Renathan was not entirely sure why, but within a day of breeding a pair of orbaru (his first in quite a long time!) he finds himself considering taking another pair all by himself. He did miss having company, but only a tad. He did also enjoy his alone time, and there wasn't much more relaxing and possibly mildly irritating as taking simple creatures out on a 'playdate'. Renathan wasn't certain that he was ready to get back into husbandry of any creatures less simple than these, but for now, it would be a good break from other, more stressful, things.
Today he was taking out two of his personal favorite orbaru- Yoshi, a custom with strange marbled markings that also had stripes on them, and a female with as varied spots as he could have ever imagined. Little Snickerdoodle was certainly the weirdest orbaru that Renathan had probably ever seen. She was mostly white, like Yoshi was, but had lavender eyes and a sort of brown-grey coat with dots on it. However, she also had brown-orange (ginger?) front paws. Her head was tufted in the same two colors in a sort of gradient, and the ears were a dark brown with white spots.

Snickerdoodle's ears were a sight to behold, even if Renathan did say so himself. Though they were dark brown on the outside (with the aforementioned spots!) the underside were partially snow white and partially a softer sort of brown that quite reminded the mammalian of loam, that turned at the very tips to a sort of fox red (it was quite an attractive color!) and then to a pure white. He really was proud of having received her from the parents that he had bred at the time, the selection of the parents was quite obviously an excellent idea. He wasn't entirely certain if he would love the outcome of these two, but he figured that he couldn't completely go wrong. Yoshi had already provided the most excellent pair of furry offspring that he'd seen so far, but he was very concerned that these two might wind up providing him with some sort of funky polka-dotted appearance. Renathan was not a geneticist by any meaning of the word; and perhaps that would even take the wonderment out of breeding orbaru pairs; actually knowing what would come out.
It was really the temperament of these two he was worried about; he wasn't sure if they would get along.

Renathan held the two orbaru beneath his arms in the carrying crates he'd been using for orbaru. Orbaru were generally nice little creatures, so he did not really have to worry about them destroying anything that he kept them in for transport, so they were made out of simple plastic with plenty of breathing holes and a nice mesh little opening that was too small for them to get their paws stuck in. Orbaru could sometimes be a little bit too excited to go play and could use their hind legs to thump fairly decently on the plastic bottoms of the carriers. He was quite lucky that Yoshi (while being pretty excitable for a sloth orbaru he guessed) was fairly lazy and generally didn't move very much and right now was certainly not a bit different than he was well known to be. Snickerdoodle was rather shy and anxious, so she hadn't even noticed the other orbaru quite yet.
The russet mammalian was more than a little anxious that Snickerdoodle would be a little afraid of Yoshi. Even now, nearly to the Breeding Center parking lot, Renathan was more than a little nervous that the match wouldn't quite be as good of one as he had suspected.

Renathan did try to match the personalities of the orbaru that he decided on to pair for breedings, but he did have to admit that he was more of a breeder-for-coats than anything else. Orbaru tended not to have any sort of personality issues so he doubted entirely that breeding them without worrying about personalities (unlike what one would do when breeding protection hounds in example) would cause any sort of negative consequences. Alas, Yoshi and Snickerdoodle had lovely coats, and that was why he was hoping that they would take to one another. So far, he had not had a pair outright refuse yet, but sometimes it took several more hours than he would have expected it for the pair to do what they were supposed to do. Renathan steps across the pavement, his rough foot pads a tad chilled by the autumn cold; but he was glad at the very least that the pavement was not hot.
There weren't really any carts here today, or vehicles of other types. Perhaps it would be an easy day to get a room for the orbaru here today? Some days the center was much busier than other days, and he had spent so long waiting before that he didn't like to if he did not have to.

Renathan walks up to the glass doors without much ado (he wasn't really inclined to meander around the front doors when he wasn't there to meet anyone for the orbaru breeding; and he was somewhat thankful for that- he wanted some time by himself today to not have to think nearly as much) and he shuffles the two crates around beneath his arms so that he can get a hand squarely on the bar to open the door. He pushes it open with ease, and then closes it behind himself courteously since there is no one else around him to need the door opened for them. At this, he glances around to see what sort of 'busy' he was going to be dealing with today. He was quite pleased to see a relative lack of people in the waiting room (one lone person with a pair of red orbaru was sitting in the corner, reading a magazine that looked quite new) and that was enough to spur him straight to the front desk to fill out the paperwork. Yoshi, from what he could tell up to this point was still sleeping. Snickerdoodle was quiet and nearly pressed to the bottom of the plastic crate- eyes widely taking in the surroundings.

