Morgan had another weekend off from WELP (rare!) and they knew exactly what that meant, time to do some questing! They didn't have a lot of time left during the month to get a quest or two, and they were sure that there wouldn't be anything good left (those tended to be snatched up first day!) so Morgan was tentatively going to check, and brining their daughter Millicent with them just in case they either didn't find anything and could go out to eat somewhere, or did find something that was something that she could safely go along with Morgan to do. Millicent was sitting on Morgan's shoulder, going on and on about the 'birth' of the new wiurns at the mansion. They were all fluffy and at least partially Izers, or at least that was the genetic sample that Morgan had sent in with the order. They were certain that their weirdo wiurn and izer pair were going to make great parents. Or not, if not, Morgan could have them cared for, of course!
The weather was nice, or at least Morgan thought so. It was nice to be able to enjoy something sometimes- though they'd prefer to stay at home or at the Lab.

Millicent loved all of the creatures around the Mansion, sometimes perhaps even Rivalling Morgan's own love for them. She was constantly trying to use little Nico as an extra-giant horse, to varyingly hilarious results, and she 'spoke' with her 'uncles' (the tat-lungs) often- even though they shared no common tongue at the moment! Morgan knew that she was growing up into a vibrant young individual and they couldn't be happier. Hearing her go on and on about how the little wiurn babies were 'so cute' and then going on about when Seimei and Ryuusei's babies were going to hatch... Yeah, Morgan was a happy parent at the moment theirself.
The walk was a good one. It was a spring day, but not quite too hot yet- perhaps a little bit on the nippy side earlier that morning (it had frosted the windows- it hadn't done that in a while!). The sky was mostly blue, with little wispy cirrus clouds floating about.

Millicent noticed the clouds soon after she took a break about gushing about the new baby wiurns, and was now talking about what she had learned about clouds in her little school that Morgan had enrolled her in. She was not the only non-traditional student there (it was actually something that Morgan and some of the other parents of WELP corp were all putting their children into so Millicent had a few friends now) and Morgan was glad about it. Putting her in a traditional school terrified Morgan due to the issues some individuals in the Labs had with sentient individuals like Millicent... But hearing her talk about the newest lesson and the games she and her friends played during breaks was nice. Morgan closes their eyes as they wait on a street corner for the flash of the light letting them cross (wouldn't want to get run over by someone's equillion cart!) and just breathes in the spring air while Millicent speaks.
It was... Nice.

Like every growing individual, Millicent was always hungry. Morgan had taken to bringing extra snacks with them when they went places, and of course most of the time they spent out was out at restaurants. Millicent had began to widen her palette, and enjoyed trying all sorts of new things. Some of them she didn't like, others were things she thought that she wouldn't like but wound up loving. Morgan was always happy to figure out how to prepare her favorites, since they loved cooking.
Millicent decides that she wants to go to a specific restaurant today, since they have time. Morgan grins, they walk across the street at the designated area, and they're quite close to the turn towards the Quest Board now. Morgan agrees, but only after they check the quest board! They pass a couple of shops on the way there, and a couple of them pique Millicent's interest. Morgan can't help but chuckle as she looks in the windows as they pass.

The last stretch to the block where the quest board was a quick jaunt, especially since the day was so nice and it just felt like everything went so much faster when they were enjoying the weather. The weather really had been so dismal during the winter, the springtime was a welcome change (though the switch was much more difficult than normal for Morgan this year- it was so cold and rainy for so long!). Morgan rounded the corner and nearly missed the kapper standing at the questing board, looking away from them. Not just a kapper, but THE Kapper. Morgan stops, and Millicent stops talking, and they just look. Millicent goes to point at him and ask a question, but Morgan gives her a look that clearly stated 'not right now' in a parental fashion. Still, it was so odd to see him outside of his shop! It was hilarious sort of, to think that people get so used to seeing people as a fixture of an institution. Of course he left the shop sometimes!

Morgan and Millicent exchanged another one of those looks that sort of said it all, and Millicent grinned and stayed put and quiet. She hadn't met this particular individual before, but she knew he was obviously of some amount of importance and of course she'd been learning as part of her curriculum about business relationships. Morgan makes sure that nothing is out of place on their Labcoat or anything else- they wanted to continue to make good impressions (if at all possible) on this specific individual. Millicent was grinning and Morgan did this- it was almost hilarious to her. She would also undoubtedly ask some of those very insulting 'kid questions' about this later, and Morgan was already rolling their eyes playfully just thinking about it.
They round the corner fully now, quietly. Morgan's boots were only slightly loud against the cobblestone, and perhaps that was only because of the steel toe in them.

That was apparently enough to catch the attention of one fairly elderly kapper, to say the least. He was standing there, scratching his chin and looking at the quest board (was he looking for a quest? Somehow the thought of THE Kapper doing someone's random quest was... laughable) and the next second he was turning around and pointing at Morgan. Morgan was tall- for a short person that is, but they were not nearly as short as Kapper. Thankfully, they hadn't been close enough for Kapper to have quite picked their nose with his finger. Morgan tried not to be too startled at the 'YOU THERE'. Wow, that was very... Unexpected. Morgan had done a little 'hop' of a startle at it, and their eyes were slightly wider than usual. If this was noticed, it was not deigned a response from the distinguished individual before them.
The next thing was something that surprised Morgan and Millicent, though for different reasons.

