Her first creature, her first day in the public park... or her first day participating in training, at least. Emery had never had much of an interest in the past, nor did she have the time, but there was a first time for everything. Her pace was slow as she hobbled down the path, her leg squeaking in time with the bellows in her chest. Even if her pace was slow however, Moxie hardly seemed to mind as he trotted down the path alongside her, connected to her wrist by a tiny, simple leash, more a length of string than anything else. It wasn’t like Emery really needed much more. Kitos were still a young species after all, and Moxie was small enough to curl up and sit in her hand if she so desired. Not that he’d likely put up with that right now, as eager as he was to get going. Moxie 0.1/0.1

Normally occasus kito were most active at dawn and dusk, the colors of the sky matching their fading orange pelts. Moxie had been without attention for so long however that he seemed practically ready to explode with energy, yanking Emery around in every which direction. She was glad to be starting in on his obedience training now- she figured he actually WOULD be able to tug her over if he was any larger than he was now. She didn’t have the most stable posture after all. If she was lucky, he would calm down some as the day dragged on and he managed to burn off his excess energy, making him more pliant and easy to train. Unless he refilled his tanks. He seemed eager to snap those sharp teeth around anything he could find right about now, regardless of whether or not it was something that kito should be eating.

Even now, Emery found herself tugging on the leash, trying to yank her pet off of a clump of crabgrass he had latched onto, chirping in a fashion that he was likely sure was intimidating but refusing to let go. “Moxie. Remove yourself.” Emery ordered before reminding herself that she hadn’t actually taught the kito anything yet. He had no clue what she was saying. “...Please.” She continued, but he only chomped another couple of inches down as if he were trying to devour it roots and all. She sighed, a quiet, staticky noise, and gave a sharp tug on the leash, popping Moxie off. He stared vacantly for a moment, no doubt confused about what just happened there before diving back toward the clump of grass. By that point however Emery had already wrapped the leash around her wrist a couple times and was able to keep him from leaping away again.

Moxie made a few more sharp tugs but soon seem to realize that he was stuck, restricted to the straight and narrow path they were walking on. Emery gave him a brief nod of acknowledgement as he gazed up at her, confirming that he had to stay on the path with her. She hoped that would be the end of it. And for about a minute or so it was, with Moxie trotting alongside her and glancing left and right as they walked. After that though, he soon seemed to realize that her shoes were also moving objects that he could- theoretically- also fit in his mouth. Whether or not they would actually fit though, well, that was just a question for science now wasn’t it? Emery gave a brief beep of exclamation as she just barely caught herself with her cane as Moxie threw himself at one of her boots, doing his damn best to devour it.

“Moxie, please stop.” Emery begged, trying to come up with a way to get him off that wouldn’t involve flinging him ten feet or falling over herself. “That leg’s not even made of meat, you won’t like it.” She lamented, but he only pressed his teeth further into her boot. She finally sighed and crouched down slowly, and Moxie squeaked loudly to try and scare her off from stealing his food. She simply gripped him around the side of his jaws however and pried him off, careful not to snap any of his long, delicate teeth. “That’s enough of that.” She said as she straightened up again, opting to hold the occasus kito in the crook of one arm. Even if he decided to bite her again, most of her upper body was heavily plated enough that she would never feel it- and at least they would be able to keep moving.

Price had proven an ornery beast, to say the least. Well, perhaps not aggressive so much as... disobedient. And far more intelligent than Emery was used to. He had a calculating air about him, a sense of awareness that she hadn't seen in her other creatures so far. Granted, she didn't have too many yet- there was only so much she could handle at a time- but he was definitely one of her strangest companions. The purpose of this trip to the park then, was to perhaps create more of a bond with him, and to educate him a little bit better... if she was lucky. First things first then, Price needed to know his name. Teaching a creature their name was usually the earliest trick they learned, to give them an idea of the concept of learning tricks in general. And if she had anything to say about it, Price would be no different. Emery 6 Price 0.1/0.1 Name 1

She had brought a small bag full of small chunks of meat with her- scraps from a local butcher. They weren't rodents, but hopefully they would be enough to motivate this creature. "Price." She said as the salaves slithered around, investigating his environment. They were stood in the middle of a sturdy pine boardwalk on a pond, thankfully empty of people. It was in a nice, sunny spot outdoors for his sake, but still secluded enough for them to train without being interrupted. Currently, the salaves was flicking his tongue out toward the water, apparently smelling it. He gave it no response. Emery turned up the volume dial on her vocalizer. "Price." She repeated, and she saw the salaves glanced up at her, giving her what she assumed was a withering gaze. Apparently, he did not want to be disturbed- but unfortunately for him, that was not an option today. Emery 7 Price 0.2/0.2 Name 2

"Good. Good Price." She said, her voice harsh and artificial. Emery had a disadvantage in comparison to other individuals when it came to training. Many creatures, even if they didn't understand what their owners were saying, could at lest determine some level of meaning from the tone and pitch of their voice. But unfortunately, with Emery's weak throat she was incapable of doing much herself, relying on her voice simulator instead, and it was... not especially gentle sounding. Price hardly seemed scared of it though, which she supposed was a plus. She tossed down a piece of meat for him while she gave him praise. He moved his head over to it, sniffing it hesitantly. Then, he snatched it up off the ground, swallowing it so quickly that Emery barely even caught it. He was undoubtedly a ferocious creature... but she was sure she could tame him. Her voice clicked back on as she got ready to try again.

"Price." She said again firmly as he swallowed the last of his last treat. He turned away from her, looking at the water again, but Emery couldn't help but feel as if he was... intentionally trying to ignore her. Perhaps it wasn't smart for a woman of science to act on a hunch for such a creature. And yet, she couldn't shake the feeling he was cleverer than he appeared. "Price." She said again, not raising her volume. He should know better by this point... and indeed he did. Price turned toward her more quickly this time, staring at her pointedly as if to emphasize his displeasure. However, her only response was a short word of praise and another chunk of meat. He ate it quickly, not stopping to savor it- perhaps he was embarrassed in some way to enjoy it so much. Still, he seemed to be getting the idea of what Emery wanted from him.

He seemed to be getting the hang of this, so Emery decided to give it just one last try to make sure he got the picture. First, she waited until he had finished eating. Then, she waited until he had gone back to what he was doing, ignoring her for the sake of investigating his environment. Once he got out of the mindset of pleasing her (though admittedly he wasn't much in that mindset to start with), she could see if he would respond to his name for real. Sure enough, he soon lost interest in her, slithering a bit further down the walkway, which was when she struck. "Price." She said calmly, and sure enough, the salaves tilted his head back to look at her slightly... before snapping it right back forward, as if embarrassed to be caught out like that. Behind her screen, Emery smiled- he could only hide his obedience so well.
