brown drake whelp that had someone stolen her heart. What in the ever loving fuck was she supposed to do with him? A whole lot of nothing? It wasn't like she ever even wanted to be part of the fighting pit - she'd tried once years ago with Bez but then she had seen him hurt at the end of it and... that was that. That was the beginning and the end of Sevyrn's time in the pit, with no intentions of ever coming back. So what in the world had posessed her to obtain a creature pretty much bred to be thrown in the pit against other fighters?

Sevyrn didn't know much about the little guy - he was a cross between a white and a regular brown, second tier. His mom had a fire injection so he would likely grow up to know at least one or two fire-based moves, a strange combination that just didn't seem to suit the soft, light look that reminded Sevyrn of a winter snowstorm - that was part of where she had gotten the name that she had decided to give him - Snow. For now he was a playful, curious little thing like most babies seemed to, trying to gnaw at Sevyrn's arm as she carried him down towards the park. She didn't know what exactly they were going to do today, but she did know that she wished to work with him now while he was still young... he needed to already like her before he grew in to a powerful, wild-eyed adult.

Sevyrn settled in to a small area, open field cut off by tall bushes on three (and a half) sides - the perfect place to settle in to with a young one, or a creature that wasn't too big. It would be the perfect place to hang out with Snow for a bit. The first thing that she did was put the sarane down, and Snow immediately began to check out his surroundings - even started to run towards the other side of the area. Sevyrn kept a close eye on him while she settled in herself, shrugging her backpack off of her shoulders. She had a bunch of snacks and toys with her, hoping that they would be able to have a good time hanging out with each other... they probably wouldn't get much done, but it was only day one - Sevyrn wanted the hatchling to have at least a little trust in her before they started to work together.

"Snow!" Sevyrn called to the hatchling, clueless to the fact that he was being called - he had never heard that name before, didn't recognize the inflection in Sevyrn's voice... in fact, he still questioned who she was in the first place, this wasn't home. This wasn't the kennel that he had been born and raised in - where was his mother? His father? This was a strange new world beyond the small home that he had known for his entire life, with strange people and strange creatures. He wasn't sure that he wanted to go back towards Sevyrn at all - one day he had never seen her before in his life, and the next she had been taking him away from the only home that he had ever known... Who was she to think that she could do such a thing to him? He just wanted his mama back, she was the only thing that he had ever really known.

From his spot at the back of the area, Snow concocted a plan - he could see his way out across the small field, he just had to sneak past the person that he didn't know. From there it would be time to find home - his real home, not this woman and her strange face and strange creatures and strange home. Would he be able to find his way back? Snow did not know his way back, but he had the confidence of the naive to think that he would be able to get back to his mom if he was able to get out of this woman's sight. She was busy digging through her backpack so she wasn't looking - this was his chance. The young sarane started running as fast as he could, trying to get past the bushes. Freedom was in sight - he was going to be able to get out of here.

Freedom! It was in sight, so close that Snow could taste it - his little feet flew under him, and he managed to cross past the bushes. He had gotten free, and the strange woman hadn't even noticed! The drake hatchling stopped in his tracks, proud of himself for his own victory - he needed a moment to be real damn proud of himself right about now.
... Too bad stopping had been a mistake. He hadn't seen anything, hadn't heard anything, and he knew that Sevyrn hadn't seen him - or so he thought. Suddenly he was swooped up off of the ground and cried out in dismay. Snow's head swiveled around only for him to wind up face to face with the enemy - he had sworn that he had escaped from her! How had she managed to catch him?
Sevyrn shook her head at the sarane, and carried him back in to the little area.

The sarane was rather disgruntled when Sevyrn put him pack down, his feet clawing for the ground before he had even got near it. He squirmed within her grasp, and dashed back off as soon as her grasp lightened enough for him to slip out of her hold. Obviously he really did not want to be a part of this. Who did she think she was? She had come and taken him from his home, he wasn't about to be friendly with her in return. Did she think that he was crazy? No. She didn't deserve to have him around, as he had utterly no clue who she was.
"Snow." Sevyrn said softly, calling towards the sarane with a softness in her voice. She could imagine that he was rather scared with everything going on, his life had kind of just been turned upside down. Sevyrn simply needed to offer him patience and kindness.

Sevyrn didn't envy the young one, who must have felt like he was stolen from the only home that he had known. It took plenty of gentle coaxing for her to be able to get him to even start moving close to her - now that he was in an open space he was harder to get a hold of then he had been in the kennel, and with an open route of escape she had to be careful not to startle him... especially now that she knew he would try to make his way out of here if given the chance. She'd noticed him as he had ran by earlier, of course - he didn't seem to realize it because had been too lost in feeling like he had won to pay attention to the soft footsteps appraching from behind.
It was okay, she understood. She just wished to be able to soothe his fears.

