Going to put training for pets here when the pets in question are tied up doing other things.

Donner was... well, not exactly eager to train again, but Fiera was running out of time. She still had a bunch of things he needed to know, and barely any time to train them in. “We’ve got this, ok Donner?” She said with a laugh, mostly trying to reassure herself. It wasn’t the tournament she was necessarily worried about- it was finishing this damn training in time! She had been working her butt off, but still he had plenty left to learn. Donner didn’t seem to be feeling it though, and had flopped on the ground lazily the second she turned her back after leading him into the fenced off training area. “Oh come on, Donner.” She said as she latched the gate behind them. “I saw you running around this morning, you can’t be THAT sleepy.” She said, but he only rolled over to face away from her in response.

“Oh come on, really?” Fiera groaned as Donner continued to ignore her, sweeping a stick closer to himself so he could gnaw on it while pointedly ignoring her. Fiera huffed and rolled her eyes. Fine. It gave her some time to get her bearings and make sure she had everything, at least. With Donner distracted, she set her bag down on the ground and started going through it. She had Donner’s treats, of course- some murp jerky. She used to train him with fresh meat, but after getting some very suspicious blood stains on some of her favorite shirts, she made the switch. The seeker didn’t seem to mind, however- meat was meat for him, at the end of the day. She also had her WATT and a set of speakers, but she wasn’t entirely sure if she’d need them for this. She was, after all, trying to teach Donner screech.

Screeching was a pretty standard thing to do in battle, all things considered. It made matches god awful to listen to- all sorts of roars and piercing squeals were usually pretty unfun to listen to from the perspective of the stands, but not many people other than Fiera seemed to be bothered by it. There was a reason these horrible noises were so ubiquitous however- making a loud enough sound had the chance of stunning ones opponent into a stupor, giving a valuable opening that had been the opening- and final- blow of a match. There was a pretty could chance that Donner wouldn’t be able to get through the competition without it. Luckily, Fiera knew he COULD screech. She had heard him make that noise on many occasions, usually in response to Fiera pissing him off in one way or another. It was a common noise for seeker, apparently.

She could also play recorded audio she had of seekers screeching in the hopes of working him up to doing it himself... but that might end up just freaking him out. Seekers weren’t very social after all, and she didn’t think Donner had ever even met any other members of his own species. So she’d start out trying to teach him by riling him up instead. That would probably get him in a “fighting” mindset anyway, making it easier for him to use that technique in battle. So first she’d have to try and find something that would upset him enough to make him screech at her. Poking him with a stick, maybe? That’d piss HER off, to stay the least. The humanish looked around, searching for something she could use. Unfortunately, there was only one stick that had fallen into this training area, and it was currently being chewed on by Donner.

Well, that was one way of getting him to screech. Fiera stuffed the bag of jerky in her jacket pocket and began sidling around Donner, looking for an opening. The seeker was so relaxed he didn’t even notice her approaching- until it was too late. As quick as she could, Fiera lunged forward, grabbing the stick in her pet’s mouth. She gripped the wood as hard as she could and yanked, hoping to dislodge it. As expected and hoped for, Donner was immediately upset. The snowtracker seeker’s eyes flew open and his jaws clamped down automatically, preventing Fiera from tugging the branch out more than a few inches. A low growl began emanating from his throat- close, but no cigar. Fiera had to try harder, unfortunately. As a result, she didn’t let up, pulling even harder on the branch to further upset him, not letting go for anything.

The growl kept growing in volume and pitch as Donner realized that Fiera was trying to challenge him (in his mind, at least). He scrabbled his feet against the ground until he was standing again, his former laziness forgotten completely. “Come on Donner, screech!” Fiera said, trying to set the command word. As she did, he finally replied with a high pitched scream of his own in reply. Just what she was looking for! He even let go of the branch on accident as he did so, causing Fiera to go stumbling backwards with a big smile on her face. “Oh, good screech!” Fiera complimented him, tossing the seeker a piece of jerky for his troubles. He growled at her again, his hackles still raised, but took the jerky regardless, darting forward to grab it. Fiera knew him well enough to know he’d never turn down a piece of food.

Once he ate it though, it was back to work. Now that he was all riled up, Fiera knew it wouldn’t be too hard to make him screech again- though doing it on command might take a bit of effort. So... she tried to poke him with a stick. Every time she jabbed forward he leapt back, giving a warning snarl. Every time she did this he’d get a little bit louder and a little bit louder, until finally he was screeching with each jab. Fiera was glad she had a whole stick’s length between them- she didn’t want to get close to those jaws with how angry he was right now. Now that he was screeching however, she tossed him a treat for each time he made the sound. After he finished eating, she’d go at him again with the stick, ducking at weaving in order to upset him.

After several rounds of this and repeating the command, Fiera backed off a bit to avoid stressing Donner out too much. He was panting with effort now, his sides heaving as he glared angrily at Fiera. She figured she was done with the stick now- it was time to see if he could screech on command now. She tossed the stick behind her and Donner immediately seemed to relax, his fur settling down some. “Ok Donner... screech!” She called, giving the new command a try. Donner tilted his head a little, as if trying to remember what that meant before opening his jaws and letting out a quiet, warbling screech. It... was not his best work, Fiera had to admit. But it was something! A nice start! And it certainly meant that he knew to make noise on command- she just needed him to build it up to the top volume she knew he was capable of.

“Good job, Donner!” She said eagerly, tossing him another piece of jerky. He quickly snapped it up and his fur relaxed even more, as if he was starting to understand what was actually going on here. She let him finish before giving them command again. “Screech, Donner!” She emphasized, and he seemed a lot more confident this time, letting the sound build up in his throat before rattling out, a long, irritating screech. Fiera had to admit, it hurt HER ears... but she still thought he could do better. Despite that however, she tossed him two pieces of jerky this time, increasing the reward for behavior closer to what she wanted. He hopped upon them even more eagerly, wolfing them down as quickly as he could, as if someone was going to steal them out from under him. By the time he finished he was looking at Fiera expectantly for her next command.

Well, she was more than happy to give it. “Donner, screech!” She called out, hoping for the best. And to her relief, Donner gave it. A rumbling in his throat started right away, building into a terrible, ear piercing, metallic screeching noise. Fiera couldn’t help but clap her hands around her ears, hissing to herself. That was enough to give any creature pause regardless of their size, and even she found herself stunned for a moment. Once she managed to shake some of the ringing out of her ears however, she looked down to find Donner sitting in front of her, eagerly awaiting his treat. She chuckled slightly as she tried to flick her ears to rid them of the tinnitus, the laugh coming out more as a cough than anything. But she still gave Donner his jerky and told him he did a good job- because that was absolutely what he’d need to do in the field of battle.
