Another day, another pachee breeding. This one would have to go pretty quickly- she had a meeting at her job today and didn’t realize that she had scheduled them both way too close to each other. At least they hadn’t been at the exact same time, leading her to have to cancel one or the other (not that she would cancel a business meeting for a pachee breeding... no matter how cute the babies were.) but really, why was it that work always came up when she wanted to do something fun? She hated working for a living- wouldn’t it be so much nicer if she could live like her pachee, having her food delivered to her hand and foot and occasionally being shoved in a room with a pretty boy? It sounded great now that she thought of it- but no, she had to earn money like some sort of loser. What a drag. She huffed and picked up the pace as she walked toward the breeding center, power walking far faster than usual to be sure to get there early. Hopefully they’d have her room ready when she arrived and they could just go right on in.

...Or not. When Fiera stepped in through the sliding doors of the breeding center, it was immediately clear that the place was packed. Did something happen? She could barely see past all of the people and pets, and the distinctive smell of animals was in the air. It took Fiera nearly a full minute to find where the line for the front desk was, let alone getting through it to check in. She huffed and puffed to herself, hoping that just the act of waiting wouldn’t make her late for her appointment. As if to emphasize that point, she checked her phone... to find that she was five minutes early. Well, hopefully that would be enough. She put her phone away and stacked her carriers on top of each other, getting ready to settle in for quite a wait. To pass the time, she glanced around at the decorations strung up around the room. It was the vai min mur season, and the breeding center was dressed up accordingly in harvest tones. To stay “kid friendly” however, the center mostly focused on the harvest side of vai min mur and not the spooky stuff- or maybe they did that for the association with new life?

Fiera couldn’t say she was much for it, to be honest. Why focus on the most boring aspect of the holiday? Who cared about squash and corn and whatnot? Those weren’t even her favorite vegetables. She had to admit the paper cutouts of orbaru dressed up like candy corn bats were pretty cute though, and the garlands of pteropty pictures were charming as well. But still, it seemed like a very half-assed attempt at vai min mur cheer for the sake of the sensitive minded. At least the line seemed to be moving forward steadily however, and Fiera nudged her pet carriers forward to keep up with the crawling pace. It was better than nothing, that was for sure. At least her pachee weren’t causing trouble- she had had some truly rambunctious couples in the past, and it was never pleasant dealing with pachee who were trying their best to run away... from inside a box. Perhaps it was the pumpkin spice room freshener that filled the air keeping them calm, the scent of another plant reminding them of home. Or maybe they were just tired from the walk- Fiera didn’t mind either way, as long as they didn’t cause problems.

Not that she really expected these two to be trouble makers. Her female, Deep Deep Sleep (or “Deep” for short) was a pretty chill little lady. She had a smooth, languid personality, almost seductive... If that word was really something you could use to describe a half plant half animal critter that Fiera bred for fun. Regardless she always seemed to know more about her companions than she let on and enjoyed playing coy with them. Even if her flirting techniques were a little frustrating for her partners however, the results of her breedings were always worth it. She had bat wings, which were a rather rare addition to the pachee anatomy, inherited from her mother, and her bright red accents came from her father, with the black and yellow markings being somewhere in between. Her offspring always seemed to work well with this color scheme, and Fiera hadn’t regretted a breeding she had been in yet. She was a beautiful creature and she knew it, which may have been part of the reason for her teasing personality. Still, Fiera had every confidence that this breeding would go just as well for her and produce just as many delightful offspring for Fiera’s collection of pachee.

The other male was Golden Gong, a custom pachee she had acquired recently. He was just as pretty as Deep Deep Sleep, if not moreso. His pelt was a deep navy blue with a scaly pattern on it, with each scale being rimmed with gold. His belly had snakelike scales that were a rich orange, a color shared by his leaves, which ruffle softly in his carrier. Golden horns sat atop his head, but those weren’t his only add on. The dragon like pachee was currently unique in this world in that he had a pair of long, dignified whiskers. More than anything Fiera was hoping that those would pass down in this breeding, allowing her to spread them around throughout the pachee population. But that journey of many babies started with a single breeding. As for his personality, Gong was... a rather regal creature, but not stuck up as many of her other “royal” pachee were. Instead it was as if he saw something beyond all this and was a great deal wiser than his kin. With any luck that meant that he wouldn’t give in as easily tk Deep’s teasing and would be able to finish up the breeding rather quickly.

