I know the 'pets can only be RPed in one area at a time' rule is still in place, and this is a rule that goes way back and is unlikely to change... But I'd like to propose an exception for contests and tournaments.
As I understand it, at least, the biggest reason that we haven't been allowed to RP pets elsewhere while they're in these events is to prevent additional/outside training. But training requests and application posts/PMs both have timestamps, so it wouldn't be hard to see whether training had been done before or after a pet had been entered.
On the other hand, contests have a lot of downtime relative to the actual RPing each user is doing (especially if there's a voting portion). And tournaments often go on for months at a time. Both of these are also at least somewhat dependent on staff effort/availability to move forward. Things have been pretty quick lately, but I feel like I remember one occasion on Tapa of Grunty having been stuck in a free-for-all in the past that lasted over a year (or at least, if not a year, close to that).
Just a note that this isn't meant as criticism of staff or to urge them to speed up their processing for contests and tournaments! It's just that, in the normal course of things, it's the user who has control over how long their pet spends in a given thread, and usually we have the ability to move them elsewhere if we need them elsewhere. But when they're in these events, that's no longer within our control, and so the pet gets 'locked in' for a duration that we don't have control over.
This isn't something I think we absolutely HAVE to have, since word docs do exist for us to stockpile posts while we wait. I just think it'd be a convenient QOL update if staff is open to it P:
