Jack was excited, another Houluh breeding was about to happen! She loved her Houluh she was breeding as well, Red was a pretty good pup all around, and he was definitely a canine, he loved mud and all things dirty. He stomped around beside her though, as she walked toward the Breeding Center with him beside her. She had told him no puddles this time, even though it was misting outside and there were a few puddles around. He couldn't play in what he was excited about at this point, but he figured new pups would be interesting as well. The others had been great at least! There, he was starting to prance a little as he went along, excited about the thought of new pups and wondering what was going to happen in the future with them. One of them was already grown and had pups of her own, he was a grandpa! Red barked as they reached the Breeding Center and looked for a Matronne as Jack ushered him inside.

There is such a thing as selective reading. It totally exists. Kristofor saw the flyer, and the large amount of dogs listed and it read (to him) "Meet my Patronne! Pick a dog and bring your Matronne for a fun afternoon romp." The red animal with splotches took the win on the salonne contest, but to his surprise, Dawson had placed third. He'd done something right. Turns out, those salonne shows were frequent, and practice would make perfect. Perhaps the owner of said patronne animal could give him a tip or two on what he could do? The houlou didn't initially seem in favor of going out; it was misty and unlike some animals, he wasn't a puddle jumper. Probably because Kristofor hadn't been outside in the rain with him to let him try. His fox friend's 'rain, disappoint' translated as a slightly less happy matronne, but they had to sprint in the rain to get to the 'breeders center'. Weird name for a dog park? 2/20

Yawning a little, the woman started to fill out her paperwork as Red watched the door, wagging his tail as he waited to see if he could spot a Matronne. As she was finishing up the paperwork, he barked and pawed at her leg, whining a little when she didn't answer immediately. There was a Matronne out there, he could smell it! The woman chuckled and patted him on the head, the ring she wore giving her much more information than she wanted to when he started to jabber a little. Apparently the Matronne was lovely and brown, and there was a person with the Matronne that looked a lot like them! The woman turned and leaned her back on the counter as she waited for them to enter, curious as to what they would breed with this time. Already Red had given her two very red pups, though she supposed Holmes was half white.

POOF The fox's fur, damp from the rain, puffed out with the entrance into the center. He reached for the pile of towels and led himself and Dawson over to an edge of the waiting froom to dry themselves off. New smells? Wet dog. Ew. Wet fox, also ew. Dawson snuffled as the fox, his own fur puffy and standing on end in quilled portions, rubbed a towel over his head and around his body. Wasn't Dawson lucky to have such short and easy to maitenence fur. The towel for him pulled away with stray hunks of blonde and he took a moment to pull those free and then drop the now quite damp towel in the laundry bin. Dawson shook himself from nose to tail, his ears slapping his face and neck with the movement. Looking around, this place looked like the inside of the kennel. Small, with chairs and a few humans with creatures; mostly rabbit smelling or such. However there was a person at the counter, with a familiar red animal. This was the person, right? 'You're the one with the flyer for meeting a patronne?' he asks. 4/20

Jack smiled brightly and nodded as Red furiously wagged his tail, "Yeah, you're Kristofor right? Came in third at the Salonne with... Dawson?" She tilted her head a little as she looked at the Matronne and noticed something odd and familiar. Was the Matronne a he? Red had bred with a male Matronne before, there hadn't been any complications, but it was strange that it only happened to Red so far, and she let out a little chuckle. Motioning toward the paperwork, she continued, "Have some of the paperwork filled out, but we need Dawson's information still, I didn't know what to put." Patting Red on the head, she finally nodded to the loudly complaining Houluh and he raced over to Dawson to try and figure out what this was exactly, and how to go about befriending them. He knew the other Houluh from the Salonne, but he hadn't really met him...

He nods. 'Yes. My...our first try of Salonne. I have not shown an animal before this, so its a new experience.' Kristofor joins the person at the counter and takes up one of the pens a bit awkwardly. He's got enough Common script memorized to understand he needed his name and apparently Dawson's show name? Why sign up for a dog park with a show name. Adults only perhaps? A few awkward scribbles and the fox replaces the pen to the jar on the counter. 'I haven't been to a park where I need to register first.' he voices a bit awkwardly. Dawson skulks about his fox friend's legs as he speaks fox to the human there, until the red animal comes up to him with a wagging tail. Uh... A bit cautious, Dawson sniffs at the other houlou with mild interest. He has never met another houlou in his own memory besides the smells and sights of previous. 6/20

Jack raised an eyebrow at that. She thought her ad was pretty clear, come to the Breeding Center, breed with my Houluh, and get a pup. This was... huh. "You know I thought it was pretty clear but maybe not. It's a breeding center, they're going to have pups. If you want to back out, please do. If you didn't understand the ad though, you really should have contacted me and I would have explained a little better," the woman said with a frown. She looked at Red and motioned him back just in case, which resulted in a whine and the Houluh slinking back to her, laying down and putting his head on his forepaws as he stared at Dawson for a moment or two. He looked away after a bit and sighed, wondering if this whole thing wasn't going to happen now, the woman seemed a little upset and he didn't blame her from what he had heard so far.

