CALLING THE TRUTH-SEEKERS

Please listen, my fellow seekers of the truth. I can no longer stay silent as this lie grows and warps the very fabric of our wonderful home. The liars may try to stop me, to keep us all deluded, but I have researched and studied and read the best papers on the subject. Quick, before they silence me, I must tell you what I have learned. The horrible truth I have discovered and that our foes wish to keep hidden away. Hear me out! Please!
Tat-Lungs are just salamanders.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Salamanders? But they look so majestic! And they can fly! And have you seen those fancy manes?
Well, sadly, they're all lies.
Evidence #1: Dragons do not grow from fish.
Now, I know this is a magical world where many things can and have happened. Some fish learned magic and could fly, some fossils have led to the revival of ancient and great beasts, but one thing makes little sense. The tat-lung growth cycle.
They start off as tiny fish, and grow into larger fish, all the while breathing water as fish do. You know what can't breathe underwater? Mammals. There is no known mammal that can breath underwater, but those scientists in the labs would have us believe that some fish magically turned into mammals without any warning? Heck, the labs themselves can't even breed the damned things anymore unless it's for a crossbreed, claiming they are far too magical. This is the same place that made the amphadron, incredibly intelligent and magical creatures that grew from little fish-like tadpoles, and that the labs had no issues breeding in the normal way.
Evidence #2: Eye color changes.
But, you might cry, maybe the tat-lung are a special case. Maybe they are mammals that are so magical the labs cannot touch them anymore , who just so happen to grow out of being fish. I mean, I keep the same colors, right?
Wrong.
Yes, they were clever. They did not dare change everything about their appearance, relying on color alone to show that they were the same things as before. But they made one mistake.
Tell me, tat-lung owners, what is the eye color of your beloved's eyes? A rich green, an amazing blue, maybe a yellow so pale that it could be mistaken for white? They have such wonderful and unique colors for eyes, and how lucky they are that it works so well with their hides.
But wait, what was the eye color when it was younger?
The draconics are many races of dragons, true dragons. They were not born from any test tube. Indeed, the entire canyon would be closed to any who dared to use a draconic's blood in any lab-related experiment. Yet the tat-lung are free to do so, and they were forced to make their own breeding nests as the draconics would never let them near.
But, the fools say, dragon is in the name. Lung means dragon, as I admited earlier, so they must be some breed of dragon.
And to them I ask of another word that means dragon. A word that comes not from over the sea, but from those who dwell on this great continent with us. The ssashirk have a word for dragons, and that word is one that is well known and used by all lab inhabitants. Sarane.
Would you claim the stupid fighting hounds that are thrown into the pits to kill and die for the amusement of their owners are true dragons based on the name alone? Do you think those in the canyons feel even a hint of kinsmenship with the creatures that are bred and bloodied without any hint of remorse? How about the wolf dragons, those rakai-sarane, with their hearts of magic torn out by magicians, or their cousins the pasha-sarane?
Although this one does kind of look like a worm...
And I, we, laugh at them. For we have gathered evidence proving that we were in the right, stories from witnesses and images to illustrate the truth.
Here are images described by those who have seen the beasts without their makeup or full disguises, who have long since fled to avoid being silenced forever:
And here are images made from those who have described to us having caught their tat-lung in the process of disguising their true natures, revealing such things as how their toes change in number or how they actually could fly. Naturally, the true reason one cannot ride on them is that the rider would feel the heat from the jetpack hidden beneath their costume.
And for those who thing these are all poorly made pieces of art made by a deluded fool, this says otherwise!
Tat-Lungs are just salamanders.

They are lying to us. They can't do the breedings, because the 'tat-lung' won't allow it. They cannot allow their cover to be blown.
You know what has a fishy life stage? Salamanders.
Evidence #2: Eye color changes.
But, you might cry, maybe the tat-lung are a special case. Maybe they are mammals that are so magical the labs cannot touch them anymore , who just so happen to grow out of being fish. I mean, I keep the same colors, right?

But wait, what was the eye color when it was younger?
They thought so little of us that not one single tat-lung bothered to hide what they had done completely. Whether out of vanity or to better laugh about us behind our backs, they all decided to wear colored contacts. Go ahead, have a look. Not one of them decided to keep their old eye color on display. The lapis and the agate both wear contact that lighten their eyes, changing them from a duller color to golden tones. And others, such as the pearl and coral, changed their eye colors so completely that no one could explain how they went from brown to blue. But we were too enamored by the possibility of having a dragon outside the canyon to see it.
A silver breed wearing contacts.
Evidence #3: The name.
Even the name is a laugh to them. In some languages beyond the sea, lung is taken to mean dragon. But tat, tat means tasteless or shoddy, a mere imitation of something great. In this they tweak our noses, knowing that they are just tawdry imitations of the fine beings living in the mighty canyons.
Does this look like a dragon to you?
Evidence #4: No more dragon than our other 'dragons'
Now the naysayers will shout even louder, and so we must be even more clear.

Names mean little in the labs. Imagine mistaking a wiurn for a little wiggling worm.
Evidence #5: Picture proof.
But, they shriek and wail, you have no PROOF. THERE IS NOTHING TO SHOW US THAT WE WERE THE BLIND FOOLS!And I, we, laugh at them. For we have gathered evidence proving that we were in the right, stories from witnesses and images to illustrate the truth.
Here are images described by those who have seen the beasts without their makeup or full disguises, who have long since fled to avoid being silenced forever:

Everything other than their noodleness is a lie.
And for those who thing these are all poorly made pieces of art made by a deluded fool, this says otherwise!
