Once again, Kadin found himself in a part of this sprawling place that he hadn't been completely away about before. And, once again, it was for strange circumstances. He'd met his draconic before, sure. Many of them embraced him as a long-lost friend or even mentor. Some of them had been polite, but distance. He hadn't known what to think about that, especially from creatures so intelligent. And when one that, he was told, was the most intelligent of all had approached him with a proposition, well. He was even less sure what to make about that. Glimmer wanted to study the new breed of draconic in the canyons. Somehow, he'd convinced Kadin that the best way to do so was to go to one of these "breeding rooms" so that he may "have a closer look." To Kadin? It sounded like he was being told to play wingman to a fucking dragon. Which, sounds cool in theory? But in practice, it was pretty goddamn awkward! Especially when, now, he was standing outside the canyons with said dragon, waiting for their 'partners' to show up. He was having second thoughts about agreeing to this whole thing.

"Where are we going?" Today Seveth was trailing behind Viridi as she made her way through town. She was going somewhere, but she hadn't seen fit to inform him about where she was going. Which was fine, of course; that was her call, and she didn't have to tell him anything. But in that same vein, there was nothing stopping him from just happening to take an interest, and following along. Like a lot of draconics he had met, and a lot of people for that matter, his question was met without a real answer. "It's none of your business," she replied evenly. "Well, I guess I'll follow you then," Seveth said agreeably. He hadn't really been expecting her to answer anyway, and the mystery was part of the fun, or something like that. She glanced at him for a moment, then picked up the pace, so that he was forced to trot to keep up.

"So, how long do I actually have to be here for?" Kadin wondered out loud. He was currently standing next to the door to the room they'd been assigned, leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed. Their partner draconic and human pair hadn't shown up just yet so there wasn't much to do besides stand there and wondering if he had to watch draconic fuck. This was so much worse than a pachee breeding room. At least they only released pollen when they decided they liked each other. He'd be able to leave before it actually got to the fucking, right? God he hoped so.
"I don't imagine you need to be here at all." Glimmer replied serenely. He was laying down, sprawled on the stones in an artful pose that he'd probably fallen into effortlessly. Something something having so much intelligence naturally equated to grace, or so it would seem. If Kadin hadn't watched him arraign himself for 10 minutes, fussing over even the placement of his wing bones, he might have even believed it.

It was, Seveth knew, a ploy to get rid of him. It wasn't the first time he'd tasted this kind of treatment either. It was only stubbornness that kept him apace with her, though he really didn't care to run anywhere under normal circumstances.
These draconics really had no consideration for the shorter legs of a human. Maybe one day he could convince one of them to carry him on their back, rather than just leaving him behind in the dust.
Eventually they arrived at a building, or... what passed for a building in these parts, which was a cavern cut out from the cliffs. Viridi spoke a few words with another draconic at the entrance, who waved her through. Seveth slipped in after her. "I'm with her," he said to the draconic at the door, who gave him a dubious look, but didn't move to stop him.
And then they were in, with Viridi striding down the hall with a businesslike air.

Kadin sighed. Again. Pointedly.
"Yeah, I guess not. But I'd be a shit human companion if I just left you here to wait by yourself, wouldn't I?" Kadin asked the question, but from the look of both his face and Glimmer's, neither of them completely believed his words. The draconic was perfectly capable of waiting for his lady friend by himself. Kadin certainly did not need to be here. Still, the draconic let the words sit, both of them stewing on them in silence. Until, he finally found the desire to reply.
"I suppose your company isn't unwanted." The draconic allowed, dipping his head slightly in an obviously practiced way. Kadin sincerely hoped that he was able to act more genuine when the other draconic showed up.
He tried not to sigh. Again.
Thankfully, around then was when Glimmer lifted his head, looking down the hall and tilting his head just slightly at the sound of approaching footsteps. "Perhaps that's them." He suggested hopefully. Surely it couldn't be a different draconic looking for a room? Hopefully this was finally the one they had been waiting for?

Seveth had wanted a little more time to look around first; he had never been to this building before, and he wasn't immediately sure of its purpose. Besides the little lobby area, which they had walked right past, the entire thing seemed to be one long hallway lined with doors into different rooms.
Well. Not very different rooms, mind you. The doors were spaced out at regular intervals, and Seveth suspected the rooms were more or less identical to each other, not that he had a chance to do more than glimpse into one or two. Viridi really didn't play around when she speed walked.
She must have known where she was going. She stopped, rather abruptly, before one of the rooms. Seveth nearly ran into her before she ducked inside, and trailing after her, he was surprised to see that the room was occupied. "Oh, hello there!" he said, smiling cheerfully at the duo within.

He was thankfully proven correct when the doors open and in walked a young female who matched the description of the draconic he was supposed to be meeting today! Glimmer gracefully rose to his feet in a way that was not at all rehearsed. He artfully arranged his wings on his back and took a step towards her, asking inquisitively, "Are you Viridi? Hello, I'm Glimmer."
Kadin wanted to go on record that he had not named this draconic. He had no say in the naming practices of the draconic in his canyon. At least, not to his knowledge. But he knew that he DEFINITELY did not name this one. He wasn't sure how to communicate all of that with just his face, though, so instead he focused on saying hello back. "Hey."
Nailed it. At least Glimmer seemed happy that this other draconic had finally shown up. Well. Of course he'd be happy. He wanted to- you know what? Never mind.

