Juniper hadn't experienced the scrubby lot that Leth used for the training dummy, but she perked up when coming upon it. Did it smell interesting? She approached the brown dummy without hesitation, no worry that it was more than mere wood and paint after a deep inhale. "Whatcha' think, Juni?" Lethalia talked as she opened the treat bag, figuring they could start this off easily for her. The same treat she always enjoyed - thick bones with the slighest bit of meat and fat still clinging to them. This time for something really special, Lethalia brought along a grouping of ribs - three still connected together by the meat, and over a foot long. Juniper's eyes were only for that beauty of a treat when Lethalia uncovered it, looking something suspicious that this was being handed over without any strings attached. Still, given permission, she picked up one side to gnaw dantily on. crunch|1

Not quite the bone splintering 'crunch' she'd been hoping for right off the bat. That was fine - it's not like she could finish a bone treat without crushing something . Perhaps if it she was sufficiently full to not bother, but Leth hadn't known this hen to turn down food for the difficulty of it. Juniper settled down with it, placing a paw on one side to gnaw at a corner while she gauged how soft the bone was. She manipulated the entire row of bones into the side of her jaw, giving a test chew or two before she cleaved off the end of it with the gnash of her blunt teeth. "Good crunch, Juni!" Lethalia informed her, wanting the hen to get a feel for the command before they tried it on a less savory tasting target. Juniper knew she noticed the satyr making the same sound a few times while she was crunching down her snack, but didn't take rapt notice. crunch|2

For such a decadent treat it was gone in no time at all, the hungry hen seeking more food as soon as she couldn't sniff up any more fallen morsels. Lethalia had a pretty good idea of where someone might dispose of a body; the only thing cleaner would be something that would swallow it whole. "Crunch," Lethalia commanded, when Juniper's eyes found her in search of more food. June looked oddly at her with a tilted head, as if ensuring she heard right. She looked between her owner and the dummy she pointed at, sniffing the wooden dummy again before staring pointedly at her owner. That was very much not a food item - why would she bite that? Silly humanoids. That look was so incredulous on a sarane Lethalia had to laugh for it's clarity even on a reptilian face. You want me to do what now? crunch|3

"C'mon, jus' bite it, crunch," Lethalia repeated, sure she'd gotten a decent start with a hen that was decently smart for a sarane. Surely she would have caught on? Instead she just looked downright offended at the mere suggestion. Leth pursed her lips, reaching into the bag of raw meat goodies for June, finding a loose chunk that wasn't attached to anything too rigid. "Okay'n," Leth started, showing Juniper the bright red ribbon of meat as she walked right past the hen and over to the brown dummy. Looking carefully for the right spot, Leth eventually settled on jamming the meat scrap into the joint segments that made up the dummy's neck. It was lifted to place there, and dropped to pin the morsel in place and in a none too accessable spot without two hands. Juniper looked at her with an utterly dumbfounded tilt of her head. crunch|4

"Well?" the satyr implored, backing away and letting the hen get a good look at it. She still seemed to think it all rather deeply insane, sniffing the treat with bare interest before she looked back to her owner and the much more easily accessable treat bag. "Nope," Leth admonished, tapping on the hen's fleshy muzzle when she got pushy and a little closer. "No, go get'cha own,"[/i] she snarled, pointing again to the treat loaded dummy. Juniper lingered for a few moments longer, stubbornly awaiting to see if she might be able to wheedle something out of the woman anyway, before skulking off with her ears pinned. Fine, she would go check out this stinky stupid dummy! Lethalia could practically imagine the teenage grumbling coming from the hen, and not for the first time, was grateful she didn't have to hear it in person. Juniper lv|32 ly|32 crunch|5

Juniper had no doubt of where the treat had been placed, but she didn't have the same way of accessing it as the annoying humanoid hands did. It was headbutted with her wide head and dainty horns first, just to see if brute force might be capable of knocking it loose. When that turned no fruit falling from the tree, as it were, she reached up with both sets of claws, raking down the neck of the poor thing and tugging at it as hard as she could. As if in defeat, Juniper rolled over on her back while pawing at the dummy, leading to a bit of chortling from her owner nearby. What a horrible person to leave her hen to befall such a horrible fate. She might wonder where all of the drama in this one came from, but both of her parents were sufficient drama queens to create another. crunch|6

"Juni, y'not tryin' too hard," Lethalia observed through her tittering, perched on the nearby fence and settling herself in for a long one. It was up to the hen just how long of a process she wanted to make this! "C'mon, June-bug. I know y'better than tha'. Where'd m'smart girl go?" Then again, if she had a direct link to Juni like she did Vidarr, perhaps she could also make jabs at this one until she worked, too. Somehow she didn't suppose that was a regularly accepted training practice. The hen continued to roll around, grappling with the dummy's neck and pawing at it from below. Perhaps the meat would fall out that way, without much real work involved. It was all done with half an eye on the satyr, as if wondering when the woman was going to take pity on her and come over to help her out. crunch|7

Seeing as her owner wasn't going to save her, Juniper rolled back onto her feet with more capability than her show could cover up. She could've gotten used to things being done the easy way for her - after that display with Esti, Leth was done putting on her hatchling gloves for June. If she could dole it out like that, she could be trained like an entirely adult sarane. Finally she gave up the ghost of picking it out with her formidable talons, nothing but inedible shreds coming of that. First it was a little pinch of her front teeth, see if she might be able to snag the treat and pull it out from there. There were quite a few attempts at that, squishing and contorting her muzzle up against it in a few different ways. Lethalia was watching and ready for when Juni[er finally wrapped her teeth around the entire thing, even if it wasn't very 'crunchy', they'd get there. "Good crunch, baby!" crunch|8

