The quest board has a single, large banner on it right now. It looks like a bunch of youngsters have made it with crayon and it is laminated: "CULTURAL APPRECIATION MONTH!!!" Cultural Appreciation Month? What is that all about? Jolyne comes up with a few more decorations and nods to you. "You thinking about joining this month? I'm giving out QP to anyone willing ta do it." She says, sounding a bit stuffy. It seems like the cold weather has her a bit down! "Check inside for a flyer if ya want." She says, getting to work.
On the Board
In Order to Succeed, you have a few options for this month! Do one of the following to succeed!
(1) Teach a class about your (character's) culture! (2) Go about your usual day, showing us what your character does on a normal day that you wouldn't normally write. (3) Do whatever it is that your character does for their religion if they have one.
This quest will be rolled as per usual.
Prize: Questing Points are the prize for this month, no item.

I spent the night of turns sleeping off our adventure to the spooked estate. Just resting. Curled up in my blanket, it was warm and quiet, and the only reason to move about was to make sure Dawson and Mira had enough to eat and drink or to feed and water myself and nature calls. The water from the giant plastic barrel made ominous glugging noises when refilling dishes, expelling inward giant bubbles and such. Such a backwards place, why would they rely on non-drinkable water to run through pipes. It was still broken, but I could hear occasional bangs and such as someone followed the pipe along, spurned on by screeches and shrieks. The morning of November dawned and all I want to do is sleep some more. Being awake part of the night to keep Mira company from Dawson being insistent on playing, it didn't help much. She found a nook near my neck that felt warm and safe and away from dogs. She didn't appear to appreciate Dawson's insistence on playing. Yawning wide enough to nearly dislocate my jaws, stretching out.... ah. Flump... still warm, don't wanna get up.... But I can hear minute whines... which means Dawson is either hungry or needs outside. 1

I read once while in school that yawning temporarily increased the amount of oxygen you take in when breathing in. It makes you both tired and not tired at the same time. The minute whines are getting closer... and closer. A wet nose snuffles in my exposed ear. That can wake a fox up quickly. Cracking one eye open, I give Dawson the eye of 'really?' Oblivious to my reaction, the puppy whines again, putting his puppy jaws on my ear and tugging some. Ow ow, ear ear... Batting him away gently, I have no choice by to get up. Mira grumbles, sleepily clawing her way into staying put as I rise off the floor. Ugh, my spinal column appreciates beds, not hard concrete floors. Woof woof! Dawson is dancing around, back and forth, whining occasionally as his tail isn't wagging up a storm... but between his hind legs. Ah, yes. he needs out. Sooner then later out. Alright, alright, I'm awake; I tell him gently, the blanket falling way from my clothingless fox self. The shorts are more for interacting with the locals of the city vs anything else. I can go outside and water my dog without pants. Which is what I choose to do. Maybe even water the tree myself. 2

By this time, Dawson knows that running off doesn’t earn breakfast. He’ll venture, but return. I haven’t bothered to train him anything. Because... well he’s a hound. And I’m a fox. Would a hound listen to a fox? No idea. Its too early to think of htings like this. The kennel gate is just tall enough for me to reach without having to stand up and Dawson darts out onto the catwalk that surrounds the big opening of the atrium of the kennel. Its still the occasional carcomphany of angry owners yelling about the bad water quality. This problem hasn’t been fixed yet. I wonder why... The catwalk clatters loudly to puppy paws and puppy nails rushing towards the stairs before he stopped, staring down the rather steep incline. Oh right. Dawson had a thing about stairs. Now the question is, was he still small enough to pull this off. Coming up behind him, I reach down with my face, opening my jaws wide. Clamping down gently on the looser neck skin of the puppy. I haven’t tried this with Mira as she is a. Not a dog, and b. Just no. Just no. 3

Depending on the side of the river in the woods, we forest dwelling animal folk will either act more or act less like civilized people. Carrying the young around by the scruff occasionally when having troubles isn’t uncommon. Dawson gives a brief struggle against my grip as his paws leave the cold metal, but looking down at the stairs again, lets himself go limp to be carried. There’s enough muscle gripped in my mouth that it won’t hurt him but he can’t move far. Or would drop. Drops hurt from my height. I’m a moderate height of fox when I’m not standing upright. The stairs are definitely a trip to get down with having my head and neck craned so I can see the next step down and hold Dawson’s drifting rump off the steps. Occasionally the staircase trembles from something else making the whole catwalk shudder. One would think a public building would be in better shape then this. Upon reaching stable ground, Dawson’s scruff is released, plopping him on his butt on the ground. He’s up in an instant, shaking off being carried like a puppy and darts for hte door. GAIN WAY! 4

The kennel buildings main doors are already open to the public, likely to draw in any new residents, or to just let fresh air in. Because...the smell of animals is quite pungent. Potent. Hell, it stinks. the main floor isn’t so bad for the reception area I have to pass through, but likely because there’s fans running. Those big metal rotating blades that should push wind forward but these go in one way and out the back. What a curious contraption. From this distance, the faint sound of hissing is heard before it tapers off soundwise. Yes, definitely had to go. There were common people bathrooms here too. I waited just inside for the sounds to stop and the sounds of scuffing dirt, stretching out my spinal column in a wonderful full body stretch. You know, the kind that goes from the nose to the tail. The scrabbling sounds again and Dawson charges back inside to join me. He's gonna take the stairs going up this time, I decide. The catwalk's texture leaves indents in my paw pads. From the occasional trot about on fours, it is definitely easier on the body to walk down on two, up on four. After all, people can't do that. And I haven't tried having Mira with stairs. 5