Seveth looked at the other draconic - much smaller than Viridi, and a little similar to one that he had met in the Rookery, when he had gone to... find someone to teach him magic, he supposed. 'Adopt' felt like a little too strong of a word for what had happened with him and Viridi.
He hadn't realized that breed would grow up to be so small. The pale draconic, who introduced himself as Glimmer, was barely bigger than Seveth himself. This was the smallest draconic he had ever seen.
"Oh! Do you know each other? Or, wait, don't tell me," Seveth said, stalling by putting up his hands. "This is... A blind date! Right? Right?"
"I'm Viridi," Viridi replied coolly. "Sorry about him." She tried to shove Seveth back with a hind claw, but he dodged it with nimble deftness - thank you, San's workout routine - and continued to beam at everyone.

Glimmer tilted his head at the human, amused by its antics. It waved a claw, dismissing the interruption as if it hadn't even happened. If anything, it had been an interesting new insight into human behavior. "Never you mind." He assured his partner for the evening. He turned slightly, gesturing further into the room where there were some prime rocks for lounging. "Shall we? I'd so love to get started right away. Please tell me you prepared a list."
What the fuck were they talking about. Kadin didn't even look at the other guy in the room once Glimmer started going on about 'getting started' and having 'lists'. What was he talking about??? What were they going to start doing? They just got here! And neither of the draconic seemed particularly forthcoming with what the FUCK they were even here for! Fuck's sake, he was going to get a headache at this rate.

Viridi nodded, even as Seveth's expression clouded over with confusion. "A list? Of what, like, marriageable traits? Man, you guys are serious here in the Canyons, huh? Wait, it's not a shady business deal, is it? You're not here to exchange... some kind of good?"
Ignoring him as one might ignore a pesky insect, Viridi said, "Do I go first then?"
While they waited for the answer to that thrilling question, Seveth turned to the other human in the room. "You're a friend of Glimmer's then, I take it?" It didn't look as if the guy wanted to be here, which begged the question of why he was. But it was probably a little rude to ask that outright. "I'm Linyü. Do you come to the Canyon often? I don't see too many humans running around." In fact, he hadn't seen any besides himself until today, but theoretically they existed, right?

Oh, her human was quite amusing, wasn't he? He certainly thought so of himself. Listen to him, go on with all these wild theories! Glimmer gave him an amused look, like one might give a small child who'd just brought them an insect from the outdoors, before turning his attention back to where it actually belonged, on his partner.
"You may, if you'd like to." Glimmer said happily, stretching himself out in a practice manner to display his wings and tail at their best advantage, at perfect vantage point to watch her with her demonstrations. Oh, he was so excited!
"Uh." Kadin said, intelligently, to the sudden questions and general. Words. Being directed at him. He was still sort of too pulled into his own headspace to reply properly, but he was able to quickly recover. "You could say that." More like they had an arrangement. "Not really. I've just started exploring it. There's a... lot to learn around here." Understatement of the century. He'd only just discovered he had a house last week!

Seveth laughed easily. "Boy is there ever! Not that anyone tells me anything, which just makes it harder." He shrugged, sighing dramatically. Finally, someone who was answering his questions! "So! Got a name there, stranger? Or do you like keeping it mysterious?"
Seeing that he was finally occupied and out of her way, Viridi resettled herself and cleared her throat. "This will be a bit loud, so cover your ears," she warned Glimmer. Then, without any further ado, she made a sort of muffled cough - except it was louder than any cough had any right to be, resounding like distant thunder throughout the room.
Seveth, who hadn't been paying attention, was caught off guard and winced sharply. Viridi spared him a glance, but seeing that he wasn't bleeding out the ears or anything dramatic like that, she decided he must be fine. "It is usually louder, of course, but we're indoors."

"Uh." Apparently that was what Kadin was going to be saying a lot today. This- shit. What had he said his name was? Linyü? This Linyü sure liked to talk a lot. Kadin hadn't really met anyone else quite like him in the labs so far. He was NOT socialized enough for this. And, of course, he'd point out that he'd forgot to share his name, of all things. "Kadin. Have you-"
It was around then when a sound that made him think of roofs caving in and stone walls crumbling echoed throughout the enclosed space they all found themselves in. "What the fuck." He spat under his breath, raising his voice to shout over to the draconic, "Hey! A little warning would be nice!"
Glimmer, meanwhile, had heeded her advice and covered his ears. Still, the effects were marvelous! The echoing effect, the similarity to a natural phenomenon! He did so wonder how her body was able to produce such a sound. "Lovely! Absolutely breathtaking. Have you tested it out on living things before? Such a trees or something of the sort, of course."

Viridi hadn't expected to be sworn at today, and turned to fix Kadin with a look that was mostly bafflement, with a touch of affront. Seveth clocked her look and put his hands up in a placating gesture. "Now, now, let's not get worked up," he said soothingly, still smiling. His ears were ringing too, but he didn't think yelling at her was going to make Viridi more amenable to suggestions. Or more apologetic, for that matter.
But that did raise a question. "What are you doing anyway?" he said to Viridi. He'd seen her practicing her... whatever that was... at the caverns sometimes, but he hadn't thought she would use it here.
Viridi sighed. "We are demonstrating our abilities for each other," she said, "to make sure this is a good match." Turning back to Glimmer, she said, "Thank you. I haven't tested it on living things before... Well. Not on purpose." She glanced up, inclining her head as if in thought. "It seemed... cruel to try."
