Not having much else to do today, Kadin decided to pay a visit to the questing board. With him was his newest addition, just picked up from the Adoption Agency that same day. A young houluh, bundled up and carried in his arms, sleepy from all the excitement of being adopted. He was thinking about calling her Cookie. Anyway! Quests. He stared at the questing board, considering his options. There were still a lot of notices up there that he hadn't completed just yet, but one in particular stood out to him in this moment. It looked old and as if many people had looked it over before, but he figured it wouldn't hurt to check it out. "A Lamadidron who needs to be taught some manners, huh?" He mused, looking down to the black and tan bundle in his arms. "Well, as long as it's not too rowdy, we can handle it, right?" With a shrug, Kadin went off to go find the owner of the notice. He found him without much trouble, staring at him while he dragged out a mangled couch from his house, the lamadidron still hanging off of it by its.... teeth? Beak? Well. This was a new one.

"Um, excuse me, sir. I'm here to help train your pet. You... do still need help, right?" Kadin said, staring at the obvious answer right in the face, half wondering if it wasn't too late to back out of this one.
"Oh! Yes! Thank you for coming!"
Crap. Now it was definitely too late.
The owner rushed up to him, shaking his hand vigorously for much longer than necessary while he babbled about his woes. "As you can see, he just has no manners! No manners at all! Please please PLEASE teach him not to bite on things anymore! Oh! And how to defend himself, of course, just like I said in the noticed!"
"Right." Kadin said, extracting his hand and wrapping him arms back around the groggy puppy who was starting to whine and wake up. "I'll do just that, sir. You can get going, we'll be busy here for a little while." Luckily, the owner seemed to take the dismissal for what it was. He scurried off and Kadin turned to face the lama that he would have to be training. But, first things first. He took Cookie over and put her carefully in a shady areas under a tree.

Hopefully she'd sleep off the rest of her nap there and not get in the way of this training. THEN he turned to face the lama properly, eyeing the creature and wondering where to even start. The lama went to go bite the couch. "Ah! No!" Kadin left forward, looking around for something else it could get its oral fixation out on. He didn't really want to punish it for chewing, surely offering an alternative would be a better option. Kadin found a large stick and stuck it in the lama's mouth just as it was going for the couch again. "No. No bites on the couch. If you want to chew something, chew on a stick instead." He instructed firmly. The lama stared at him. Kadin sighed.
He also had to teach it how to hit stuff with its tail, didn't he? Best focus on one thing at a time. Kadin sat down on the porch, watching his pup sleep under the tree. He heard some shuffling behind him and saw the lama going for the couch again, stick abandoned. Kadin grabbed the stick and put it between the creature and the couch again, firmly saying, "No. No bites. We're not chewing on the couch."

The lama huffed at him. It waved its tail slowly back and forth in the air behind it, as if it was considering using it. With a grunt, it seemed to give up on that idea and waddled down off the porch, going over to the tree where Cookie was still napping. Kadin followed after it, mostly to supervise, stick still in hand. He vaguely wondered if he could teach tail strike by using that tree, but dismissed it as a bad idea. If they ended up knocking it over the home owner would probably be pretty pissed off. Kadin knew that he would be. Instead, he wandered around the yard to collect more sturdy branches. Finding plenty of fallen sticks and even some old two by fours over by a garden shed, he went about setting them up in the yard. Satisfied by his work, he patted the lama's side and called it over. It stared at the sticks sticking out from the ground with no real expression, clearly lost as to what this was all for anyway. Predictably, it tried to bite one of them. "Ah!" Kadin said, shooing it away. "No bites! If you want to get one of these you need to knock it over."

The lama huffed at Kadin's interference with whatever it thought it was going to do to those stick, thumping its tail against the ground angrily. Its attitude soon changed when Kadin suddenly said, "Yes, good! Good tail strike!" And offered it a gem treat. Cautiously, the lama accepted the offering, although it wasn't sure what it was for just yet. Kadin just stood back and waited to see what'd happen next. The lama was also waiting to see what would happen next. The puppy yawned and blinked open its eyes, looking around in confusion.
Kadin was the first one to get impatient. He went over and grabbed a stick from the ground, walked around, and tapped at the lama's tail with it. "Tail strike!" He said, as if that meant anything to the lama yet. The lama waved its tail back and forth, unsure what all this attention was about. Kadin positioned the stick so that the lama would tap it with its tail. "Good! Good tail strike!" He said, offering the lama another treat. The lama was extremely confused by all of this. It kept getting treats for something to do with its tail? It waved its tail back and forth a bit more.