Wait. Something must've skipped with reading that ad. The red houlou smelled male to him. Uh... wait. How could two males have pups? 'Males can't have pups together...' the fox says to himself before crouching down on fours. Attention? Dawson sat down when prompted, and had his front legs tapped slightly apart. Surprise? Why was fox friend looking at his belly? The houlou got up and rounded about him, avoiding letting fox friend see what he probably wanted to find out, and going over to the new friend, who had been called over. The other spoke like Dawson barked. Hello! Wagging his tail, Dawson paused within smelling distance of the red animal. 'I never found out officially what Dawson is; never checked as a pup, I have no other dogs so it wasn't a concern...' it sounded like poor pet keeping now that it was out of his mouth... 'I've always called Dawson a he. What should I do? Males can't have pups together of natural means.' 8/20

Her eyes bugged for a moment as she thought about it and listened to him. He didn't know about Houluh genders too well huh? Well... she could explain. "Just because of their sex, biologically male or female, doesn't mean that's their gender. They can be biologically a female and be gendered male. Red's bred with a male Matronne before, it didn't cause any issues at all," Jack tried to soothe the fox for a moment, reaching out to touch him on the shoulder, trying to ground him a little after the shock of it had hit him so hard. She hoped this would still go through, but she didn't know if it would. If it didn't, no harm no foul, they would head home and try again. "Do you still want to do this or is it something you'd rather avoid at this point? I can understand if you don't want to go through with it," she told him with what she hoped was a kind smile.

He tried. He really tried to wrap his head about it; that Dawson could be considered female even though called male? What?! No issues? He felt shocked by it all. Majorly shocked. Dawson turned away from the red animal, coming back to fox friend's side. He leaned his weight against fox friend's top legs. Sad? Comfort. Fox good. Dawson good. He looked at the fox, and the fox looked at him. Unease? Be happy! He wagged his tail again. 'Do you want to do this?' the fox asked his companion. Woof. Dawson licked his snout, making Kristofor recoil briefly at being licked right on the nose. Blech. His tail wagged happily. Yes! Know new friend! 'Dawson wants to go forth, so I suppose I'll get my head around it.' he finally says to the other owner. 'I assume that there is nothing we need to do but hang about and wait?' 10/20

Stroking Red's back, she smiled a little and nodded her head, "Okay, that sounds good. It's kind of odd, considering no other animal does this, but it'll work out in the end, you'll see." She looked down at Red and smiled at him as well, patting his head before the attendant came over to get them, "Looks like a room is ready, come on." Walking down the hallway, she opened the door and motioned for the other three to enter before her. She felt a little weird about this now that she knew the fox wasn't too sure about things, but... if he said it was alright, then it was alright she supposed. She had a feeling they were going to have black pups though, breaking Red's streak, but that wasn't going to worry her too much at this point. Ah well, it would happen if it happened, and she was sure she would like the pups no matter what happened.

No other animal does this, well. Isn't that the truth. The fox figured dwelling on this very unusual new fact he'd learned here in the city would do nothing then give him a headache. Dawson sneezed and gave him a friendly little headbutt in the shoulder before he stood up. Dont' worry, be happy! His ear perked a bit when the other spoke, the other who looked not fox, but spoke dog? Dawson looked at the red animal with curiosity. Why is your owner barking?, he wondered with a little 'woof' at the other. The other owner mentioned coming along, and as fox friend went, Dawson would follow. His stomach felt a little wiggly but not in a bad way. He liked meeting new, but fox friend had an air of caution about him. Besides, what did she mean on 'breeding' anyhow? He had no idea, but it sounded like an activity! 'I did have a question for you on what sorts of shows Salonne are. Dawson enjoyed going there, but I'm not sure he knows fully what we were doing. Or what I was doing' 12/20

Red barked at Dawson, telling him it was the ring she wore! He wagged his tail furiously and panted happily, tongue lolling out as he bounded into the room and then went down into a play stance, it was weird getting used to it, but hey, it worked out and he enjoyed talking to the woman, as did all the other Houluh in the Kennel. Dawson could get used to it too, he barked happily. Yes, change the subject, that was honestly a good idea, Jack figured as she took a seat in the room, "Well you must have done something right to get third place in this one!" Jack tapped her chin a little and thought about it, it really had been good for the first one. "Okay, what questions do you have? I'll try to answer as best as I can," she finally told him as well, nodding and looking at him.

Ring? Dawson tilted his movement slightly to get a look at the other houlou's owner's hand. Sure enough, something glittered there. If Dawson understood the significance of paw decoration, he might have barked back that it was pretty. The other went down into a play stance, and he mirrored that, his butt practically waving back and forth. Play now? Woof! In the edge of the room, he smelled something, that had a variety of smells. Lets look at this! he trots over to the box, and smells it. The scents are pretty old, and starting to fade on who or what picked these toys to play with, as he noses through and finds a slightly tattered pull rope. Gripping it in his teeth, the houlou pulls out his prize and drops it between them. Tug? 'I suppose. Humans telling their animals verbally what to do has never made sense to me, I use hand signals.' the fox explained. The tiles under his paws felt unusual but then it was grass? Why was there a grass room inside a building? The grass felt prickly to the touch. 'What sort of salonnes are there?' 14/20
