It had been some time since Renathan had went out, by himself, to breed his own Orbaru pairs. He'd even hired others to do it- it was an arduous process if only because he did not feel as if he had time to go out and 'waste' on waiting for orbaru to do what they were 'going to do' at this sterile building... However, he had a pair he wanted to see have some kits- a pair that up until today have never once met each other. He was reasonably certain that they would, in fact, do what was required despite this. After all, they were Orbaru! Orbaru bred quite a bit like rabbits did back in his homeland (though the flashing tails were indeed unique!), and generally only seemed to decide based on whether or not they 'liked' the other orbaru's playing enough. The russet mammalian had never seen Orbaru refuse a mate before.
The pair of the day was a little female with interesting markings that Renathan had gotten from participating in a contest. She was a darkly colored female, at least in the stripes. She also had two markings on the snout that very nearly looked like little fangs! How charming.

Little Nomura's mate to be was an auburn-colored buck that was just a tad larger than she was. It would seem that a lot of Lazare's offspring were a little on the big side (though not abnormally so on their own- Renathan had noticed the slight predilection only in that most of his heavier orbaru were indeed Lazare descendants), though he didn't dwarf Nomura (even though she was just a tad smaller than normal) completely. Peachie was a strange creature- he had the faintest of panda markings beneath his much darker 'regular' orbaru markings- the bands that normally denoted them. He had a pale tan underbelly and inside of his ears. He had dark 'eyespots', and the very tip of his tail was tan. He had pink eyes, and a pink tail orb. Overally, he was certainly one of Renathan's favorite orbaru all the way around. Renathan had been touchy about pairing him off- he was so handsome. How does one even improve on his looks? It felt like a waste to breed him.
However, Nomura was a good choice. Her dark markings were pleasing- though Renathan wasn't big on her brightest colors. Her underbelly was as bright as snow- sometimes making her blend in creepily on the carpet.

In fact, Nomura sometimes looked a bit like a snake, with her body laid out on the carpet- feet all stretched out behind her in her laziness. She would certainly make nice kits, at the very least. Renathan had made sure to take extra good care of all of his orbaru all the time- but he'd had to admit that he'd been trying to fatten her up a bit. She wouldn't take to any extra weight though- but she could eat twice as much as the other orbaru! Where did she even put it? He hoped she would take to kits well anyway. As for Peachie... Well, hopefully he would behave long enough to impress the girl! He was always getting into trouble (like any self-respecting Lazare descendant) and Renathan wasn't entirely certain that Nomura would want her tail nibbled on. He'd just have to see, wouldn't he?
The walk wasn't too bad. It wasn't incredibly hot yet- thankfully. It was still a short time yet until summer, but soon it would be in full spring. The rain had been quite heavy the night before- but thankfully this morning it was just dewy-muggy, and not rainy. Renathan still doubted that it would last long.

Renathan was certain, perhaps due to having been in the area for as long as he now had (though not as long as any natural denizen of Pethia), that it was going to rain again before the night was out. Every window he walked past was dewy in the heat, the air shimmered with morning wet. The grass was covered in water droplets. Beneath each of his tufted elbows was held a carrier- and each carrier contained an orbaru in it. Each orbaru was well cared for, if a little bit too much- they were confused about the bright lights from outside. They had been inside nearly their whole lives!
The morning was hazy-golden, the red of early sunrise had long since faded off. However, the sky wasn't yet pure blue either- and already the fluffy little white clouds were forming. Renathan knew that the sun was already heating the rain droplets off of the grass- thus in his mind the clouds. Yes, it would certainly rain tonight. He could inwardly groan if not for the fact that he did like falling asleep to the sound of raindrops. He mostly just hated grey-rainy days on the way to work. It made the trip annoying.

Renathan had to take some time to stop and smell the roses (metaphorically of course) since he hadn't had much time off since before the winter holidays. There were so many different commissions, some for the winter holidays, some for the start of the year, then some for various spring holidays... He'd finally finished the ones for the summer-start festival just days ago. He wanted to take a rest, and this was part of that process. He stops on top of a small ornamental bridge to take in the nice babbling brook between the trees of a park. He stopped a bit further down the street to watch a small parade going on (what for?) and finally he stops again to check the quest board- and sighs as he moves on. The breeding center was just up the way- and already the orbaru's eyes were beginning to adjust and they were beginning to realize that there were another orbaru around. Peachie was already curious paw-pawing at the door of the critter crate, and Nomura was making soft booping noises. So far, they had not even seen one another! It was amazing how social and loving orbaru were even without having met one another.

