"I want to go." "Mori..." "Kadin. I want to go." "Mori, it's too dangerous." " Kadin." The harachiu looked at him with a gleam in her eyes, a stubbornness that he hadn't seen in her before. Kadin was pretty taken aback by that. He was about to try and argue some more, too, when she started up again. "If you try and leave me behind I'll just follow you. And no, you can't bring anything else. You'll have your weapons. I'll be with you and watch your back. I don't trust any of your other pets to watch your back and think for themselves, you know you don't have any trained enough for that. I'm coming with you and that's final." Fuck, she was really serious about this. And what was worse was that Kadin didn't have much of an argument to all of that. She chose her words well and wasn't afraid to argue with him. 1

He had a lot of trained pets, but none that were smart enough to be used as a look out, not against something dangerous like this. Mori had some good fucking points and he had to admit to that. He couldn't think of another reason not to bring her other than it was dangerous and she might get hurt, but the same was true for him or any other creature who came with him. Plus he didn't really want to bring any other big pets. He felt as if they'd just attract too much attention and that could be bad, especially if what they were going to fight was as dangerous as they thought it would be. He had his weapons, he had his magic. He could sneak through and take care of most of the problems by being stealthy. But did he really want to risk bringing Mori?
This was how they got here.

They were heading towards the gardens. Kadin walked with Mori towards the gardens. He still didn't like that she was coming but there wasn't anything that he could do to convince her otherwise. At this point the best thing he could do was just try to keep her and himself safe. He had with him swords and the node that he'd recently acquired so if anything dangerous came along he'd at least be able to defend himself. He had to trust Mori to know to keep out of the way if anything tried to come after them. After all she was very small and she didn't know any strong moves or abilities that would probably keep her from getting hurt if anything did decide to go after her. Kadin did not want that to happen. But like it had been said before there wasn't anything he could do to convince her otherwise.

So she was coming with him. They headed through the gardens in search of the garden that the fae had indicated. Kadin was fairly sure they would be able to see it by way of just seeing all the big and dangerous plants that they claimed would be in the garden. Mori was on high alert; she didn't want the human’s inattention to end up being his downfall. They'd been to the gardens many times before and they had traveled through them and done a lot of work there before but Kadin and never been the best at being aware of his surroundings and keeping from getting injured from something stupid when they were in the gardens. Mori it took it upon herself to be the one who is going to be keeping him safe. It was maybe a bit ironic that a small harachiu would be the one keeping a human safe.

But that's where they were right now. As they went through the gardens Kadin couldn't help but think about his own garden. It would be a lot easier if he just needed to find some plants or flowers that were there and bring those back for the fae. Unfortunately it seemed as if they really needed him to find some specific flowers in their garden and in order to get there he'd have to fight his way through all sorts of horrors. He wasn't really looking forward to that but he had accepted the commission so they were still going to go. They followed the directions that the fae had given them until they found a garden that seemed a little bit more overgrown than all the others. It even looks more overgrown and then Kadin’s garden and that was saying something considering he still hadn't had any of his plant creatures there full time.

You know, to maintain it for him and make sure it never looked like an overgrown horror like this one. They made their way into the garden cautiously looking around for all of these dangerous scary plants that were supposed to be here and guarding the place. It seemed pretty quiet other than the overgrown plants but Kadin knew better than to relax his guard. Mori would also probably kill him if he tried to relax his guard so they weren't going to do that just now. It was a bad idea. They walked into the garden slowly keeping an eye out in all directions for anything that might jump out onto it and attack them. “Remember,” Mori said. “These plant creatures are dangerous and aggressive. We have to keep an eye out. Don't lower your guard just because you can't see anything. They’re going to be plants. We probably won't see them coming.”

Kadin shrugged and said, “I know, I know.” He was keeping his guard up! But he still took Mori's words to heart and Kadin kept looking around in all directions. He did have a fire node with him and he knew of at least a couple of fire spells so it wasn't like he was completely defenseless against plants if they did decide to attack. He even had those swords with him, too! But it was always better safe than sorry especially on a quest as dangerous as this. Mori and Kadin continued into the garden looking around all over the place to see if they could see anything but nothing seemed to pop out of them just yet. It was almost making Kadin suspicious especially considering how dangerous the fae had made this all seen. But still nothing had attack them yet. Maybe they were just waiting for him to be in a false sense of security.

