The change of noise next to his ear told him that this branch was indeed something the little panilla liked to eat. Curiosity piked, Kristofor broke off another twig and let his arm drop, within range of the jackaroo. It paused, sniffing the air and turning around. Looking at the piece of a twig being offered by the fluffy yarn playmate's ...well, fluffy ride. She's up there, chomping away. -grumble- The jackaroo isn't one to blush, but swipes the branch out of the offered paw, acting very much like it does not want it, and pokes it into the edge of its mouth, making solitary chewing sounds. It wasn't spat out immediately, so maybe it was still good? The fox hadn't ever tried chewing wood to his memory; but if he had as a cub, that would likely be an embarrassing cubhood story for his family to tell the relations. 'We should come back here in the daytime. As much as I want to explore this, if I get my foot caught in something or you two get hurt, it would not look good to that person there.' He reasoned audibly to the creatures. Nothing but chewing sounds. Taking this as a yes, the fox and his companions went home for the night, to return in daylight hours. 14

Had to imagine though, what kind of apple tree grows that small..., Kristofor wondered to himself as he and the two creatures walked along in the darkness back to the kennels, his mind buzzing. He read of dwarfism in living things...must also apply to trees. The image of his uncle standing on a lone hill under an apple tree in wintertime, picking off the last of the fruit to have a snack pops up weirdly in his mind too. There must be a library here in the city, with this many humans about, and not so humans. Or animalfolk like him. Surprisingly passive with having a snack, the jackaroo nibbled on the twig absently as it hopped along beside the fox. Vaguely seeing the wisp of white fur tail brushing their shoulders up high like that as the panilla, the fluffy playmate of yarn, ate her own twig with vigor. Must be hungry too. But if they weren't eating, might be seeing more detail in the looks around the area in the dark that it'd not seen in its initial fleeing of the kennel. He had some sticks of bamboo and branches made up as a little wrap for the two creatures once returned to the kennel and their own areas, finally repaired once the lights came back on from earlier that week. Well, the jackaroo wasn't going to starve. Thats for sure. -end nightvision?- 15

Are bones still a good source of calcium when they're fossilized? No? They're ROCK? Huh. Better make sure it doesn't chew on that next.

As he'd finished the showing off routine with his houlou, the fox noticed a very green banner posted up. Gardening show. Show off what your pet can do to help you with the garden. Literally any creature, depending, could work in a garden. Especially the overgrown space behind the apartment. Who would work best for that? Kristofor let the thought tumble about in his head as he returned back to his 'not-metal-den', opening the door to his home. Mira practically flew into him, scrambling up his furry body to take shelter up on her perch of his shoulder, something bouncing along as she clambered awkwardly. On the ground, the floor bounced briefly as the jackaroo hopped forth, with a twisted yarn ball in its paws. Were they playing together? Probably; the closet that held the box of toys and supplies received for helping during the pet appreciation week stood open, the toys everywhere. Concern. Crossing past Sirius, the fox inspected the door's integrity; it was the only door in the room, everything else was gates, except for the front door which the landlord steadfastly requested to keep. Well, he could handle opening doors without issue, it was everything else in his care. start hold/drop 16

It wasn't kicked in, but there were a few nail marks from trying to wedge it open with little fingers. The fox glanced at the panilla who settled on his shoulder, with some confidence he'd not seen previously; maybe because she felt safe around her fox friend? Glanced at the jackaroo, who also had a yarn ball, but didn't act guilty or anything; what had he to be guilty of anyhow; not like Sirius appeared to care about what the fox did or made noise about. Didn't like being stolen from he'd learned. What these two needed probably was exercise. Something to exercise their brains. Thats what Kristofor decided. He got up, picked up his pack set aside for taking creatures down and out with him to the garden out back and started for the door. Wheek wheek! Come come! Mira calls shrilly at the jackaroo, whatever she has bunched in her little pannie fist bouncing against the fox's shoulder. A moment of decision before the jackaroo hopped after them, with less force then initially. A brief thought. Had he jumped hard enough to jar the latch of the cabinet closet thing open? If so, thats pretty darn impressive. Now at the garden, he opened the gate for them and the jackaroo hops right past him as the gate closes behind. 17

'Ok Mira, time to get off for a bit.' Mira doesn't struggle too much when the padded grip of her fox picks her off his shoulder and puts her down on the nearest hard adn tall object, which turns out to be what might be a table underneath all the leaf rubbish. Messy! The panilla swishes her tail in an arc around her, still holding her tiny thing which is a yarn ball on a rope and tries to make space to stand that wasn't in dusty ick. Sirius sidestepped the mess that scattered off the surface, his nose wrinkling. 'You can put the toy down now.' the fox chided her a bit while watching her dust the table. Although it had seen much better days, the cores of its structure 'looked' to be relatively solid, but the fox wasn't interested in trying his weight. She paused in the dusting, as the toy is starting to get a bit dirty. 'Want a stick instead?' The apple tree still stood barren, although spring appeared in full flourish, so he broke off a twig, and offered it to the panilla. She looked at it for a moment before taking the stick, but still holding onto the toy. 'Well, thats a start. Can I have the toy?' he asked the panilla, fully aware that all she heard were fox sounds. 18