Renathan was glad that the pair had waited that long to discover the other's presence, because Orbaru tended to get quite loud when they were being impatient. The russet mammalian groaned, placing his palm on the forehead of his painted mask. He looks up to the sky, and rolls his eyes. All he wanted was to get some good sunshine along the way! He was quite okay with that he guessed, he was rather close by to the breeding center anyway now. He was quite right in his assumption though. It didn't take long at all for little Nomura to begin making those tell-tale sniffly-snuffly noises that orbaru made between boops when they were almost too excited to contain it. Renathan, despite his true wishes, doubles his pace and continues forward. The Breeding Center was well in sight, and he hardly noticed the scritchy-scratches from inside the critter carries beneath both of his arms.
The sun shone down, warming his perhaps too-dark for such a hot environment fur. Perhaps it would be enjoyable to get inside, out of the heat and in the cool. Of course the countless hours that awaited him (he was being a little over exaggeratory in that thought) waiting for the orbaru to get interested would be bothersome.

Orbaru were simple creatures. Often to a fault- while they befriended and played easily, it sometimes took multiple engagements to get them interested in anything other than playing together. Renathan sure hoped that this would be a simple one-day affair. The Breeding Center looked the same as ever- oddly pristine and brick-laid. The outside was decorated sparsely but prettily. Renathan doesn't really feel like he has enough time to take in the rest of the morning, not even out here. It smelled over so faintly of cigarettes near the tree outside- but no butts were to be found. It was an odd but familiar smelling smoke- not acrid like the normal kind. He snuffles his nose a bit beneath the mask. Could it be?
His question would not be answered. He had to go over the mossy roots and towards the too-straight rocky walk-way. All the way up to the double-swinging glass doors. He'd hardly been paying attention to the noises the orbaru were making inside the separate carrying cases- but now that he was in the hollow walk-way he could hear it echoing so loud. He sighs again, and pushes the thoughts away. The offspring would be nice. It was a pain, but it would be worth it.

Renathan tried not to think too much on what said offspring might look like! It would be quite interesting to go on, of course- but he'd had all sorts of odd results from pairings, and he'd never be able to properly guess what would come out of it. His mind was wondering a mile a minute, as if he could not at all keep up with not being at work. His hands were cracked with the many months over the forge- and now that he had some time to calm down, he felt... Anxious. Despite the fact that he'd never find any good out of considering futures that were not yet set in stone (there was a first time for everything, and these orbaru could hate each other strongly for all he knew!) he still found his mind approaching the subject of offspring.
Renathan had a berry on his person- one of the many that he had left. A berry that had proved so far to help orbaru produce litters of bolstered numbers, and in this case might produce at least two? He had that experience in the past. However, he was not sure if there would be any males. Probably not.

Still, the idea of little russet panda kits running around with pinkish-purple tail orbs amused him. Perhaps with any amount of luck at all Renathan would have at least one offspring with Nomura's markings, too. They were lovely to look at, though she was much too pale for Renathan's taste. Hopefully as few of these theoretical offspring as possible would present her cool tones. Renathan thought of this in the amount of time it took him to grab the door handle on one of the two double doors and pull it open in order to let himself inside. No one was in the waiting room, from what he could see. The place was sometimes full-up, and sometimes barren. Today was one of those very scarce days, from what he could tell. He could smell the faint odeur of houluh in the place- perhaps someone was hear with a pair? He didn't husband houluh, however.
He brings his pair without being tarried in a line to the front desk, and he sits them down carefully. He then stands up, and waves to the receptionist with a now empty hand. "Hello, I'm here with a new pair this time." Untested, untried, indeed.

