Another breeding for Phantom so quickly? Jack didn't know if this was the best idea she had ever had, but... it wasn't necessarily a horrible thing she supposed. Giving a little sigh, she led the Matronne to the Breeding Center with the bell hanging off of her bag. Another one, she was trying to do something for Bors, the giant Uthax she had done a breeding with last time, and she hoped this would turn out in his favor no matter what happened, she supposed. Ah well, if it didn't, then more pups for her she figured with a small grin. Well, they wouldn't do anything if they didn't get to the Center, and she didn't want to be late.
Jack pushed a hand through her hair as they made it to the large building and she glanced inside for the person she was supposed to meet today. Were they inside or not? She... had to admit, she couldn't really tell.

It felt like Briar was coming to the breeding center more and more often as of late. It was the whole business with these Houluh, he knew; he didn't raise anything else that made use of this place. Being here still made him uneasy, the way that being anywhere in the city proper made him uneasy, but he was forced to admit that at least here he knew what to expect. And while Loki shared Briar's cautious temperament, Joker didn't. Joker liked people, and he liked excitement too, so long as it didn't get too overwhelming. He seemed happy as anything to be taken on a walk somewhere more populated than Gracehaven's backwoods, and had to be discouraged several times from becoming too interested in a passer-by. By the time they neared the building, it was a relief to see it. The people there most likely liked Houluh, and wouldn't be too fussed if one was curious about them.

Hmm, she didn't notice a black and white Houluh inside, which was fine, they were here first after all. Jack smiled a little and leaned against the building, they were used to that at this point it would seem, she seemed to get here first quite often, and she hoped that wasn't an issue with the people she bred with. Chewing on her lip a little, she shrugged, it didn't really matter, that was fine.
Phantom laid at her side, legs stretched out when she caught the scent of an unfamiliar Houluh. She sniffed the air and woofed at the woman, and Jack perked up a little when she saw a black and white canine walk up toward the Breeding Center, with a small person with them. Waving happily, she called out, "Hey there!" Hopefully that was friendly enough, though she always kind of struggled with what was alright and what wasn't it would seem.

Joker was through the door before Briar was, not because he had no manners, which was probably what it looked like, but because Joker knew that this worked for them. Joker could sense that Briar was uneasy around people, probably to the same extent that Loki could; and Briar was sure, for that matter, that Lyra could too. What was different was what they did about it -- and to some extent, probably what they thought about it too. Loki had known enough of a hard life as a stray that it had never quite gone out of him, so he was in agreement with Briar's assessment of the world as a place that he needed to be wary of. Loki kept watch, alert at all times.
Joker thought people were alright, and since Briar couldn't handle it, he walked in first to head off anyone who might make Briar uncomfortable. He didn't quite rush at the woman who greeted them, though he stood in front, tongue out, tail wagging.
-Hi,- Briar signed from behind him, awkwardly.

Jack beamed when she saw the person and Houluh coming down the walk and then through the door, she figured these were the two she was meeting this time, and she certainly expressed some happiness about the signing. Perking up, she didn't think she needed to sign as well, and left her mouth visible just in case. "Hey there! Thanks for meeting us!" Jack exclaimed as she kneeled down in front of the black and white Houluh and glanced at her own fully white Matronne at the same time. This was going to be great and she hoped what she was doing was going to work.
Standing up, she held out a hand to shake with a smile and waited for a response as Phantom wagged her tail furiously at the sight of the Patronne. This was great, and this was going to be fine at the same time she figured with a laugh.

The woman looked... not particularly threatening, Briar thought, though maybe it was just because she didn't look as if she was particularly rich. Not to say that she looked impoverished by any means, but he had never met moneyed folk who dressed so plainly. She looked, at least, like good honest working folk.
In the face of her words, however, he did no more than nod, a little tersely. Briar didn't have anything like fine manners. Even if he wanted to be friendly -- and he still didn't know whether he did -- he wouldn't have known how. A smile wouldn't have been visible beneath the scarf he used to keep his brand out of sight.
The Houluh she had with her was an interesting one. He had never seen so much white before. The curious part was the bit of darker-colored fur around her mouth; from a distance it looked as if she had eaten something and stained it.

He looked... tense? From what she could tell at least. Still though she smiled and motioned for them to follow her, "Haven't started on the paperwork just yet, but if we both work on it, it'll get done that much quicker." Phantom barked happily at the Patronne and then trotted after the woman to the counter as Jack started on her paperwork. She slid a piece of paper over to the area where the person she had met would have an easy time of reaching it, and then started to fill hers out, listing genealogy and genetics.
Phantom wagged her tail happily as she settled next to the woman and stared at the lovely Patronne. She hadn't seen anyone just like him before, though there was a puppy who he reminded her of. She tilted her head as she looked him over a little more, maybe they were somehow related? It would seem to make sense right?

