Sometimes, just for fun, Sevyrn liked to head down to the center of town and check out that strange 'quest board'. Some times she had a blast - like the night she got to watch a comet shower - but sometimes... well, sometimes it wasn't quite as fun. And sometimes she got dragged around town by Quinn with her big ideas and need to 'have fun'... Sevyrn herself preferred things a little calmer than big party, but to each their own. The sign that she saw today had seemed pretty interesting, though. Supply & Demand were sponsoring a sled race, offering the needed sled to anyone willing to enter. All people had to do was supply their own sled puller... easy enough, right? It would be fun in an easy kind of manner, just the way that she liked. Who to bring, though? Walking through her kennel, Sevyrn's gaze stopped on her first equillion. 1

D was strong, quick, well trained - Sev imagined that she would be everything she needed in order to at least stand a fighting chance in a sled race. Okay, yes - they had never worked with sled pulling or any kind of pulling even once, but such a thing could be learned. The young woman leaned against the fence that contained the equillion pasture, watching as Disceva and the other equines minded their own. One of the young ones, a juvenile wild, hovered close to Disceva with the kind of admiration in his eyes that Sevyrn had seen since the moment she'd brought the young one home. Was it wrong to want to part the two right now? The young one would still have other playmates - and it likely wouldn't be long before they returned.
"Disceva!" Sevyrn called, pulling the mare's attention towards her. The demure pure had not yet noticed that the girl had arrived, and as soon as she heard that voice her head swiveled in the direction it came from.

The pastel-hued mare knickered towards the girl as they met, fence parting them. That didn't stop Sevyrn from reaching over the rickety wood to to stroke her fingers through the mare's long, soft pale purple-blue mane. "Hey girl," Sevyrn cooed towards the mare, face lit up in a smile, as Disceva moved to nuzzle her cheek in to the palm of the woman's hand. The pair had a long history together - well over a decade at each others' side. As much as Sev adored all of the animals that she cared for, very few had the kind of bond hat Sevyrn shared with one of her oldest companions.
"How do you feel about learning something new today?" Sevyrn asked the equillion, who seemed pleased to simply have the woman's attention. It seemed pretty safe to say that the equillion was going to have no problem heading out for a bit.

Sevyrn had to head in to the stable to grab the mare's tack, and Disceva seemed to know that something was up - the mare met her within the barn, walking through the opened doors to the pasture as soon as Sevyrn had made her way through the person-sized door at the front. The woman had to chuckle a little about it - the pair seemed to know each other rather well. "What? Do you know that we're going somewhere?" Sevyrn asked the equillion, giving the mare a good scratch between her ears before moving to grab Disceva's saddle off of its spot near the wall.
"We're going to go sledding, actually," Sevyrn explained as she started to put the gear on to Disceva, prepping her to head out. Once the saddle was on nice and snug, she stopped to give the equillion another scratch. "I'm going to teach you how to pull one, actually. There's a contest going on."

"How do you feel about that?" Sevyrn asked the equine, cocking her head to the side as she walked off to grab the mare's bridle off the wall and carefully wrap it around her head properly. The mare was comfortable with this act, familiar with it thanks to previous training that Sevyrn had put in with her. At that point they were ready to head out, and Sev offered Disceva a yummy sugar cube before hopping up on to her back and signalling that it was time to get moving. The pair were in no rush, taking their time as they walked idly towards the public park and the tallest hill within it. At the very least this would be fun bonding experience for her and her equillion, if not something that Sevyrn found herself genuinely enjoying.
It had been too long since the last time she had tried to do something that put a smile on her face.

Sevyrn idled towards their destination, in no rush when wandering with her most trusted mount. Disceva seemed to be enjoying the pleasant adventure, though she probably had no idea what their destination should be. Sevyrn had to wonder, as she reached a fork in the road that would lead her to Quinn's place if she ventured in one direction and the park if she went the other, if she should stop and see if Quinn wanted to come along. The pair were often inseparable, after all, and the red head would find a lot of joy in seeing Sev get out and try new things and have fun of her own accord. When was the last time that happened, after all?
She decided to go for it, and signalled for Disceva to follow the path that would lead her towards her best friend's cozy little abode. Hell, they could turn it in to a competition between themselves if they wanted.

Sevyrn pulled up in front of her best friend's little cottage and hitched Disceva to a fence post after hopping off - it wasn't the most secure hold, but the mare's placid nature left Sevyrn more than comfortable that she would be right where she was left once she was out of the house. Sev didn't even stop to knock on the front door before pushing it open, as at home with Quinn as she was in her own home.
"You around?" She asked, unsure of the answer because Quinn had a bad habit of leaving her house unlocked when she went out. It only took a few seconds before an energetic face bounced around the corner to look in to the entryway.
"Hey! What's going on?" Quinn chirped, a juvenile malii plopped around her shoulders having the lazy time of his life.
"Wanna go sledding?" Sevyrn asked in return, causing Quinn to furrow her eyebrows in confusion.