If that was the case it was going pretty well so far. He still couldn't see anything that looked like it was going to attack them. The further in they went the more nervous Mori was looking. She was probably thinking along the same lines as Kadin. The vicious plants that they were supposed to be fighting were just trying to lure them into a false sense of security by lying dormant. They’d continue to do so until they were too far in to make it to the exit if they needed to escape. Neither of them knew just how aggressive these plant creatures would end up being so it was best to keep an eye out and to be on their guard just in case anything did start to jump out at them. Luckily they still hadn’t run into anything dangerous and slowly, despite his best efforts, overtime Kadin's guard did start to lower a little bit.

Mori’s did not. She was on top of this. This was why she had come after all; she didn't want Kadin to end up dead just because he was a little bit inattentive sometimes. And one would think that someone like him, a fully grown person with his weapons and his magic, would be able to actually take care of himself but Mori knew better. She knew his memory loss made him vulnerable. He didn't know the full dangers of the labs even now, no matter how long he had been here at this point. At the end of the day, he didn't remember anything from before when he just came back. She needed to keep an eye on him and made sure that he stayed alive long enough that she could strike up on her own because she was confident that he wasn't just going to get himself killed or something stupid.

Of course, it was when Kadin was inattentive that something would come out after them. One moment they were walking along the lane with all the overgrown trees and bushes and other plants everywhere and nothing seemed to be out of place. It looked like they could have just been walking around in Kadin’s own garden with how overgrown everything was there. The next thing they knew some vines were moving, and they snagged around the human’s legs. Mori shouted out in surprise right before they started wrapping circles around Kadin. Kadin also shouted out, surprised and annoyed when he was suddenly tripped. He hit the ground hard, fumbling around for his sword and dagger even before he fully hit the ground. He needed to get out of there. He could feel the vines tightening around him and trying to drag him away to somewhere. He didn't want to find out where.

But all of a sudden Kadin finally remembered that he had fucking magic. Kadin fung out his hand and cast out with the first spell he could think of. Luckily, his node was fire, so all of his spells also shared that elemental property. The spell swept out and he hoped that it would burn them to the ground so that he could get free. The vines didn't seem to like his fire magic of course, so they slumped away. They were seemingly upset about it and reluctant to leave him alone. Now that he was free, he could finally take out his sword and dagger. He scrambled to his feet and took out his weapons, looking around a bit wildly as if he expected to get attacked again right away. Mori snorted. She could have told him that something like this would happen, but he had to just happen to relax his guard.

If he had been properly watching around and looking for danger, that wouldn't have happened. “I know, I know,” Kadin said. “You don't need to say anything. Especially not I told you so.”
At least he seemed aware of his own shortcomings.
Mori simply smiled at the human, which had Kadin looking away from her knowing eyes. She knew, and he knew. They both knew that this could have been prevented he had only been paying more attention. So as he asked, she wouldn't say anything. But what she did say was, “Just keep an eye out. There's going to be more of those out there, and I feel like we're going to find more the further in we go.”
Kadin nodded, acknowledging her advice. He decided to put his dagger way, but he kept his sword out, figuring that he'll probably need it sooner rather than later, if their current interaction was anything to go by.

And he was right. As he started walking down the path more and more things just seem to be appearing out of nowhere. It was like the garden had come alive. Kadin couldn't tell a normal plant apart from one of the plants that were trying to attack them. He was getting more and more worried about Mori especially since it would be so easy for her to get tangled up by these things. But seem like Mori was doing a good job of dodging out of the way by herself. She seemed to have this down which was better than can be said for him. His sword was getting covered in sappy substances in various bits of leaves and other things with plant juices. He was worried that it was actually going to start getting dull because he was having to use it to fend off so many plants.

But still they hadn't really run across any big plant monsters. And honestly? That was even more concerning. Nothing they had fought so far had been something that he would be very concerned about. From how it sounded originally when they got the quest Kadin have been half convinced they would come across from giant plant monsters that would really try to really fuck their shit up. But as it was mostly they've been tripped up by vines and branches magically appearing in their way and trying to hit them in the face. There were all sorts of minor inconveniences, but they hadn't come across anything big and scary just yet. Of course, he knew better than to say anything about that out loud. Once you said something it would make it a reality. So Kadin kept walking and trying to ignore the sensation at the back of his neck that was telling him that something bad was going to happen.

Of course even ignoring a problem was never a way to get it to go away. Eventually they were going to come across something dangerous. The next thing that they knew Kadin and Mori were coming across what look like it might have once been a dragonoak. But then it was swallowed up by acid and spit it back out again. Kadin cursed under his breath and Mori darted off to the sides to try to find a safe place while Kadin would have to fight this monster. The last thing she wanted to do was get in the way and make things more dangerous for Kadin. He pulled out his dagger and it with his dagger in one hand in the sword another he prepared to fight. The plant monster charging him with a bellow and he swung out with his sword trying to dodge out of the way at the same time.