Renathan checked quickly to make sure that Snickerdoodle wasn't shivering or anything of that nature; she was not. He didn't think that she would be shocked by the movement to the breeding center, but he was indeed very concerned about her now that he was here. Hopefully getting her into an environment that looked a lot like home (the breeding rooms for orbaru often had toys in them that seemed to be very well kept, he figured that those would work nicely) would make her much more calm and less likely to 'freak out'. He sits the two plastic crates down on the floor ever so gently and then he stands up to greet the man at the help desk.
"Hello there!" He greeted, lowering his head and antlers in greeting politely. "I am here to breed a couple of orbaru-" He started. 'Have you ever bred an orbaru pair before?' The man asks, smiling quietly at Renathan otherwise. The russet mammalian wraps his tails around his ankles carefully as he nods. "Yes, I have." He didn't remember seeing this particular helper here before, but he was very polite Renathan noted. At this, he was passed some form to fill out.

Renathan had filled out the forms a billion times before, but it seemed that they had recently been changed out. "Are you sure these are the right ones?" He asked, feeling a little rude nearly as soon as he got the words out (his face sheepishly blanches at that) and he apologized immediately. 'Yes, those are the new forms.' The man said, still smiling. Renathan nods. "Sorry, I was just here yesterday, and these are different." He laughs a bit at himself, and moves one of his braids out from under his shawl because it was pinching a tad. 'Yes, they were just changed today, sorry for the inconvenience.'
Renathan nodded to this and dipped his head in embarrassment as he quickly worked through the forms. He was a little slower than he would otherwise be since they were different than they were before. He felt like a lot of things were changing recently, and a lot of them were much better than they were before. However, he sometimes felt like there was an era's end up to this point. He was beginning to feel a little... Old, perhaps. He figured that everyone eventually felt that way.
After he finishes the forms, he bends down to pick up the two orbaru.

After getting the two creatures properly up under his arms again, the russet mammalian used one of his hands to hand over the paperwork that was required. He stood there a little awkwardly while the person checked over them carefully to make sure that they were properly done. 'Oh, you forgot to sign here.' The individual said, sliding over the last page and pointing to the middle of the page. Renathan nods and quickly maneuvers a hand over to sign it, a little on the awkward side since he had already picked up the plastic crates that held the orbaru he'd brought with him.
He was very lucky that he had not brought a more rambunctious pair- like he had done before, because he would not have been able to quickly jot down his own signature and would have instead had to put the plastic crates down first and that would have made the poor mammalian feel even more embarrassed. After finishing, he received an okay and a number, and he went to go find himself a seat in the waiting room. Yoshi was still asleep and was now quite loudly snoring. Snickerdoodle was still as quiet and as calm as he could have expected.

Renathan had the entire waiting lobby to find a spot to sit. Only the one spot with the other orbaru breeder (the one with the red orbaru) was taken, so he could really have pick of the place. He mills around for a moment, trying to decide, and then finally he sits a couple of plush faux-leather seats away from the door. He bends over to grab a magazine and then gently puts both of the plastic crates with the orbaru in them on the ground again. Before opening the magazine he bends down to look at the orbaru to make sure they were both doing fine. Yoshi had just been woken this time when he was put down.
Yoshi defiantly stood up on the pad that was in the bottom of the plastic pet carrier and he peered out into the light of the room, sniffing. He could already smell Snickerdoodle, and because of that he was just barely able to turn around and sniff in her direction quite accurately. Snickerdoodle was now pressed against the back of her own carrier, but she was also peering with her lavender eyes out of one of the holes to look in the direction of Yoshi.

