Truth be told, Lethalia was almost certainly one of the vendors at the meat market. What had started as merely trying to feed the insatable pseudo dragons turned into an entire business model, excess meat to sell and extra hides to tan and work. There was more credits to be had than expected selling at the meat market - for all people had to be aware where meat was sourced in the city, they were willing to spend credit rather than acknowledge what had to be done. Renathan didn't seem blind to the ways of this place, like most of her customers. Perhaps they had hope the meat was grown in containers in some sterile lab rather than the dingy shack in the back of her property. She was only selectively a bleeding heart. Upon seeing her prince charming approach, Romy kicked up her heels and twisted in a joyous mirror of Mochi, nose twitching as he practically landed at her feet. Her eager little paws reached out for him, giving his long ear a few experimental grooming licks. He was so pretty! Lethalia found herself cackling at the orbaru together, distracted entirely from thoughts of the pit until Ren piped up again. She cocked her head, smile turned on him instead of the orbaru. "Retired, ay? Soun' nice," she admitted, gaze returning to where the critters played, but looking past them as she thought of the brutal place. "Th' sarane're the only reason I go anymore... don' really think I'm built fo'the sport, honestly. Not easy dealin' wit' predators when, y'know," she motioned meaninglessly to herself, "I coul' be prey m'self." Her sort of butchery business was so entirely different from the sport the drakes found joy in. She smiled to soften her words, adding "'m makin' it soun' like I don' love the beasts, 'cause I do, but.. I couldn't live wit' myself if they killed someone's pet, y'know? Bein' done wit' the pit soun' so nice, 'm jealous y'could do that." She still sounded airy and oblivious to the mammalian's tight voice, like what they were discussing was all more theoretical than real life. Vidarr had a way of unintentionally picking at her frayed edges with how large all of his emotions were, tournaments could become nothing more than a memory washed in red. breeding| 15

Renathan was really bad about being socially oblivious when his mind was focused on a task. Honestly, he could have probably done better to recognize the people that he met whenever he did daily or weekly tasks. He probably should have recognized this individual from the pit, at the very least! This was quite the serendipitous meeting, though embarrassingly- Renathan felt like he should apologize for something or another. He would have had to admit though, that one had to sort of compartmentalize the way they felt about animals here. Food was food, and pets were pets. Just like pets were different from working animals. It was just the way of the world. Mochi is finally able to get a good look at his new friend- he's never met an orbaru that looks like her! Such soft spots, she looked like light through the leaves of trees on the ground- though the spots didn't move for some reason. Still, the similarity really made him want to pounce on her- like he did those leaves on the ground. He was only just able to control the urge by forgetting the entire flight of fancy whenever he was groomed. Ah- that felt nice! He leans forward and tries to find one of her ears to groom. Yes. Grooming felt nice. Especially since he had so much fur! Renathan is happy for the distraction of the orbaru playing. They were cute and enjoyable to watch- it was one of Renathan's favorite things about them. He listens though, whenever the satyr speaks. It is a conspiratorial feeling- sitting out here in the sunlight watching adorable creatures cavort while talking about hobbies... It was a great change of pace. Still, the bright sun- and the warmth of the area... And the cute soft creatures simply playing- creatures that wouldn't fight if they were bade to in fact... It was bizarre to consider the horrible situations in the pit. Renathan could still see the equillion trying to drag himself out of the dust. He tries to push the thought from his mind, tilting his head to the side and closing his eyes. "I see." He says. He hadn't really noticed that individuals like this one would feel that way. It was easy not to think of such things when one was like himself. "You're right, I don't think people often think of the reality of it. It's ... Hard to watch them, do that and all." He wasn't sure if he wanted to get into Shy Guy- he felt so guilty for doing that to him. Arrogance was dangerous, and Renathan had seen it hurt someone- something that he cared about a lot. "I feel bad about it. I thought I wanted to win, to get that glory? But it hurt so many others along the way- and what did they do to deserve it? It was just over a whim, you know. Just because I have the mind to be able to decide for myself doesn't mean that they-" He gestures towards the orbaru in example. "Can... And I just couldn't anymore. Of course, sarane are different- it's in their nature. But others? The herbivores?" He shudders. He was a little too grounded in this for his own good. Thinking of those memories- the rest of the world became a child's crayon drawing against the pit's sharp grungy lines. [16]

