He’d heard rumors. Of course he had. Magic, apparently, actually existed. In a form here in the labs that you could hold and shape with your own hands, even if you didn’t have any innate magic yourself. He’d felt it in the crystals he’d gathered, he’d felt it on some of the people he’d passed by. He’d even felt it in some of the pets he’d met on his journeys. So it was the natural next step that he’d follow those rumors and do some research. He hadn’t exactly expected this to be at the end of his journey.
It was a temple. He guessed you could call it a temple. That much he had expected. Well, a temple. This one looked like it was a temple to worship some rogue god of death, but to each their own! He wasn’t judging!

Even if he was a bit nervous to be sacrificing a bit of his soul at a temple that looked like it would welcome his literal death. No matter! It was fine!
Kadin shifted a hand into his pockets, feeling the reassuring hum of magic from the crystals there as he gazed at some of the carvings near the base of the temple. Nothing to worry about. Sure. Now all he had to do was climb these steps and used all of the ingredients he’d brought with him to make a node. Sure. Nothing to it.
Taking in a deep breath and holding it for a moment, Kadin mounted the steps. There were a fucking lot of them. Each step brought him a new view of the, uh. Decorations of the place. Seriously, who’d designed all of this? Did it serve any purpose other than creeping out whoever came by?

Kadin paused and wrinkled his nose as he contemplated a particularly unclear spot, tilting his head to try and see if he could make out what end was the head and what end was the tail on the… snake? Chimera? He seriously couldn’t tell.
Maybe he was just delaying.
Scolding himself silently, he continued up on his way up the steps, determined not to fall into the trap of looking at all of the ‘decorative’ carvings and illustrations anymore. He wouldn’t get sucked in, he wouldn’t let them distract him from his goal. He was here for a reason. There was still and aftertaste of magic in the air here, one that had been built up over time. Ages. At least he knew he was in the right place. He just needed to make it up to the top, use his ingredients, and then get the hell out of here.

Finally, he made it to the top. It was just a beautiful as the rest of the god damn place. Kadin paused to eye the blood on the altar, trying to keep his expression neutral. He didn’t like this. It looked like someone had been killed here, even if he knew that it was only that way because of the build up of sacrifices over the years. He quickly did his best to shake himself out of it, yet again, and walked up to the altar to next contemplate the figures standing around it.
So this was where the party was, huh? Kadin got the distinct impression that literally no one was invited to it. Everyone just sort of crashed and hoped for the best.
The utter silent suited him, though. It’s not like he wanted to talk to any of them anyway. He just eyed them for a moment before walking the rest of the way up to the alter, looking down at it in contemplation.

He felt the crystals in his pockets one last time before pulling them out and laying them on the alter, fire crystals a mind crystal all. He paused for a moment, considering what to do next, before remembering the berry he’d also brought in a small pouch at his waist. Yeah, that’d probably be important to use. He took it out and ate it, not thinking about the burst of sweet that came before just… a good feeling. He was feeling better already. And, apparently, he’d need it. Time for the last bit. Kadin took up the dagger and drew a small line across his arm, sprinkling all of the ingredients with blood before kneeling, waiting for it all to be over. He was pretty sure he’d done everything correctly. The reassuring hum of magic from the fire crystals nearby soothed his mind as he waited to see if he actually had. What’s the worst the could happen if he did something wrong, after all? And at the end of this? He’d finally be able to learn magic of his own.