The panilla gives him a look as she's dusting, and doesn't release the toy, as she holds the stick tightly too. No, you an't have stick back. 's my stick now. But she is holding it, and thats the behavior he wants. The fox fishes out the little box of raisins, poking one onto his index claw before offering it to Mira. Now she had to decide which piece she would drop to take the raisin! Offering his paw, Kristofor waited. Mira didn't want to let go of either... but having her face full of raisin wasn't promising. Finally, reluctantly, she let the yarn ball's leash drop from her paw, and took the raisin. Kristofor didn't pounce on the toy, but nodded instead, his free paw carefully petting the panilla's back. 'Thats a good girl.' All he could hear was the rapid fire nibbling noises of rodent teeth eating through the treat. Raisins are small enough that she could hold that without problems with one paw. Perhaps to try something held with both paws next? The sound of a small sneeze by his side caught the fox's attention as he watched Mira eating. Well, this table was Sirius' size apparently? His nose literally resting on the edge without standing on his toes. Was he watching? 19

'Do you see what Mira's doing?' he asks the creature, who doesn't give him a second glance but is watching her. and that yarn ball. Aha... that was the reason of the pursuit. Although the panilla trusted her fox now, it didn't feel smart to just up and take her toy without giving her a lot of other choices of things to hold onto. Pockets... pockets... Kristofor looked to find something else to hold and swap. It didn't have to be big.... had a stick, had a raisin, what about a ring? There was enough grass around to make a small ringlet to hold onto... yeah he'd do that. Turning away briefly, the fox pulled up a few weeds with long thin leaves that didn't make him sprout into itches, thank goodness. The leaves were bendy and didn't rip on first twist. With careful paw-fingers, he made a pair of ringlets, one small, one larger. Because he wanted to test this on Sirius too, who could handle more weight if the rabbit with a skin condition' paws worked like his. Those paws presently thumb-hooked like some sort of school thug on the edge of his belly, staring down what the fox was making. 20

'One for you' he offered the larger grass ring for Sirius, and the other kept underpaw for when Mira had finished her raisin. The jackaroo's pale aqua colored eyes glanced at the black and ...yellow fox. What gives? The ring in his paw touchs 'his' paw, and the fox seems extatic, and puts a piece of dried fruit on the table for him to take. It was there, and not offered. 'Thats a good job. Take your time, I am in no rush.' Sirius' tail brushes the leaf and bounty strewn ground as he unhooks one paw from his belly pouch and takes the snack offered. Thats considered holding something? Not really. 'And one for you' the fox's attention turns back to the yarn playmate, offering her a little grass woven ring. The nibblign stopped of licking her paw clean of sticky raisin, looking at the ring. For me? Wheek? unsure, they stalemated for a few minutes, waiting. Finally, she reaches out, and pokes the ring with her paw before quickly picking up her yarn ball leash again. The fox nods his approval of at least taking note of the ring itself, and gives her a new treat, a few pieces of rolled oat. Seriously, this stuff is small pickings. 21

She had to decide now. If wanting snack, had to put something down. Between the two, she put down the stick after several minutes. The fox nods his approval and gives her more treat? Was it good to put things down? Mira wheeked softly as she picked up the piece of rolled oat to eat. It tasted like brakfast; grainy and nutty and kinda good. She's stopped sweeping by now, and stands there, with the stick by her feet and still holding onto the yarn ball. What he wants to stress to the creatures as he offers the rings again once the snacks are finished is that Kristofor isnt' going to automatically steal whatever they had dropped. Did he want the yarn ball in Mira's paw? yes. Was he going to take it by force? NO. The oat piece finished, the panilla sniffs the ring, then pokes it, and picks up the stick instead. Well, its a start. She's holding something else. Nodding his approval, the fox rewarded her again. But wants to get moving towards what he wants her to hold and drop instead. The jackaroo's ear twitches down his back. The ring offered is touched to his paw again, and given a treat. Did he want to hold it? Hmmm. Not yet. Snacks better. And small. REALLY SMALL. 22