'Have you seen my glasses?' He asked. Morgan blanched. Uh, no, of course they hadn't seen his glasses? What did his glasses even look like? Morgan hadn't stared at and studied his face at all, in fact they had a hard time looking at anyone's face for very long. Morgan thankfully doesn't get any time to open their stupid mouth before Millicent innocently pipes up, pointing towards Kapper's head- and going "Uhm, Mister Kapper sir- your glasses are on your head?" Her voice was so airy and sweet that Morgan hoped to high goodness that it wouldn't set the notoriously proper Kapper off at them. 'Not those glasses, THESE glasses!' He replies, and Morgan was thankful nearly enough to breathe out a full sigh of relief. That didn't sound too aggravated at their little daughter. What would they have had to do if Kapper HAD been crappy to their daughter? Morgan was getting tired of social responsibilities VERY quickly already.

Morgan hadn't even noticed that Kapper's glasses were on his head to begin with- gawsh if they weren't very anxious with social stuff. A little less bad now that they had been working in their profession for some amount of time, but still they would probably never be the best at social interactions. Kapper began pulling... Things out of his pocket. Morgan was a little concerned at first- he was so old that it really could be anything. They were optimistically expecting some delicate glass equipment for his robots (after all, he was an excellent tinkerer and that was what he was mostly known for)- but who would keep that kind of stuff in their pocket? Millicent watches from Morgan's shoulder with the utmost curiosity in her eyes, and Morgan was just kind of awkwardly hoping that it was something appropriate at the very least. Thankfully, the elder gentleman pulled out of his pocket what had to be tens of... Figurines?

Now that had Morgan stumped. Figurines of all things? Did he collect them? Morgan had an eye for finery (it was difficult not to when you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth figuratively) and these were quite fine. Did he make them himself? Did he buy them? Was it his hobby? How odd. They didn't in fact ask a billion and one questions though, instead nodding as they saw them. How did he not break them? Oh well, Morgan didn't find it too important to find out. It was Kapper's business, after all. Apparently he had misplaced them on some errands. Not one to question someone else's eccentricities (and how could they?) Morgan glances at Millicent. Do you want to go? Was the clear question. Of course, Morgan could try to do this on their own time, but Millicent tended to enjoy going on these little field trips as well. Millicent nods, excitedly.

Morgan accepts the quest, and then politely bids adieu to Kapper before going on their way. They weren't entirely sure where to even start. They didn't know where he typically went, so they turned around to ask Kapper. "W-where have you been today? So that I c-can check those places and a-along the way." Morgan explains. They listen carefully and plot exactly where they were going to check first, and the optimal routes along the way. After getting the information they thank him, and then go away again. Millicent was already brimming with questions, but thankfully she thought well enough to not say them within earshot of a kapper (who sometimes had excellent hearing- and sometimes had quite poor... she wasn't going to risk that).
Finally, when they were a few blocks away, Millicent asks- "Who is he? Why is he so..." She seems to search for a word, holding her hands out with palms up.

Morgan was not entirely sure what Millicent was trying to communicate- and they didn't really want to make a lot of embarrassing guesses about it either. They shrug- "Old? d-Dignified? Demanding?" Morgan suggests, each one with a slightly uptilted note at the end to convey slight uncertainty. Millicent holds her chin in the cup of one of her hands boyishly, and tilts her head sideways. Her ears flop over to one side. "Maybe? He seems... Important?" She asks, still not entirely sure what the correct word for what she is looking to say. Morgan thinks that they get the gist of it at this point, perhaps. "Ah, y-yeah. That's Kapper- the Kapper. He runs t-the Tinker's Trinkets shop. H-he's the best Tinkerer in the Labs-city, but he o-only really does what he wants to do. I-I'd like to go into business w-with him someday, but you know..." Morgan shrugs again. "Maybe this could earn us brownie p-p-points in the meantime."

Of course, Morgan hardly ever did anything without a secondary motive. Perhaps it was not very 'good person' of them to be that way, but it wasn't like Morgan cared (or had many individuals around them that would care if they even noticed). The bespectacled human just hardly had any interest in caring about what others thought of them past the rudimentary 'how could this be useful to me' sort of way. If some nights they stayed up a little longer than others tinkering to try to keep their mind off of stuff- well, it was a small price to pay for being able to cope with it the rest of the time.
If Millicent had put any of that together, or thought anything ill of it- she had not given any indication of such. Instead, she takes Morgan's answer as gospel and the two continue on their way to the first suspected site of lost... Doodads.

The human did have a pretty good idea of what they were looking for, and a couple ideas of where to find them. However, there was no accounting for people having already found them and perhaps pocketed them (and who would blame them, things on the ground were pretty fair game) or for exactly where they might have possibly rolled off to. Morgan was counting on Millicent's smaller level of vision to be helpful in this case. "Alright Millicent, we are almost there. D-d-do you mind giving me a hand looking for them?" Morgan said. "They're pretty shiny, so h-hopefully we have enough morning light out h-here to find them." Millicent nods her approval, and they make it not long afterward to the first place of interest. It was a rather unassuming looking cafe- with outdoor seating and the like. Morgan doesn't really take Kapper as the kind of individual that sits outdoors to take a meal in an area with such a non-refined view. Must be inside, they thought immediately.

Morgan does check the area around the door and the sidewalk leading up to it, just in case anything shiny might have fallen out of Kapper's pockets there. They didn't see anything of note. "I don't think he would have sat in the outside seating in order to eat." Morgan muses aloud, so that Millicent could hear them. "Kapper's tastes tend t-t-to run t-towards the... Refined. A clear view of the street and uh, that garbage container over there is probably n-not his style." Of course, Morgan was guessing, but they were plenty certain that they were right. "So I vote we check inside, t-talk to the workers inside, perhaps get a good look at around where he sat." It was not Morgan's typical thought of fun; playing detective to find baubles lost by an elderly tinkerer, but quests were quests.
Millicent didn't seem to find anything wrong with the logic, so Morgan steps to the door and reaches out for the handle.
