Noa had his doubts about the ability of having a litter to settle the whirlwind that had been Walnut, but against all odds, it seemed to have worked. Maybe the presence of the pups had finally kicked in the realization that she was an adult now, and having little ones to take care of was a sobering responsibility. Or maybe it was just a hormones thing. Noa didn't know. Whatever it was, he was glad for it. Some time later Noa was back with Walnut, standing outside the breeding center and waiting for the other party to show up once again. It was a different person this time, with a different Houluh to sire the litter. Rhys was here too, as he almost always was, sitting perched on Noa's shoulder and scanning their surroundings. He would have the first news of their approach, when they did arrive. In the meantime though, there was just a lot of waiting. Or even a little bit of waiting; they hadn't actually been here that long. But Noa didn't like to arrive first for anything, or wait on anyone, and it had been an enormous effort to get out of bed this morning to boot. 1

Chunk was a strange fellow, he didn't feel the best about himself after being in the HAA for so long, but then she had come by and that was all better now! He felt much better about himself, but there were still moments he didn't feel like he was going to be alright. Of course the woman had picked his sister over him... but then she had come back for him, so that had to count for something, right? He trotted next to the woman who was jogging toward the Breeding Center, not sure if she was late or not, but winced when she saw the person she was meeting outside of it. "Heya! Sorry we're late," she told him with a small smile, reaching them and eyeing the Matronne, "Well she's gorgeous..." Pleased with the duo, she held out her hand to shake and then patted Chunk on the head, "This is Chunk."2/20

{They're here,} Rhys said. {At least, I think that's them, anyway.} It certainly was a woman walking up with a Houluh, and Walnut perked up at the sight of another Houluh approaching, tail wagging gently still, though growing steadily faster as it became apparent that the other Houluh was in fact coming toward them.
Noa, however, was occupied by something else. Several somethings, actually. The woman herself looked familiar - the Pit came immediately to mind, though he couldn't think of a specific creature yet. He had seen her before, he was sure, on several occasions. "You," he said. "You're the one with... What, that blue Equillion? No, you have something bigger, don't you? A monster of a Thundergug, something like that."
But this was just surface stuff, small talk. A fellow trainer of monsters was a noteworthy connection, but not terribly uncommon in this city. No, what had really caught his attention was the sheer concentration of magical energy he could sense radiating off her. Aside from his parents, and now himself, he had barely encountered anyone with such a wealth of power to draw upon. All at once, he felt more awake; and beneath his disorganized speech, he was scrutinizing the woman with great interest.

Jack smiled a little and tilted her head, keeping a hand on Chunk's head as well as she looked him over. She could feel it coming from him as well, and she was intrigued... A small thrill went up her spine and her smile grew broader, and she fought the urge to check her node pouch. Still though, she was happy about this turn of events, she too remembered him from the Pit. The Wiurn who won the Wonderbrawl. "Yes actually, blue winged Equillion with fire. And a massive Gug, yeah... that's me..." Jack trailed off a little sheepishly when she thought of Kro and scratched the back of her head. Well, this was going to be interesting.
Chunk wagged his tail as he sat next to her and leaned forward a little to sniff at the Matronne, he was pleased with how she looked at least! Hopefully she would be nice as well, and he gave a low woof as an introduction. "You have the Wiurn who won the Wonderbrawl, yeah?"

Noa smiled. It wasn't exactly a warm smile, but it was a warmer reception than he gave most people, so it was something, at least. "Always good to meet a fellow enthusiast," he said. "People can be so... close minded about the potential of raising monsters." When Avander was brought up, his smile widened. "He's one of my best. It was a shame, actually, that there wasn't more of---"
{Hi!} said Rhys, cutting in a little fervently. {I'm Rhys! That's, um, a real nice Houluh you have there!} Noa eyed him, but the Faeron looked almost desperately interested in the Houluh now. Maybe the same bug that had bitten Briar had also gotten to Rhys. Noa looked the Houluh over too, now that Rhys was drawing his attention to it, but he didn't see anything remarkable about it. In fact, if anything, its most noteworthy feature was just how plain it was... But then again, given that this was the first time he had seen a Houluh with a perfectly solid coat, maybe this was what was considered rare in the species.
{He knows some tricks, right? What kinds of things can he do?} Rhys asked, sounding a little less desperate now.

Giving a nod, Jack was about to reply when a voice invaded her thoughts. "Oh, hi there!" she exclaimed happily, patting Chunk on the head as his tail still wagged furiouser and furiouser as the time went on. He wanted to play with the Matronne, but he knew better than to move if he didn't get the word of it...
"Nice to meet you Rhys, I'm Jack. His name is Chunk, and he doesn't really know tricks, just some basic obedience if he's around me. He does know how to fight though! He can bite, claw, and jump." Smiling, Jack glanced down at the Houluh who was now standing at attention and scanning for the danger, though he didn't think there was any due to how relaxed the woman was. Still though, she only said those if there was something around, right? "Do you want to come and meet him?" she asked the Faeron with a kind smile.

{Really? You can't show us, can you?} Rhys's ears perked up as he listened to Jack's explanation. He eyed the Houluh. {He won't bite me, right?}
"I'm surprised that's what you're worried about when you live with me," Noa said.
{Well, yeah, but I'm too small for Azalea to think I'm a meal,} Rhys replied. Noa thought on it for a moment, and supposed that might be a fair point. It still felt a little ridiculous, but not all fears were rational. He had his own share of irrational fears, not that he would ever admit to it to anyone else unless they had already seen evidence of it for themselves. He wished it wasn't the case, but unfortunately one couldn't simply will these things away.
As for himself, however, he studied this 'Chunk' with a dubious expression. "Do you really use him to fight?" Noa said. He had seen that Thundergug in action, so he knew that this woman was serious about at least some of her training, but... "They don't strike me as particularly well suited to combat. Is it a pack thing?" Some creatures did work better in a mob, though he didn't have anything like that.

