Emery nodded politely at Acethylka before stepping further into the cave, shuffling her way through. So... finding a companion. If she was being honest, she had no clue what to look for. Not that there was much to see right now. Other than Acethylka, Emery hadn’t seen a single draconic yet, just endless expanses of stone. As she shuffled through however, she was pretty sure that she could hear activity up ahead. Perhaps some of the inhabitants of the rookery? She stepped closer, her cane clacking on the floor. As she peeked around the corner, she saw into the room. It was a wide, round basin with the bottom of it covered in soft, fresh straw. And in that straw, playing with each other, was a massive variety of hatchlings, also bounding about and playing with each other, they wrestled end over end and Emery couldn’t help but crack a smile at the sight.

A flash crossed her screen as she had a thought. Could one of these hatchlings be the partner she was looking for? She liked the idea of it, certainly. A brand new mind, fresh and ready to mold. A body young, free, and limber, so unlike her own. They could learn so much from each other- and perhaps Emery could contribute to their growth. With that in mind, she strode forward toward the hatchlings, ready to introduce herself. As she did so however, she finally took note of the older draconic standing against the walls. She figured that they were dwellers of the rookery that had grown up here, or volunteers from the canyons beyond. Either way, they seemed to be keeping a watchful eye on the hatchlings- and on Emery. Had someone tried to hurt them in the past? Perhaps. Based on what Emery had heard, it wasn’t unlikely.

Still, if anyone had ever hurt the draconics, you wouldn’t be able to tell from these hatchlings. The played without a care in the world, tumbling over each other, nipping at each other’s wings, and chattering in a language that Emery didn’t know. She probably should have researched draconic at least a little bit before coming here, but, well... she hadn’t gotten around to it. Still, she knelt and held a hand out to a nearby pink harian, letting the hatchling sniff her. She was worried at first that the baby would be afraid of her, but instead it chirped and reared up to play like any of the others. Soon it was running in circles around the woman, as if inviting her to play. Emery couldn’t really keep up- her injuries wouldn’t allow it- but she did sit and wiggle her cane at the hatchling, letting it play with it.

Perhaps that was a bad decision, however. That specific harian played nicely with her cane, chasing it from side to side and gnawing on it gently. As the little creature played however, it caught the attention of more hatchlings. A couple more came up to Emery, sniffing at her curiously. They were fearless despite the woman’s odd appearance, and appeared to want to get in on the game that was being played. Soon Emery had a couple hatchlings chasing her cane... and then a couple more. Soon, an enterprising lashak decided to skip the “chase” part entirely and win the game by going straight to the source. It nipped at Emery’s hand playfully, causing the woman to recoil and drop the cane on accident, not wanting any more damage to her hand. The young draconic took this as an opportunity to snatch the cane up, now playing a game of keep away.

“Ah... wait-“ Emery said, reaching out for her assistive device, but it was too late. The children had thoroughly latched on to it, bouncing away before playing tug of war. Emery struggled to get up and follow them, but it was difficult without the cane. Unfortunately, the other hatchlings still wanted to play as well. They climbed all over Emery, chirping curiously as they shoved her to the ground, rough and forceful in their innocent playfulness. They weren’t trying to hurt her, but a note of anxiety rose in her chest as another one climbed on top of her and she found herself too weak to push it away. “Uhm- help-“ she called weakly, not knowing if any of the adult draconics in the room even knew common. Apparently they didn’t need to though, as one- a green and yellow galathan- got up from its spot on the perimeter.

It gave a short, barking growl at the hatchlings, saying something in draconic. The little creatures looked at each other for a moment before scattering, dropping Emery’s cane with only a couple bite marks dug into the wood. The galathan kicked it back over to the human before repeating a similar phrase to the hatchlings covering Emery. They backed off reluctantly, tails tucked and faces guilty. “Oh... thank you.” Emery said, grabbing her cane and attempting to get up. She needn’t have tried to do that either however, as the galathan picked her up, gently grasping the nape of her coat in its fangs. Emery found herself too gobsmacked to say anything as she was dragged out of the room and through the halls. Eventually the galathan came to stand in front of Acethylka again. It said something in muffled draconic and Emery just hung there, covered in straw and dusty little footprints. “...It would appear that I am the one in need of a guardian.” Emery said, swinging slightly. “If you think this one wants to come with me...?” She said.
(All done!)