In his head, Kristofor imagined being able to offer an item to whichever rodent, and have them give him whatever they had instead, to retain holding until offered or they got bored and put it down. Or away even... was this possible? Don't get carried away with your ideas. These are rodents. Rabbit and chinchilla. They do waht rodents can do. But rabbits can't hold something bigger then a carrot, can they? He repeated offering the ring to the panilla. This time he waited, hoping she would take it rather then just poke it and get rewarded for its presence. Take the ring, thats what you want to do... he tried to will in his head. But neither he nor the panilla were going to be able to suddenly understand each other. One minute, two minutes... five full minutes passed before she slowly reaches out, and takes hold of the ring. It takes a lot of effort not to smile with teeth at her, because he's so proud at this very moment, and releases the ring. It hangs straight for a moment before dropping and hanging from her paw. Its like a key ring size thing. The fox smiles and puts out more snacks on the table. Now she has to decide waht to drop again. Sirius is watching this, just watching. But learning he hoped. 23

How big did he reckon she could handle. She put the ring down and ate her reward with quick chewing motions. Then found herself offered the stick. A stick? Looking down, both panilla and jackaroo (he hoped) noticed the original stick...twig that was there was still there. he had not stolen anything from them. But had an offered paw. Waiting. Was this a trade? Mira looked from the offered paw with stick, to the paw se had with the ball. 'Trade' he makes noise at her. A few minutes pass again before she finally reachs to grip the colorful yarn ball by its coloring and pick it up, its about the size of a small grown apple, and put it in his paw, allowing the black lead on it to slip off her paw. The fox nods, repeats the noise and gives her the stick, and more oats. The panilla picks up the stick, it leaning against her furry body as she eats the oats. Stick! she wheeks around the food at yarn ball friend. But an idea comes. Sirius has decided he wants that stick. He wants HER stick. But she wants something to. This ball. He has to stand on his toes to put it on the table, but puts the yarn ball he'd been holding on the table between them, then makes a similar 'wheek' sound at the stick in her paws. 24

The long fingers of the jackaroo nudge the ball forward till it touches the dusty tail of his playmate. Before wheeking and pointing at her stick. He wants that stick. A bit of curious soft wheeking before she walks forward a bit, and puts the stick down but reaches out to take the yarn ball. His fingers retreat from the ball, and pick up the stick, and she backs up with the ball now. The trade made, the jackaroo's muzzle curls in satisfaction as he takes the stick and sticks it between his teeth, hooking his thumbish claws on his belly again. Stick for yarn ball huh. That gave the fox an idea. He waits and then puts out treats for them both. Turning his attention to Sirius, the fox offers his ring again. 'Trade' The aqua eyes look at him, look at the ring, and then as if he could care less, puts his paw out to hook onto the ring. Kristofor makes to leave his fingers from the ring, and its held in Sirius' claws now. The fox is proud, and puts out the food again, but before he can take it, its either other paw, or give back the ring. The yarn ball, the one with the lead, is now offered, 'trade' and reluctantly... swapped for the grass ring. 25

Joy. WIthout really thinking about it, Mira's tail sweeps around her again to perk up behind like some sort of enlarged squirrel. It does that... twitchy forth and back motion once or twice as she nibbles on the pieces of oats given to her. But she's watching the fox and yarn playmate swap things back and forth. wheek! Good job! Whatever he was doing, made the fox give treats. She wasn't entirely used to the treat giving, but it made him happy to hve them taking things from him? That didn't make a whole lot of sense. Intrigue. He turns back to her, and offers up something else. Question? Did he want her ball? What he had looked like shiny. Er, sort of shiny. The shiny is offered, and she thinks a minute. 'Trade' Then takes it. Its heavy enough to need both paws to hold the small cold object with edges. The panilla in response nudges the yarn ball at her feet forward into the fox's waiting paw. Pleased. Happy. He picks up the little ring after a minute, she trades it back when he makes the strange bark noise. 'trade'. Turning back and trading Sirius the yarn ball for his own bigger ring. 26

The two creatures were getting the hang of doing the swap of holding and replacing their items, also known as dropping them pretty quickly, in Kristofor's point of view. What he didn't account for was spending all day with this project and the sun was going down. Only the rich colors of gold and red spreading slowly down the foliage around them told him he'd reached sunset without... without even having lunch. His stomach wasn't complaining yet, as he fished in his own pile of snacks for the two and took out a dried apple ring to chew on for himself. Better something then nothing. Below the table would get darker then the top, so why not see how well the two's night vision had acclimatised. Wheek? Interest? The panilla clung to the edge of the table as she watched him, her tail doing that squirrel thing of flicking back and forth again. He offers his open palm to her and Mira carefully steps into it. He deposits her on the ground next to Sirius, who's holding the yarn ball with a bit of curiosity. It was getting dark; and darkness was not scary anymore. 'trade?' the fox picks up the yarn ball with a lead, and Mira's grass ring. Blinking once or twice, they slowly offered towards the darker but getting clearer paw. 27 (review for nightvision)
