There was that hen tournament going on at the moment, which struck him as odd. He didn't think to train a hen to fight. Even though.. He did want to participate after learning of it. Xentus shook his head to clear himself of these wandering thoughts again. It was a distraction from the pain while walking through the tunnel, but he thought he heard something. He lowered his beam of light to the floor and listened carefully. There was sound of the flowing stream and something else. A shuffling. Ahead of him, there was still more winding tunnel with occasional widened pockets. Perhaps something resided in one of these pockets? Surely something that knew of him by now. Acidity mirrored its master's guard, seeming to focus on the murky dark. It presumably couldn't see any better than he did, and he had no idea how keenly it perceived sound. But seeing it looking so carefully ahead was endearing in a way.

With careful steps by either of the duo, they slowly stalked forward, letting the gentle light of the crystal torch illuminate the path. The rocky wall was washed in the yellow toned light, revealing little holes dotting its face. Xentus eyed them curiously. Bat nests, perhaps? It did smell kind of rank here.. Another one of his steps forward seemed to provoke whatever rested within one of the nearer holes, spurring the creature within to action. The sound of stirring became the sound of wing flaps as a strange bird came fluttering out, sounding its fright with a series of shrill chirps. The single bird triggered others of the flock to follow suit, fluttering further down the path toward some unseen exit. While it was an interesting sight, it was an alarming one! If his previous actions didn't stir a dragon, this certainly did! Acidity clattered its shell at the sudden flurry of feathers in an attempt to ward the avian beasts away.

This was also a fairly decent opportunity to sneak through as well. "Come, Acidity", the leopard told the golem, hurrying to shroud his movements within the ruckus the cave birds made. The flock must be a noise easily ignored by any other resident, should this event be a frequent enough occurrence. Either that, or it was essentially the sound of a dinner bell. Xentus really hoped for the latter. He and his golem companion splashed through the stream while the birds fluttered just overhead. The tunnel echoed with the sound of their chirps and wing beats. They passed through one widened section in the tunnel, turning to lead the leopard up an ascending path.. While also beginning to leave him behind. The birds were quick, and soon their voice was the only thing he had left to guide himself. At a fork, he followed after the last few remnants of their calls, climbing up a set of natural stairs and into a widened room.

And sooner than he thought, the sounds of the cavern quieted once more. The leopard cast a careful look around the widened section of tunnel, light low to the ground to cast a dimmer reflected light along the walls. There was only a continued way forward through a natural archway to what seemed to be.. Rays of fading daylight? It wasn't enough to get a good look within the large cavern, but he could vaguely make out what seemed to be.. A sarane's nest indeed. Composed of rocks, logs, leaf litter, and shed scales. Xentus froze. Within him swelled a mix of fascination and alarm. He couldn't tell if the nest was empty, whatever sarane might reside within was sure to be dark and blend into the murk. Curiosity tempted him forward, but caution tempered his steps to be slow and steady.

The flashlight was turned off. The crystal torch was held with one hand over its tip so to dim its shed light even further. He crept along the rocky wall, blue eyes darting about the large cavern in an attempt to make out anything in particular. Acidity trailed carefully after him, following his every step. The leopard kept his entry point in mind just in case there was a need to make a hasty escape. He crept along the stone wall for a while longer, rounding halfway around the room before he caught a glimpse of motion in the nest. There was barely enough light to make out its form, but there was definitely something there. And right beside the shape was the glimmer of something with a gilded shine.. Jewelry? The nest was no treasure pile, but that.. Might be the item he was keeping in mind to look out for. After taking a brief moment to consider whether or not it was worth it, the leopard decided to go for a little thrill. He stalked toward the sleeping sarane, reached out to nab the chain.. And the beast stirred. A jolt passed through his body, prompting his feet to flee. His claws grasped the necklace and with that, it was time go leave!
