On the Board
It is this time of year that some people celebrate The Incursion; that is, the birth of the Labs that founded the Labs City. Decorations are put up all over town, including some home-made 'robots' (or rather, robot-like metal husks) that stand menacingly as a testament to all things perhaps not quite natural. The last few years, this month has been tinged with some amount of sorrow- just what happened to the Head Scientist?
As you make your way to the questing board, you find that even WELP appears to be getting in on this festivity (but don't they compete with the Labs? no one is really sure). You see a few different individuals dressed up in what are obviously WELP labcoats, handing out flyers. A peculiar little kapper (hairless and catlike, with three eyes) wearing a black tutu and a skeleton-printed hoodie grins at you. Her teeth are all snaggle-tooth, but it is difficult to be afraid of such a small individual. "This is Dis with WELP Corp! My team members and I are here to invite you to a bonfire in honor of The Incursion." She holds out a flyer in her clawed little fingers to you. "There will be catering, and you may bring a pet with you if you wish." The middle eye blinks as she continues- "If you don't have a WATT, the back of the flyers has a map to the festival grounds. If you do have one of our revolutionary WATTS- you can find it on the official WELP blog as well!" At this, she bids you adieu. What a peppy little scientist! Her other team members are busy answering questions and handing out flyers to other quest-goers.
This sounds like an interesting little quest, if not a tad simple.
-
The night of the bonfire is calm and clear-skied, if not a little bit cold for this time of year. There are several bonfires lit safely around the huge field (one that had been recently harvested of the golden grain within it) and it seems like nearly the whole town is here. There are various stands from the cafes and restaurants of the Labs set up with a ton of different delicious treats! A few people have gotten together to speak and eat, and still a few more are attending dances, or having an unofficial battle or two farther out from the rest of the crowds. What would you like to do with your night?
Later on, a fireworks display is planned. It seems that WELP has found a way to make fireworks nearly soundless, so as not to panic creatures with an aversion to loud noises.
In Order to Succeed: Roleplay hanging out at the bonfire! People can team up and do a quest roleplay together this month, but you must do the required amount of posts yourself (IE: If you team up with someone, both of you must do x posts to complete the quests. It is not split in half!). Be sure to put all of the people roleplaying with you in your first post. You can definitely do the quest by yourself this month if you prefer. Each person can bring one pet (but you don't have to bring a pet if you don't want to).
Prize: Perhaps there will be a special caterer with some delicious festive prizes? Probably QP, too.
Challenge Rating: Easy

"Its their latest species release. Small and fluffy is just what the people need during the holidays." the reporter jabbered lightly on the radio. Small and fluffy huh. What was the idea behind that. Not everyone liked small and fluffy. Ok, I don't mind small and fluffy. *scritch scritch scritch* something was pawing at the gate? Getting up, the fox stretched his limbs out... mid winter hibernation wasn't a thing for foxes. "Is this your cat?" someone passing by stooped and grabbed hole of whatever was out there. The fox tilted his head briefly, rubbing one padded finger at his ear fuzz. "No?" he responded. The cat being held by its scruff squirmed and mewled. It was orange and cream, with a little bow tied at the bottom of its tail. The fox glanced at the animal... and looked at its eyes. They were like precious stones. And he was... confused. 1

"Well it is now." The someone lobbed the orange cat at him, forcing K to catch it. the cat was all tiny claws as it sought purchase from sudden flight. The someone walked away, muttering about stray animals. Too taken by surprise to act otherwise, K backed up and set himself back down on the floor. His long fur tangled in the cat's claws, it clung to his chest like some sort of weird monkey. He mutters to himself on rude humans who still believe him to be a stray animal here in the kennel. Because no, he's not. He's a citizen just like anyone else. Carefully, his padded hand/paw cautiously stroke the cat-koala as he grumbles. Sniff sniff ssniiiifffff the kitten diden't know anything about the world. only that attachment meant survival. and survival meant food. Mew? it looked up at his face. this wasn't a human, although it had looked for one. It was...a fox. 2

The kitten didn't understand what a fox was. Looked like dog, but fluffier then dog. Taller ears. and a literal nest of black and silver fur. The fox's fur felt soft to nestle into. The tiny paws kneaded its chest, a small purr coming form it. Love me, I'm adorable, I'm hungry for the love of everything FEED ME. Charisma or just stupid? By instinct, the kitten knew people were the keys for survival. But animal people? Nothing but question marks. It would need to appeal to the animal person's instincts. Which would be... act the offspring, right? But the fox smelled utterly male. What was the best way to lure the fox into its clever little 'love me and I'll drain you dry' vampire honey pot instincts? Purr and act cute. Thats what cats do. Regular cats. The fox's padded hand carressed its back carefully, unsure on what to do. well, its a start. 3

Spirtual sensitivity of a toaster indeed. Kristofor let the cat creature knead him, purring softly. It was...a very strange cat. The ears were a lot larger then other cats he'd ever encountered. And... he picked the small creature up from his bare chest and inspected it. The cat creature curled in on itself from the cold. Its tail was split at the tip, and had a ribbon. Did the ribbon have some some sort of identification? He reached for it, but the cat's claws lashed out and caught his paw. Mrrrrowl! It squeaked at him. "I want to look at your tag" he tired to reason with the creature but it kicked at his paw again, squirming. Fine. Lifting the creature up to eye level, he glanced up and down at the ribbon without touching it. Nothing written down. Ok. Maybe it was just something else. The kitten shivered, its short fur nothing against the cold. 4