Renathan carefully turned the two plastic carriers towards one another so that the two orbaru could get more used to one another. Already, the pair of them had been starting the process because they could smell each other. He'd made sure to spend the last few days with Yoshi and Snickerdoodle only separated by a gate so that they could get used to the other's scent. He hoped that it would help today. He could really use a rather quick day out today; he'd already embarrassed himself publicly enough this morning (as much as he hated to even think about it, he was missing his shop considerably already). Renathan was anything if not a creature of habit, though he was loathe to admit that.
He watches the two orbaru move around slowly in their crates to face one another (well, Yoshi did that, Snickerdoodle was more hiding beneath the holes in the side of the crate save for the tops of her eyes, and of course her ears that she didn't seem very well aware were visible to Yoshi quite clearly) to make sure that nothing was going to go wrong, before he opened up the magazine he'd barely even looked at when choosing.

The magazine was apparently about some advancements in breeding that had been made relatively recently. He had been quite out of the loop up to this point, so he became engrossed in the material immediately. He did keep an eye out on his own orbaru, glancing up every now and again to make sure that they were not interacting in a way that he felt was going to pose issues later. Snickerdoodle continued to be quite shy, and Yoshi continued to be his usual lazy self. Yoshi was lazily patting at the hole in the side of the plastic cage with a front paw, and Snickerdoodle kept poking her head up a tad to look at him, and then she would duck down whenever she felt like Yoshi had 'seen her'. It was about as good a game as any that Orbaru could play; so Renathan was not at all too worried about them. After reading the article about orbaru husbandry practice improvements, he flips through the rest of the magazine with some amount of boredom. There really wasn't anything of interest the rest of the way through- at least not for him.
He sighs and leans back, the magazine in his lap for a moment.

In that moment, one of the red orbaru of the other patron breaks free somehow from the leash and collar that had been about it's neck (must have been one of those breakaway collars, Renathan figured) and began darting beneath the various chairs in the waiting room. The creature was playing a fairly adept game of keep-away from its owner, who was scrambling around on all fours to capture the cute little creature. Renathan just stays back, a tad embarrassed himself about the entire situation- hadn't he done that before as well? Orbaru were generally not aggressive (even as a rule!) but they were sometimes little mischievous creatures, even if they weren't very smart overall. That was part of the reason why he had began to carry them back and forth to their vet appointments or the Breeding Center in plastic pet crates as opposed to simply in his arms or on leashes like he used to. It was much easier on the pets in question and certainly on himself, even if they tended to be quite unwieldy!
Finally the other individual catches the little red orbaru, but only after the creature had already moved over near Renathan's own orbaru; not that Yoshi minded. Snickerdoodle, however, was quite perturbed.

Renathan frowns beneath his mask, but he wasn't necessarily annoyed with the owner of the red orbaru or his own pair at all. The situation just sort of sucked. He was worried that Snickerdoodle might be a little too anxious for this, at all. Shortly after this incident however, someone walked from the back rooms to the front desk and filled out the final paperwork for their own orbaru breeding. After this was completed, the owner of the red orbaru took off to the back after they were bade to do so, and Renathan was left alone in the waiting room. He felt a little strange at that; not that the person got taken back first (they were there first, after all) but that he was now alone. How long had it been since he had really been by himself and gotten to feel the weight of it? He was a little uncomfortable, and that scared him.
However, he does push that away quite well enough himself. He bends down to give Snickerdoodle some attention and try to calm her. Yoshi yawns, the noise quite loud for an orbaru. Snickerdoodle is used to Renathan, if only as the person that gives her food on the regular, so she sniffs his fingers instead of being nervous.

Renathan spends some time bent low, giving Snickerdoodle a few pats through one of the holes on the side of the plastic pet carrier, and then the russet mammalian leans up and back, wrapping his dark twin tails around his ankles and rubbing the back of his neck as he stretched. His back pops, and he twists one way and then the other to make sure that all of the painful knotting in his back and shoulders was worked out. It wasn't that he had been sitting for very long, it was more that he had been working quite a bit recently; and whenever he used a hammer or other small tools that required a lot of strength behind them whenever he was crafting, he often found his body tightened beyond comfort. He chuckled as it occurred to him that he could really use a masseuse to help with his muscle stiffness, especially in his shoulders. He couldn't even imagine going such an establishment- it simply wasn't done where he comes from.
He really had come a long way from his childhood where he came from, hadn't he?
Yoshi doesn't go to sleep again, even though he really does look tired.
