Kadin kept digging around to see if he could find anything else like it. The red one was easy to find, but he couldn't find anything just like it right away. He kept searching, though, especially paying attention to the shapes of the leaves of the plants he was looking at. He figured that a plant like that would probably produce berries and any plants like that would look similar to each other if they produced similar looking berries. So he kept wandering around and looking and, eventually, his persistence was rewarded. Strangely enough, this time he didn't find another red one. This time, when his eyes caught and he looked under the leaf, it was something purple instead. He examined the heart shaped berry and even held it up to the other one and they did look very much the same, only the color was different. Shrugging to himself, he put it away and with the other, figuring that he could see what color was more common later with more searching.
With a sigh, Kadin bemoaned his own stupidity quietly to himself for a moment before nodding and conceding her points. "Yeah, you're right. I'll teach him how to used his berries."

He'd need to figure out what the move was called and how it worked, first, but Mori seemed satisfied enough by her win that she didn't point out any of the details, trusting that Kadin would likely figure it out for himself. He had, after all, been doing a lot of training, which he'd be able to tell anyone about. In great detail. Especially when it came to all of the fights his sarane had. Really, it seemed awfully exhausting to do all of that, she didn't quite see the point in it, but it got him out of the kennels.
So he continued the search. He looked under leaves, around bushes, keeping an eye out for any plants the he had recognized or looked at before and recognized as having had berries or fruit on them. This made it a lot easier to find things, especially since he was starting to recognize some of the plants. Finally. So when he brushed aside some leaves and found another berry, but it was a berry he hadn't seen before, he was a little confused. He had a right to be. It looked a lot like the heart berries, but also sort of like strawberries.

Kadin probably should have thought more ahead when he decided to adopt a thundergug. Sure, he liked the idea of having a big, strong creature like them around for protection. He even put in consideration as to whether or not he'd be able to handle one on top of all of his sarane and other pets. But what he hadn't really considered was how much they fucking eat. Which was why there were here, at the gardens. Today. Luckily, the thundergug hadn't seemed to be all that picky yet, so he figured that he could just set her loose and she'd be able to eat a bunch of the weeds around here. What he probably hadn't considered quite enough (are you sensing the pattern here?) was that she'd want to eat all of the useful plants that he didn't want eaten, too. With a sigh, Kadin tried to redirect Alba once again from a fruiting plant. They'd have a lot of work to do with this.
His current resident plant pet, on the other hand, mostly just seemed amused by what was happening. Cedar watched as the human attempted to reason with a thundergug with something like fascination. He was. Trying, I guess?

He didn't seem to be having an easy time of it. If anything, he was having a very hard time. Cedar considered that it was supposed to be taking care of the plants in the garden, but then it decided that this was more entertaining to watch. After all, the human seemed to self assured with pets most of the time, this was very different of him! What Kadin really wanted to do was to train Alba to, you know. Protect him and his pets. That would mostly involve learning some attacks and moves, which he didn't foresee as being a problem, since he had plenty of experience with working with sarane at this point. But sarane were a lot more... lightly boned then a thundergug. If a thundergug didn't want to go somewhere, it would NOT be moved. Kadin was quickly finding this out the hard way as he, predictably, tried to move Alba somewhere she did not go. Namely, away from some berry bushes and over to a patch of weeds he'd much rather she eat! He was going to have to go home and get more treats to use to direct her where he wanted her to be.

She was a food finding missile that would not be stopped and attacked whatever direction she was pointed in! Ah, and the thundergug was just ignoring him as it tried to find something to eat. Cedar almost approved. That was a pretty relatable feeling, no matter what kind of creature you were. He knew that he got that way when it had been dark for too long or he didn't get his daily dose of winter sunlight. It seemed pretty exhausting to have to move around and find your food all the time. No wonder creatures like thundergug were always hungry, they had to put off a lot of energy just to get some nutrients. Maybe he should have gone with something else instead. There'd been plenty of other cool creatures at the adoption agency! Some he didn't own, too! Some he'd never seen before! But he just had to want to try his hand at something big and bad like a thundergug. Kadin sighed to himself and watch as Alba did her best to eat a small tree. He believed in her. That bark didn't stand a chance. He'd really prefer if she went after the weeds and vines choking the tree instead.

But beggars couldn't be fucking choosers. Maybe if she had a little bit of training first she'd be easier to direct? He tried to consider what he might want to teach her first. She was really going to town on that tree. Bite? No. He didn't want to risk her biting and trying to eat whatever he ended up using as a target.
Cedar was thankful that it didn't have to do all of that just to get something to eat. If he wanted, he could just stay in the same place for days at a time and he'd be able to gather all of the energy he needed to survive. Sure, sometimes he had to move spots when the soil was used up, but that was no great hardship compared to all of the fanfare that these creatures needed to go through to get to their next meal. It wondering if it should start bringing over some fruit, just to help out that human that seemed to be quickly nearing his last nerve.
She was mostly good at just knocking shit over. What would be something good to train her that was knocking shit over? There must be something he could teach her.

