The next goal after that then was for Emery to teach her salaves a spot of manners. He wasn't aggressive, mind you- the last thing she ever expected Price to do was to go and attack someone. But he certainly preferred to be left alone, that was for sure. But that didn't mean that he was nice, or that he allowed others to do what they wanted to him. Oh no, if Price wanted something, he would certainly try and keep in control of it, which was frustrating for Emery. So today she would also be trying to work on his attitude a bit. If she needed to get something away from him, she couldn't spend a ton of time sitting there trying to impress the important of not eating things that were poisonous- instead, she just needed to get it out of his darn mouth. Of course, that was easier said than done...

For this, she led him along off of the boardwalk, tugging him along gently on the makeshift leash she had put together for him. He hated it of course, doing his best to wriggle away in the opposite direction, but Emery was a great deal heavier than him, if not stronger, so it was hard to pull her off balance. Finally she found a park bench that she sunk into gratefully, clicking her leg into a sitting position. "Now." She said, rifling through the baggie of treats. "How would you like to have- this." She said, holding out a chunk of flesh. His tongue flicked at it. Then he struck- and met tough leather. Emery made sure to wear thick gloves today in preparation for this- his fangs couldn't even begin to pierce them. "Price, no." She buzzed, carefully covering the meat with her hand. The salaves hissed loudly in response.

He struck at her hand again and again, clearly determined to establish his might over hers, but she kept her hand clutched around the meat, repeating the command phrase each time he struck. She winced slightly- even though he couldn't actually pierce the gloves didn't mean he wasn't a powerful animal. She could easily feel the force behind each strike, and hoped that her determination held out long enough against him. Finally he seemed to wear himself out. Price pulled back, coiling himself up and breathing heavily, his eyes still trained on her. She took that as a good sign, and finally opened her hand again. "Good job, Price. Good no." She said plainly, holding it out for him. It seemed for a moment that he wouldn't take it, but sure enough he slowly leaned forward, grasping it with his mouth before swallowing the chunk whole, a bit slower than before.

She decided to give it another try, just to see how he was progressing with this. She got out another chunk of meat while he ate, carefully arranging it in her hand. When he finally finished swallowing, she showed it to him again, pointing to it with her other finger. "Price, no." She said again. It was clear what she meant by that, but whether or not Price would obey was another thing entirely. He paused though, and for a moment Emery thought he might obey... until he lunged forward again. Thankfully he must still have been tired from before, as he moved slowly enough that Emery was able to clench her hand shut again, causing him to bounce off of her glove ineffectually. He hissed loudly and pulled back, this time not fighting it. Instead, he waited for Emery to open her hand again, flicking the tip of his tail irritably.

After a grueling minute, the woman finally opened her hand again. "Good job, Price." She said, placing the meat in front of him. He ate it begrudgingly, clearly still upset with her, but at least he seemed to finally be learning his lesson. She supposed it couldn't be pleasant to keep plunging thin teeth into such thick, unyielding material. Good- he learned better that way. Still, she decided to give it one last try. She got out another piece of meat, placing it in her hand again. "Price, no." She said, gesturing at it again. Then she waited... and waited... and finally it was clear that he wasn't going to go after it now that he had been given the command. "Good job, Price." She said, placing the meat in front of him. She had barely released her fingers when he launched forward, knocking her hand out of the way and eating it. He definitely wasn't tame... but at least he knew better about some things now.

The next trick Emery wanted to teach Price was also one that he was undoubtedly not going to like. She was detecting a bit of a pattern there, in fact. Of course, she couldn't imagine any intelligent creature ENJOYED having their actions restrained or to accept orders from a random person... but if he was going to be staying with her, then he would just have to learn. This time, she definitely wanted him to learn to stay where she left him. After all, she didn't have the energy to run after a snake run rampant. If she told him to stay, she needed him to stay. For this, she figured she could continue using the area around the park bench she had found. Not many other people were in this area of the park today, and it was easy for her to walk back down to the pond and quickly crouch out of sight.

She started off by slipping those heavy leather gloves off and tying him to the park bench. Thankfully it was the type that was nailed to the ground, so he wouldn't be getting away from it any time soon. He tested it a few times anyway, scrabbling against the gravel path with his leglike membranes. "That won't do, Price. No." She said, standing up. The salaves glared back at her but stopped, tapping a leg impatiently against the ground. "Now... stay." She said, raising a hand to command him. Before he could react, she turned heel and walked away, retreating down towards the pond. She didn't need him to do anything by this point- it wasn't like he could run away. This was simply to set an example of what she expected him to do with this command in the future, and what was going to happen once she gave it.