'I should get some information on if theres any cats here in the area.' he chose, bringing the kitten close to his fur again. Ms. Kevin must have some idea... The kitten dug its claws into his chest fur as he went back out into the hall and down to the receptionist. "Inception bonfire?" "Just something for the anniversary of our city founding." "Just follow the flyer they say." some folks said as they were looking at the bulletin board. the fox didn't pay attention to them as he walked over to the reception. "Oh good morning, Mr fox sir." It wasn't Kevin at the desk today, but a young man with reptillian eyes and scales dusting the sharper edges of his facial edges. He didn't recognize that human? "How are you today?" The "I'm well, thank you." The other made a confused noise, fiddling with some sort of device on their wrist. The hands were human enough, with slightly sharper nails. 5

"Oh, you speak Laiyan, that makes a lot of sense now." the receptionist chirped happily. He rattles his wrist at the fox person. "This handy gadget is a translator, but I have ot hear the language spoken first in order for the sensor to properly translate." "Is it something I can find for myself? Common is not my first language." the fox inquires, holding something orange and yellow to his chest. Looking closer, it was feline in look. "Also, uh, someone gave me a...cat. Just dropped it in my kennel." he gestures at the scrap of a kitten attached to his chest. "Well lookit that, thats a tailypo good sir." the reptileish man chirped happily. "They're the third species released by the WELP corp, and they are having a gettogether bonfire. You should go talk to them about learning about your new cat." "Uh, this isn't..." "Well..." the receptionist scratched the scales on his jawline. "Tailypo have a rather high abandon rate among humans." 6

"Why" Kristofor didn't quite understand. Yes, he'd seen homeless cats and dogs occasionally venture into the woods, but nothing like this colorful cat. "Uh...I really don't know. But ask the WELP folks, they should be able to give your questions answers." He gestures at the flyer on the bulletin board. "Just keep hold on that cat of yours. I heard they're kinda wiggly." Wiggly huh, the fox thought as he regarded the message board. He patted the cat's tiny figure against his fur and found the directions. Thankfully it was written in multiple languages so he could understand it. Or jsut follow the people. Others were jabbering to each other. The bonfire night wasn't cold for Kristofor with his long fur, but the kitten that attached itself to him shivered in the cold. He wasn't a furnace, but the creature snuggled into his thick chest fur a bit deepr. It was warmer there. There there. 7

"Awww... what a cute baby..." a few people stood around an elevated 'nest' of sorts as the fox passed by. He glanced into the nest, and saw fluffballs. Correction, he saw fluffballs with what appeared to be an alien growing off their faces, and spadelike clawed paws. "This is that new thing that came out of those coal blocks right? Who would've guessed that moles lay coal." Moles? The hand sized fluffs sniffed around, crawling over each other and whatever came in their way. "Lindigs! They love to dig!" someone else read off the placard attached to the nest. "maybe I can make one go get diamonds out of the mines for me." "Or maybe it just digs straight to gold?" "Yeah right, there's no gold in that mountain." The others argued lightly over what a lindig could go find, but the creatures were too small in the fox's opinion to be much. The kitten against his fur turned its head nearly around to look into the nest too. 8

Boring. Not food. The kitten mewed and kneaded his chest again, prompting K to move around more. If he wasn't careful, the kitten might start checking if he were female and able to milk. which is a big fat NO. The catering wasn't far away, with food set aside for pets. Mostly in what looked like pellet form of varying shapes, colors and textures. "Need this?" a baby bottle got stuck in his face, half filled with a creamy colored milk? It was offered by a random stranger, a fluffy black and orange kitten clinging to their head, chewing on a piece of dried fish. "I just weaned my tailypo and came to donate some of my supplies." K glanced doubtfully at the bottle. "Oh no, this is fresh milk. I'm not mean enough to give someone dirty supplies. Tailypo have really finicky immunities when they're fresh hatched, and looking at your little fluff, needs food yesterday. 9

"...thank you" the fox finally managed to get out of his mouth. The random stranger's face lit up like a festival of lights tree as he took the bottle, and tried to catch the tiny orange kitten's attention. It didn't take five seconds before the kitten lunged for the food and latched onto the bottle sucker and started drinking. "Bottomless pits." the stranger watched the kitten in the fox's arms suckle happily. The luminous eyes of their own tailypo watching with interest. "I'd try to wean your kit in...eh, a few weeks. But they'll drink your storages dry, so might want to back up some formula. Human baby formula works just as well, I asked someone else." "I...heard these cats are abandoned?" he asked, looking unsure. And could clearly understand this stranger. Must be another one of those 'all languages thingies'. "Much needier then those birds released long ago and ten times as trouble causing. Honestly, I think its because the people believe that they're not what they seem." Kristofor had to ponder that as the fireworks over his head, silent to all but the dogs of the area, lit up over his head. 10 -fin- 2/2