After reminiscing about her pachee for a while however, Fiera found herself quite nearly at the front of the line. The only one ahead of her was a frail looking fox mammalian who took FOREVER to get her ID out of her pocket. “Come on, lady...” Fiera thought to herself. “Being old doesn’t give you a free pass on being slow! Some of us have things to do!” She quite nearly hissed that last part out loud but finally, finally the woman was given her receipt, allowing her to hobble off with her houluh in tow. Fiera sighed with relief and practically sprinted up to the front desk, dragging her carriers behind her. “Hello there!” She said, speeding past the pleasantries. “My name is Fiera Ferella and I’m scheduled for a breeding with Deep Deep Sleep and Golden Gong, two pachee. I’ve prepaid for a room at 3:30.” She said. The receptionist blinked for a moment as Fiera’s shpiel sink in before turning to her computer. “Uh yes... we’re a little backed up on pachee rooms right now, so you’ll have to wait.” The other humanish said matter of factly, flicking a bat-like ear.

“What, like I haven’t already waited long enough?” Fiera said, her voice kicking up a few notches in volume. “Sorry ma’am, we’re very busy due to the holiday season. Take a ticket, you’ll have to wait.” The receptionist said, barely even paying attention to the humanish’s sudden outrage. Fiera huffed and puffed. “W- b- I paid! I have a reservation! I paid MONEY for my room! What if, what if I had other obligations?” She said, pressing a hand to her chest. “Then we’ll comp you for the time and you can reschedule. Next!” The receptionist called with a practiced gesture, and Fiera found herself unceremoniously shoved out of line by one of the other dozens of people in it. “Why, why I never!” She hissed, but... she still snatched up her number and went to sit down. Most of the chairs were taken, but she found one that was filled with two orbaru carriers that had been left unattended for a moment. Fiera glanced left and right before snatching them up and setting them down on the floor by the next chair over before settling herself in it, setting her own carriers in front of her.

Within a few minutes, an uthag with ribbons in her hair wandered back over to the seat and blinked. “Uh...” she said in a voice a lot smaller and quieter than Fiera was expecting. Fiera pretended to half not notice, but looked up as the uthag kept talking. “Did you... move my carriers?” She said, gesturing to the moved orbaru. “No.” Fiera lied. “They were like that when I got here, dear.” She said, before going back to her phone as the other woman stammered in an attempt to find a way to ask Fiera to vacate her seat. The humanish wasn’t about to offer to budge though, so in a couple moments the uthag sighed, picked up her orbaru, and tried to find another seat that could fit her. Fiera smiles behind her phone and crossed her legs. Another problem, solved. She didn’t get to keep her seat for long though, as a bell rang at the front. “Number thirty six! Your room is up, please report to room eight! Number thirty six!” Fiera checked the number she had been given. Sure enough, it was thirty six. “That’s our cue, kids.” She said to her pachee, picking up the carriers.

The walk to the breeding room was uneventful. Despite the business, the hall was clean and bright. Fiera was able to find room eight with no trouble at all, and she pushed open the door to find a room filled with the now familiar scent of fresh soil. She set the carriers down for a moment, mulling over the fake plants and wood chips that made up the floor of the breeding room. Finally, she found a wide, flat rock. That would do. The humanish sorted around in her purse for a moment, looking for the breeding berries she had packed. A moment later she had found them, and she grinned with satisfaction as she pulled them from the bag. One blue, one orange, and one pink. Perfect. She arranged them neatly on the stone and then fetched Deep Deep Sleep’s carrier. She released the pachee right in front of the berries, letting her get her bearings. Deep didn’t need long though and soon she was mashing up the berries, absorbing their sweet juices through the roots on her feet. Perfect. With her female pachee occupied, Fiera walked back to get her male and release him from his carrier as well.

Golden Gong took his sweet time getting out, but soon Fiera was able to shut the carrier behind him. Finally, they could get this show on the road. Deep started out with her usual tricks once she was done with the berries, winding around him and flicking her tail gently. She might as well have been trying to seduce a rock though, for all of the effect it had on Gong. She tried even harder, pawing at him gently, rolling over, even swatting at an ear, but the male took it all in with the same sense of passive calm. Eventually Deep seemed to get frustrated and went and sat by the rock again huffily. It was only then that Golden Gong got up and walked over to her slowly before sitting beside her. Then he began beating his tail on the ground, slowly and rhythmically. Pollen floated into the air and Deep finally breathed a sigh of reluctance, opening the slit on her head. It looked like he had won, and he didn’t have to do anything! Fiera sat back and relaxed as the pollen floated. It went well, all things considered, and hopefully she would have some pretty babies soon.