Acethylka was visibly amused by the spectacle before her. How unusual. She glanced at the draconic, and then gave Emery a warm smile, dipping her head in a nod. "I believe that would make them happy. Congratulations - go in peace, and love."

Something was calling to her. She followed thet tug of... whatever it was, guiding her through the mountains. She was, strangely, without a companion today. Her draconics went safe at 'home', most likely stretched out in the sun, soaking up some rays. She smiled at the thought of them, and felt the tug even harder this time. Someone was here, wanting to meet her! Eagerly, she picked up the pace, her feet cushioned in soft boots. She wished to go barefoot, but climbing on rocks made that idea less than enticing.
And then her path opened up into an oasis for dragon kin. Spread out before her were draconics of all breeds, all shapes and sizes and colors. Yes! Just what she wanted! To bring another family member home, and there must be the perfect one for her here, somewhere. Or else, why would she feel this way? As she made her way in to mingle, heads no doubt turning to see who the visitor was. She looked into each face that would turn toward her - such lovely creatures. The grown ones were impressive, but the babies! Oh, how absolutely adorable!

Twitching her tail, Acethylka nodded to the woman, "Hello, please make yourself comfortable and find your family in your own time."

Jinx turned toward the draconic that spoke to her, and she smiled at the warm greeting. "Thank you!" She said, admiring the beauty of Acethylka. She was quite unique here; in all of her time here, she had never seen another draconic that looked remotely like her! But she wasn't why Jinx had come here; she'd come to find her new friends! They would grow together, in her family, and have a forever home with her. She just had to find some babies that... liked her. That was how it worked, wasn't it? Forming bonds and all of that. She wandered further into the oasis, spotting groups of babies milling about. A few were curious, a few were a little more skittish. To make herself seem less scary, she dropped to her knees and sat on the ground, waiting for someone to get brave enough to approach her. She looked around, trying to catch the eye of a baby somewhere, feel something... Nothing so far, but she wasn't going to give up!
She was starting to get antsy, looking around with expectations. This would never do! She decided closing her eyes was the best way to go about this, forcing herself to relax. There was no rush... No one was after her here. She could just let destiny happen... Deep breaths.
And as she felt her body start to relax, she felt the tiniest of nudges on the side of her arm. She cracked an eye open to see who it was, and found it to be one of those cute fluffy green Draconics, with the wings.

"Why, hello there, little one!" Jinx said, perhaps a little too excitedly. The green baby looked startled and backed away a step, but the curiosity won out over its caution and it came right back, putting its front legs onto her knee, as if it was going to climb right up into her lap! Jinx risked it and moved her hand to the critter's back, stroking softly without letting him have second thoughts. He barely tensed, he was too interested in sniffing her and checking her out to see what she was about. Jinx chuckled softly and stroked his back - she got the feeling it was a he, but she hadn't checked yet - and scratched his ridges. His tail swept left and right, and he started making a thrum in his throat. It stopped when he got distracted again, then picked back up when Jinx moved her hand some more. He definitely seemed inquisitive! She was scratching him under his chin when she felt a nudge at her other side. She looked over and saw a Makiyan baby nuzzling against her, as if jealous that she was being left out of the fun. Jinx lifted her arm, her elbow, which opened up her lap to the Makiyan as well. She didn't know too much about this particular kind of Draconic, except that Ashe favored them, to the point where he had bonded with one. They must be pretty special, then, she thought. "There's room for two, don't worry! And no fighting!" The green one had seen the purple one and let out a hiss - Jinx wanted none of that on her lap!

