"I really don't understand why you wanted to be here for this," said Mio, squinting at Seveth. They were standing outside the entrance to a cavern that was clearly not their own. "What? You're going to teach someone. Why can't I come too?" Seveth tried his best to affect an innocent look, which only earned him a sigh and a shake of the head in reply. Pressing his claws to his forehead, Mio muttered to himself. "And to think I thought it would be fun to observe someone like this... Really, I've been duped. Is there a returns and exchange department for humans?" "There isn't," Seveth informed him cheerfully. Mio stared at him for a moment, then cleared his throat. "That aside, I really don't think you should be here. This is a private home, you know! Yes, the invitation was extended to myself, but I don't think it encompasses any guests I choose to bring!"

She was nervous. She had every right to be! A strange male was going to come her for the express purpose of seeing her today. She wasn't sure if she was eager to see him or wary of it, but none of that changed the face that she was nervous! "Stop pacing." Kadin advised from where he was sitting on a low ledge that had been crafted just for that very purpose. "You invited them, they accepted. What's there to be nervous about?" "Everything." She hissed, turning on the human, wings flaring out just slightly. Once she noticed them, she quickly tucked them snug against her body again, self conscious. Her sibling still told her that she hadn't grown in them yet. "What if he doesn't like me???" She continued in much more subdued tones. Kadin closed his eyes and silently wished for strength. This was NOT what he'd signed up for when he'd adopted three draconic from the rookery.

In response to Mio's protests, Seveth only shrugged. "If they throw me out, I'll deal with it when the time comes," he said. "Come on, what's the harm? I won't get in the way, I promise. I'm just here to... glean a few extra kernels of knowledge from that mysterious mind of yours?" Seveth tried for a flattering smile, but Mio had a look on his face like someone who had bitten into a lemon.
Before Mio could retort, Seveth pulled on a chain next to the door. "Oh, hey, this must be the doorbell," he said. A gentle chime rang out as Mio made a sputtering noise, claws outstretched in an aborted attempt to stop Seveth. For better or for worse, Mio's client was now informed of their arrival, and Seveth really doubted Mio would be able to get rid of him before their hosts came out to greet them.

He really wasn't sure what else he should have expected, though. It was pretty clear when he'd first adopted them that each of the draconic he'd chosen had pretty big personalities. Especially Tara, although it took a while before her personality really became know other than just 'timid', thanks to the influence of the others.
After a bit, the sound of bells echoed throughout the cavern. Tara frozen in her fretting and turned to stare at Kadin with big eyes, "There here!"
Kadin watched at the draconic turned towards the door and then went right back to him, her eyes huge. He let her sweat it out for a moment before finally asking, "... do you want me to get it?"
"Yes!" She said immediately, flopping down where she'd been standing and making the floor shake a little. Holding back laughter, Kadin shook his head again and headed to the door. He didn't really know what he'd expected, but when he actually opened the door to greet the new arrivals, he sure hadn't been planning on saying,
"You again?"
Very polite, Kadin. Great way to make an impression.

Okay, if Seveth was being honest, his first thought when he saw Kadin's face was, 'Ah, maybe I've miscalculated.' Wouldn't be the first time this sort of thing had happened. In fact, certain parties in his acquaintance would say that he tended to miscalculate more than he actually managed to cal...culate... They were wrong, but still.
But he was nothing if not adaptable, and it only took a few seconds for him to recover, smiling more cheerfully than ever. "Kadin! Imagine running into you here. Swanky place you've got." To Mio, who was beginning to hover rather anxiously, he said, "Look, see? We're already acquainted. Kadin's a friend. I'm sure he won't mind if I tag along for your tutoring session. Right?"
Mio looked conflicted at that, his gaze shifting to Kadin for confirmation. Seveth had half a mind to throw an arm around Kadin's shoulders, but decided he probably shouldn't push his luck that far.

Kadin wasn't about to just slam the door on Mio's face. Tara would be pretty pissed off if he did that, after all. But he did give serious thought to the comedic value of slamming the entrance on Linyü's face. He contemplated this while Linyü rambled on about them being great friends or whatever, he wasn't really listening. It wasn't until he heard a quiet (for a giant draconic) "Kadin?" from somewhere behind him that he finally made up his mind.
With a sigh of resignation, Kadin opened the door wider. "Come on in. Tara's waiting in the front room," He said to Mio, pointedly addressing the draconic and letting him inside first before, finally, looking at Linyü.
"So we're friends now?" This time he did actually look amused, letting Linyü inside despite his earlier misgivings. "Is that all it takes with you? Meet up once on a draconic speed date, have some awkward conversation, and, bam. Friends."

"Ah, well, um," said Mio, looking increasingly confused by the turn of events. He glanced between the open door and Seveth, but Seveth didn't expect it to be a difficult decision for him. Sure enough, Mio headed in a moment later, leaving Seveth standing at the door, pouting in Kadin's general direction.
"Sure we're friends!" he said, letting a little indignation color his voice. "I don't know about you, but I had a good time. Mostly." He gave a one-shouldered shrug. "I've made friends for less."
Morosely, he thought that Kadin would probably have gotten on well with San. But then, if those two had met, they probably wouldn't have bothered to talk to each other.
He shoved that thought aside though, on the pretext of the fact that it wouldn't help him here, and returned to his efforts in trying to cajole Kadin into inviting him in. "And even if I'm not your friend, I'm Mio's friend. Least you could do as a host is invite me in for some tea."