"You're going to have such a good life with me," Sevyrn whispered as the drake finally - cautiously - came up to her, with tentative steps and even more tentative sniffs of her extended arm. One little sniff and he had backed away from her, too nervous and afraid to see her as person who would bring him any good. Comfort would come with time - this wasn't one of the creatures who had happened about her in the garden or the mines, at least in their own habitat for a little while. This was a poor creature who had a home and didn't know what had happened to it.
"You want your mama?" Sevyrn asked him, a frown forming on her lips. "I wish that I could bring you to her, but I can't. Don't worry, I'll make sure that you're taken care of now little one. Nothing but the best for you."

He didn't want her... He just wanted to go home. Why wouldn't she let him go home?
There were so many questions he had about this confusing world that he was now a part of, and no way to have them answered. Maybe he would have to accept this stranger as part of his life, but how was he supposed to feel good about his kidnapper?
Oh - she had a treat. Snow watched as Sevyrn pulled out a little chunk of meat and held it towards him. His fear kept him from going straight in for it, but the smell of it... mmm. It didn't smell like it was off... Maybe he could at least take a bite of it and see if it was okay. If one bite didn't hurt him, then the rest of it probably wouldn't either... The sarane cautiously leaned in and took a smile bite from the steak chunk, and once it was swallowed went in for more.

"Hey Snow," Sevyrn said to whelp as he swallowed down his little snack - he absolutely loved it. Maybe this woman wasn't so bad after all? He still wanted his mama and his home back, but things could have been a lot worse right? She could have been mean... Snow still thought she was a mean lady for kidnapping him, but she was at least trying to care for him...
That didn't stop the hatchling from running off as soon as he was finished up with thst chunk of meat and had the opportunity to. Here Sevyrn was trying to start working with him and he was still being a tempermental young one. They could work together on teaching him some stuff once he felt a little bit more comfortable - Sevyrn was not about to rush him. She just wanted to know that she had his trust, which would understandably take time.

Maybe a bit of time and some more delicious snacks would help the little guy come around to Sevyrn? She wished that she at least had a sarane buddy for him to play with - she didn't really want a second sarane, but maybe it would be a good idea for her to stop by the labs and pick up a hen whelp for him to be friends with. At least then he would have someone of his own species around, and maybe feel a little bit more at home than he was with no one but Sevyrn around.
It was a good idea in theory - and it would have to be a hen, because Sevyrn didn't have it in her to handle not one but two little drakelings, especially as they grew in to unruly and angry full grown drakes. Maybe if she handled Snow growing well enough she might get another one some day, but not two at once as a beginner with the species.

Sevyrn simply sat with the little guy for a while, chatting and letting him come closer and run off as he saw fit. With time he started spending more time closer to her than off on his own, and slowly that 'closer' got nearer and nearer to where the girl sat. It was a slow process but he was warming up to her, and Sevyrn was happy to see that Snow might be getting a little bit more comfortable with her.
Maybe it was time to try training again? The least that they could get done today was teaching the little guy his name. "Hey Snow?" Sevyrn called to the whelp, who responding by lowering his head to the ground and raising his rear end like he was about to pounce at Sevyrn. That was... something? Not what she had been looking for, but something nonetheless. "Hey Snow, what's going on?"

He didn't seem to understand what the girl wanted from him, but with time Snow had come around to her presence and her voice just a little bit - she sounded like she was gentle so maybe she actually was? Or maybe that was all a trick... Snow was not sure yet - this was the woman who had taken him from his mother after all. Snow did not know what to think of Sevyrn at all.
Sevyrn kept talking to him, though. She hoped that through talking to him he would feel a little bit better about her, and she sprinkled the name 'Snow'in to almost every sentence... it was strange, not a natural way of talking, and yet one of the easiest ways to train a creature to respond to their given name. With time she would be able to dial it down, and hopefully by the end she would have his attention simply by saying his name.
... Winter was going to be interesting.

He wasn't a bad little creature, he was just skittish with the strange new person around him. Sevyrn didn't think less of him for being wary around her at all - she was just glad that he finally seemed to be warming up to her a little bit. With time they might end up being the best of friends - who knew? He would make a really good glorified guard dog if they did end up bonded closely, which would be some kind of purpose for his life. She still didn't know what had motivated her to go and buy a born and bred fighting animal, the more aggressive sex at that, but now she was going to have to work with it one way or another... she wasn't about to send this little guy to another new home.
He seemed to be getting better at responding to his name with time, cautiously leering forward towards Sevyrn when he heard the repeated word.