Romy intently groomed the dark ear in her paws, marveling that the velvety soft black swath against his otherwise bright fur. She pulled away dramatically, working her tongue against the roof of her mouth in an attempt to dislodge a long lock of fur stuck to her tongue. Bashfully ducking her head when she shook free, her shorter ear twitched out of Mochi's grasp unintentionally. She made a softer little embarrassed boop - licking the top of his head a few times in apology to make sure there was no insult to his luscious locks! Romy loved the look of the, she just - didn't know how to deal with it all! "There's a kinda' bravery 'bout bringin' somethin' less inclined than the drakes t'fight - thinkin' I take the easy way out wit'em. One thing gettn' somethin' to range an' fight, 's a whole 'nother gettin' a prey animal t'do th'same..." It first brought to mind all of those thundergugs - they didn't seem especially the vicious sort, but certainly it took no small amount of training to get one to the point of slapping a drake out of the sky. That one, she could remember. But - there was another bigger fight during the tournament she just couldn't conjure up, other than Vidarr was terribly upset someone yelled at him. Leth didn't know, he was probably sore the pit crew got after him or something. She hated that niggling feeling in the back of her mind that she was missing something important. "Can' be tha' bad," she encouraged, softening at the lingering sadness in the mammalian's voice. The sting of feeling like you failed something under your care - she knew that one well. "If nothin' else, th' critters tend'tbe more forgivin'a mistakes'n most people.""These guys're th'best break from it, though!" Leth added more lightly, beaming at the pair of orbaru rolling around in the grass. Unlike people or more vicious creatures, there was never any question about orbaru getting along together. Going to the center with harmless creatures was a welcome divergence from her normal. She really did need to branch out more - turns out there are some hobbies that aren't bloody, believe it or not. "An' actually gettin' out t'see someone when it ain' just meetin' up fo'a fight," she tacked on, seemingly sincere. "Don' love th'city, but 'ere's some good to chase even 'round here - I hope." Lethalia had a lot of different little quirks of her smile, real emotions showing through just the slightest bit when they snuck past the mask of her own making. The smirk was in place but those hazel eyes couldn't hide the glean that looked more sensitive to the topic than her ease of chattering implied. "'specially if we keep lookin' fo' better things insteada' bein' miserable 'bou th'pit, righ'?" breeding| 17

Mochi just Loved being groomed. His mother sometimes over-groomed him, so he'd gotten to where he would push her away- but this wasn't over-grooming. It felt... Nice. What a good friend! He wiggles his tail around in contentment. Suddenly, his new friend stopped, so he cracks a pale blue eye open (squinting against the sunlight as he did) and tried to focus to see what was going on. Oh- she'd gotten fur in her mouth! He knew what that felt like. He boops happily at the new friend- eyes sliding shut again in an obvious happy expression. She licks his head, and he breathes in and out deeply. It was nice to be in the warm grass with a new friend. He reaches out again, stretching his legs out. He searches for something to lick on the other orbaru- perhaps a paw or an ear- but he's not looking where he's reaching.
It was difficult- to get prey animals to fight. It took a lot of dedication and loyalty from the critter- even if they were slightly more aggressive than average. Still, he felt guilty. It was difficult not to feel guilty about it. Still, he wondered if maybe he'd be able to overcome it someday. Sadly for him, things tended to sit and fester, long after they'd become scars. It just seemed to be a part of him to hide those sorts of things. It made it difficult to work through things.
His ears perk up at that, and he turns to look at the individual. "You... Are right. It's almost sad- they are the easiest to accidentally mess up with, but are so much more forgiving." The 'do we really deserve them?' that popped up in his head after that was left unsaid.
"They really are!" He didn't want to spend the whole time out here moping. The sun was shining, the spring was enjoyable- it smelled nice out. Almost too nice, it tickled his nose a tad. Both of the soft orbaru were enjoying the company of each other. Orbaru were just so simple. If only life was like that for people like him, too! He smiles beneath the mask, a true one at that. "You're right. I've thrown myself so much into work- it's been so long since I've been out with low stakes! We should do this again sometime." His voice was warm- much less hollow than it had been. There was always hope. He is struck with a tad of a bashful feeling- and his leans his ears back, rubbing the back of his nape. "You know, you're right." He felt just a tad guilty for blabbing so much- he hadn't really talked about this with anyone before, and he felt a little better about it now.