Juniper's head snapped up at her owner's positive sounds, much more grateful for the easy morsel she was thrown instead of this stuck one she had to work on. When she made quick work of her morsel and looked back for seconds, Leth only pointed back to the dummy. "Crunch it, June! Y'got it!" Juniper snorted, rounding on the dummy again while she thought on that. Once again she wrapped her maw just lightly where she could fit it around the neck of the dummy, letting go in an instant and aiming back towards her owner for her treat. "Naw. Do better," Leth told her, sending the hen back with a dismissive wave. June's ears flattened - that was what she'd done last time, right?! She went over again, pawing at the dummy's neck a few more times before she gave it a more sincere bite seemingly more out of frustration than anything. crunch|9

The hen looked rather delighted when this rained another treat down on her head. How wonderful! It didn't take long to for her to realize the ramping destruction she brought upon the dummy meant her owner gave her treats by the couple for really sinking her teeth into the unfavorable wood. But, hells, now that she'd figured out what her fickle human wanted, she would crush this thing to splinters if it meant a treat every time she did so! Lethalia waited for the hen to settle to make sure she was responding to the command and not simply performing for treats, and pointed to the less chewed tail of the dummy. "Crunch, June!" Eager to earn another morsel, Juniper dove for the dummy's unprotected tail and siezed it in her formidable teeth, giving it a vicious shake at the end for good measure to drive her blunt weapons home. Leth chortled to herself, mildly impressed; that'd do. Juniper lv|33 ly|33 crunch|10 end

Juniper was the first time Lethalia had thought of a hen in a somewhat serious light. Sure enough, Esti was a wonderful broodmother but she was never interested in fighting. Neither had Ivaylo been - the white's dam had been outright terrified of drakes for the longest time. Some of Vidarr's daughters might be rather elementally capable, but they were rather lazy like him. June? She was almost a little scary, for much different reasons a bearish brood mother was. Well, she would be even more formidable with her dam's near-signature move. That flash of light served Vay well in the pit, and Lethalia saw no reason to muck with that working out for them. Just like with the red, Lethalia donned a pair of sunglasses and found one of the cleaner mettallic cookie sheets in the pantry. And just like Vay, Juniper looked at her owner and that bizzarre equipment like she was mad. flash|1

Funny, she got that look a lot from her creatures. Either she really did do some weird things to them, or anything people did was just strange to the sarane when they were so far removed from it. It didn't change that June was still going to be subjected to her owner's whims, no matter how odd she found it. Juniper got up from her warm lakeside bed of rocks; it was worth it to sate the curiosity over whatever it was her satyr was up to. "June! Look - I'gotha glinty trick, too!" Lethalia announced, making sure the sunglasses were in place for all they would spare her. She tilted the silvery cookie sheer, catching the sun on it and glaring the ray of light at Juniper. The sarane squinted against the beam, otherwise looking quite unimpressed by the display. This is really what her basking was interrupted for? flash|2

"C'mom. Y'know I'd leave 'ya alone faster if'ya do it," Lethalia bargained, as if it would make a difference. Juniper's squint turned to a glower when the bounced sunlight didn't let up, and her squinting turned a little closer to snarling. Yeah, it was plenty rude; that was the point. There was a tendency for it to inspire a more spirited response to things. Sometimes poking the bear a little was the only way to get particularly stubborn creatures to play nice - Juniper becoming a first class example of 'stubborn'. Fine. She wanted light? When Juniper spread her short wings, the natural iridesence of them was especially apparent on her wings when they caught in the sunlight. They almost looked holographic or studded with glitter - that was before the glare off of them became far too much to look directly at in fairly short order, each little spotlight growing into a blinding flash. flash|3

"Yeah! Jus' like that!" Leth announced, even as she was cowering under both of her arms. Two pairs of sunglasses hadn't even aided her all that much. But hey, it was always easier when something came naturally to them; all she had to do was tie a word to it. It shouldn't take all that long, if the hen was feeling cooperative. "Good glint!" she continued to drive home with a meaty treat, throwing it in June's general area since she was still seeing spots. The satyr peeked out and blinked, finding Juniper a little more engaged with this if it meant she was getting fed. "Yeah? Show me again! Glint!" she attempted - but the command didn't have quite enough meaning to it to have her performing it off of word alone. "June - this -" she flashed the metal sheetpan's glare in the hen's eyes again, only briefly this time, "[/b]glint."[/b] flash|4

It was only a bit annoying, but her human's paltry flashes of light couldn't hold a candle - heh - to the light show the hen's lineage could pull off. The satyr was making her point clear, and after another repetition of the word, Juniper gave her another flare of light off of her wings. Why was her owner asking for this? The hen was never entirely sure, but maybe she would get bored the sooner the hen did enough of what she was looking for, after doling out a bunch of food. That was how this usually went. Lethalia couldn't help but think June was picking up on this quickly, but she also had some keen priorities. Training came to her naturally - and this one was shown without much question. There only had to be another request for a 'glint' to get another brilliant sunburst, and a rather peeved looking hen that they weren't done with this yet. Juniper lv|34 ly|34 flash|5 end