Again Briar nodded at Jack's words, and walked over to the desk, where he picked up his half of the paperwork. But this time he couldn't help the small sigh that escaped him as he looked at it. He could read and write now, and it was useful, but filling out forms was still time consuming and unpleasant. Slowly he wrote in what he hoped was the correct information. He had to go slowly, and print the words out carefully, or else they would come out completely illegible even to him. He had learned to write later in life, and sometimes he wondered if his writing would ever improve to the point where he could stop thinking about things like this.
Joker followed him over to the desk, sniffing around to see if there was anything interesting for him there, but when he found there wasn't, he sauntered over to Jack instead, probably to see if she had any treats.

As she finished up her paperwork, she noticed the black and white Patronne nosing around her a little, and she gave a chuckle, distracting her from Briar's small sigh she had heard. This was interesting, did he have problems with paperwork? It was no one's favorite though, she had to admit to that much. "Hey there buddy, want a treat?" she asked, kneeling down in front of him. She turned to look at Briar for a moment and smiled, "Is it okay if he has one?" She didn't want to step on any toes after all, some people were different about their animals of course.
Tilting her head, the Matronne woofed again and sniffed at Joker a little bit before panting happily and going down into a bit of a play stance. She didn't know what was going on, but he didn't he want to meet her and all that, she wondered?

Briar was brought out -- not to say startled -- by Jack addressing him to ask about whether she could give Joker a treat. Sensing that her attention had shifted, Joker was looking at him too, though what he thought of the exchange, Briar could only guess. Briar nodded, waving a hand in a quick 'go ahead' gesture. It was still strange, the concept of people asking his permission. It was strange, too, the entire concept of people acknowledging a creature as belonging to him. He knew he ought to get used to it, so he can stop startling at occasions like this. Most people didn't, and the fact that he still did wasn't helping him blend in.
But before Joker could even receive the treat, he was distracted by the invitation of the other Houluh. Joker was always happy to play, and in this instance he needed no more encouragement to bolt down the hall, expecting to be chased.

She managed to smile and nod as she pulled a treat from her bag before Joker took off, with Phantom trailing after him as best as she could. The woman chuckled a little and stood up to lean against the counter, watching them for a moment before glancing back over at Briar. "I want to thank you for meeting us, I really appreciate this, I'm looking for a pup for another friend of mine," Jack said to him, motioning toward the two Houluh with one hand as she spoke.
Phantom was pleased, she loved playing! It was great to see what she was going to do for the moment, and she wondered what was going to happen if they stopped playing for awhile. No, that wasn't going to happen, was it? She barked and wagged her tail, pleased to have a new friend. Jack laughed at them, understanding what they were saying thanks to the ring she wore, and she looked back over at Briar, "At least they're having fun together so far."

-A friend?- Briar asked. He wasn't generally one for small talk, but this woman seemed as though she wanted some conversation, and in a sense it was probably more conspicuous to pass the entire time in silence. Briar was finding that if he asked questions, it would keep most of the conversation centered on someone other than himself. Occasionally too, he learned something useful here and there, but it wasn't something he did well or often, so he wasn't in the habit of relying on it as more than a means to avoid suspicion.
As he saw Joker bolting down the hall, however, he sighed. -Sorry. He likes being chased.- Joker would pester the other Houluh into it when he was able, and the prospect of having someone new to try it on must have been very exciting to him. Once he got going, he was off like a shot, nearly bouncing off the walls.

"Yeah, a big Uthax who came to the Labs awhile back. I've done a couple breedings with him and I think an all white Silky would really work for him," she said with a nod and a small chuckle. She knew that Bors probably wouldn't show much emotion when it came down to things, and that was fine, but... at least she had an idea of something to do for him she supposed.
Phantom chased after him as hard as she could with a bark and a howl as she skidded to a stop in front of a door. Sniffing at it for a moment, she recognized her scent inside of there, that's where she'd had pups last time it would seem! Prancing around, she tossed her head a little, pleased that her assumption of having more pups seemed to be correct.
"Oh he's fine! As long as he doesn't run off and we have to chase him," Jack gave a laugh and motioned down the hallway, "Shall we?"

An Uthax... Briar had seen one or two around town, but he had never been acquainted with one. Not that he was acquainted with many people, in the grand scheme of things, mostly through his own choice now. They were rare, but then he had never seen another Sprite at all, aside from himself. Sometimes he wondered if what had happened to him was just a fluke.
-Does he like the silky ones better?- Briar asked. He himself had a few, and thought there wasn't really much difference, except that you had to be more careful about getting them wet. They also shed more and needed a bit more grooming, but beyond that, for all the fuss about their being blessed by some god, they were still real flesh and blood Houluh like the rest.
Noa said they were more expensive though, and that was why he was interested in them.
