The spark of life came back into the scientist as it seemed she may be able to sell someone else. Oh boy. "There's a comet on the way tonight - it's a once in a lifetime chance! It only passes close enough to observe once every two-hundred years. We could really use a hand setting up the equipment, just outside of town."[/b]"...Oh,"[/b] was about all Leth found herself capable of responding. She looked briefly to the tug of Mavelle's head - she was just giving a gentle nod while the little girl braided her forelock - before being able to meaningfully respond. "I mean -" lest she sound like a complete disinterested asshole, "stargazin' is always great an' all, but I'mafraid I might not be the kinda' person y' lookin' for. Haven't ever read an' astronomy book in m'life!" Hasn't read a book in her whole life, but that didn't make the first part untrue, either. Sarma lv|3 ly|3 15

"I meant - the sarane, actually." The scientist was trying to be as polite as she could about it, but Lethallia had to admit it was something of a relief to know that she hadn't mistakenly been approached in expectation she could help set up a telescope or something. "My entire team and I need guards for the night, so nothing - or nobody - can disturb us. You know. It's dangerous! All the way-" she gestured wildly in the direction of past the mountains, "out there."Lethalia bit her tongue, if only to quell her blooming smile. City folk. She'd never lived in the city proper, and doubted she ever would. It was charming that these folks seemed to think they needed protection practically in her back yard; perhaps those who felt they were in danger 'out there' might actually need it. "Yeah and-" a little voice interjected loudly, "the Society said I could go if we have enough guards!! Please, please?"16

"It's not polite to beg someone to do something like that, Lumen," the scientist sighed. "I'm sorry." The girl's apology was a tiny echo alongside her mother's voice. The damage had already been done though, because how heartless would Leth have to be to ignore a request like that? "If it ain't got me settin' up anythin' we could break, I think I got a big oaf that coul' come an' help out," she told them, even if she was bone-tired at this point. It was what she set out to do today anyway, wasn't it? "Oh - great!" the scientist blurted, as if she hadn't expected anything like an affirmative. They'd probably gotten quite a lot of it, if she'd been out here all day. Before Lethalia even knew it, the woman was procuring a map for her. "You're really too kind! We were just about to leave - do you think you could be here before seven tonight?"17

"Y' pass righ' by m'house. Thinkin' I'll be able'ta make it," Lethalia told her, finding it a little bit cute when the scientist looked aghast for a moment. Someone would live - out here? "An' -what're y'names, again?"Lethalia could've sworn she even heard a little bit of a curse under the scientist's breath before the woman cleared her throat, distracted wholly from the horrific thought of country living. "I'm so sorry, I don't know how could I be so rude! I'm Ada, and this is Lumen.""Nice t'meet ya' both," the satyr nodded, looking down at her feet where Mavelle's head had drooped. Having fallen good and asleep over the course of their discussion, the mare's puffy mane was tamed into braids of varying sizes, sticking out from one way or another. "Uh, g'job, Lumen. I can' even braid like that, kid." Mavelle was a straight-up saint at times; at least she wasn't always a complete neurotic. 18

... Though she waited until the pair were out of view, she took mercy on Mavelle and picked the braids out as they made their way home. Sarma did her more service than she would ever know, waiting until they were halfway home to awaken and start wailing once again. This time though, she was quickly quieted with morsels of meat-treats. Maybe today wasn't an entire wash after all! It was close enough to home she even had time to stop and eat something herself before gathering up Stark and his granddaughter. Sarma was growing accustomed to her - or maybe she was just groggy from their long day. Regardless, she didn't hear a single angry peep after she gingerly placed the hen in her backpack with a blanket stuffed on the bottom. It was progress, whatever the source. She wouldn't normally have brought a hatchling to something like this, but if she wasn't going with her 'unicorn', she might as well show up with a baby 'dragon'. 19

Ada and Lumen quickly found her once she found the crest they were meeting on. Leth was pleased she brought Stark; though dominant, he was tolerant enough with her steering him at his side to pay the other guard sarane no mind. She never would've trusted Vidarr in the same situation, if she was being completely honest with herself. "That's the baby's grandpa?! Lumen demanded, hands on her hips. "He's big - but he's just a brown!""Lumen, don't be rude!""Her mamma is jus' a brown, too," Lethalia told her conspiratorially, and Lumen gasped and clapped her hands over her mouth. "Really?!""Y'bet! Th' browns are pretty neat if'y ask me, they make all sorts'a colors!" Lumen seemed overjoyed at the prospect of being let in on a secret, and latched onto every word. "Feel 'im - Stark's cold, and he's a lizard! Inn't that neat?"Ada caught Lethalia's eye over the girl's shoulder, and nodded a little. Leth watcher her turn around... and go tend to one of the many very scientific looking parts while Lumen prattled on about cold blooded creatures and something called 'water-bears' that could survive getting frozen. Maybe it shouldn't have taken her quite so long, but that moment she realized they'd been enlisted... solely for babysitting duty. Sarma lv|4 ly|4 20 -fin-