Kadin leaned back on a tree Alba was not trying to eat and considered his options. He could always teach her to charge. That was something she was supposed to know naturally, too, so it shouldn't be too difficult. But it wasn't really an attack so much as it was an intimidation tactic. Maybe something more basic? A basic attack. Kadin watched as she shouldered against the tree, grunting as it looked like she was trying to knock it over. Hmm. There was an idea. He could teach her to knock things over for real, with her whole weight. Bash! That could be something to teach her. It was a strong move and would be good against pretty much any enemy, as long as she could catch them first. Not a bad idea, all told.
Cedar went around to look for some fruits and berries that might help discourage Alba from eating the rest of the tree. It was a good tree and didn't really deserve that fate. It was sure that it could convince her to go for something else as long as he found something tasty enough. So it looked around, trying to see what sort of food she might like to eat.

After a little break from the gardens, Kadin decided to come back later with a new plant creature. The king of the evergreen had been hard at work for a long time so he figured it was time for something else to pull their weight for a little while. This time he was here with a dragon oak, one that was actually an offspring that he’d arraigned the breeding for. He still didn’t know this dragon oak that well himself, but he figured that it wouldn’t hurt to get to know it better. Her? He? Huh. He wasn’t too sure about that one yet, either.
Also with him today was Alba. She seemed pretty typical for herself, which was to say that she was trying to eat literally everything in sight. She snorted at the dragon oak a bit, as if trying to determine if it could be eaten or not, but luckily seemed to come to the conclusion that it couldn’t be. So instead of worrying about it she went on to try to eat a bush or something. Kadin couldn’t tell. As long as she wasn't eating the plants that were actually useful it should be fine.

So here he was with a thungergug and an dragon oak. They didn’t seem to have much interest in each other, as a general rule. Alba was busy munching on literally anything she could get in her mouth while the dragon oak looked on dispassionately. Kadin couldn’t quite tell if she was unsure of herself and didn’t want to show it or if she was just watching Alba because there wasn’t much else to do here. He sat down next to the dragon oak and hummed to himself, getting her attention.
“We’ll need a name for you.” He commented. The dragon oak didn’t seem impressed by this, either. “I think your father’s name is Draco. You also look a lot like your mother, what with the stripes and everything. We could name you after another constellation, maybe one that has to do with hunters?” Kadin was musing all of this to himself. The dragon oak still didn’t look impressed, but it was looking at him instead of Alba and that probably counted for something. At least he wasn't being completely ignored, which had happened before and he did not appreciate when he was trying to work with a creature.

He wasn’t even sure if naming her after a hunter constellation made sense, but the stripes reminded him of big cats and big cats were amazing hunters. That made enough sense for him to go with it for now.
Alba munched her way through a bush and started up on some weeds growing at the base of a tree. Kadin watched her quietly for a little while, but he was pleased with her choice of meal this time. At least she wasn’t eating the tree. The weeds needed to go, anyway, so this was really a best-case scenario for all parties.
But the name. “There’s Orion.” Kadin suggested, looking over at the dragon oak to see her? his? reaction. It didn’t seem impressed, but it also didn’t seem disgusted by the name. “That’s a pretty male name.” Kadin commented. “It’d probably work best if you’re male. Not that it really matters, as long as you like the name. Guess we better figure that out.” He considered things for a bit longer before finally musing, “Meissa and Bellatrix are in that constellation. We could name you after one of those stars if you prefer a female name.”

Alba, at least, was utterly uninterested in the conversation going on right over there. She was too busy filling her stomach, which was a full time job all by itself! She did keep an ear flicked over, occasionally wondering what they were talking about despite herself, but for the most part she kept to herself. The weeds were tough to chew and required a lot of concentration so it was easier to ignore them if she wanted to.
The dragon oak still didn’t seem impressed by any of the suggestions, but it perked up a bit more when Kadin offered the other names. She perked up enough for him to pick up on it, at least. “Meissa? Bellatrix?” Kadin said, testing out each name to see if he got a positive reaction to either one. Hopefully she'd choose one of them and he wouldn't have to keep thinking of something and watch her be increasing unimpressed with him. The dragon oak tilted her head this way or that, as if listening to the words when he said them. He wasn't sure which one she seemed to like more just yet, but he felt like if he had her attention that counted for something.

Alba sniffed over a bit closer, following a trail of plant life away from the weed infested tree and over towards the human and the dragon oak. She hadn't been getting any attention which was FINE for her. She didn't WANT any anyway. But at the same time it was weird that they were ignoring her so much, wasn't it? She sniffed and snuffled, almost getting close enough to nudge at the human and dragon oak. She was still eating the entire time, of course, so no one could mistake this for actually wanting attention.
"Hmm." Kadin hummed, eyeing the dragon oak while it eyed him back. "Meissa?" He suggested. She tilted her head. "Bellatrix?" He tried again. She snorted. With a grin, Kadin tried one more time, "Meissa?" The dragon oak seemed to relax and blinked at him. "Alright, alright. Meissa it is. We'll go with that." He allowed, reaching out a hand to cautiously pat her side. She seemed to allow it, which he inwardly sighed with relief about. He was happy enough if she sort of started to accept him trying to bond with her, he didn't want to think of the trouble it would be if she stayed this standoffish all the time.