"Oh good morning Mr. Silverfox." looking over, the receptionist desk is empty, but just entering the building was Kevin, the kind receptionist with the birdishness to her. "Taking your pup for an outing?" Well, I hadn't originally thought of it, but at the same time... 'Yes, I am going to take him for an outing. Is there a local butcher in the city?' I ask her, standing up to my full height gradually. Which makes my spine complain a bit. Ow. She thinks a moment, tapping one of those sharp fingers to her chin, then snaps her fingers together with a 'thwip' sound. "Yes, there's a local butchery. With all the carnivorous creatures being kept in this facility and out on the properties surrounding the city, they're kept pretty busy. Do you need to get some meat for your creatures?" I nod, gesturing down to the dancing puppy around my ankles, who keeps bouncing up on his hind legs to push on my knee. Going? Going! Going now? Now? "Ah. Yes, they should be able to get you all set up. Also, asking the local veterninarian in town about a solid diet for your houlou and your...panilla?" nod "Your panilla is a good idea." 6

Thanking her, I head out of the kennel, only to shield my eyes from the bright morning sun. Dawson bounds out the door after me, intent on catching the sole of my foot to do something with. Ok, that might be one thing to teach him. Is that "I" am not a chew toy. Nor is Mira, or any other thing that is alive and in my care. Perhaps I should invest in some toys for him. Guilty thought aside that a good chomping on a solid object does get the face a good amount of exercise (and a toothache). I have to shake my foot to avoid having puppy teeth latch in. Bark bark! He's clearly thrilled to pieces to go outside. Well, the kennel definitely isn't outside, and I agree with that. Perhaps thats why roaming the streets is more fun then laying about in my metal den and trying to sleep. Does not beat out a good sun nap under a pine tree. Or the old oak. Its a bit homesickly, that feeling. Once I've earned enough funding, perhaps finding a place with a big tree outside would be an excellent place to live? Dig out a den beneath for me, Mira and Dawson? 7

The one thing I didn't do before leaving the kennel... was ask directions to the butchery. Well... darn it. Follow your nose, my father told me, if I ever get lost. Our den is close to the river, where the water becomes less murky and smells more branchy. Its near the beaver's dam that has the branch with leaves sticking out on top. In this case, I'm looking for a building, in a sea of buildings and paths, and most of the smells are foreign. However, you can't miss the smell of blood and fresh meat. A brief thought crossed my mind of the 'master plan triple header' my uncle cooked up years ago ended up in... and that thought ends fast, because there went Dawson on a venturing. I have to keep an eye on him. The morning is still pretty early and not many humans or beasts are out on the streets. Would the butchery even be open? Sniffing the air, I caugth the smell of so many things. People. sweat. animal feed. animals. fear smell. excitement smell. the smell of 'offerings'. Ew. Panilla smell smelled better. and Mira smelled a bit dusty and bambooy. Woof! Dawson had paused near the corner of a street, looking back with a wagging tail and a bark again. 8

There's a small wooden building down the street from where Dawson is standing with an open stance, getting my attention with his barks before darting out of my reach towards the smelly building. The smell of fresh meat catches my nose. How do most animals not barge in there and rob the place? My stomach answers my nose, growling. Oh no, I'm not... growwwwwl. Ok, am a bit hungry. Those berries and meat squares were a while ago. Before he reaches the door, I catch up to capture Dawson aorund the middle and pick him up. He whines in my ear, trying to snatch at the loose fur growing off the side of my cheek with his paws. The building isn't built for tall humans, forcing me to duck with flattened ears. Its a small shop, and somewhat bigger on the inside. Its all wood, with some stonework on the counters. This place would definitely freak Mira out, but Dawson's all nose and ears, looking about with interest, his tail playing a tune practically against my body, its wagging that hard. "Allo allo alo, how can I' help ye today." A bulky figured... man... entered from the back, his apron a variety of colors of red ranging to brown, across the canvas. 9

"Don't get many foxes in m' shop. How can I help ye." the assumed butcher asks, wiping his almost dustbin sized hands on his dark canvas clothing. "Food for my houlou, and myself." I tell him in slightly practiced Common. "Please." "Not a frequent in a meat shop, are ye. We have lots of choices." the man jabs a sausage of a finger upwards to the swinging wooden sign, with lots of writing there. Lots of writing. Types of meat have pictures next to them. A deer. A pig. A sheep. A chicken. A cow? Even a giant fish. Was that a panilla?! "Most of our meats are from right here in the city, but if I get a lot of orders on certain types, gotta import, so that'll cost if you've a big order." the man tells me. He has a pad of paper and a pencil in his hands now, the pencil nearly as thick as a small branch. "I don't eat fowl, and I haven't tried offering him fish yet." I tell him, nodding to Dawson, who is trying ot pull my shedding fur free of my cheek. Ow, teeth. "Fox who don't eat fowl? I've heard everythin' now. We'll get ye' sorted." A typical day for me is Dawsons outing. 10 -fin