"Sure I can show you. Chunk, bite!" she said, pointing at a nearby old tree that had fallen over. The Houluh leapt into action and bit down as hard as he could onto the tree, shaking his head back and forth with a small growl to get his point across. He glanced back at her, big eyes looking to please, and the woman smiled, patting his head when he trotted back. She put him through his paces, getting him to both claw and jump on the log for the Faeron's view and then chuckled a little, "How about that?"
He plopped down next to the woman again and pawed toward the Matronne for a moment before yawning a little, work always made him tired... "I don't think they're really suited to fighting, no, but I like the thought that a few of them can defend the place if I'm not there, you know?"

Privately Noa didn't think a couple of Houluh would deter someone who was determined to assail one's home one way or the other, but he kept that one to himself. If someone else wanted to be lax in their security measures, it wasn't any of his business. And who knows, maybe at some future point he might be the one doing the breaking in - not that he expected to, but one never knew what the future had in store.
{Oh! He certainly does look very feisty,} Rhys said. {... I think I'll stay where I am, but he's very handsome!}
Walnut had been on pretty good behavior until now, for her, but seeing the other Houluh jump into action had her feeling more energetic too. She tried to jump forward, but Noa was wiser to her antics now, and was ready to tighten his grip on the leash when she did. "Walnut," he said sternly, and she subsided with a whine, but she was used enough by now to this exchange that she didn't make a big deal of it either.
{Walnut is, um... Well, she's happy to meet you all!} Rhys said. What went unsaid was that obedience wasn't exactly her forte, exactly.

"Well we're happy to meet her too," Jack said with a chuckle, holding out a hand to the Matronne with a little smile on her face. She knew that it was weird meeting new people, but... hopefully she wasn't coming off too weird.
Considering her Kennel, it wasn't like the Houluh were the last line of defense, she had... others for that. A grin crossed her face as she thought about what she had back home, and she shook her head. No point in talking about it though. "Shall we?" she asked the man, pointing toward the door of the Breeding Center. Chunk stood up and stretched out, sniffing at the Matronne for a moment before following Jack as she walked toward the door, opening it for the others. It wasn't like they could do the whole thing outside now right? At least the Center would have some words with them, and she would rather avoid that.

Walnut sniffed eagerly at Jack's hand, while Noa kept a tight hold on the leash in case she tried anything again. Walnut wasn't the type to actively harm anyone, as far as Noa could tell, but not everyone could read good intent from ill in the body language of a creature running at them full tilt. This woman might, since she had at least one Houluh - and as he was learning, people rarely had just the one; if anything he suspected she probably had multiple, just like everyone else he'd met who owned any Houluh. But if Walnut slipped out of Noa's grasp, then he would have to chase her down, and he didn't want that either.
What Walnut would have liked was probably to get closer and sniff Jack all around, but Noa had other ideas of what he wanted to do with his time. When Jack motioned toward the door, he acquiesced with a tilt of his head, and Rhys used his telekinesis to open the door for them both.
{Ladies first!} said Rhys.
"Why thank you, Rhys," replied Noa, and walked in through the door without waiting for Jack.
The Faeron heaved a sigh. {Well, I tried,} he said.

All Jack could do was snicker when Noa went in first. She didn't mind a little chivalry every now and then, but it wasn't her favorite thing either. She wasn't going to break the poor Faeron's heart though by telling him. Giving a small sigh as the cooler air inside of the building hit her, she led Chunk to the counter and began to fill out the proper forms for her Houluh to be bred. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long and they could be out again, but one never knew of course.
Chunk wagged his tail and wandered over next to Walnut, sniffing her a bit. He was well behaved bit excited to meet her, so there was quite the air about him for now. He just hoped she wouldn't mind how plain he was, and his shoulders slumped a little when he thought of it. Maybe it had been for the best that he had been at the HAA for so long...

Noa made his way over to the front desk, picking up a set of forms to fill out. They sure liked their paperwork here in the Houluh world. He noticed it at the registries, at the contests, and here, in the breeding center. Apparently they had more paperwork waiting for you if you meant to adopt from the free adoption agency, but fortunately Noa had been spared that ordeal. Apparently there were minimum requirements for training too, which... Well, there were minimum training requirements to register them as breeding stock too.
"So much bureaucracy for these little dogs," Noa said, tapping his pen against the clipboard. What had Walnut's show name been...? It came to him after a moment's thought, and he scribbled it in. His writing was only barely legible, a scrawl that couldn't even rightly be called cursive, but so long as someone else could puzzle it out after a while, then it wasn't his problem to deal with.
Walnut seemed as if she wanted nothing more than to wander around. Most likely the place smelled like other Houluh, or maybe other things she could chase; Noa didn't have any Orbaru or the like. But he kept her at his side, so she had to settle for sniffing from where she was.

"I mean I get it though, they have to research lineage and all that," Jack said with a shrug as she passed her paperwork over to the attendant and leaned against the counter. Her eyes were drawn to the two Houluh, and she knew the Matronne really seemed to want to get away and play, and she smiled at her a little. She could talk to her with the ring she wore if she wanted to, but she didn't want to get in between a person and their animal, it just didn't seem right, so here she was, wondering what to do.
As Chunk wagged his tail, he stepped closer to Walnut and woofed again, pawing at her a little and then popping into a playful stance. They didn't have to be so good, did they? Well, maybe her person was making her do that, and that was sad, but there it was and he couldn't do anything about it.
