'Let's go a party tonight," a young woman voiced as she sat across from Sevyrn at her kitchen table, wide grin on her face as she did so. "I saw an advertisement for one down on the quest board - that would be fun, right? How long has it been since the last time you went out for something like that? Even longer since you and I have."
"I'm not sure, Quinn," Sevyrn replied as she avoided the other woman's gaze, knowing full well that she just didn't feel like going to any kind of party right now. Vai Mun Mur spirit just didn't seem to be her thing this year, as much as it should have been. It was about celebrating the dead, right? Sevyrn should have appreciated the fuck out of it, but somehow it just seemed... way too soon. She was in no way ready to 'celebrate' people dying right about now.

"I really don't want to do that Quinn," Sevyrn admitted to one of her closest friends, though it seemed that the other woman was riding on the idea of Sevyrn repenting eventually. "Where did you even hear about this party? What would we wear? I don't have anything for a party."
"It's a costume party Sev," Quinn emphasized, likely because she knew that Sevyrn had quote the collection of stuff that could be used in a costume... she had celebrated Vai Min Mur and gone to many costume parties in the last few years, after all - it was the one celebration that Sevyrn ever actually seemed to enjoy. "We both know that you like costume parties - hell, you might even be able to win a first place prize!"
She had done some pretty interesting get ups in the past few years, but this year she just... really wasn't feeling it.

"Maybe we could do something else this year, Q?" Sevyrn asked, still trying to find a way out of this. It wasn't going to happen, though - Quinn could be a persistent little fucker when she wanted to be and she almost always wanted to me.
"Come on!"
"Where did you even find this party, anyways?" Sevyrn asked, expression quizzical. Quinn scratched at the back of her neck.
"Down on the quest board! Come on, it sounds like fun! I really want to go, and I really want to have you with me."
Sevyrn let out a heavy sigh. "Okay... well, where is it then?" She relented, figuring that Quinn definitely wasn't giving in this time.
"I don't remember, actually..." Quinn was rather hesitant to admit that. "We could go check it out, though! The address was on the posted flyer, it'll be easy peasy to find and you have a better memory than me."

Sevyrn already had a bad feeling about this party, but with no way to back out of it... Well, she had to get her ass moving down to the quest board to see where in the world they were going to be going tonight. It wasn't the worst walk in the world, Sevyrn lived fairly close by, but it wasn't an adventure that she wanted to be making so the trip trudged along. Quinn seemed thrilled, though, as if she hadn't coerced Sev in to attending alongside her.
Along the way the pair talked, mainly about how losing Ryden just a couple months back had her out of the Vai Min Mur spirit this year. Quinn felt bad about pushing Sev yo go at that point and gave her an out - if she didn't want to go, then she didn't have to.
Well... who knew? Maybe the party wouldn't be the world's worst thing.

"Well... let's go see where this party even is, and then we can get ready," Sevyrn relented, and a wide grin burst across Quinn's face. They were going to the party! She may as well have ripped Sevyrn straight out of her chair and out the door with how fast the much more excitable of the pair wanted to move. Sevyrn sighed as they got out the door and she stopped to lock the entrance behind her. After that they were on their way down towards the center of town, where they would be able to find this advertisement on the quest board.
Sevyrn wouldn't admit it, she had already tried to talk her way out of this situation after all, but she really hoped that for one reason or another the flier would be missing and she would have another excuse to back out - but Quinn, we have no idea where to even go!

The quest board was filled with vai min mur themed decorum - fake skeletons and bones strung together to frame it, construction paper scenes and cutouts. It was... incredibly cliche, but in that enjoyable kind of way - Sevyrn wished that she could appreciate it the way that she would have any other year.
Quinn dashed ahead of her as soon as it was in sight - flitting through the abundant papers tacked to the board with wild abandon as she sought out the flyer that they had come for. By the time that Sevyrn had made her way over Quinn had already found it, and dramatically shoved the invitation towards Sevyrn's face.
"Right here - I got it!" She said to the much less enthused of the pair, grinning from cheek to cheek. Well... it seemed that it was going to be time to pick out a costume. What were they going to wear?

"Alrighr, let's head back home then." Sevyrn turned away as Quinn shoved one of the fliers in to her pocket. She girl ambled along beside her with both hands tucked in to her jacket, never done grinning. She seemed to be so damn pleased with herself.
"Why don't we go back to my place?" Quinn suggested as an alternative after a little while. "I've got a bunch of stuff back home we could probably use."
Sevyrn didn't care too much where they ended up going next, and shrugged it off. If Quinn wanted to go back to her place then so be it - she was the one who wanted this adventure so much, Sev could have lived without it and still wished that she hadn't been talked in to it.
"Yeah, sure," she agreed. It was still a little ways before they reached the turn for Quinn's place anyways. "What are you dressing up as anyways?"

"I dunno yet..." Quinn admitted, and seemed to go deep in thought for a moment. "What about you? We could match!"
"I'm going to stay in these clothes and go as a depressed queer," Sevyrn said in a dry tone, which caught Quinn off guard. The look of sheer surprise in the redhead's expression made Sevyrn laugh. "What? It's the perfect costume, and doesn't even need any effort!"
"Seeeev," Quinn whined. "Do you even want to go to this?"
"Quinn you pretty much forced my hand, of course I don't," Sevyrn returned, a blunt reminder that she most definitely did not sign up for this party willingly. The woman's puppy dog eyes got to her, though. "Okay, okay... I'll dress up as something."
"We could turn you in to a houlou pup!" Quinn offered with a smile, referencing Sevyrn's new found love of the canid species. It was a great idea!