The receptionist was kind enough. Sometimes he'd had experience here with kind receptionists, and sometimes he did not. This time the individual seemed a little bored, but nothing too stressful seemed to way on their shoulders. Renathan dips his head quietly, respectfully, and then reaches out for the pen whenever he is bade to. He quickly writes, in his rather scratchy chicken-scratch, his name and the names of the two orbaru. That and whatever genealogy he knew for the orbaru pair (nothing for Nomura at least!). After he finishes, he is surprised to be waved to sit down. He had thought the place nearly abandoned, so he hadn't thought he would have to wait. He knew that it wouldn't be too long, though. As soon as a room opened up he presumed that it would indeed be his.
Renathan bends down and picks up the two carriers, but he does not have to go far in order to get them over to the waiting area. He sits in the nearest by chair, and faces the two of the critter carriers towards one another to get the process more well-started. If he had to wait, at least there would be progress with the orbies.

It seemed that during the small amount of wait, little Nomura had gotten herself turned around backwards in the critter carrier. Her tail was up against the grate, and her little eyes were peering through the holes cut in the back. She was obviously looking for Peachie- she could hear him! However, Peachie was turned the correct way (face to the grate) and he could see her quite well! He boops a greeting, perhaps a little too simple to understand that she was turned around, and suddenly Nomura makes a shocked noise. She tries to quickly scurry around in a circle (within her square-ish confinement it is difficult) in order to look at the other orbaru that was greeting her. After quite a few shocked half squeak-boops, she finally is able to get situated enough to look at the male.
The pair seem a little surprised at first. Renathan has no idea why Nomura would be so surprised, but Peachie was certainly shocked that the orbaru that he was 'speaking' to indeed did seem to have a face! What a surprise! Renathan could just feel it in his bright pink eyes. Nomura's more dull, perhaps purple-y ones (the mammalian could hardly tell) shimmered when she saw her new 'friend'.

Renathan leans back in the seat that he is sitting in, trying to get comfortable. The two orbaru were alternating between booping at one another, and pawing at each other through the grates. The russet mammalian figured that at the very least, that the orbaru seemed to be getting along like they should. He wouldn't have to worry about that, at least! He hoped it wouldn't take too long for the next room to come up empty. He wondered what all the people using the rooms were breeding. Lotines maybe? Speaking of lotine, he'd really dropped the ball on that one, huh? His mind wandered around ninety to nothing. The room itself was quite boring, and he'd been here so many times that he didn't really pay attention to the nice wooden table with all of the publications on it, or the several quaint vases with flowers of varying degrees of freshness in them. He did wonder, once his eyes landed on them, why they didn't just put fake flowers in them? It was easier, that way.
Nomura finally quiets down, simply watching Peachie and apparently content with it. Peachie, however, was growing much more impatient with the entire thing. He wanted to play!

Peachie tried to get out of the little cage, but since he was an orbaru he wasn't doing a very good job of trying. His clawless little paws were ineffective against the little metal cage- even though it was very thin and basically any other creature would be able to do a little bit of damage at the very least. Renathan was tickled by this, for some reason. Perhaps it was the sarane husbandry he did every so often, it was hilarious how different they were! He probably sounded a little strange, chuckling out in the waiting room at his orbaru- but here he was. He would have let them out of course to play- but alas, it was poor form to do so out in the waiting room, even with no one around. However, it didn't take long for him to hear the sound of a closing door down the hallway. Oh, that was great, he thought! He hoped that this meant that a room would be open to him soon- so that he could get this little show on the road.
Peachie and Nomura had quieted down quite a bit, seemingly a little more content with just seeing one another.

Renathan glances subtly down to the part of the hallway that would spill out to the area in front of the front desk. He was curious to see what kind of critters they had with them. Would it be orbaru, like he had? He'd smelled houluh earlier, so perhaps it would be that? It didn't take too long, and someone was coming down the hallway. Renathan's long ears worked masterfully to pick up the faint sounds of what he assumed to be boots. The specific footfall pattern made him realize who it was before he even thought too hard about it. He wrinkles his nose slightly beneath the mask and was ever so grateful that he wore it. What was that kid doing here? Of course, the individual was no longer a kid per-say, but they'd always be a kid to him, especially since he had to deal with the little butthole so long ago, and all the way up to this day even though he wasn't the biggest fan. The shortish individual rounded the corner, a houluh on their heels. They both noticed each other, and pretended not to notice one another. At least they were on the same page. Renathan nudges the carrier furthest away from him closer to himself.