The houluh puppy whined when it realized no one was around, not even the nice human who took it away from the kennels! It looked to see what they were all doing and saw a bunch of sticks sticking out of the ground. Not knowing anything else a puppy was supposed to do with this information, it crawled up onto its feet and toddled over to the stick.
It's tail just so happened to hit one of the other sticks that it was standing next to. Both the lama and Kadin were surprised by this development. Kadin seemed to be the one to recover first. "Good!" He said, although he sounded surprised. "Good tail strike!"
He offered the lama another treat. The lama accepted the treat since, you know, it WAS a treat. It still wasn't sure what the treats were for, but it was starting to get a clue. It waved its tail around some more, hopeful for more treats. The human seemed pretty unimpressed, though. He didn't say anything at all while he was waving his tail around. Not even when he swept it skillfully over his head! The lama huffed, unsure what the human was looking for with all this.

It got its little sharp puppy teeth around said stick and started to chew. The human was busy but now it was busy, too! There were all these lovely sticks around and it wanted to chew on ALL of them. But first it would need to get this one out of the ground. It was hard to chew on a stick while it was sticking up like this. It tugged and tugged at it, trying to pull it out of the ground so it could chew on it better.
Finally, by chance, the lama struck one of the sticks again. It looked on in surprise when the stick fell over, also noticed that way further down the line of sticks there was a puppy chewing on one of them. It was quickly distracted from that revelation by the human. "Good! Good tail strike!" He said, giving the lama more treats. Oh. It could get used to this!
Seeking more treats, it started to wave its tail around again. It would figure this out for sure! "Tail strike!" The human said suddenly, right before it's tail hit another of the sticks. "Good! Good tail strike!" The human said quickly, giving him more treats.

But it was just so small! It wasn't big enough to pull up a large stick like this one. The puppy whined and struggled and whimpered, but it couldn't get the stick up at all! Eventually it sat down on it s rump in a huff, whimpering to itself and all its rotten luck at finding such a nice stick, but not being able to chew on it. It made some more small whimpering noises to itself.
Suddenly this was started to make more sense. The lama waved its tail a bit more. "Tail strike!" the human said, right when its tail made contact with another stick. It got is treats and even a pat on the head this time, which it tolerated for the sake of treats. It started waving its tail around even more!
"Tail strike!" And knocking down more sticks in the process! The lama was very pleased by all the treats it was getting. It munched on them happily when the human said, "Tail strike!" again.
Oh? A chance for more treats? The lama looked around and knocked over yet another stick. They were getting pretty close to that puppy, but it was distracted again with another treat.

"Tail strike!" The human kept having the lama repeat the attack on more and more sticks. It was getting pretty good at knocking them down and sending them flying. It would hit them right out of the grass! Ha! And it kept getting treats for it! This was so easy!
But they kept getting closer and closer to the puppy. Eventually, they were so close that the stick the puppy was standing by was the only stick left. The lama waved its tail back and forth, considering. But instead of hitting the stick or pup with its tail, it leaned forward with its beak to-
CLACK
The human shoved the lama's head out of the way right before it could get a good bite in on the puppy. "No bites." He said firmly, almost a growl.
All of a sudden, the puppy started making little howls of sadness. Then LOUDER howls. It was really working itself up into quite the state, so upset that it wasn't able to chew on the stick! Wasn't there anyone around to take care of it and make sure it was alright? All of a sudden the puppy heard a large CLACK noise right by it ear. With a yelp it jumped to its feet to run, just to be scooped up by its human.

It was a bit scary, to be honest. The lama shrank back a step as the human advanced on it, somehow looking intimidating with a tiny puppy protectively bundled in his arms. "No bites." He reaffirmed, picking up a stick and pointing it at the lama.
The lama clacked its beak in the direction of the stick, annoyed. It went to take a chunk out of it, but the human hit it square on the nose instead. "No bites." He said again with a fire in his eyes that had the lama backing up a step again. The human stared at his, still angry, as if waiting for something. Then it stuck the stick in the ground and pointed at it. "Tail strike."
Oh! Treats! It could do THAT.
Oh. This wasn't so bad. The puppy snuggled into its human's chest, decided that it might be time for another nap. It was so exhausting to be a puppy and it had had a big adventure today with finding the stick and all of that. It let the rumbling of its human's voice lull it back into sleep. It would probably wake up in a few minutes to give the human hell, but for now it would just rest.