A houlou, a malii, a mosca, even a ghaenelt... There were many creature based costume ideas that would suit Sevyrn in theory, and it would make Quinn happy. Sevyrn wouldn't mind settling for any of those ideas, they were relatively simple and easy to pull off. Dress up, go out for a few hours, maybe have a good night - and then worst case it would be over with in a little while. Life would go on and she would be just fine, as much as she didn't have the holiday spirit within her this year.
"Yeah - I'll be Jupi, you can pick another of my pups. We'll be matching houlou buddies." Okay, it was nice to joke a lite bit... Sevyrn needed to ease up on Quinn, she was just trying to be a source of positivity in Sevyrn's new doom and gloom lifestyle.
"No no no, Jupiter is the cutest - you take Sweetie's little boy."

Sevyrn couldn't even lie, she agreed that Jupiter was her cutest pup - but Sweetie's pup was pretty damn cute as well.
"No, you gotta choose another one," Sevyrn returned as the pair paused at a crossroads and veered right towards where Quinn's home would be.
"Okay.. you can have Jupiter, I'll figure out something else." Quinn shrugged her shoulders, and then spoke up again. "Or-" she started a new suggestion, emphasizing the option. "Why not dress up to look like a malii? I could help you figure out how to resemble Ramses a bit. It could be a nice little tribute to Ry. Plus he loved that kitten, he surely would have loved to see you dressed up in a slutty red and black cat suit."
"Haw haw." Quinn obviously thought that she had been a comedy genius with that last line, but it stung Sevyrn deeply to hear Quinn joke like that.

"What?" Quinn asked. "Did I go too far there? I'm sorry, Sev."
Maybe a more tasteful malii costume would work, though? It would be something pretty low maintenence - orange ears and horn in a head piece, a few black and red tails, black clothing, a bit of face makeup... it would be simple enough. She sure as fuck wasn't going to be a slutty malii for the party, though.
"It's okay. You meant well. I just... no." Sevyrn just really did not want Quinn making any jokes involving her dead fiance, let alone what kind of things might have got him going... Poor taste, Quinn - poor taste.
The other woman seemed to have realized that, cause that smile had disappeared off of her face to be replaced with something much more apologetic.
Eventually they did reach Quinn's front door, and at that point it was time to get all dressed up.

Quinn immediately ran off as soon as they were inside, dashing off to grab who even knew what - Sev didn't mind, she settled herself down at the living room couch, where Quinn's grown mosca was sleeping peacefully. He cracked a single eye open to look at her before closing it again, already familiar with who she was and therefore trusting that she was not a threat.
"So what were you going to go for?" Quinn chirped, her head poking past the corner of the doorway.
"Let's go with the malii makeup." Quinn's gaze turned questioning, she'd thought that was a no go. "Tastefully, Quinn. I'm not going to be a slutty version of Ryden's male malii. If he was at least a girl I might have considered it."
No. No, she absolutely would not have considered it for even a second. There wasn't a chance in hell she was going to disgrace Ramses and Ryden like that.

"What about another malii then?" Quinn inquired, lips pursed together. Sevyrn didn't understand this preoccupation at all.
"Quinn, you hate those kinds of costumes, what's going on?"
"You remember back when we were nineteen? You used to like that shit." Yeah... Sevyrn didn't want to be reminded about that. The woman lowered her head, and started playing with her hands. "... I just want to see you happy like you used to be. You used to love all this stuff before you got tied down."
"I don't want to act like before I was 'tied down' though, Quinn. It's been almost five years since then, even if Ry hadn't been around all that time I still wouldn't be the person I was as a teenager."
"... I know."
Quinn was just trying to be a good friend to her, and Sevyrn could see that. She just wished thst it could be so easy.

Sevyrn let out a sigh, and climbed from the couch- she guided Quinn back to the bedroom rather than the other way around. There was no point in mulling over what couldn't be undone, all they could do was move forward. They were supposed to be having fun tonight anyways, right? There wss no point in getting any more down....
There was a cat eared headband in the back of Quinn's closet, a remnant of Sevyrn's presence in their younger years as Quinn didn't need a headband to need cat ears. It was already black, it would just need something to brighten up the tips.
A tight-fitting long sleeved shirt, some leggings - Quinn suggested bleaching and then dying them to make them the right colors to suit Ramses' color palette. It was a fun little venture between friends that took the girls' attention away from the moment that they had earlier.

While they let the dye sit on the bleached parts of Sevyrn's cat girl outfit, the girls started to work towards finding something that would suit Quinn. It had always been oddly funny how the girl dressed up for a costume party - Quinn was the survivalist, adventuring type and her her costumes...? It was straight up girly, a look that would never be seen on her any other day.
At the end of everything, Quinn ended up wearing a sugar skull mask and a black thigh-length dress accented by red streaks that matched the vibrant color of her hair. Thigh-high stockings, thick-soled boots - she was truly dressed up. All that was lest was to wash the remnants of orange and red dye out of Sevyrn's much simpler get up snd then they would be good to go.
Once everyone was all dressed up, they bid adieu to the mosca still laying on the couch.