Finally, she retreated to a point down the slope where she knew Price could no longer see her, but she could still see him- just barely, at least. She watched as he raised his head up, looking around for her. After a few moments though, he started pulling at his leash, perhaps seeing if he could escape. That was the point where Emery decided to come back up. He was forced to stay put for now, but she wanted to show him that good behavior would get him rewards... and she wouldn't be able to do that if he actually managed to slip his bonds and escape. It took her a minute or so, but finally she got back to Price. "Good. Good stay, Price." She said, and tossed him down two small chunks of meat. He seemed surprised, tilting his head to one side to look at them for a moment.

It was as if he didn't understand what he was being rewarded for- he hadn't done anything, had he? Still, he ate the treats like he would any other, quickly and without savoring. When that was done, Emery gave the command gain. "Price. Stay." She said, and began to walk away again. It took her just as long to get down there, but she was quick to turn around and look at Price this time. As before, he looked around for her briefly... but then settled down, curling up and resting his head on his own coils. It was as if he realized that Emery would likely be coming back with food in tow, and thus it wasn't worth the trouble to try and escape. That was good enough for her- so long as he stayed put, he could feel however he wanted about it. And so, she made the laborious trip back up.

She gave him the treat as promised, but decided to deliver unto him a final test. Once Price had finished choking down the meat, she reached down and fiddled with his leash. Slowly but surely she untied it from its spot on the park bench, placing it onto the ground. She paused for a moment. He didn't bolt, and instead eyed her warily. Perfect. "Price- stay." She said in her usual monotone before backing away. She watched as he got smaller and smaller, but didn't budge. Even when she got to the bottom, he hadn't moved yet. Instead he glanced around idly, flicking his tail with boredom. Not wanting to leave it too long and have him forget what he was supposed to be doing, Emery headed back up. He was there waiting for her- and for the food she offered him. It looked like he had learned another command... even if he didn't exactly enjoy it.

The final command that Emery had in mind for the day was "come". A simple command in theory- simply calling upon your creature to get them to come closer. Considering that Price wasn't especially cooperative however, she had the feeling they might end up being here a while longer. Still, she had to try. She pulled her salaves back down to the edge of the water. He followed begrudgingly, but hopefully once he knew this command she could do away with the leash entirely, letting him move freely. "Are you ready to try something else, Price?" She asked, perhaps rhetorically... though Price was smart enough that she wondered, sometimes. He looked at her blankly, and with no further response, she decided to begin. She dropped the leash and began walking away. As expected, Price refused to follow- he had no loyalty, no reason to go after her. So she was able to get a decent distance.

Finally, she turned around. Price was still sat there looking at her, as if amused that she didn't realize she had walked off without him. Her goal however, was to make him come to her. "Price, come." She said, setting up the command that he would come to know quite well. When it aroused no response (as expected), she held up aa chunk of meat. The wind was at her back, so it was quick to blow the scent of it over to Price. She saw his tongue flick out, almost involuntarily. The wheels whirred in his mind. She hadn't expected him to be so motivated by food so far, but... perhaps he was so bored otherwise that he might as well eat to have something to do. Regardless of his motivation behind it, it looked like he did decide he wanted it. After a few repeats of the command, he finally moved toward her.

Emery smiled inside her helmet. Perfect. When he finally arrived at her feet, she dropped the meat down for him- it was gone in a flash before it even hit the ground. He continued staring at her as he bit at it, moving it around so he could properly swallow it. "Good. Good come, Price." She said, giving him her characteristic monotonous praise before she began retreating again, moving further up the shoreline of the pond they had settled around. Price watched her go, but with a bit more interest this time- at least this trick involved moving around, whereas the last few mostly consisted of just sitting there. When she was about twenty feet away, she called out to him again. "Okay Price- come." She said, and held out another chunk of meat. The wind had changed though, and it was no longer blowing in the right direction for him to smell it.

Price eyed her warily, and for a while Emery thought he wouldn't move. After all, he couldn't prove to himself that he was getting a treat, all he could see was Emery's gesture... but after a few repetitions of the command he finally pushed off, slithering along the shore toward her. Emery let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding as he approached. It looked like she was slowly gaining his trust, if nothing else, making it easier for her to order him about. When he arrived, she was sure not to break that trust, dropping down the meat for him. He had definitely arrived more quickly this time too, despite her increasing the distance between them. "Good job, Price." She said, and gave him a moment to get a good grip on his food before she began walking away again. One more try was probably all it would take.

When she was about thirty feet from him, she cranked up her volume and called to him. "Price, come!" She said, her voice booming down the shoreline and hurting even her own ears. There was no way he couldn't hear her... but based on her hands being at her side this time, it no doubt looked like she didn't have any treats to offer him. She was prepared to wait, but she didn't need to bother- Price began slithering towards her almost immediately, arriving at her feet quite quickly... before placing his head on her shoe, angling his eyes to look at her expectantly. "Ah, right. Good come, Price." She said, dropping down another piece of meat. It looked like this trick was well learned- he was willing to do it even without her waving a treat around, which was just what she needed. All that walking around had worn her out however, and she was sure that Price's patience wouldn't last. After all that, it was time to go home.