"This is a friendship zone!" Jinx continued, her voice firm with authority, yet not harsh at all. A mother's tone, perhaps, a sound that said she was enforcing this out of love for these babies. They squeaked, pawing at each other and not quite ready to give up the squabble, and Jinx put her arms between them, using her elbows to keep them out of range of each other. "I'm serious!" she insisted. She waited for them to calm down a bit, then she removed her arms from the danger zone and inside wrapped them around the outsides of the babies, pulling them both into her lap and crushing them together in a big group hug. "Love each other! We are going to be a family, I have decided! I want you both to come home with me, if you will."
The Makiyan squirmed the most, not sure it was up for bear hugs like that, but the body was so tiny it couldn't pull free from Jinx's grasp. Eventually, it gave up and hung limply over her arm, looking around with curiosity and suspicion. The little green baby seemed to enjoy the attention and the tight hug, and seemed to burrow deeper into the embrace.

The Eidon thrummed softly, and she reached with her hand to rub its face, between its eyes and back over to behind its ears. She gently stroked its horns, too, admiring them.
When she was satisfied that they had become at least tolerant of each other, she loosened her hold on the babies and let them climb around on her lap. It wasn't too long before they started to play a game of tag, or hide and seek - it was a little hard to tell, since she wasn't involved in the actual game. They darted around her, up and over her, and the Makiyan even once jumped from the ground onto her shoulder, knocking her forward. She let out a startled yelp, then laughed and shook it off. These were adorable babies and she was this close to asking Acethylka if she could take a job here with "plays with babies all day" as her job description.
While they continued to play and use Jinx's body for various things, the woman noticed a third draconic hatchling inching closer to them. She seemed shy, but intrigued by the fact that everyone was playing and having fun. When she saw Jinx looking at her, she scurried away behind a rock, peeking out to see if it was still safe since she'd been caught. Jinx eagerly patted the ground next to her, trying to coax the baby over to her little group. When she didn't seem that eager to join, Jinx shifted herself using her arms to push off, and scoot across the rock toward the siamese-looking baby.

Jinx wasn’t completely sure what breed this was exactly. Ashe didn’t have this kind, and it didn’t look like any baby she had had at home, either. That ruled out Makiyan, Eidon (which she knew now from playing with the baby), Malavos, Lashak, Shalaya, and Naniyesh. Just how many species were there, she wondered. Maybe one day she would have some of each mixing about in her cave! She would like that. Given her past, some might wonder why dragons weren’t more traumatic for her, and she wouldn’t be able to answer any questions on the subject. They were just in her blood… Maybe this was why this new baby was reacting to her like this? She reached out to the new baby and held out her hand for it to sniff. The green and purple babies stopped playing when they noticed she was moving and turned to watch. She could almost feel their jealousy bubbling up! And just when she’d gotten the pair of them to settle down too. Jinx tried not to focus on them yet, she wanted to earn this other one’s trust enough to touch first.
”I’m not going to hurt you, little one. My name is Jinx. These two are my friends, don’t mind them. We were just playing some games, if you’d like you join us?” she offered. Watching, the brown baby inched closer and sniffed her hand. Its eyes met Jinx’s and they held for a few seconds. A few powerful seconds. Then it leaned forward and licked her finger.

The tan baby grew more confident when Jinx didn’t attack her at the touch. So this was a human, this was good! The baby crawled forward and nuzzled against Jinx’s hand, and Jinx flexed her fingers, scratching the back and sides of the little one’s heads. It thrummed in its throat, and Jinx gently coaxed it closer, figuring that would be easier than scooting herself, and two other draconics that were clinging to her knees and legs, further over. The baby shifted its weight in protest at first, then it allowed itself to be scooted and soon all three were in Jinx’s lap. Jinx stretched out her legs, spreading them as far as she could manage, so there would be room for all three to roam about. The Makiyan and the Eideon babies were on one side, comfortable with each other by now and even more so in the presence of a newcomer. They were bonded now for simply being together first. Jinx saw this distinction and frowned a bit, hoping they would manage to welcome the new baby into their friendship soon. Jinx tried to get them to mingle better by playing with them with her hands, batting away faces, grabbing muzzles (gently!) and attacking feet and bellies. The draconics play-snarled and leaped and clawed at her, making a grand display at play fighting. Jinx laughed at their antics and ignored the scratches building on her arms. She would deal with those later, they were just flesh wounds. But bonding with these guys was important.