"What do you mean, do I want to go sledding?"
"There's some kind of sledding competition going on down at the park, I was dragging D out to try it out. I thought you might want to come along," Sevyrn tried to explain, scratching at the back of her neck as she did so. Luckily, Quinn's pure confusion seemed to fade just a touch.
"You... you're going out and having fun?" Quinn teased. "What happened to grumpy doom and gloom?"
Sev was just about to open her mouth in return when Quinn piped up again - "Yes. I would love to go, what do I need?"
"Just someone that could learn how to pull a sled, they're supplying the sleds."
It took Quinn a few minutes to figure out who she wanted to bring, but in the end Quinn hopped behind Sevyrn on Disceva's back, and the pair were off to Quinn's kennel.

Quinn had settled with one of her own equillion, so after they'd been able to stop Sevyrn and Disceva did not have to worry about sharing the mare's back. Quinn's boy was a friend of D's, and the pair were more than happy to walk in tandem with each other - though it was obvious that they wished they'd been able to have a more involved greeting than what they had gotten. Just like before on the way to Quinn's, heading towards the direction of the park the girls were still in no hurry. It had been a few days since the last time that they had gotten together and though Sevyrn had little to remark about when it came to her own life, Quinn was a chatterbox with a busy life.
Though Sevyrn did not have much to add to the conversation, the lilt of her friend's voice rambling beside her was enough to be calming.

They pulled up to the park and found out that this had pulled in many, many people - so many that Sevyrn started to feel uncomfortable as soon as she saw the crowd. Quinn could sense her discomfort immediately, and offered her a small reassurance. "Hey - this was your idea. And it's just a couple hours of our life. We'll have fun, we'll go home, we'll have a laugh about how we both failed miserably. Yeah?"
Sevyrn's gaze pulled away from the ground, and she looked towards Quinn before nodding. "Yeah, that sounds good to me."
Together, the girls hopped off of their equillion and walked in tandem towards the registration area, where they would be able to pick up their rented sleds and get to teaching the equines how to pull them. This... was going to be funny. At least Disceva knew how to work with mount commands? That would hopefully make things a bit easier....

Sev had no idea what she was doing, though, and Quinn seemed to know even less. Training was not Quinn's forte - in fact, Sevyrn had mount trained the equillion that she had brought along in the first place. It would be fun, though - or so the girls swore to each other as they tried to figure out how to attach these sleds to their creatures. Neither of the equillion seemed very happy with the process, though Disceva was much calmer about the process. Sevyrn had meant to train her to be used to pulling things along behind her, but she hadn't managed to find the time to and as such, she struggled to understand exactly what was going on.
Well... at least properly training D to pull a load behind her would be easier after this experience? Or so that was how Sevyrn liked to view the situation. Who knew how things were going to go?

Sevyrn figured it out quicker than Quinn did and as of yet this wasn't a competition, so once Disceva had her sled attached - something she visibly did not seem very pleased about - Sev moved to give her friend a hand as well. Though they were likely going to consider each other their main competition, for now they were simply equals trying to figure out how things worked. Once the other equillion had his sled attached, it was time to figure the rest out...
"Use your mount commands," Sevyrn suggested to Quinn. "You might not be able to use your body language to guide him, but he knows what to do when you tell him to go... It's just a matter of figuring out if he realizes you mean the same thing without you on his back. Hopefully it won't be too difficult, yeah?"
"Thanks Sev," Quinn said and pulled Sevyrn in for a quick side hug, kissing the girl's temple as she did so.

Alright.. get on the sled, hold on... Aaaand go! Sevyrn felt rather uncomfortable standing on the sled, but that was the point of this - it was a sled race, time to get pulled around. Luckily Disceva was pretty intuitive and though she hated the feeling of having the sled attached to her, she was able to understand that the same 'go' that meant for her to start moving when Sev was on her, meant she should start moving now. The hardest part seemed to be getting the mare to not want to shirk the sled right off of her, which is Sev had done right wasn't going to happen.
... was she going to end up tipped over some time today? She was probably goign to end up tipped over some time today.
At least D was handling things a little bit better than Quinn's equillion was. He... did not seem to want to move.

Since Disceva seemed to be handling things relatively well, Sevyrn offered to swap pullers - she would take the more difficult one, and Quinn could take the much more placid and well behaved mare. Quinn did not seem to want to argue with that - in fact as soon as "Do you want to take Di-" had left her mouth, Quinn had already raced to take her spot. At leas the girls were friends... Sev couldn't be offended by it, though it was hilarious that she hadn't even been able to get the mare's name out of her mouth. Poor Quinn...
This guy just did not want to move, though. This was going to be interesting... hopefully a treat would make him feel better?
"You know, buddy, if you just start moving this will be done with sooner," She said to him as she held a hand out to offer the equillion a carrot.

Eventually... after a lot of prodding... the male equillion did start to move forward when requested, and Sevyrn was pleased. He... wasn't doing much more, but it was a decent first step. Quinn, on the other hand, was now having a much easier time now that she was handling Disceva instead of her own equine. Sevyrn really didn't mind, D was great with almost everyone. Hell, if Quinn wanted to keep her for the race then Sev would be okay with that was well. Whatever kept everyone happy, yeah?
Sev was making decent progress with Quinn's equillion, at least. It would probably be in their best interest for her to stick with him, as she had a bit more experience as a handler than Quinn did. After a while there was an announcement that race time was getting close, and everyone should start getting ready to go. That was rather worrisome.
