Everyone here? Sort of looked the same. They were ALL shady looking, all of them looked like they were up to no good, and he was about to pull his hair out trying to find the right guy for this damn job. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost and he couldn't see any more people, one guy in particular really stood out to him. He couldn't tell if they were a man or a woman, but that seemed to fit the description of what he'd been looking for anyway, so he counted that as a check in their favor. What also really helped was that they were sitting on a crate, looking pretty protective of it, in fact, while also seeming like they were waiting for someone. Was that them? Were they looking to sell the books Kadin was supposed to find? He frowned to himself, uneasy at the thought.

He couldn't let this person get away with the books and have this whole trip be a waste. So, looking around to make sure no one was watching or following him, Kadin made his way over and, oh so 'casually', sat down next to the creep on the crate. The individual jumped, looking at him with wide eyes and a started expression. Kadin smiled. Dylan sniffed their boots. And Kadin just waited.
"Errrr...." Yeah, they really weren't happy about him being there. Kadin raised an eyebrow and waited to see what they'd say, wondering if he'd ever seen someone like this before. He was really looking forward to finishing this quest, actually. This person rubbed him the wrong way. "What do you think you're doing?" They finally sputtered, seemingly at a loss for what to do with him.
Kadin just shrugged in response and looked away, taking his time in considering the best way to approach this.

"Did you know they hired the whole damn town to search for those missing books?" He decided to ask, figuring there was no point in waffling around the point. It was satisfying to feel the individual jump next to him, apparently only now realizing that he wasn't here to buy whatever the hell they were selling or whatever the heck they had thought he was here for. He didn't wait for them to start making up excuses, but instead just barreled on with, "I'm right, aren't I? You have them." It wasn't a question.
Dylan seemed to sense the change in mood and looked between Kadin and the individual. He backed away from the shady person, apparently not liking what he'd been smelling, hackles raised. The individual twitched, as if they wanted to leave, but they stay stubbornly on top of the crate. Kadin hoped that he was right about that one, too.

He hoped that the books were right here with them and that he wouldn't have to do yet more fucking searching. "The way I see it." He said pleasantly. "We've got a couple of options. You can come with me, nicely, and we'll return what was missing. No problem. Or, I'll call for my sarane and let them and the houluh decide what to do with someone that they all clearly don't like. What do you think?" Kadin wondered, finally sparing a glance at the individual yet again. They seemed uncomfortable. He didn't give a crap. He didn't want to fight if he could help it and he didn't exactly have the biggest or scariest pets to threaten him with, but well. Sarane could fly. It was a reasonable bluff to say that they were nearby and would come when he called, right? The individual sat stiffly for a moment before slumping.

Good. At least they seemed to recognize when they'd lost, even if Kadin hadn't whipped out a pair of handcuffs or something. "Great." Kadin said, pleased. He stood up, but stayed near the individual, towering over them as they still sat on the crate. "I don't need to tie you up for this, do I? You've lost." They seemed to be considering running, but eventually agreed to hand over the books in exchange for Kadin making sure that they didn't get mixed up in any revenge plots concocted by the ones who'd hired him. Agreeing to these terms, Kadin wrapped up the quest. He brought the individual, books in tow, back to where the job had been posted, eager to put this long ass day of searching behind him. He was about ready to be off his feet for a while, all that walking along the docks had been pretty killer.
