What a curious business this was. Noa had never intended to become the owner of a Houluh. The concept behind them held little interest for him, as they were neither keenly destructive nor keenly magical, and he was generally someone whose tastes in creature companions ran toward the... dramatic, one could say. Looking at his closest companions, one could see the pattern. Honestly, maybe the impulse had arisen the same way a child doesn't want a toy until they see someone else having fun with it. Briar had certainly looked as though he was enjoying his time with these pups. And so Noa had taken a few out himself to see what all the fuss was about, and decided on the spot that he may as well have one. Briar had been dubious too, when Noa had announced this, but after some bribes, he had been convinced to relinquish one. That was the one currently accompanying Noa and Rhys to the Houluh Hall - a place just for the showing of these creatures, if one would believe it. Upon his arrival, with the air of a very amused tourist, he filled out the forms, penning the first idea of a 'show name' that came to mind.

He handed over the forms with a grin, to a staff member who seemed a little put off by his attitude, but who nevertheless waved him on to the show ring after reviewing the papers. Rhys elected to stay on the sidelines and watch, so as not to distract Nana, who had been eyeing him the whole walk there. Maybe the Faeron looked a little too much like a prey creature for his own comfort.
"Well, let's give them a show," said Noa, still smiling. How had Briar's hand signals gone again? Noa snapped, and Nana looked at him, ready and waiting for the next command. That was well and good... But Noa wanted to show off some of the things he had personally taught her. He gave her the hand signal to growl, and Nana did so, sounding surprisingly menacing for a creature who wasn't all that big, in the grand scheme of things.
Then Noa took out a toy, and gave her the signal to bite. Nana latched onto it, only letting go when Noa gave her a treat.
That ought to be a show enough, he thought, and bowed with a flourish, before leading Nana out of the ring.

The last time they had been here, it was with Nana. At the time, Noa hadn't really thought much of it. Houluh weren't the kind of creature he would get excited about or think much of, and it had made perfect sense that Nana didn't give him much trouble, because what kind of trouble could she possibly give? She came up to, what, his knee? Compared to the likes of Wiurns and Pliathor, a Houluh seemed like an afterthought at best. With the next pup, he didn't bother with that basic obedience nonsense that Briar had taken so much time to instill into his lot. What could one dog do, anyway? He was beginning, however, to see how that might have been a mistake on his part. Despite his and Rhys's best efforts, the new pup - who was now more grown than not, really - pulled on the leash this way and that the whole way up to the contest hall. She wasn't aggressive, but she had a lot of energy lately, and it was hard for Noa to even fill out the forms with her trying to approach every new thing she saw. Eventually he handed the papers over, written in a messier hand than his usual script.

It would have to do. It was still legible... probably. Now he just wanted to get this over with, so that they could get their certification and go home. Maybe if the pup had something to do, she would stop trying to drive him insane.
Rhys stayed outside the ring, though he had been left with the mushrooms, so he could hide them while Noa distracted the pup. Rhys did so, then gave Noa the signal that they were good to start.
Noa started with one small corner of the ring first, and gave the pup the command to search. She sniffed around a bit, then found a mushroom. "Get mushroom," Noa said, and she dutifully brought the mushroom over to him. At least when she was doing something she had been taught, she did it well. "Forage," he said, and she began ranging across the entire ring, going where her nose led her. Here that wasn't an issue, since the ring was empty of everything except for the two of them. And there were mushrooms to find, rather than other creatures or, god forbid, dung or something like that.
When the pup had brought him all the mushrooms they had hidden, Noa did a small, slightly mocking bow and led her out of the ring. That was that, he supposed.