Suddenly deciding lounging with him sounded better than just grooming, just a little 'boing' to flick her long legs behind herself and Romy flopped a landing laying on her side along with him. That was an efficient way to put herself more easily in his reach! She could still reach his loose almost-curly locks of fur, but she was a little more lazy about it now. It was too nice just being out in the sun and lounging with him - and they hadn't even gotten to playing yet! Grooming Mochi had just been so relaxing.. "Dunno where I'd be without 'em," Lethalia agreed. She added with a tone that belied her mind wandering elsewhere, "like y'said, s'like I'll always be makin' up for mistakes with'em." Committing to being a better person was - difficult. Sometimes it was like she couldn't even scrape the bottom of the barrel about being 'decent', when she couldn't manage to stop screwing up with creatures. "Goin' again woul'be great! Almos' like it's a good thing t'be out talkin't more'n jus th'critters!" It wasn't entirely conjecture - she talked to her animals a lot. Lethalia surprised herself that this was a real promise, not like the kind she told folks just to get them out of her face. But this this time - she was actually planning on keeping her word and going to meet Ren again - what had the world come to?! So few people in her life were actual people to her, most interactions nothing more than transactional. Socializing with someone who shared similar interests was more satisfying than an endless stream of business - who would have thought? Added a bit more sincerely, "I appreciate th'reason to come out' do somethin' like this!" Leth looked back over to the orbaru with a raised brow - that was fast, wasn't it? Or perhaps having somebody to talk to while waiting out the orbaru was a decent way to pass the time. "They'lookin' cozy," she pointed out with a smirk, joking "guess we'll be plannin' th'next one soon."breeding| 19

It really didn't take a whole ton for Mochi to be pleased. He was finicky about his fur, but other than that the silky orbaru was as pleased as punch in nearly any situation. Whenever the female flopped down next to him, he was overjoyed! A deeper boop emits from his chest as he reaches out to put his paws near the other orbaru. She was so spotty! Her spots were very nice colors, too. He wags his tail as he reaches out to touch an ear. The sun was warm- he enjoyed the companionship. He was beginning to feel a little warm in his cheeks, and a little tingly. Not a single thought went through his head as he reaches out on the grass, relaxing.
The orbaru were cute- Renathan couldn't deny that as he watched them! He wished he could be more like that. Just enjoying rest and the small things in life. He listens to the satyr, and just closes his eyes. Trying to feel the sun on his fur and breathe in the outside smells. They were different here than where he lived, but not too much for comfort. He murmurs a soft hum in agreement with her. "It's hard sometimes."
Renathan chuckles at that one. Talk to something other than critters? Did he even know how? Jokingly, of course- he did speak to others (though less often than he would like). "Sometime we'll have to discuss craftsman work." He says, nodding. He allows a true grin to cross his face under the mask, and he nods ecstatically. "It's settled then- hit me up after this of course, and we'll discuss pairs or something." He says.
Mochi's tail was flashing, and Renathan couldn't help but blush. It was all innocent, but still. "They are very sweet, and you're right. Whenever the kits come, let me know! I love kits." They were especially cute the younger they were, of course.