Tara, who had been not so subtly standing in the doorway of what would be their 'tutoring' room so that she could overhear everything, let her wings droop a bit in relief when she could finally see Mio heading towards her. She stepped out of the room to great him, her shoulders slightly hunched and wings held close to her body, as if she was trying to take up the least amount of space possible. "Mio? Hello! I'm, uh, Tara. Although you probably already know that..."
"Mmhm." Kadin seemed unconvinced on the whole 'friends' idea, but it was still kinda amusing how hard Linyü seemed to be trying to sell him on it. "You might qualify as an acquaintance. At most." He finally allowed, before looking thoughtful. "How do you feel about trying experimental blended teas?" He asked while he opened the door wide, offering to let Linyü inside by leaving the door open when he turned to walk further back into the canyon his draconic called home. If Linyü decided to follow, Kadin would take him to one of the off shoots of the room Mio and Tara had been in, this one set up as a human/small draconic-sized kitchen.

"Ah, Tara! It's a pleasure to meet you in person," said Mio amiably. He could see that she was agitated, but there was no sense in them both standing on awkward ceremony, and at any rate part of him was just relieved at having found a way to rid himself of Linyü, even if only temporarily. "Should we begin at once? Was there a particular topic you've been having trouble with?"
As for Seveth, so callously discarded by his dragon companion... He sighed a little at Kadin's assessment, but let it go without a fight. It wasn't as if he wasn't used to it. But he brightened again immediately at the offer of tea. "Blended? Oh, you're going to make me a custom brew?" He gave Kadin a once-over. "I hadn't pegged you for a tea snob. Alright, show me what you've got!" Following in Kadin's wake, he surveyed the kitchen with curious eyes.

"Oh! Uh, yes." Tara hesitated a moment before walking further into the room, flicking her tail in the general direction of some books that were scattered around the room. One was set up on a table, propped up so that she could gently turn the pages without tearing them to pieces. "Lately I've mostly been working on my reading comprehension. I'm trying to study more about draconic history. Specifically, how we can to be here and our dealings with the labs. It's... slow. Kadin usually helps me read the books, but he can't be here all the time and he doesn't... Well, he cares, but he's go other things on his mind than draconic history." She said with a sigh, hunching in on herself a little as if she expected him to lose interest right away, too.
Kadin shrugged and waved a hand in the direction of various small containers of tea. Blacks, green, herbal, it seemed as if there was quite a selection of small batches, arranged in the kitchen with no rhyme or reason. There was also a kettle on a fire stove, presumably to warm up some water for said tea. "I'm really not. But Rochelle, she oversees a cafe I work at, and she insists that we need to start selling tea. I don't drink the stuff so I have no fucking clue what's good and what's not. I guess you'll be doing me a favor by trying some."

"Draconic history, hmm?" Mio's attention sharpened as Tara presented him with her concerns, all matters of human companions forgotten entirely now that he had something else to focus on. He surveyed the room, though not very closely; only when they arrived at the table did he zero in on the materials before them. "And these are the books you've been working with?" he said, flipping over one book to peer at the title before setting it back down on the page that it had been opened to. There was no judgement in his tone just yet, as he was merely trying to get an idea of the reading material she had made use of thus far.
As for Seveth, it was a good thing he had a conversation partner - or rather, a partner willing to converse. If he had to stand there waiting for water to boil, he'd go nuts. "Rochelle," he said. "Friend of yours? Another Draconic or...?"

"If it's not too much trouble." She said carefully, not quite sure what to make of this tutor just yet. Most of her experience with other draconic thus far had been playmates, bullies, or adults who didn't really pay her much attention. Well. Older adults. She mostly kept to herself and didn't have much to do with other draconic, but she was hoping that if she studied hard and had more interesting things to talk about, that could change. "Yes. Like I said, I'm still working on reading comprehension. I can read a little it's just..." She gestured vaguely towards the books. "It feel like it's just not something I'm built for, sometimes."
"Oh." Kadin shook his head, poking at the kettle for a moment before shrugging and going to sit down at a table set up in the middle of the room. "No, she's an enileaf." He did not elaborate, letting Linyü draw whatever conclusions he wanted to from that.

"Ahhh, I see," said Mio. Now that she had elaborated a bit more, he had a better understanding of where the problem lay. "In that case, might I suggest some easier reading material? History can be quite a dense subject, and it would be better to improve your reading proficiency in general before you tackle something like that. Of course, there are some more simplified volumes with larger print and more illustrations..." He paused, looking thoughtful. "Have you been to the public library yourself?"
Far from being surprised at the revelation that Kadin had an Enileaf making business decisions for him, Seveth merely laughed. "Oh, you have one of those at home too, huh?" He took a seat opposite Kadin, setting his elbows down on the tabletop and propping up his chin with the heel of one hand. "I'm surprised she wants to work. Doesn't seem very... cat-like of her."

"Oh." Tara said softly, looking at the books with a small frown on her face. Look for... easier reading material? Sure, she had tried that when she was little, but... "I- I'm supposed to be improving. I thought that... that this would help? I can get it, eventually, it just takes a while and..." She looked down, unwilling to admit that most of the reason she had such difficult books was because many of the other draconic here read the same. At the mention of a library, however, she looked up. "Oh, uh, no. I've never been to the library before, is it far?"
Kadin was equally unsurprised that apparently having bossy pets was a universal experience in this part of the world. Not that he'd ever be able to call Rochelle a pet to her face. He shook his head at the suggestion of her actually decided to do work that wasn't sitting around and bossing him around. "Work? She sits at the front, has people admiring her all day, and makes me do all of the cooking." He waved his hand towards the teas, which, once again, had been her idea, not his. "She can't even drink most teas.”
